LD42 — Running out of space

Green Slime Apocalypse by PavelDlouhy 2018-08-16T19:07:27Z

I love that music, it fits the game extremely well. Also the thought of using a puzzle game with a dynamic element - such as the slime is clever and well put together in this case. I don't think the levels got too hard, they just required some thinking through. There is a lot of potential in the game as a concept. One of the only negatives i have with the game is the method of giving the user information. Instead of having lines scrolling up the screen distracting the user you could have a popup box at the top of the screen giving info, or you could have a speech bubble coming from your character telling the user. However, it is only a slight downside in an otherwise well put together game. Also i like the minimalist graphic.

Blinding Caves by qkerguelen 2018-08-14T21:16:26Z

This is one of the best games i have played during this jam so far, it is also one of the hardest games i have played so far, however i did manage to complete it. Your interpretation of the theme is great, with the camera getting closer every level. The art style - being almost GameBoy esk - fits with the game perfectly. The music is great, but after about 5 minutes of playing it began to hurt my head, resulting in me having to turn it very down for the final level. Overall i loved the game, and the camera moving towards the mouse, allowing you to look ahead is very cleaver (if intended). Bravo.

Alien by ghust1995 2018-08-15T19:50:26Z

Seeing as i have no one to play this with i couldn't play it, however i understand what you were going for - a mario party-esk like minigame with the floor disappearing under the players, limiting their space. I like that idea and it is a good fit to the theme. However, i found the graphics underwhelming, with the floor looking like a default unity cube, and the sparkling stars just looking like a default particle effect from unity. However the background was interestingly detailed. I couldn't judge the game's controls, as i don't have a controller handy, so overall this game looks like it would be fun to play, but i have to judge it from what i can gather.

Floating Island by Echo Team 2018-08-16T23:12:27Z

The amount of detail that went into the buildings was nice to see however there was a significant lack of game play, as you ended up just watching and waiting for a number to count up slowly. The game becomes fairly dull after a few minutes - mainly because of the lack of music, a calm sea sound or some animal sounds - such as birds - would really liven up the game overall. Finally, i think there should be a tutorial, seeing as it is not overly clear what the goal is initially. Or what each thing does.

Gravity Hook by GlacierEclipse 2018-08-14T18:41:27Z

One of the best games i have played so far - Very fun and cool concept with the gravity hook slingshot like movement. However i did find that if you died after collecting all keys the end door stays open, but if you enter it it doesn't take you to the next level until you re-gather the keys - so alls good . :)

Where Stars Belong by NORRIMO 2018-08-14T22:01:47Z

You link leads to an empty page, would love to check out your game as the pictures look interesting. Almost Super-Hot esk.

Anti-Automata by thegunmaster 2018-08-15T19:04:17Z

I liked the music as it was perfectly fitting with the type of game you have made. The graphics are simplistic yet also quite pleasing. The game fits the theme very well with the later stages becoming very difficult to charge up a shot, leading to you losing. Overall i liked the game and enjoyed the few games i had of it. The only downside was the difficulty to keep track of where you were in the constant changing of the environment. However, this is not a large issue.

Borderblast by C0nst4ntin 2018-08-16T15:02:25Z

Nice platformer game with simplistic and appealing graphics. The controls are very smooth and well controllable. It is a shame that there is no music as it would increase your immersion in the game more. I appreciate that there is a tutorial, seeing as - although it is unnecessary in some cases - not everyone automatically knows how to play certain types of games. However if the levels incorporated the theme even more, than just having a smaller play area over time then it would be nice. But the submission is a great one none-the-less.

All The Things! by Snowdrama 2018-08-15T19:17:32Z

Personally i was not a fan of the graphics seeing as the main character just looked like a Unity Cylinder with a mesh. However, the game play was fairly good throughout but there was a serious lack of music, with the only audio being a beep/click sound. There was a lack of different shapes, such as an L shape or a T shape to make the game harder. However the game does fit the theme given. Finally i felt like the controls were very well done, with there being a difference between room view and model view.

Running out of Space by tharemo 2018-08-17T14:26:09Z

I fail to see why you didn't use the model of the ship in the into in the actual game, seeing as you made a satellite model and included that? The audio was decent, yet the game stopped spawning obstacles after the tight asteroid belt bit, leaving there no more game-play. The character movement was ok, and the use of portals to give a speedboost was nice, but overall i did not enjoy playing much as it was obviously - as you have said above - a low effort game.

