I love the concept that you made this game in 48 hours, but you should really consider to made more responsive controls. I recommend you to play Mario or A Hat in Time to understand what I'm talking about.
I like the concept with shrinking ground and sky, but I didn't understand what's the point of coins
Anyway, nice job!
Cute little game! Finished it without dying once.
I agree with @bronydell that controls should be more responsibe. The character is falling very slowly...
I didn't rate you in Audio because there was no sound. Is that normal? Also, why did you opt-out the graphics category? Didn't you make them?
@quetzakol Thanks for the Feedback. I miss red the "opt" thing and basically put in inverted settings. Could you relate it with the correct ones?
@bronydell Thanks for the feedback, I will take this into consideration for next time! Also, I messed up my "opt-out" settings (property to little sleep), could you update your votes with the new and correct ones?

I really like graphics and concept of the game. Keep it up! By the way, I died more in tutorial than in real game :D
Absolutely lovely game. Very nice graphics, but no sound? Well, you were probably busy with other thing. The game felt slow though, but on it also game the game another feel. Controls with WASD is fine, but i would love to be able to steer with arrow keys, as i normally play platformers with my right hand. The levels are nicely crafted and each one gives a fair bit of challenge (especially when you want the coin). I had much fun playing those 5 levels, and would like to play more (if you made them). Also the menu is very nice, with appealing colors.
The game seemed quiet fun. Some audio would have been nice and maybe something to make the screen more dramatic when the sides are moving closer. Good work.
@kamikaziuk Thanks, adding something when the walls get closer is a really nice suggestion and would have added so much more!
@gamejmunk Yeah I ran out of time so adding in audio wasn't really possible. I had Arrow Keys in the game during development, but it seems like i accidentally removed it at some point.
@c0nst4ntin I updated my ratings ;)
@quetzakol Thanks!
I like the art style and your level design is really good. However, I find levels pretty easy, even if i collect coins. Great job!
I like the art style. Reminds me of one of my favorite youtuber's art style. I will say that I found that you can walk to the castle after touching the gray bars and you will beat the level. It's a nice short game but I do wish there was music. I think the player movement does feel floaty but I don't mind that since you do jump pretty high.

I think the time limit works against you when it comes to making interesting levels. Having such a short amount of time means you only have time to go from A to B with one quick detour.
An element that can delay the closing might help a bit, Somehing that the player can spend time to collect to maybe gain more time than it took.

It was cute and fun and the graphics were very nice, but I didn't hear any audio. Also you should put it on itch.io just saying because more people can have access to the game and try it out!

Make a remake!
Simple enough design and you survived the compo!
@yamiog I'm working on a game engine at the moment. Once it is done, I will rewrite it to get an old friend to do some audio, and then I will publish it maybe.

I did it! =) Good Job! I loved a palette you used as well as transition screens, cute.
Nice job, grabbed the coin on each level. I hated the floaty jump at first but it is perfect because it forces you to think if you should jump or not. Good job
A cute little game! It has fun mechanics and very nice visuals. My only real feedback is that sound would have made the experience so much better, but it's always something you can add in later!
Nice game!
@gmaker @oskarolausson @sebastianscaini Thanks a lot for the Feedback!

The game was a bit short but a) it's a gamejam b) it was compo and c) it looks really good! Would at some point like more levels! Keep up the good work!

Super interesting to see another type of execution with the same interpretation of the theme than the one I did :) Although sound is missing, all the rest is well done! I can only understand how hard it is to nail different levels while crafting a game in compo mode (was the first time I did it alone, and man I suffered). So to recap in a few words, well played sir!
good game, as people have already said, would be great for more levels. But for a compo game, fantastic!
The graphics looks well together I liked the transitions between levels. It would be cool if there was some sound effects, I guess it's harder in pure java than it is with a game engine ? It still was a fun experience overall
cool platformer, just wish it coulda been more challenging and with more levels

A good game idea, the music should be improved. The graphics are good. Try our game too, maybe you'll like it)
@inferture To make it work in Java I would have to include 3 libraries. This would have increased the download and effected in-game performance.
@owen-davies @awix @balduvian-dead Thank you all for your Feedback.

Graphics and concept is really simple, which I think good for this sort of games. I don't really like platformers, but I think you did a pretty good job. Keep going !!!

Nice platformer with the theme implemented as a twist. You could add more levels that have vertical walls.

Cute simple game
Really simple and cute game! well done!
A cool concept, and the graphics were really nice. My only problem with it is that the jumping felt quite floaty.
@firehawk @timbals @hagrida @zephyrextreme @admiralspacekraken Thank you all for the Feedback I will take your suggestions into consideration if I rewrite it.

I couldn't get the game to run on macos :( I executed the Jar file, but all I get is a blank window.
@andy-d Have you extracted the zip? Otherwise, it won't work!

