LD38 — A Small World

Calor by stevenjmiller 2017-05-07T11:39:43Z

Man, I didn't expect to see something this deep and complicated in a Ludum Dare entry. Fantastic job, I really liked the idea of having to rotate the planet to power different buildings, but also to destroy aliens, thereby creating an interesting trade off. The combat system was also really interesting, though it would have been nice to be able to drag a line instead of clicking each hex. The visuals and music were both fine, and I especially liked the short story interludes between each mission giving some back story.

Overall, fun strategical challenge with a bunch of interesting ideas that carry it through till the end.

Protolife by icxon 2017-05-02T11:13:01Z

Nice tower defense like game. I really loved the way the green resource bits obeyed the rules of conways game of life, it was pretty awesome when I noticed it the first time.

It was a bit tedious at the end to clean up all the fragments of infection, but overall it made for a fun experience.

The audio and art style was also all very well done.

Gnome Digger by bobsleigh 2017-05-08T10:54:13Z

Really fun game, everything worked except for the dynamite, you might want to fix that. It seemed to just not collide with anything, falling forever. This was kind of weird near the start area, but actually caused the game to crash at the end, as it would fall off the edge of the world. Other than that, very enjoyable, played through the whole thing.

Agaric Abyss by chris-delta 2017-05-16T12:43:07Z

Hey, another Löve game, nice. I'm impressed with the level of quality you managed to fit in given 3 days, those water shaders and the mushroom physics felt just right. I really liked the idea of a platformer where you have to grow the platforms, but it might have been nice to have some way to destroy plants, sometimes it felt like I had way too many shrooms and they were just getting in the way. Otherwise, great game! Had a unique and fun idea.

littleBLASTplanet by gamepopper 2017-05-11T11:18:45Z

Fun game! Best I managed to get was 57 seconds.

Don't really have much criticism, everything worked really well and the game was overall fun. Covered a good scope for a Ludum Dare entry, not too complex an idea executed brilliantly. Only thing I could complain about is the size of the screen, since all the enemies fell from the sky, it would have been nice to have a bit more warning of this.

Space Mailman by Kepons 2017-05-19T13:20:34Z

Fun game, was surprised by the amount of content, especially when I discovered the laser upgrade. Although it was challenging, it was a good kind of challenge, and I definitely improved over my attempts. One thing that I would recommend changing is the screen size, make it changeable. There were many times when I crashed into planets just because I didn't see them in time. These kind of deaths felt like I was losing not because of a lack of skill, but a lack of information. Other than that, was a great game.

Until Tomorrow by MSiddeek 2017-05-16T11:39:39Z

Fantastic job, loved every minute of it. The story telling achieved here is incredible for something made in 72 hours, everything fit together so well to create a fantastic atmosphere and general feeling of mystery. You've inspired me to aim for greater heights next LD.

Tiny Battlehex by meisterfuu 2017-05-07T12:32:38Z

Nice strategy game with lots of potential. This could be fantastic in a multiplayer setting, you would just have to fix a couple balance issues such as the random map generation putting too many buildings on one side, and you could have a seriously entertaining and strategic experience. Some small interface problems that I had were that it would be nice if you could hold down left mouse button to send continually instead of send half, maybe make send half shift click or something. Also, a hotkey to jump back to your base would be really nice. I also really liked how each building type was associated with a terrain, so different buffs weren't just spread randomly all over the place, but were centered in specific strategic locations. Overall great fun to figure out how to beat the AI, great job.

Bullet Wrap by Chao 2017-05-01T12:37:13Z

Thanks for all the feedback guys!

@huvaakoodia Nice score. I think the highest I got was around 170ish.

Bullet Wrap by Chao 2017-05-02T12:52:19Z

Thanks for all the great feedback! The addition of a health bar wouldn't really make that much sense, given that the size of the world is meant to represent your health. Maybe I should make that a bit more clear, if that wasn't apparent.

Also, @unit684 I think that's a problem with some keyboards, I think if I add the option to shoot with z instead of space bar it might fix it, as you can only not move when you're shooting(at least from what I've seen elsewhere).

Bullet Wrap by Chao 2017-05-07T12:38:10Z

@icxon Oh man, I can't believe I didn't see that when I first posted it. Thanks for pointing it out, just amended it (and made it bold for good measure).

You Are World. by amras0000 2017-05-02T12:28:35Z

Absolutely beautiful. All the sound music and visuals add up to create an amazing experience. Great job, probably the best entry I've played so far.

Meteor Jam by PeachTreeOath 2017-05-11T11:05:40Z

Really nice idea and execution, had a lot of fun with this one.

Having to deal with the collapsing world while also collecting ore felt great, but perhaps got a bit stale towards the end. Maybe having other hazards like volcanic eruptions or earthquakes or something would fix this.

The graphics and sound were all good enough, didn't feel jaunty or anything with the animations and the explosion effects and noise were sufficient to add impact to the meteors. The slight curvature of the planet was a nice touch, though this could maybe have been emphasized a bit more to make more sense with the size of the world.

There were some bugs that I noticed as well, that could use fixing. I think you messed up the double jump detection a bit, as touching a wall seemed to give you back your jumps, not just the floor. This wasn't too abusable in game, as hugging the wall seemed to slow you down, but it's still probably a good idea to fix that. Also, dying didn't reset your rocket progress. Not sure if that's a bug, but if it isn't you should probably change it anyway. It felt like it was making the game easier, bug in a bad way. Giving your player the option to reset twice to finish the level is not a good way of decreasing difficulty, as this promotes repetitive gameplay.

Despite those relatively minor objections, this was a great entry, and I highly encourage you to pursue the idea further.

Supernova by Veralos 2017-04-30T11:11:04Z

Really nice audio and visual wise, each planet had a different color scheme and most had a different audio track, making the whole thing really nice to explore and experience.

The gameplay was fine, nothing too fancy, but it was fun moving through each of the planets, especially later on with the hazards.

I feel like it would have been a bit better however if there were a few less planets, as some of the areas were just copies of other planet's areas, which detracted from the exploration aspect.

Overall, was fun to play through, would recommend.

