Haha very funny entry, I'm not very good though I couldn't get past level 2 and my best score is 3560. I don't really understand how lives work, if there's a hidden health bar before you lose one, I'd rather be able to see if I'm close to losing a life. Congrats!

@lucien, the icon of Jesus on top left border is your life. the yellow circle becomes smaller when your are been touched
Very cool game mechanics, and as friendly as I try to be, that art style scares me.
Don't take this the wrong way, your game is cool, and it's well done for a game made in 72 hours, my only complaint is the art
This is like a fever dream. Absolutely hilarious. When the Level 2 text popped up I busted out laughing, it's just so absurd. The juxtaposition of so much jesus imagery and then just random angry birds and clip art is great.
I thought the gameplay was actually pretty good, I don't like bullet hells generally but this was pretty fun.
I loved the DOOM style health indicator where your halo gets smaller with each hit, classic. Music was pretty lit too.
One criticism: the heartbeat sound when you get down to one life is really loud, took me a moment to figure out what the noise was.
Also very cool you wrote the engine from scratch, don't see that very much!

@nathan-wash, thank you for your feed back. I increased the sound volume in a hurry because it was far too weak.
It was...an interesting experience xD a funny game with cool mechanics. Could use a bit of polishing but it was fun.
Nice game

AHahah, that was so FUN. Jesus that shoot fist into angels. BTW you can use github releases to publish your game, its better way that just add it to repo.

@team-on , thank your for github advice. I didn't know about that. I ll have a look
Lots of shoot em up are very generic with space or military theme, so this theme stands out a lot, have never seen any shoot em up like that before. I think it would add if some gameplay mechanics would tie into the theme, like walk on water or turning water into wine etc, also explain how the enemies fit into the theme. But tbh great style stands out today, that’s something a lot of games lack, and it's something players remember!

@ristoretto : Thank you very much. At the end of "Life of Brian" from the Monthy Python, during the ending song, they say “We come from nothing, we are going back to nothing-In the end what have we lost? Nothing!” . That's what inspired me for that subject. As a second point. You start with no power up, and gain some during the run.
@shubart ah, I think that the game fit the theme of the game jam very well, I meant the theme / setting with Jesus, if the enemies or abilities could be more connected to that :)
I'm not sure what I just experienced but I'm glad I did. 5/7

Not sure either what i played but it was realy fun ! Good choice of music and theme interpretation. Congrats !
Had some strange control issues, once I moved up or down I couldn't stop until I moved left or right.

@empty-set : were you playing with keyboard or gamepad ?
I like the uh, creative direction.
I'm not quite sure how it fits the theme. But that was interesting.

This was pretty fun! Having tried several of your previous Ludum Dare entries, I can also say that difficulty balancing has improved, the enemy patterns are difficult but not impossible and I could reach level 2 with some practice.
The general mood and humour reminded me of the old Jeff Minter games such as Revenge of the Mutant Camels: revenge.png

@samh : thank you. I didn't know about the mutant camels. Look great !
No. Words! 🤣

Nice. That was great, though there were a couple frustrating parts around the place. The sliding after moving was particularly annoying, and made it pretty hard to control the character, if there was one thing that I would remove, it would be that. Otherwise, great job.

@chao : thanks for your feedback. I do agree with that. I will fix this issue after the LD45 is over.

Funny game :)
Definitely an unusual theme with the art choice and music, but the gameplay is at least fun. The enemy patterns are varied and keep it entertaining. The difficulty is also reasonably balanced.
The game could really use more feedback for the player. Indications of how much health an enemy has left would be nice. ie. slightly changing the sprite art for each hit they take could help. I also don't see any kind of health bar for the player. As someone else mentioned, the heartbeat sound on the last life is very loud/annoying. Maybe only have it go off for the first 2-3 seconds and make it quieter?
Overall a decent game jam attempt and an example of good game balance.

@thecritterscove : the Jesus icon on the upper left corner shows you how much health you ve got.
@shubart Weird, that's what I originally thought. When I was playing through it earlier, I was watching the portrait to see if it changed, but didn't notice anything. Maybe it's too subtle as it nears the end? Either way, it would benefit from being more visually obvious.

The first thing that came to my mind was that you should be careful about ownership rights of images and audio in your game, especially if the ludum dare rules mention it. :slight_frown: And I do understand, that the point of making this was a little meme-y, but it still is a little off-putting to me.
Other than that, the game is pretty difficult from the get go, I would add a difficulty curve of some sort to the game.
Maybe I would play a little with the controls, the movement is a little fast for me to slip past enemies without a scratch.
I think the game is doing well in other aspects.
I liked the game, but a lot of the execution of your idea was sloppy, in my opinion.

Pretty funny, even if it seems to be from the "LUL SO RANDOM" variety. Rabbits and bees? Why? The theme doesn't make any sense at all, but it is rather satisfying to blow up entire screens once you luck out and stack a few spread and fire rate bonuses.
However, I am NOT giving you a high Audio score for a Depeche Mode track. (At least putting Personal Jesus there does fit thematically.) You're supposed to at least use "derivative works", not other people's content.
that's some wicked shit, love it!

@lumos : you re fully right concerning the music, i should have removed this category. i didn t do so because i was hoping some comment about how my choices fit the theme. But this was a bad idea.