StopLitterSpace by andreymust19 2018-08-14T19:34:50Z

I tried this game multiple times and every time it resulted in me being thrown into an almost uncontrollable spin with a large velocity. This may just be me playing the game incorrectly however i am still a bit confused about how to complete the game, or land on a planet with the large velocity. However i do like the idea you were going for, but i couldn't seem to have enough control to reasonably complete the aim. Nice idea though.

WetFeet by kruemelkeksfan 2018-08-16T23:26:44Z

The graphics were decent and the overall aim you were going for was well thought out, however what you were aiming for was too large, so you didn't get most of it done. Also, the camera controls were very strange to say the least, with building a building putting me face down into the sea, and when i have built the building it resets be to be facing forward in the center of the island. There is a painful lacking of a tutorial or full GUI, and it would be useful to have the amount of resources produced and the amount of resources needed to build above each building. It is a shame that not enough is really there for the game to be fully enjoyable but nice try overall. Maybe think smaller next time.

Detonation Dice by George Lancaster 2018-08-14T22:45:14Z

This game fits the theme perfectly, and is very enjoyable to play - especially with the music fitting the game perfectly. The craziness of later parts of the game make it the most enjoyable to play as it becomes more frantic and difficult to position and rotate the cubes into the correct position. I like the art style although a different background would give the game more visual depth however at its current state it is great.

When Life Gives You Lemons by sebastianscaini 2018-08-14T20:59:06Z

I love the graphical and audio parts of this game, with the main menu song being on point. The animations and smoothness of the movement is also great. Also, the twist of the "When life gives you lemons" idea is inventive and makes for a great game. However i did feel like the game was a bit too easy as well as the theme not really being addressed fully. However i think if the spawn rate was increased slightly then it would feel like you were running out of space whereas currently you can easily avoid the lemons by moving around the map.

Pre Alpha Build by PlusMinus 2018-08-15T19:39:49Z

Great game overall, with the music being on point and some of the sound effects being very well made. The graphics were very good and the overall game design was well put together. However i did find that the destroy button didn't open for me once whilst playing, maybe i didn't last long enough. Very polished, however it is a shame that there was not a tutorial. This game fits the theme well however if you position your buildings correctly - like the comments above have, you don't seem to need to have any more space. Good game.

Cherrytales - Cherryboy and Briar Princess by Beebo Studios 2018-08-14T19:49:26Z

I love the art style and the effort that went into the backstory, however the web version of the game kept crashing on me. But the desktop version worked fine and supplied me with an enjoyable playing experience. This game fits the theme very well and the shrooms were a very good idea. I have only one that could be improved upon when selecting the area for the shroom to effect is just a white box, i would have been nice to have had some of that cool art for the selected area, however i understand that the time restraints would have prevented this. Overall a great game. :)

Orbiteer by BitPhinix 2018-08-14T22:14:07Z

I enjoyed the game, it is a very unique twist on the theme. The art style is nice a simplistic with the hearts and the fuel icons fitting in the scene very nicely. However i did find that the amount of area you have to get the ships into orbit is a bit too small, allowing (probably just me) to get a max of two ships in orbit before everything collapsed in on me. Overall a fun and enjoyable game.

Dystopia Tycoon by Hare Software 2018-08-15T19:29:01Z

Nice little game, the graphics were nice. I liked that you included a full tutorial seeing as i wouldn't have know what was what otherwise. The game fits the theme very well, making this a very good entry into the Ludum Dare. For some reason however i didn't find myself having as much fun as i first though i would, seeing as i normally like tycoon-like games. Overall the game is well done and the background noises made the overall game more calming.

Dropa Poker by Skyc 2018-08-17T14:18:55Z

The tetris style of dropping cards was interesting, yet not overly unique. The graphics made it hard to distinguish between each card type, maybe having a number of image on each card to make it more obvious? The audio is quite good, but the overall fun of the game is limited because it feels like i'm playing a strict Tetris game - which deletes a line once you get five in a row horizontally. It is nice that you have included touch friendliness and done an android build.

Groundfall by Arcus 2018-08-15T19:20:04Z

Shame really that you only made it for a game maker build, as this reduces your demographic significantly. Maybe use a different game engine next time or do an export build.

Zombie Escape by Player 2 2018-08-16T22:45:39Z

@megalink thank you for the positive words, and kind feedback. The game was intended to be a one level game so we understand how replaying the level could get repetitive. Thank you for your feedback.

Space Shipping by RubixNoob13 2018-08-16T18:55:02Z

This game fits the theme really well however it does feel like the game has a set limited length, which is determined by random occurrences. The Tetris style blocks fit the game really well and is a good addition. However, as you are only able to select one cargo i didn't run out of space on my ship and ended up just going until i ran out of fuel. Good game overall, lots of potential to build from on the idea.