A World in a Jar by Zeknir 2017-05-01T11:54:03Z

Absolutely loved it. The music fit the mood perfectly and the plants all looked really nice, contributing to a fantastic mellow mood throughout. The puzzles were mostly just the right difficulty, with the hints given in the plant-o-pedia being just cryptic enough to be solvable without going over the top. I managed to get all the way to the end, and at no point did I feel I was at a block or that the game was slowing down at all.

Had a great time with this, can't wait to see what you guys do next.

Terrartisan by ladybenko 2017-05-02T11:21:38Z

Pretty cool, though simple, game. The puzzles were pretty simple, though they definitely did help to figure out how all the stuff evolved. Sometimes when I created a water tile underground, all the land turned fertile suddenly, which was kind of weird, but that was a pretty minor problem. Overall fun game.

Tiny Terraformer by Wheffle 2017-04-30T10:45:05Z

Neat exercise in optimization. Was fun trying to figure out the optimal combination of buildings, while also dealing with the various random events that came along. Like others have said, I really enjoyed the visual feedback of the atmosphere and water level, as well as the end game report given by the colonists.

The soundtrack was also really nice, fit the mood really well. Graphics were fine, the animations on the player were particularly nice.

If you're interested, my final setup was something like 3 CO2 generators, 3 H2O generators, like 10 Nitrogen generators and a whole bunch of trees and bushes, which got me a 85% score with a 100% environment strength.

Overall fun game, I can imagine it having a lot more replay value with the addition of different planets that have different conditions for terraforming, and more factors to take into account.

LD39 — Running out of Power

CHAINED by Mr. Chelnoque 2017-08-11T13:32:17Z

Fantastic. The solo mouse controls worked really well, it was great fun. It would have been nice to have been able to resize the screen or something, or maybe have markers indicating off screen enemies, as sometimes I felt like I was getting hit from enemies offscreen. Also, an ending would have been nice, but I guess it fits better with the mood that there isn't one. Managed to survive for 6 minutes.

The castle by Tero Pulkkinen 2017-08-03T02:40:53Z

I counted 10 sheep, is that the right answer? Also filling the buildings with voxels all the way through is cheating, there's no way you can count voxels that you cant see.

Stranded In Space by MAT4DOR 2017-08-01T04:32:35Z

Fun little strategy game. It might be a good idea to add a way to remove buildings, as it was I found that having the missile launcher was actually a disadvantage, because it meant I couldn't replace any buildings that were producing a surplus. I managed to escape in 2 minutes and 53 seconds.

Heat Death by Chao 2017-08-03T23:25:40Z

Thanks for the feedback all! @flyingmeta In hindsight, I probably should have had a 'hit' sound for the enemies to give a better idea of when you are doing damage. Unless you are actually just clicking on the wrong square, lasers will always do damage unless the shield pops up. Also melee should be working properly, probably just a feedback issue like you said.

@wolderado Each mod uses a set number of power bars, so the more you get the more components you can activate. The number of little blue bars on the right of the activate button tells you how many power bars it uses.

Heat Death by Chao 2017-08-07T07:06:23Z

@adrian0901 Thanks :)

@aterlamia There's a problem right now where you have to move into an empty tile to get out of the starting screen. Unfortunately, you might have started next to a wall, and be unable to move in certain directions. Try clicking around the screen instead of in one spot, and if that doesn't work just restart (you can press r to quick restart instead of opening and closing).

Heat Death by Chao 2017-08-08T10:46:42Z

@aterlamia Just uploaded a new version where you can click anywhere and it always clears the black screen. It's possible that you've generated completely surrounded by walls every single time, which should be extremely unlikely. This won't fix that, but you'll at least be able to see what the problem is. It's also possible that the way Linux handles stuff, the method of getting the random seed (from the clock) fails and gets stuck always spawning you surrounded by walls. In this case I'm not sure what I would do to fix it. Hopefully it's not that.

Anyway, new version can be downloaded from the same link, should appear as an updated package of the post release.

Heat Death by Chao 2017-08-09T10:27:31Z

@mathiouza I was hoping that the lack of explanation of the modules would add to the exploration and discovery aspect of the game, but yeah, it probably would have been a good idea to explain that a bit better. Just uploaded an image that describes all the different modules, as well as some basic strategy. Hopefully that makes the game more enjoyable for future players.

@aterlamia Unfortunately Linux is outside my specialty, so I'm not sure how to interpret that information. Thanks for the help bug-fixing anyway though, I appreciate it.

Breaker Breaker! by FlyingMeta 2017-08-02T10:42:45Z

Great entry, I really liked how repairing your engine also repaired your health a bit, giving you an incentive to use up your engine as fast as possible. The graphics and soundtrack were both really great, and suited the game perfectly. Some things that could be improved would be that there could be more feedback when your engine is broken, maybe the bar could like vibrate or something. There were a few times when I found myself trying to thrust, only to realize my engine was broken and I needed to repair it. I think there was some smoke and a sound that played, but for me that wasn't sufficient. Also, this is kind of nitpicky, but I couldn't find any reason to not be firing, so holding down left mouse button was just kind of a chore. Always firing with no player input could be an improvement. Other than those two points, it was good fun and as I've already mentioned the art style and sound effects really made it.

Sugar Rush ! by Behenate 2017-08-19T11:40:21Z

I think it just falls on the line of being more fun than frustrating. If you want to bring it over further I suggest making the jumping feel a little less floaty, and giving the spikes a more forgiving hitbox. I'm not sure exactly how you would fix the jumping, but I think if you make it so that pressing a movement arrow in mid air slows you down instead of turns you around, and therefore transferring your momentum to the other direction, that might make it a bit better.

Overall, great job given the time limit.

The Unhuman by wolderado 2017-08-05T03:35:33Z

Nice story telling, really enjoyed it.

Some things that were kind of frustrating though, it would have been nice if there was a way to speed up the text, as it was at times tedious to be waiting around for dialog to end so you could interact with stuff, when what you had to do was already immediately obvious. Blocking player input until the dialog ends was probably in general not a great idea. This was especially frustrating as I crashed on the second battery, so I had to wait through all the beginning dialog again.