Yeah, I did. I've tried both launching the `Borderblast - Game.jar` directly, and extracting it and running `java -classpath . com.constantin.ludumdare.Game` (I moved the `res` folder into the extracted jar too). But all I get is a window with "Borderblast - Constantin Ross" as the title, but nothing in it. When I run in the terminal, I get the same blank window, and the output `Laoding image: /backgrounds/menu.gif...`
@andy-d That is weird, cause I had people on mac play it before! Anyway, thanks for trying!

You already rated mine so don't bother. I would like if you made the game have a faster pace in general because it was kind slow(might just be me) like super meat boy or just turn up the gravity because I would get impatient waiting to fall back down to the ground(might just be again). Also be sure to add audio!
Hello!
This game is very good, your age and the time you did it is very good. I am 15 years old and I am a programmer too, it is very good to see someone of my age in these parts.
What if I feel bad are the controls, it's a little complicated to move, however, the graphic style is very nice, and considering that you have done it alone (I do not have any artistic feat :P) is a very good game.
Excellent work!
I finished, but I did die a couple times. Definitely could have used sound, but even without sound I had fun playing it and it really made me tense up on a couple close calls. Impressive that you used Java as opposed to an engine, so I have nothing but the utmost respect for you in that aspect. I've made games both with and without engines, but I couldn't imagine doing a game using just Java, even with libraries, in one weekend for a jam. Maybe eventually as I am about to do a Java course for college, but at this moment, I'm still using engines for jams. Great job!!
Very fun, but would have loved if you had added a few more levels
A very cool little game! I had a little trouble with the download at first, but once I got past that, it was a pretty solid gaming experience! Ran a little slow on my computer, but I was still able to enjoy everything here, even though it isn't much. Level design was pretty good, and there were even collectibles to get! Good job, keep up the great work!

Great job on your Ludum Dare Entry especially for a compo. Pretty easy concept and interesting use of theme there with the crushing walls. Good job on making the full package even with tutorial. There was one part that made me laugh when I reached the castle and then fall because I moved too much. The aesthetics of your game looks really good too. Very nice consistent style. Great job on your submission. Would be nice to see more difference between levels.

Hehe you could have called the game castle crusher. Simple but well defined gameplay. Good job :)

@somuch nice suggestion for the name!

Nice platformer game with simplistic and appealing graphics. The controls are very smooth and well controllable. It is a shame that there is no music as it would increase your immersion in the game more. I appreciate that there is a tutorial, seeing as - although it is unnecessary in some cases - not everyone automatically knows how to play certain types of games. However if the levels incorporated the theme even more, than just having a smaller play area over time then it would be nice. But the submission is a great one none-the-less.

I quite liked the look of this game! In one of the levels, the game passed me even though I had touched a border before touching the castle. Otherwise, the game was solidly implemented. Overall a good job.

Once again, I don't understand why your menus aren't navigable with the keyboard when the rest of your game plays with it. I think the physics are a bit too floaty for it to be a really enjoyable platformer. Aside from that it is a pretty good entry, graphics are neat, it only lacks more levels. Kudos.

i have java 1.7.0 and cant run the game. maybe some help..? i tried running it from the file explorer and command prompt but nothing seems to work.
@ocekat3 It is written in Java 1.8.* so there are probably some compiler issues.
Like the graphics! Well done man!

Quite solid game, but for some reason everything feels way too slow. Makes it easier to complete though :)
Sounds would really have helped!
Like the art and presentation overall. Controls felt floaty and would have been nice to seem some other mechanic to help differentiate it. Nevertheless a worthy entry!
@endurion and @carlos-giraldo Thank you for the Feedback!

Cute simple game. A bit hard to play with AZERTY keyboard in the beginning !
@antonin Thanks for the Feedback, I kind of forgot that Keyboard layout, when I started adding Arrow key support into my games a few years ago. But this time I forgot the arrow keys as well (probably due to too little sleep and time problems).

All game as if in slow mo ! ;d but generally good, neat graphics !
Really enjoyed the game! I can't really think of anything in terms of feedback except perhaps considering more levels, and maybe adding a spinning animation or something to the coin. Also, good work building this in Java in the limited time. I know with programming an Android game, coding everything was tough as nails haha (I hate Bitmaps and Canvas >.<).
@jared-york Thank you for the Feedback!
Cute little game I liked it.
Please do check out our game and leave us some feedback as well.
Neat pixel art, platforming controls feel kind of floaty though, would be great with some sound FX or music.

Cute little game! I enjoyed playing it, it was over too soon. The graphics are nice. The controls/gravity could maybe be slightly improved in my opinion. Also, I would have liked to see my score in the last screen. When collecting a coin, it felt a bit weird to drag it along with the player for the rest of the level. Somehow the font and the colors in between levels make me happy.
Well done!