Street Sucker by KostblLb 2018-08-16T19:18:04Z

The idea you were going for is - in my opinion - a good one however the execution was lacking in certain areas. For example a tutorial to explain what is happening in the game would be a good edition. Furthermore, the music could have been more directed towards actual game music instead of church bells (but i get you were going for a Vampire setting.) The smoothness of the character movement is nice and the simplistic nature of the game was good. The graphics could have been improved slightly and if you could directly hinder your opponent even more then i think the game would become more fast paced. For example, if you could get a pickup in the middle of a yellow patch - to take health off you to gain an advantage on your opponent. The pickup could do something like make half the remaining area of the opponents turn yellow. Overall a decent upload.

LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Resist and Persist by conrad123 2018-12-09T23:33:12Z

This game is extremely fun to play, and even through i got overrun very quickly i still feel like i got quite far into the game, in terms of waves survived.

The sfx and music fit the theme very well, also, the Ludum Dare theme fit very well with the style you have made, making this one of the strongest entries that i have seen over the past week or so.

The only criticism i have is that the font of the text was very hard to read, but unlike some people above i had the option of avoiding the web option - so all the text was on screen. (Thanks for the warning to avoid the web version) Furthermore, some more visual or audio feedback telling you you have lost a planet would be appreciated, because at one point i flew off to meet a wave and came back to four planets with 0% shield left.

Overall i enjoyed this entry massively.

DerpSpace by Pixel Greg 2018-12-09T00:14:50Z

The game fit the theme extremely well and was very enjoyable to play whilst hunting around the map to see what ridiculous places the astronauts had gotten themselves into. The controls were very intuitive and easy to control, and the mini-map was not only really helpful, but very well executed overall. The graphics were charming and unique, with a touch of character in each of the astronauts. The voice acting was a nice touch, and the music fit the style of the game very well. However, i did find that if you got stuck in-between an arriving astronaut to the spacestation then it bombards you with the same phrase over and over again. But overall i think this game deserves more reviews and plays than it currently has, solid entry.

Together by beta 2018-12-10T17:47:43Z

When i was first reading through the page of this game i thought that they guy was trying to guess what you were drawing, however after a few seconds of playing it became very obvious that this was not the case.

The theme of this ludum dare fit very well with this game, even though some sacrifices actually helped me draw some pictures. For example, i had to sacrifice my heater and then had to draw a dog, so that ended up being a bit easier to do.

Also, the music ended up being fairly annoying after long periods of gameplay, however for the length of this game fit quite well.

Overall, a fun and different game from what i have been seeing so far this ludum dare.

(I also forgot to screenshot my pictures)

Air Drop! by digitaldude555 2018-12-05T17:06:30Z

Liked the way you incorporated sacrificing people into a classic top down shooter mechanic.

The Grassland Kings by Mathstr0fficial 2018-12-07T16:11:19Z

Through my playing of the game i didn't even beat the first enemy, as the amount of projectiles were too high for me to avoid, and the angles at such random amounts made getting close enough to swing without being hit almost impossible.

Also, i would like to see the health bars added as this would give more of an indication of progress, as well as maybe a projectile weapon (A bow would fit with the theme). As well as adding more to the game the bow would also make the game easier overall as you don't have the risk of accidentally running into the enemy.

Overall through the game was well made, and bug free.

Chopping Block by speakertone 2018-12-06T23:02:13Z

Overall I enjoyed the game, the difficulty curve felt rewarding when you successfully solved an extremely filled screen first try. It is a fairly intensive memory test when you get to the later levels, however this increased the fun of the game for me, and i would like to see more levels made for it.

I did find that in the really full levels the bottom row of buttons were not clickable, however you could solve all the levels without clicking any so all's good.

The artwork was simplistic and overall fairly good and appealing.

Good job making such a fun game that is also quite difficult.

Itza Panic by Taffaz 2018-12-04T18:35:59Z

I got to a respectable level 41, however i do not feel like much further is possible. Overall an interesting idea and fairly well executed. the graphics are obviously not the best but this is a game jam so they don't really matter. I personally don't feel like a tutorial was necessary as the game is very self explanatory. Finally, the game could have done with some music, even if it was a free download from online, to add more atmosphere.

Death's Reward by manuu 2018-12-06T22:37:44Z

I enjoyed my play though, however, i would rather a method of playing the game in which you don't have to deliberately die at certain points - for example opening the draw bridge - this could incorporate a skill throw or something to trigger the lever instead of you having to die. The only reason i mentioned this is because after i walked a while to get to the draw bridge section, having successfully not died by enemies, i was then forced to die and walk back.