Once I got past all this, it was a great experience that had some tough choices. These changes would be nice though, to make sure that more players manage to get to the ending and the interesting decisions without getting frustrated and quitting.

Power Dronomics by BrazMogu 2017-08-21T08:46:56Z

There was a bug where after the original battery is destroyed, the enemies didn't track any of the other ones and just stopped moving. Other than that though, neat concept executed pretty well, particularly liked the music.

Great to see another person using Löve.

PRAY FOR TESLA by slovnoslomo 2017-08-01T04:21:59Z

At first I thought it was just going to be a standard tower defense but with your towers only firing at certain times, but when I found out what the reflector does it was a really unique and interesting take on the tower defense genre. You might want to include a tutorial do describe what that does, just to push it along a bit. I was also impressed with the amount of content, I managed to get up to the shield enemies and I really wasn't expecting anything other than larger waves of the small kind, great work. I managed to get up to wave 28.

LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Inversiosynthesis by rojo 2017-12-26T07:35:33Z

Really neat idea for a puzzle game, kept me entertained till the end. With more mechanics, it could be a really great puzzler. Other than that, the art and music were all great. Well done!

Litter Burg by LandoSystems 2017-12-05T09:54:45Z

To be honest, I came for the dog. But the game actually turned out to be really good! Was a fun strategy while it lasted, the 20 turn limit didn't give a huge amount of time to experience the whole thing though. In the end I only ended up with 3 trucks. The presentation was overall really good, and it was fun to play. Great job!

SHURIKA! by disperse 2017-12-05T03:24:42Z

Nice concept! It would be really nice if there was a way to enable only one player though, trying to play while dragging around a useless unmoving character was a bit frustrating. Maybe also consider increasing the resolution, it was hard to keep track of the shurikens when they were flying around offscreen. Other than those small problems though, it was really neat!

Addtris+++ [Now with post Compo Update] by 5you 2017-12-05T04:20:11Z

The gameboy interface was amazing. Other than that, some pretty neat additions to the tetris formula. Definitely worth checking out.

ClickerVillage by Chao 2017-12-05T03:52:18Z

@machocodes You're better off advertising on the feed instead of here.

Dog-Off! by BrothersT 2017-12-05T05:53:30Z

Really fun game! I played around 6 or 7 times, and it really felt like I was improving each run through. In the end I managed to get 50. I have a feeling this would be really easy coop though, so I might come back later and try and break the leader board through that :) Overall, really well done, had a great time.

Sailor Wolf by Pashok 2017-12-05T09:04:54Z

The music fits really well, overall a great mood. I was having terrible anxiety over losing any of the cats, which is good! I found that sometimes it was impossible to drag cats onto the boat, probably just a hitbox issue or something. Also sometimes my cats would go flying off the raft for whatever reason. Other than those small bugs, it was a really great experience.

In Temperance Ruin by sparewizard 2017-12-24T10:24:31Z

Neat idea, but I think there's a key flaw in your mechanics that you might not have considered. If obtaining gold is bad, and the only benefit of killing monsters is to get gold, then surely the best strategy would be to max speed and run away from every battle. I thought the death mechanic was really well done though, much better than just having the player die. Other than that, the art was all on point and the sounds fit well. Well done!

Overkiller by SubWooferX3 2017-12-05T03:56:13Z

Really cool idea! Entertained me up until I got to the 13th wave. I thought you said infinite, but I only saw 12. Also, I don't think you convinced me that infinite gun barrels they seemed pretty good to me :) Overall really great work.

Zealot by fasterthanlime 2017-12-06T02:14:10Z

Really neat idea for a strategy game. A way to vs other people would be nice, but the AI was actually really good, especially considering that it was made in 72 hours. Other than that, the visuals were fantastic and the music fit perfectly. Great job!

Manage Your Stuff by Wobling 2017-12-05T09:29:07Z

Really enjoyable game. I really wasn't expecting there to be something like 10+ weapons when it started out, it's impressive that you managed to get that much content in in such a short time frame. More enemies would have been nice, but the only reason they seemed few was because there were so many enemy types.

No Move No Die by ZhangZhibin 2017-12-05T03:12:58Z

Fun puzzle game that kept me tided over till the end. Some of those levels were pretty tricky too, there was one which I could have sworn was impossible, until I beat it.

Daku by MachoCodes 2017-12-05T04:01:11Z

The models are all really high quality, and the mechanics seem interesting enough. The only problem was that there wasn't very much of it. Keep working and it should be something really fun to play.

Your Land by Mighty CheBo 2017-12-26T08:15:25Z

Fantastic use of mechanics. The moment I realized my actions carried over brought me to a crescendo of hope, only to be cast down once again into despair after I discovered my actions didn't actually do anything. Beautiful.

I'll make sure to check out some more of your stuff.

LD42 — Running out of space

Encumbered - Deckbuilding Inventory Action by impbox 2018-08-14T09:57:03Z

Man, this was great.

although it didn't fit the theme all that well, this kind of meta-inventory kind of thing always interests me, and it was really well implemented here.

Little design choices like the way items took damage from area attacks, and that you could pick up the coins before they turned into enemies, and that you could crush enemies with pushed items, really helped propel it from a reasonably good implementation of an idea, to a well polished and fun to play game.

The art was also phenomenal, good job with that.

Overall, a great entry.

Eblobla by Steing 2018-08-25T12:14:36Z

Pretty neat card game.

Having actions and cards be essentially the same thing was a cool concept, but I'm not sure if it really worked out. Research ended up just becoming an instant play all the time, which isn't very strategically interesting. Also, optical fiber completely broke the game. Once optical fiber was obtained it was pretty much over.

Was overall pretty cool though, always interesting card game mechanics in some new and interesting twist. Great job!

MNTL BLCKS by Steve Sparkes 2018-08-21T13:50:44Z

Man, that was some fantastic writing. The idea of having limited space in your brain was really cool, and fit the theme really well.

Lastly the art was fantastic and fit the alien vibe perfectly. I loved how the texturing for the humans was literally just a close up of skin.

Overall, great job!

