I really love the graphical style this game has, usual pixel art that isn't actually pixelated on a grid (can't rotate) doesn't work for me, but this is just hi-rez enough to work. The gameplay loop was great, and everything from shooting to the citizens evacuating felt very satisfying. (There was a good umph to most actions). The one thing I was missing was a feeling of progression. It would have been great to unlock new shooting patterns or even rockets as the game progressed, or maybe launch pods which can evacuate citizens during combat. Great job though, I would definitly play more of this if development continued.
Excellent game! The controls feel really smooth, very fun to play!

Good game ! The graphics are nice, but the reticule sight should be a bit more visible in my opinion.
The sounds are all good, as well as the musics. The ship is pretty maneuverable.

Really like your game! Everything seems well thought! Loved the concept you made with the theme! This is a game I would buy to play!

Graphics: The graphics are pretty nice :D (I love the trail renderer on the ships)
Gameplay: is good aswell [But maybe restricted the playing area a bit more or give the reason to explore)
Sound: Ok. Nothing spectecular but not bad :)
Overall: BURN THE XENOS AND EXTERMINATUS THE FALLEN PLANETS!

@capnat @lucecyl @casey-macneil thanks! We're glad you enjoyed.
Fantastic. The movement feels crisp. The art looks really good. The overlay adds a lot. The music is ok; the sound effects are a bit of a weak point. It might have been interesting to spread the planets out a little more to really drive home the need to sacrifice, but i'm just quibbling.
Really enjoyable and polished entry!

@justalocalhero yeah, there were a lot of things (such as abilities/upgrades for your ship, better sound, more planets etc.) we didn’t get to and unfortunately we didn’t really have the time to play around much with spreading the planets out. Thanks for the feedback!

Solid shooting and flying mechanics, fun gameplay, relaxing but moody music, very nice-looking art. I enjoyed this game.
I don't really feel very motivated by the notion of "getting as much score as possible" when there is no real objective or win condition. Score is kind of just an arbitrary number to me.
It didn't really feel like I was sacrificing anything, to be honest. It felt more like "wait until the planet's health is real low, then destroy it so you don't lose extra points".
But the combination of audio and art was very pleasing for me. It's a relaxing game to play, and it plays very well, especially considering the time constraint. Well done!
gameplay and graphics: 6/5, nice game
@caseyh Thanks for the feedback! Definitely agree with what you've said. I think that we didn't have the time to really emphasize the idea that the main objective is to let your people escape, and that sacrificing a planet means a loss of people, and a loss of future points. Definitely something that needs to be further emphasized if we continue development. Appreciate the honesty.

So nice!!
Movement feels really good and the overall gameplay is a lot of fun. Great game!
I like the game for sure. I think either my mouse pad sucks or your mouse targeting controls are a bit slow (laggy). Hopefully it's the former. I had a hard time targeting ships at times. It all worked out and the game certainly looks good. I see that other people had an awesome time though. So I'm guessing it's just me!!! Well done!!

Got a score of 431000. Very nice atmosphere and graphics! I think the player's shots could use a bit more weight - the shots just kind of disappear.

@jdelaay025johnd1788 I havent heard that one before, we can look in to it but I would check out your mousepad 😁
@chaosed0 yeah I definitely wanted to add some small explosions and similar effects to bullets but really didnt end up having the time. The last few hours before upload were chaos already 😂

Visually it's very clean, nice job! I didn't found some power ups, is there any? I ended finding myself going straight forward and shooting backward, it worked well :p I think mechanics with planet could be a bit more enhanced, for example giving you more health of some power ups.. Nice entry :)
This was a neat game with a great presentation. There should be more enemy types and player weapons, otherwise the player wont feel very rewarded. The objective also needs to be more interesting, so the player feels more motivated.
Nice job.
Nice shooter and visually gorgeous. Music is hypnotic. A great entry ++
Interesting, I also made a top-down shooter ;) Graphics are nice and with a lot of detail, I liked the trail effects. I found it a bit confusing initially, since the game is fast-paced with things happening off-screen. Sacrificing planets is definitely an interesting approach to the theme. Good job :)
Very nice game! Sacrificing planets was a cool feature, and the game had a nice difficulty—not too hard, but certainly not easy. The graphics and audio fit very well. Having the indicators for where enemies were was very nice and useful. I would only say that it would have been nice to be able to sacrifice planets earlier—when they got exactly to zero it was often too late.
This was one of the more fun games I have played this round. Great job!