But the mood was well done, and the immersion was fairly well thought out.

The only criticism i have is that the theme could have been incorporated more thoughtfully in relation to gameplay.

Altruist Project by syverlauritz 2018-12-05T17:19:39Z

I liked to concept, however i was unable to get anywhere near the end goal as it just seemed to only keep going until your luck ran out. Apart from the luck factor the graphics were great and the atmosphere overall very gripping. Also, it fits the theme well, with you having to balance your equipment and people well, bringing a strategy aspect to the game. But, in one scenario i had 3 people and deliberately chose to go around a specific room because i thought it would have a trap in it, so i clicked to walk into the rooms around it and one of my group walked into the darkened room regardless and died. (Just something to possibly consider.) Overall a great concept and very fitting with the theme

Catrifices by MrPiedPiper 2018-12-06T23:12:49Z

Overall i enjoyed my playthough of the game, however i (as well as many other people apparently) thought the portals were the drop off points - even through you did make it clear that they weren't so that is my fault there. Furthermore, the time taken to pick up cats is deceptively longer than i expected at first, causing me to take a few unnecessary hits to save those poor cats.

Also, the audio in the game is very good overall, and the animations for the characters was very good for a game jam. Overall there is a surprisingly high level of polish for someone's first game, as well as the theme being fit very well overall.

To conclude i enjoyed the game, and would like to see what you can produce in the next ludum dare in four months.

The Curse of the Conquistador by Myrrhe 2018-12-06T22:15:37Z

Overall i enjoyed the game, the music fit very well into the game and the puzzle aspect was very enjoyable. The only thing i would like to be changed is to have more enemies, but with less health each. Furthermore, this would add more of an avoiding aspect to the game, rather than running circles around enemies and shooting them util they die.

Long Live The King! by Player 2 2018-12-04T22:03:46Z

Quick question to all who have played it: who has actually gotten the king to the exit. Just so I can judge how difficult the game is.

Long Live The King! by Player 2 2018-12-12T20:01:17Z

@alext-design Thank you for playing and reviewing our game, i am not too sure why it crashed your pc. I am unsure if you mean the game crashed the pc down to rebooting, or if you were just unable to open any other programs. The game does use a technique which covers your desktop, making you unable to open any other icons on your desktop, if this was the problem. If the game fully crashed your pc then i don't know what the issue could be.

Thank you for including our game in the video, and for reviewing.

Just delete them by Dock Frankenstein 2018-12-09T23:46:00Z

I like the idea you were going for, of which i find very unique.

However, the music fit the game, but in my opinion was too sharp (if you know what i mean), maybe you could have gone for a more soothing backing music track.

As i was playing through the game it all went black at one point and i was just sat there for about a minute or two not understanding what happened. Is this meant to happen or am i missing something? It happened after i left the first room and got into the corridor.

The mood of the game was fairly consistent. Also, i have never seen a game using this mechanic so working on this game post ludum dare to develop the idea into more may be worth considering.

Save your taco by Luis recinos 2018-12-08T23:52:54Z

Concept was good, not sure how it linked to the theme though. The flies movement was accurate and smooth and the gun was a unique method of killing the flies. The introduction was not very clear and there were no control instructions or guide. It was a fun idea and difficult to complete.

Pull Yourself Together by Brevitius 2018-12-06T22:25:31Z

Nice and frustrating plat-former, with a very brutal movement mechanic - by this i mean once you've picked up the first piece of the armor your downwards acceleration is extremely high, making the maneuvering between that spice section towards the end close to impossible (Close to because i managed to do it). Overall i enjoyed the experience and didn't find any bugs to report, so a solid entry in my opinion.

LD49 — Unstable

Connection Lost by mvasko2 2021-10-07T20:37:03Z

Nice entry! I enjoyed the game when I figured out how to play it more effectively. Initially I was just trying to drive too close to the van and was getting quite heavily punished for it. But when I started hanging back towards the edge of the radius the game became a fair bit easier to play overall. The art and music are very nice, and I found myself keeping wanting to go for another go when I failed close to 100% complete. One thing I found overly harsh was the cornering, with that the van turns to instantly face the new direction when you can’t, and that the corners are all sharp edges, meaning that messing up a corner even slightly causes a hit to your health. I think either having smoothed corners or having there being an off-road bit around each corner would make the game feel less harsh. Overall a nice different take on the theme.

SIRTET by Aggrathon 2021-10-15T23:00:33Z

A nicely polished entry! The idea fits the theme quite well, and the different levels kept it interesting as you played more. I would have liked to have the next piece to drop being displayed so you can plan a little further ahead. But a fun game overall!