Bag Man by GeorgeBroussard 2018-08-14T09:51:39Z

Cool idea, fit the theme really well. It did feel kind of contrived though that enemies also gave you gold when you hit them. I also feel like there needed to be more variations on the levels, as jumping over the same snail thing/bee dude got a bit repetitive after the 20th time. Other than that though it was pretty solid, well done!

Human Powered Rocket by EggshellDog 2018-08-14T09:46:17Z

Really cool idea, basing a game on a common physics error in 3D engines is novel to the point of absurdity. While the game did end up playing mostly as a space spamming simulator, the concept was brilliant and fit the theme perfectly. Nice job!

Take care of her by KiiroHanabi 2018-08-22T13:55:06Z

Incredible take on the theme. The writing was incredible, and the sound and art design backed it up perfectly. I always love it when an LD entry completely blows me away with its brilliance of theme and execution, and this game certainly has done that.

Fantastic work, can't wait to see what you guys come out with next.

One Billboard Outside Of Catville by Team Catwheel 2018-08-15T12:58:42Z

Really neat idea for the theme.

All the art and humor was spot on, and the combos added some depth to keep it engaging.

Would have been nice to have at least a little bit of a narrative wrapping to give some context and meaning to the actions of the player.

Invasion of The Jelly-Aliens by Cosdots_HM 2018-08-14T13:56:44Z

Ingenious use of a physics engine.

I really liked how the better weapons had larger cars attached, so it was harder to dodge. Made it feel like there was some element of choice. I personally enjoyed staying with the mini gun and maxing firerate. Other than that, really nice art and sound, overall a great entry.

One other thing though. Putting the player back at the start of the game when they die is a bold move for a game jam, where lots of people probably aren't going to have the patience to replay the entire thing when they die once.

Other than that though, great job!

Geh Aus Dem Weg!!! by Toster 2018-08-25T12:00:53Z

The Sand Will Bury Me by anacat 2018-08-16T10:28:48Z

Really nice atmosphere, the writing was fantastic.

I'm not gonna echo the complaints of the other people here, I'm sure you already know from them that restarting a level back and being unable to see in advance what walls were going to swap was frustrating. It was cool to see the different branching paths though, especially how they interacted with the poem, changing it slightly depending on your route. More stuff with that would have been cool.

Other than that, generally a solid entry. Well done!

JUNKYARD by NOTBADGUN 2018-08-15T13:11:54Z

I was going to comment that the game was too easy, but then once I got to the later levels I realized how wrong I was.

Would have been cool if there was some bonus for performing combos, or something to add a little more depth.

Overall though, it was a great take on the theme. Good job!

Airlock Gridlock by HYPRGLOO 2018-08-14T10:01:19Z

Cool idea, fit the theme very well.

The decision to let the player control when ships came to the station (since you could choose not to take them out of the transit lanes) kind if broke it a bit though, as the player could choose whether or not they were going to run out of space.

Other than that fairly minor design flaw though, the art and sound were both great, and it was overall a solid entry.

Good job!

LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

The Questiest Quest of the Intertwined Feast by Stending 2018-12-08T04:45:31Z

I haven't played DDR in a while so I was pretty rusty starting off, but I got the hang of it eventually. Luckily the AI was bad enough that it was hard to lose.

Great game, the humour was spot on and the sacrifice mecahnic was interesting enough. There were a few problems around the place, like I feel the first song didn't sync with the arrows that well, but it's a jam game so these kind of minor issues are expected.

Well done.

dropboy by torcado 2018-12-04T10:21:27Z

Really cool idea for a puzzle game. Fit well with the theme too. The puzzles got pretty gnarly later on as well. I didn't manage to finish it though, I dunno whether it was just my hardware but I was getting a memory leak on one of the levels, specifically the one you have shown in the post.

Ursa by Maksym 2018-12-08T04:26:13Z

Really nicely done. I don't really have that much to say, since everything fit together so nicely, I can't really single out any specific good or bad points.

Except for the music, the music was amazing. It almost sounds like it was ripped straight from a mother game.

Also, all the mechanics felt nice and smooth, except for the wall jumping. The ball to bear transition was really smooth and nice, and dashing was okay as just a forward movement, but the lack of any animations or anything for wall jumping just felt weird.

Other than those fairly small gripes though, it was a wonderful experience.

Serpent's Souls by impbox 2018-12-04T11:33:33Z

It's nice to see such a complex and deep experience, very ambitious for the time period. The mechanics were all really cool, though I feel there might have been some balancing issues. After I'd figured out what I was doing I pretty much never had any rebels or sickness. Maybe some kind of random event system would be nice, otherwise it's too easy to figure out a plan and stick to it unchangingly. At that point it becomes less about strategy and more about carrying out repetitive actions.

Once again though, the fact that you even got all these mechanics in in only 48 hours is amazing. Great job.

Detritus Walks by Chao 2018-12-04T09:45:40Z

@goldranger Thanks! It's weird that we happened to come up with similarish ideas, though yours was the first one I played. Hopefully it's not too much of a trend :P

Detritus Walks by Chao 2018-12-08T04:52:54Z

@catbutt Yeah, on hindsight we probably should have increased the base movement speed a bit. We were hoping that the movement would come naturally from the physics engine and the movement of the bodies, but this definitely sacrificed some smoothness of control, which is probably a sacrifice we shouldn't have been willing ot make.

@coleslaughter I'm having trouble thinking of any of of the levels that were beatable by flinging your body in a random direction and hoping. I would be interested in seeing how you played the game to have such an issue :). It's nice to know that there are ways of beating levels that I didn't foresee when designing them.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, your kind words are greatly appreciated.

Detritus Walks by Chao 2018-12-11T06:18:20Z

@peachtreeoath Oh my god you're right, it IS spidersman! Coding the characters and physics didn't actually take a huge amount of time. We spent pretty much the entirety of the first day getting them working completely, but we also had a bunch of interuptions that day so in total it probably took around 12 hours. That's to get the animation system, physics, and trash attaching to body system working. All the physics is just square on square collisions, so throwing together a system to manage that wasn't hard. The levels were small enough that we didn't have to fuck around with quad trees or anything to improve performance. Jumping is actually emergent from the physics system, and some black magic we put into the characters, so implementing that was literally just creating an animation. Also yeah, the movement speed probably should have been a tad faster, I was hoping that the levels would be small enough that redoing parts of them wouldn't be that huge of a chore.