Super cool game, loved the art sound and arcade gameplay. Just wanted to suggest some kind of feedback when you attack an enemy, that would be badass and perfect for the game style.

Pros: - Great level of polish, nice game feel - Cool pixel graphics, consistent art style - Like the sound design and music - Good use of theme in theory (though I almost always died before I actually had to sacrifice any planets) - Most of all, it's fun!
Cons: - Font is kind of hard to read - Ending is too abrupt. I'd like to see my ship explode and planets fall to the enemy before "game over" pops up - Balance-wise it seemed my ship's shields were the bottleneck. Maybe if I could siphon shield energy off my planets, there'd be more of a "sacrifice" element to it and I could keep playing longer. At the very least my shields should recharge a bit during downtime or something.
Thoughts and suggestions: - I have a hard time with mouse aiming in games like this. I'd love the option to play with a controller as a twin-stick shooter - It'd be nice if the offscreen indicators communicated some level of urgency. Maybe bigger/darker arrows depending on how close the enemy is? Right now it's hard to tell which enemies to prioritize - It's almost impossible to take down big ships before they disgorge their fighters. It'd be nice if I could intercept them on their way in and take them out to save myself some mopping up later - Some more variety to the combat would be cool. You could add a superweapon on right-click (like a bomb that wipes out all nearby enemies) or maybe hold down left-click to charge my beam up Mega Man-style
Overall one of the better entries I've played, and one of the few I could see myself going back and playing more. Very nice work.
This was fun. Nice retro graphics with a spin and sweet color palette. Tight controls. Kill that font on the instructions LOL. Music almost TOO soothing for this fast pace. The reticle made shooting extra fun.. Game a little too deep for me. I was confused a bit but figured out and charged on. Dying a bunch before any sacrifices.
Solid shooter. I really like the way that when a planet gets taken over, enemy guns can be placed making it another obstacle. The graphics and sfx are really good and go together well.
I'm not the best at twin stick shooters, and I think the smaller enemy ships moving slower would have made it more fun for me. When a wave came in I was swarmed instantly. Although blowing them all up is quite satisfying.
I appreciate you mention in the text to avoid the web version, but that was the one I had to play. I had problems reading the text in the instructions. Very blurry. Plus some of it was off the screen. Also you cannot leave the instructions. I had to close the web page and go back in to play the game.
It would have been nice to see my ship blow up at the end and some game over text, rather than it immediately going to the menu screen.

@renegadepunisher @marvalgames @rumor @rodel77 @artur-hawkwing @evan-leibman @geckoo1337 @caseyh @grena
thank you all so much! Really appreciate the feedback. I definitely would have liked to put in a better death/game over animation but time was short 😂
If we developed more we would definitely add a twin stick controller option, but again; time was tight for this one.
Font definitely should be improved. We just tried to find something on the asset store that vaguely matched the retro style. We would make our own good font if we continued development.
Rumor, great idea! Being able to siphon shields from the planets would have been a great addition. (Maybe we'll add that later if we work more)
Definitely would like to add feedback for shooting enemies.
Thanks again all! Hopefully I didnt miss anything. Hope your journey through this ludum dare was as great as ours was.
(Edit: upgrades/more fire modes were also something we had in our original idea, but had to cut due to time restraints. But we'd add them for sure if we decided to finish this game.)

This game is extremely fun to play, and even through i got overrun very quickly i still feel like i got quite far into the game, in terms of waves survived.
The sfx and music fit the theme very well, also, the Ludum Dare theme fit very well with the style you have made, making this one of the strongest entries that i have seen over the past week or so.
The only criticism i have is that the font of the text was very hard to read, but unlike some people above i had the option of avoiding the web option - so all the text was on screen. (Thanks for the warning to avoid the web version) Furthermore, some more visual or audio feedback telling you you have lost a planet would be appreciated, because at one point i flew off to meet a wave and came back to four planets with 0% shield left.
Overall i enjoyed this entry massively.
Your game was played on my stream ( https://www.twitch.tv/ursagames/videos ) on the sixth day of Ludum Dare streams. Thank you for sharing your game with us! You can find the timestamp of when your game was played here: https://goo.gl/N2rkr8
Nice! i would just addd impact feedback, because the ship's lasers do not look to be really doing something against the enemies until they literaly explode... and also reduce the enemies health and double the amount of enemies just to increase your game's juiceness... the sounds are a bit anying i would suggest some polyshing like a procedural ambience, some variation on the ship's lasers pitch and volume and eveen increase the tension of the music by the amount of enemies surrounding the protagonist ship