My Ordinary Life by fabY 2021-10-05T16:20:46Z

I loved playing this game! The art style was really cute, especially the woollen looking character and the low poly cars. The music fit the game really well, giving a nice calm mood overall. I enjoyed the quests given, especially the difficult collection of the dog from a rooftop. And then the curve ball that you need to collect the boxes from the roof you have just jumped down from as well. The only criticism I have is that from transitioning from some areas to others the camera wont start transitioning before the player is at the edge of the screen. Apart from the camera thing though, this is one of the best submissions I’ve played so far!

Pong-Anoid by Zapturk 2021-10-05T11:43:24Z

An interesting idea for a game blend, but a shame that there wasn’t a single player option as requiring two local players is not ideal for a game jam. The sound design was satisfying and really added to the feel of the game. And, even playing solo controlling both paddles, it was quite fun.

Devil's Sitter by VPhyre 2021-10-07T20:56:25Z

A nice idea for a game! The graphics were very well done, and the audio fit the game quite well. I agree with one of the other comments about how the controls could be refined a bit. Having separate buttons for picking up and dropping items it a little pointless to me, why not have both on ‘E’? One thing I really liked about the game though was the death animation, stays very true to the warning at the start of the game.

Vampiric Bullet Hell by Drunk Wizard 2021-10-06T18:19:40Z

The controls felt very smooth and nice to use, and the atmosphere was very well done overall. The animations and art were polished as well. I found the writing in the hallways is a bit hard to read, and I felt that the game was a fair bit shorter than I was expecting. But overall I felt that the experience was fun but not really fitting in with the theme in my opinion.

Unstable Balance by simonkmall 2021-10-07T20:43:29Z

A nice little game! The background music is brilliant and really adds to the feel of the game. I like how the balancing board is also physics based and can also bounce up off the centre. The only thing I disliked was that the larger balls hit the board slightly sooner than the smaller ones making it feel a little unfair that the heavier one always gets to affect the board first. But overall, a nice take on the theme!

Spacify by Sigo 2021-10-18T18:11:18Z

I loved this game! The audio is absolutely amazing for the time limit, and the visuals that tie into the music are great! The only criticism I have for the game is that it could have been made a lot harder, with a little more variety in what you have to do to collect the keys. For example, the speed of the game could have sped up gradually, or certain keys require the player to use their other hand to press a certain key or something. I also really liked the effect of the music breaking out when you get to a low stability!

Trenchrunner by curleysam 2021-10-05T16:34:35Z

Great game! The art was brilliant throughout. I loved the background music as it added so much atmosphere to the game as a whole. The game fit the theme very well and was very fun to play. And the trade-offs the player must make between venting their bomb and shooting was very well implemented, especially in the final level. I had a slight problem when running the game Fullscreen. When in Fullscreen and I hit about halfway through the game it started lagging a ton. Playing through in windowed worked perfectly though. A solid entry overall.

Precarious Powers by DrSnowDude 2021-10-13T14:47:37Z

This is a very visually stunning game! The graphics throughout were brilliant, with only a few cases of z-fighting that I saw. The idea of having three separate mana counters was clever, but I think it may have been better to have the negative effect be triggered when one runs out instead of one filling up completely. This would have forced the player to be more calculated as to when they used the spells instead of just spamming them whenever they are available. Overall a strong entry into the jam!

Unstable by IkerNoya 2021-10-14T15:34:34Z

Cool post processing effects and over saturated graphics. It gave the game a somewhat radioactive feeling overall, which blends with the theme well. Something I disliked was that it didn’t feel like you were in complete control of the cube due to it being floaty. This combined with that you are being chased can make it feel frustrating when you lose because the cube took too long to land. But overall a nice entry!

Hexatris by josher 2021-10-14T15:45:18Z

Nice simple graphics style! The game fits the theme very well and is enjoyable to play for a while. One thing I was expecting was to be able to match up entire loops and have them clear from the stack, as you said it was inspired by Tetris. But I don’t know if I was just missing by a small amount, but the pieces never seemed to line up to allow for a full loop to be made. And then a full loop dropped so I assume that the lines don’t clear. Some music would help with the game’s feel, but you removed yourself from that category so that’s fair enough.

Default cube game by Dreamerflow 2021-10-13T14:27:35Z

An interesting take on a platformer. The controls were a bit floaty for me and that made judging where you are going to land more tough than if they were heavier. I don’t get how the game relates to the theme of unstable, but using blender for a game is not something I have seen before!