@Goplite Radius of throw being distance from cursor is actually a really good idea, I can't believe we didn't think of that.

ETA: Estimated Time Of Arrival by mechanicallife 2018-12-07T13:28:44Z

At first I was like, pffft, this is just super hot, after seeing the time freeze when you moved.

Then I saw the mafia esque aesthetic and top down gameplay and I scoffed, knowing it was just hotline miami.

Then I saw the multiple timeline manipulation, and realised I was actually a fucking idiot. This was a wonderful mix of different mechanics that blend together to create something really awesome. That last level was also pretty challenging, it took me a while to figure out the correct route to actually complete the level in time.

Great job guys, it was a joy to play.

Ludum Dare Simulator by Hempuli 2018-12-08T05:59:57Z

Nice management game, it was fun trying to figure out the best positions for each piece. I was a little confused by what it meant by small clusters for objects though.

Love your other work by the way, can't wait for Baba is You release :)

A flight to the gallows by thomas-olsson 2018-12-12T10:25:50Z

no ending.png Why you gotta go do that.

You feed me this fantastic story, and then at the very last second, the ending was bugged.

Why man.

Other than that though, the game was super awesome. The mechanics fit really well with the theme, and there were lots of tiny details that really pulled the game together, like the little distortion shader that results from using the burner, and the fact that your balloon gets slightly bigger when you're moving fast.

Very nicely done.

Serial Dater by ColeSlaughter 2018-12-06T10:19:56Z

I loved the style. Getting it to work well with random generation must have taken ages, but you really pulled it off.

I really liked how your senses got worse as you used your power too, it was a neat way of making the game subtly harder as it continued without breaking the overall mood/theme of the game.

It would be cool if there was more deductive work that just waiting to get a bad indicator, but creating a system that intricate probably would have taken more time than you had. That guy who said he was going to make me pay though, and then had a 20 dollar note rolled up in his pocket, that guy was definitely a serial killer, but for some reason I lost points when I passed him :)

Great job!

Effigy by Sauski 2018-12-07T14:16:12Z

Cool mechanics. I liked the guys who ran in from the sides and set things on fire. It was nice that you'd implemented some stuff to make single player interesting, even though it was clearly designed for multiplayer.

GG Zaebos.

Limbs are Limited! by EggshellDog 2018-12-04T09:42:51Z

Cool idea executed really well. Pulling the limbs off the guy makes a really satisfying pop noise. And in the game! Overall though, the polish was really great, and it all felt really good. Great job!

Altruist Project by syverlauritz 2018-12-08T04:07:04Z

Incredible style and sound design, it looked and felt really good.

It felt kind of random to play though, like I was pretty much just waiting to lose. Unless, I did notice that the map was actually the same each time and not randomized, so I started to suspect that I was supposed to be memorizing the level and avoiding the traps. If that's what you were going for, that's pretty cool. It would have been nice to have a way to leave notes in rooms, and then have them viewable by the next group of sacrifices.

The Exchange by caeonosphere 2018-12-08T06:35:33Z

Did you actually write some text for every item with every exchange? That must have taken ages. It was cool though, and the attention to detail thus presented was impressive.

The whole tarot aesthetic with the cards was really awesome as well, definitely contributed to the overall magical theme.

I'd love to see a more extended version with a complete story, though I think you'd want to find a system other than writing a response for every item with every sacrifice.

Village of Sacrifice - LD43 by backurio 2018-12-07T12:38:03Z

nice.png That guy who got 118 days, that's some crazy shit.

Really nice management game though. It felt like how far you could go was capped by the villager spawn speed, and there was no way to increase that, but there has to be a cap somewhere I guess and that's as good a place to have it as any. It did mean that building more than four houses was a waste of resources though.

It also would have been nice if it was made apparent that food and wood were both needed to keep people alive. Food was pretty obvious, but towards the start all my guys were dying and I had no idea why, turns out it was because I needed wood.

Other than those fairly minor suggestions though, it was nice, well done.

For the Princess by maxll 2018-12-04T10:56:09Z

I can't believe there were cutscenes. As soon as I saw that I knew I was in for a great experience. The amount of polish is fantastic, and although the art style was simplistic, it was consistent and looked great.

The whole thing of sacrificing soldiers to get to the end of the level was pretty simple, but the way it was presented with the overly morbid death animations and stuff really pulled it together.

Great job!

LD45 — Start with nothing

CosmiCraft 🌟 by Random-storykeeper 2019-10-15T12:28:37Z

Really great rendition of the build a ship type game, given the time limit. Would have been cool to see some variation in the enemies, but other than that, great job.

Jesaouf VI by shubart 2019-10-15T11:59:40Z

Nice. That was great, though there were a couple frustrating parts around the place. The sliding after moving was particularly annoying, and made it pretty hard to control the character, if there was one thing that I would remove, it would be that. Otherwise, great job.

Dear Diary by Rodrigo Denúbila 2019-10-15T12:17:45Z

Nicely done. The voice acting was amazing, really good job. I also liked the subtle ways in which you hinted at what the player had to do, with the room you had to visit next lit up and the rest in darkness. The story was also pretty good, but I felt it was a little over dramatic. Great job!

Survivor Slots by PeachTreeOath 2019-10-15T12:53:50Z

Really cool take on survival games. I was probably most impressed with the amount of strategy you managed to fit into it in the time frame, the decision making between spinning again or forcing it was always a dilemma. I'd love to see this idea expanded further, there's still a lot of untapped potential here with the slots mechanics. Great job!

De-Desertification by Likirus 2019-10-15T13:12:00Z

farm.png That was awesome. Very ambitious for three days, but it actually felt complete and pretty polished as well. I loved the touches with the plastic water tank, and the message when you try to slaughter the animals. It really made the whole thing.

Great job.

Minds are Mine by EggshellDog 2019-10-08T12:09:56Z

Great idea delivered in an interesting way. Could definitely see this kind of thing being expanded into a larger experience. Great job!

SpaceCrafter by ProdigalSon 2019-10-15T13:31:11Z

Great puzzle game. To be honest though, there were some levels where you didn't actually start with nothing :) All the puzzles were designed really well though, and overall it was a great experience. Good job!

ΛLIENGUIST by Infraxion 2019-10-09T07:14:36Z

@eggshelldog It's hard to tell what you need to do without knowing where you're up to, but it might help to know that you don't need the red ball, and that the guy in the middle in the middle island has the fuel. Hope that helps!

ΛLIENGUIST by Infraxion 2019-10-10T10:10:22Z

@eggshelldog Yep, that's it. That part is pretty ambiguous, try thinking about it in terms of what kind of fuel do you want.

ΛLIENGUIST by Infraxion 2019-10-12T14:23:51Z

@eggshelldog Nice job! Less words would have been nice, we probably should have thought more about how we were going to cut down the word count earlier on. It's definitely a concept that we're still really interested in though, so we might end up expanding it later, taking all this stuff more into account. Thanks for the feedback!

No Kart by HALPCat 2019-10-15T13:47:32Z

All I can see is the track, and the flat, unmoving green line of the horizon, beckoning me forward. My feat carry me past each corner, cut closer than a hairs breadth, all to bring me that much further than the foes sneaking into my peripheral vision. Each revolution of the track brings me closer to my goal, yet pushes further from its completion, as the cart parts weigh down on my tiring feet. Finally, I cross the line for the last time, and there it is, the prize of my trials. The shining frame, the jet black wheels, all finding their consumation in the deafening roar of the engine. Adrenaline wracks my veins as I race around the track, yet my exhiliration comes at a price, swiftly dashing me against the wrecks of my opponents machines, leaving only the hard line of the horizon in our wake.

Great job haha :D

Warp Trash Flotilla by GoogleFrog 2019-10-22T11:03:00Z

Definitely the best rendition of the "build a ship from scrap" idea that I've played so far this LD, and probably in all the other LD's as well. The sheer scrappiness of the ships was amazing, I even found myself incorporating asteroids into my structure as well as pieces of hull. The number of pieces you guys managed to fit in was also really amazing, definitely didn't expect that much variety. The one thing I would have really liked, which I'd also really like from all the other similar games, is some way to get an image of your ship before you win. One of the coolest parts of any game like this is seeing the abomination that you've created, and if possible, sharing it with others, so being able to do that easily would be fantastic. Other than that, great job!

Color Swirl by sansman01 2019-10-08T12:20:07Z

That was actually really good. It's a simple idea, but fun, and implemented well. I'm impressed you guys managed to pull off such a simple premise in such an engaging way. Great job.

One thing I'd mention is that the game might be a little too punishing. Sending you back to the start of the level when you lose kind of sucks, check points would have been appreciated.

7 Days by AppoxGames 2019-10-15T11:45:53Z

Well, that was awesome. In some ways it was the epitome of the jam game, very simple concept, delivered in the most polished and impressive way possible. All the little details with the leaves falling off, and the flowers growing, and the way the tree kind of grew where you wanted but not really, it all pulled together really well. And it was so intuitive, from the sound design to the visual effects, it all pointed towards the same goal. Congrats.

LD46 — Keep it alive

Is it wrong to feed haterz to my plants? by khaotom 2020-04-29T13:02:16Z

That was really nice. The whole thing just fit together really well, It's kind of hard to put my fingure on what exactly it was, it just generally felt really good.

Great job.

Food Chuck by PeachTreeOath 2020-04-28T12:36:13Z

The road to hell is paved with shitty food.

Only complaint I could raise is that there may have been a few too many food options later on in the game. On the later levels I found myself doing a lot of searching for the right item, and not very much madly spamming the shoot key.

Great job.

Mind Defender by Laura del Pino 2020-04-29T12:33:53Z

Hey, come on, you know I can't control the information I consume. Why you gotta give me false hope like that.

Keep your brain alive is definitely one that I haven't seen yet, and a message that is all too relevant in our troubled times.

Defendeer by Deozaan 2020-05-01T12:43:29Z

Now that's what I call dedication to an aesthetic!

Only flaw is that there's no option to romance the deer.

Cub Valley by BinarySpark 2020-04-28T13:05:58Z

What is going on.

Half of the games I've played this jam have been super feature filled and complete, way more than I would have expected from other jams.

It's incredible that you managed to get this done in three days. The element combining mechanic, far from being just a cool gimmick, actually works really well, and the wide array of moves introduces some really strategic decisions to the game.

Amazing work.

The Most Simple Farm by RIBOUT Horace 2020-04-29T12:13:09Z

It almost seems like a waste to be making this much food just to feed a single chicken. I've got all this grain just kind of lying around on the ground, but my hen just can't eat it fast enough.

Tunnel Vision by Avi 2020-04-29T12:19:24Z

Nice math my dude.

I've always wondered why people didn't include fractal patterns and that kind of thing in more games, and now I'm just wondering more after seeing how sick it is when people do.

The only two complaints I could bring up is that the ship hitbox is finicky as hell, and it would have been nice to have a bit more of the map generate in front of you so you could see where you're going.

Other than that, great job.

Carry The Torch by Shadowmyst 2020-04-26T13:41:29Z

Cool idea, the keeping the torch alive idea is a great take on the theme. The mechanics were all cool enough, but I would have loved it if there was some more atmospherics around the dungeon environment. Things like footstep noises when you travel down a node, and the torch having some kind of flickering light, that kind of thing really nails the atmosphere down and draws in the player. I'd love to see a version with some more polish. Great work!

Don't taste the lava by mira 2020-04-26T14:01:13Z

Very Nice. I would have loved to be able to see the entire list of pieces when you start, there were some levels where I had to lose once to learn what pieces I was getting before I could beat it. Other than that though, really nice puzzle game.

Make it Count by Carson Bentley 2020-04-29T12:54:18Z

Really cool. It's really nice seeing the game of life rules used to make puzzle mechanics like this, and it actually works really well.

Nice job.

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Bust-a-Loop by PeachTreeOath 2020-10-13T11:19:12Z

Really cool idea, definitely an interpretation of the "loop" theme that I wasn't expecting. I don't really play fighting games, so it was pretty hard for me to pull off some of the puzzles, but it was fun experimenting with the different moves and seeing what worked. With a bit more of an engaging aesthetic, and maybe some sound effects, this idea could go really far.

LoopOS by Rustywolf 2020-10-17T09:07:42Z

Very nice, really interesting take on the loop theme. The puzzle unfolded really nicely, looking through all the different forums and sites to get information, always with the update time in the background. It all worked really well. I also really appreciated the way you designed the puzzles to not require repetition of steps, and be able to skip to the later parts of the puzzle once you know what to do so as to make the update loop less frustrating.

It would have been nice if the text editor was a little more feature complete, with a cursor for editing strings, and being able to press up to copy the last sent message. As someone who has a fair bit of experience using command line text editors, I found myself automatically trying to use this functionality a fair bit, and it was kind of jarring when it did nothing. Also, the twist was a little contrived, but that's probably just me.

Really well done, congrats.

Clockmaker by Tristan Mansfield 2020-10-13T11:07:27Z

Really nice puzzle game. I only managed to find one puzzle that seemed to have an unintended shortcut, which is pretty impressive considering they were all designed in such a short time frame. The art was also really nice, and the whole thing just shined with polish. Well done.

LD49 — Unstable

Criticality by 3mpty 2021-10-06T11:54:45Z

Man, that really was hours of gameplay. I love the way all the mechanics flow on relatively seamlessly from each other. To begin with it's just water is turned into steam, steam is turned into money, but they you learn more about the heat simulation and other ways of making steam, and it all becomes nice and complex.

As others have mentioned, it was a little hard to figure out to begin with, but once I got the hang of it it worked really well. It would have been nice to have some kind of loan mechanic as well, as sometimes I found myself waiting around for cash to build the next thing.

The core heat mechanics are really strong though, and there's definitely a lot more exploration you could do there. Heat pumps and shields could be cool off the top of my head.

Overall great job.

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Oops, I'm Sinking! by Criobite 2022-04-17T13:00:19Z

Interesting take on the theme. I would have loved to have some way of telling when I'm about to hit an iceberg, since it was impossible while bilging I mainly just sat below deck the entire time bucketing out water. Having to jump between bucketing and steering would have made for a much more interesting experience.

KEYMASHER ULTIMATE by Raivk 2022-04-17T12:45:49Z

Woah, this is a really good idea. I don't think I've ever seen the keyboard used like this before, and this is a really impressive amount of polish. It would have been cool to have the games last a little longer, it felt like my keys were breaking very shortly after the game started, and I would have enjoyed getting to play with a keyboard full of upgrades, but as it is it's already very fun. Great job!

LD51 — Every 10 seconds

The Ten Second Games by Chao 2022-10-08T01:23:27Z

Thank you for all the kind comments!

I'm especially glad to hear that at least some of you managed to figure out how to beat the final contestant, we were quite concerned whether that one was going to be intuitive enough.

@resacagames I am extremely impressed, that is not how you're supposed to win that one.

Exorcist Patrol by PeachTreeOath 2022-10-15T09:30:29Z

Wow, what a cool concept. Definitely was not expecting this to be heavily physics based, and it took me a while for it to finally sink in that it was. I managed to get pretty far just placing spells randomly in the timeline, and was a little confused where the challenge was, but once I found the physics bouncy combo stuff it was a blast trying to figure out what went well with what.

I played through twice as the first time I wasn't as aware of the combo system and my spell choices weren't that great, and it did feel a little easy on the second time through, definitely could have done with another healthier enemy type after the Red Panda.

Was a really cool take on the theme though, I feel like with a time centric theme such as this there'll be a lot of entries centering around timing and more frenetic gameplay, so it's great to see a more chill, strategic entry.

Great work!

Occurrence by Luka Roli 2022-10-15T10:15:48Z

What a delightfully raw experience, delivered in a completely uncompromising manner. Stayed around just long enough to not get too frustrating, and the bizarre interface really heightened the strange ending.

Great entry, was not expecting to see anything like this.

Regular Railway by Istaera 2022-10-04T22:47:53Z

Really nice puzzle game with an impressive number of levels. Not sure if I was playing it optimally, my rail engineer brain made me want to have all my tracks looping, and never to toggle the junctions, but it was fun trying laying out the tracks and thinking about how best to solve the levels.

One criticism I have is that the track placement was a little unforgiving. Since you couldn't delete rails that had trains on them, if you made a mistake at the front of your line and wait long enough for a train to reach up to it, it becomes impossible to amend. This made the levels very easy to just straight up lose, demanding a restart, and since some of them were quite long this became really frustrating.

Jump in the line by resacaGames 2022-10-17T10:30:00Z

I am low down, and I wonder at the regular curves that appear before me. My jumps are vast, and they carry me forward at such speeds that I hardly notice the gradual rise of the curves bringing me up into the sky. Before long there are many curves beneath me, but I sit upon the tallest, soaring through the air. My jumps know no bounds, and nothing can stop me in my path, but it is this very arrogance that brings me crashing down through the curves, so low that I can not even tell how far I have fallen. Gradually I rise up through the curves, making my way from one to the other until finally I am back on top, soaring through the air, soaring so high that my descent is never ending. And then the game ended.

This made me feel like I was inside a Phillip Glass song.

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Dig And Sweep by rayriver 2018-05-03T11:23:10Z

Really neat idea. Never seen someone do that with minesweeper before. After realizing there can never be bombs on gold, I managed to get 40 coins.

Spacewhale by Chao 2018-04-27T11:01:27Z

Thanks for the feedback all!

@RockhopperGames The post release version I just uploaded should fix the constant hydrogen hunt problem. Thanks for pointing it out!

@gilborn When we set the path length to be as long as it is, we were afraid that people wouldn't even be able to reach halfway. It's a great relief to know that you managed to get 3/4 of the way through. Thanks :)

@Wizcas The hydrogen issues should be fixed with the new version, if you want to come back and have a second go :). Detail and polish were aspects we tried to focus on this time around, I'm glad it had such an effect on you.

Forbidden Love by abhimonk 2018-04-27T12:26:20Z

I love it. Reminded me of frog fractions. It's been so long since something has reminded me of frog fractions.

Twine Walker by RockhopperGames 2018-04-27T12:12:39Z

Woah. This is amazing. I can't even begin to imagine what divine presence inspired you to execute such an incredible idea. And your writing was really good too, the whole standing on text thing would have been cool by itself, but I actually wanted to keep reading as well.

Just a few missed opportunities you could have capitalised on. -It would have been sick if there had of been some options placed in a hard to get to spot, perhaps even an impossible spot. -I was really expecting something interesting to happen when I fell off the edge of the world.

Other than that, amazing job. Fives all around.

Frogger: The Jigsaw by loveapplegames 2018-05-03T11:37:54Z

That was awesome. The jigsaw mechanics and the evasion mechanics actually work together really well. As the arena gets larger, so too does the number of enemies, but also the number of places you can place pieces decreases, so you have to pay more and more attention to the pieces you can place. This culminates in a mad rush at the end when you can place pieces very fast, but the screen is covered in enemies.

Overall, great job! Would love to see this idea of building the arena expanded upon further.

CITY^3 by Wizcas 2018-04-25T12:29:17Z

Fun game, and a very interesting take on the theme. I dunno how optimally I played, but I managed to get 53457 as my final score. Maybe consider adding some kind of cost to placing buildings, as currently the best strat seems to just be spam every possible building and worry about upgrades later. This seems to emphasize ability to quickly drag the buildings more than strategy. But hey, it's hard to tackle these kinds of design issues when you're madly trying to finish a project. I also really liked the way you incorporated the Asian setting into the art. It was subtle enough to not take attention away from the game play, but at the same time helped to back up the whole city building theme. I had a great time playing it and even went back for multiple tries to see if I could beat my scores. Well done!

Trebuchet Town by Nuthen 2018-05-08T10:58:41Z

Man. This actually worked really well.

I wouldn't have expected it, but city building actually fits fantastically with trebuchet sim. The tradeoff between large efficient buildings, that are easy to hit, and smaller buildings that don't make as much money was really interesting, and totally emergent just from the mechanics. It would have been nice to have an idea of what each building did though. Sometimes I would get really excited to build a big new structure, only to make myself bankrupt when it plonks down. When it landed on my money generating building it was fine, that's just a consequence of me being terrible at trebuchets, but when it's because I don't understand what the building is going to do it's a problem.

Other than that small suggestion though, everything was really well done. Great work!

Sword And Plow by frankiesmileshow 2018-05-01T11:15:14Z

The farming and RPG elements fit together quite nicely, though I would have liked the farming aspect to take more center stage, currently it serves as more of a tacked on feature rather than a core aspect of the game. The ability to use multiple weapons at the same time was cool, but it did mean that the combat devolved into click all the weapons later on. Other than that, really well done, I loved the idea behind it and the execution was spot on. I didn't manage to reach the end of the game, I got to the mountain area before being eaten by an ogre, but the length was really impressive.

Wild Cards by Adtberp 2018-04-29T09:52:14Z

Nice strategy game. Just a couple things that could possibly be improved for next time:

-I noticed that the animal gave food based on time rather than cards played, while everything else in the game ticked on cards (i.e. food was consumed when card played, energy etc.). This made it so that it was sometimes a good idea to just sit there doing nothing.

-On that note, having to wait for the animations to finish before you could play another card was a bit tedious. Maybe having some way of stacking multiple cards would be good.

-Being able to freely discard and redraw cards kind of removed the element of "taking the hand you are dealt", which made the whole card mechanic kind of redundant. If I can just discard cards until I get the one that I want, why not just be able to select which action I want to take instead of redrawing cards until I get it.

Other than those complaints though, the whole thing was well put together, especially for your first time working with 3D software. Well done!

Card Rush by EggshellDog 2018-04-24T11:49:27Z

Nice use of the theme, arena fighter card game is definately a combo I never would have thought of :). Adding rhythm game to that mix might have been pushing it a bit far, which is what I assume you were going for with the cooldowns. Overall it was fun though, there were many times when I was frantically searching for a card that would get me out of my current situation, so the intensity and skill were definitely there. As other have mentioned, more comprehensive sound design would have enhanced the experience, but this wasn't really a huge issue. Overall, great execution of a unique idea.

Also, you're the guy that made rabbit farmer? Now I know why you're on my follow list. That shit was awesome, I swear I played that one for like an hour.

Low stress language by Weirdybeardyman 2018-05-11T12:10:20Z

Man, this is a really good idea. I myself have explored the idea of using games to teach languages, and it's cool to see someone else looking at the same ideas. The only thing I would suggest is introducing some kind of randomness to the bombs, so that they aren't the same every time. As it stands, after you've learned the pattern of one bomb you can just memorize it and apply it to the others. Also, since learning languages takes a lot of repetition, having random content to supply that is likely a good idea either way. Anyway, this was really cool, I'd love to see you expand on it further.

Tactical Hydra by MacDoom 2018-04-29T10:49:23Z

I didn't notice any tactical hydras, all the ones I saw were just ball bustingly hard.

Really cool idea and a great execution. The controls were pretty weird to begin with, but I got used to them after not too long, and finally managed to figure out a relatively good strategy. That was when they started firing the purple homing bullets. I really liked all the little details that went into it, with the wrap around map and the little hourglass showing the turn, it all came together really well. The sound effect for beating the hydra was also appropriately ear drum exploding.

Overall, had a lot of fun with this one, great job!

I managed to beat easy.

I love the amount of metaphor going on with the platforming mechanics. The way certain choices were impossible to reach because of jump height, and the position of some choice "platforms" was all really well done. Would have been cool to have more challenging platforming parts to build on this, but realistically that probably wouldn't have been possible in the compo time frame. All in all, it was great fun to play. I would love to see it expanded upon.

I really liked the art style, and general aesthetic. The attention to detail with the witty descriptions of each of the pieces of furniture, as well as the many different available tracks was incredible. The puzzles were also really cool, at least the disco puzzle. The way they required you to be paying attention to every detail in the environment and constantly thinking outside the box reminded me more of adventure games than survival horror. The whole thing actually was very adventure game esque, but hey, who says that's a bad thing :) Well done!
