nina 2018-04-24 00:08

The dialog and effects are hilarious. 10/10 would date a mermaid again.

guin36 2018-04-24 02:29

This idea is genius! The writing is the real star of the show here. I love the absurdity and the constant joke setups into punchlines that are being created with each dialogue section. There is never a dull moment in the dating portion. My only gripe is that while the genre mesh works well for the initial shock, the dating part goes nuts but the fishing part remains stale. It didn't greatly detract from the game, but didn't add too much to it past the first section. The music was superb and the visuals were on point. I particularly liked the final section.

Overall just an amazing game. I loved it!

theras 2018-04-24 07:16

These are realy two incompatible genres. But i like what you have done with it!

yukey0 2018-04-24 13:01

LOL, not what I was expecting at all, quite innovative. The last was the unexpected best. Fireballs and Sexy Jutsu, flashbacks, eye technique, eye technique upgrade (sharingan - mangekyou sharingan) more flashback, I'm so dead XD Felt like the hook was Naruto trying to pick up girls and the last fish was the battle back and fort with Sasuke as in the series. Loved the references, can so relate to them back when I watching Naruto XD

It has replay value, I played it 3 times myself. Hooking up with someone in this case a fish and "literally" being a hook was a awesome idea. The music and graphics was nice. Loved it, was funny as well as fun, great job look forward to what is going to be made next time possibly if you guys join again.

chao 2018-04-27 12:26

I love it. Reminded me of frog fractions. It's been so long since something has reminded me of frog fractions.

corqi 2018-04-28 19:33

I can say only one thing: This game is god damn incredible! At first, when I've seen some fishing game, I didn't thought it might be so amazing! I'm waiting for steam release ;)

matt-pattabhi 2018-04-28 20:45

LOL tons of personality put into this masterpiece. Gj

kiirohanabi 2018-04-28 20:46

Really fun game! When you think you know what's gonna happen, the last date plot twist makes it better. Nice audio, good choice to put chill and fishing together, and graphics are fun too!

asbelgrants 2018-04-28 21:03

I just love it. :'D It was so fun, I truly enjoyed it. Congrats for your work, it is really nice. o/

macdoom 2018-04-28 21:15

HAHAHA OFF CHARTS!! Hilarious game! What a concept! Graphics could hace been a little more polished although I believe is part of the weird sense of humor. Audio was perfectly matched with the theme. Games as these should be considered art pieces.

deepterror 2018-04-28 21:19

For testers, please play until the end, it's so WTF - I loved your game !

Really the type of humor that I like. Ok graphics and sounds could be better, but the gameplay and story are so well done that I could only recommend to anyone that is interested in experimenting an unique gameplay expericence .

Keep doing fun for others !

ribout-horace 2018-04-30 00:45

I serously didn't see that coming.... Ok, maybe the graphism could be better but it also kind of part of the game and experience I think. In the other hand : everything work so much, it's really surprise to surprise, with a lot of humour and some plottwist following by another plotwist following by another plotwist, it really make the game lives !

jk5000 2018-04-30 19:46

This is a weird, but also a super funny game. The gameplay mechanics is nothing super special, but the story and humour is so good, you soon forget all about gameplay mechanics. This is overall a very well made and funny LD game. Well done.

frankiesmileshow 2018-05-02 04:36

*Hook Noises* Very good.

elmeri 2018-05-02 10:29

Wow, that was weird, and very fun ! Great job on the writing of these crazy discussions.

juzley 2018-05-02 20:10

Ok I wasn't expecting that! Not much going on in the fishing bit, but the dating bit is surprisingly funny, very enjoyable.

masterkrepta 2018-05-03 01:18

The dialog was the best part of this game. It was absolutely hilarious.

jojocanard 2018-05-04 19:03

Awesome, my favourite game so far when it comes to dialogue and humour. The art/fx are geat as well especially in the last part. And the game itself, even if it is simple, works very well.

ecmjohnson 2018-05-05 23:40

I thought that was great! The humour was [egg](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/motherducker)-cellent!

I did not expect anything in this game and that kept me guessing during the later segments. I could use more robust fishing mechanics, more bait, larger fish, male fish?

beamkirby 2018-05-06 00:42

I tell her that my favorite book is 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

This is how she responds:

20000leagues.png

Fun Fact: this book actually has a manga adaptation:

On a serious note, I didn't expect a dating sim to show up for whatever reason, so when the first date started, I just burst out laughing. This is honestly the funniest game I've played throughout this event. I hope you win first place for humor!

abhimonk 2018-05-06 02:41

Wow I still have to respond to a lot of comments. Thanks so much everyone for playing our game.

@deepterror, Thanks for the feedback on the graphics and sound. I agree I could have spent a little longer on the sound design (after writing the music, I sorta threw together the sfx haha). Glad you played to the end and enjoyed!

@ribout-horace Thanks for playing! I'm happy you liked the twists we threw at you.

@yukey0 Haha Great to see another Naruto fan here. Both @not-the-real-mark-zhang and I watch a decent amount of anime. A good chunk of the game's humor came from anime tropes, so I'm glad you liked that. Also, I'm super happy you enjoyed the game enough to play it more than once! We were afraid that a lot of the writing would go unused, since we tried to have a joke for each response choice, so most people would only hear 1/4 of the jokes. Thanks so much for playing!

@chao Man that's a game name I haven't heard in forever, but it feels pretty awesome to have reminded someone of the legendary Frog Fractions. Thanks for playing!

@jk5000 Thanks for playing, glad you enjoyed the dialogue/story! I agree, the gameplay mechanics honestly came out pretty boring. I would have loved to spice up the core gameplay a little, but my teammate and I ended up spending most of our time on the dating portion of the game. Thanks again!

@guin36 and @ecmjohnson thanks so much for playing! I know I sound like a broken record here, but I'm really glad you guys enjoyed the humor. I totally agree that the fishing part was pretty bland. I would have loved to implement some additional hazards / mechanics introduced with each fishing section (i.e things that knocked worms out of you, different types of bait, terrain being involved, etc), but time got pretty tight towards the end. If we ever return to this for a post-LD version, that's definitely where we'll start.

@beamkirby LOL I can't believe there was actually a manga version of 20k leagues under the sea. That was totally unintentional on our part haha. Thanks for playing, I'm really glad you found it funny! Thanks for wishing us 1st place!! (I hope we get up there too!)

(I hate to lump so many of you into the same response, I really should have responded to everyone sooner) @toryf @nina @theras @corqi @matt-pattabhi @kiirohanabi @asbelgrants @macdoom @frankiesmileshow @elmeri @masterkrepta @jojocanard - Thank you all for the kind words! I'm super happy you all enjoyed our game!

To everyone who played/commented, thank you so much! I know how cliched and repetitive it sounds, but holy crap you have no idea how happy I am that all of you played our game! I'm so ridiculously happy that so many of you enjoyed it. Even those who didn't enjoy it a ton, I'm thrilled that you even played our game. You're all the best!

ribout-horace 2018-05-06 19:04

you are exeprienced the goal of every game maker : to see people playing their game. Enjoy !

cristiano-m-garcia 2018-05-07 04:02

Good job! Cool game!

I left my rating of your game, if you can leave your feedback in our game, Witch's Escape.

I hope you continue with the project.

balance686 2018-05-08 04:40

lmao this game is awesome! Great original concept and use of the theme. I dig the pixel work and the audio is excellent. The game is hilarious (that ending was killer haha) and I had a great time playing. One of my fave games of the jam! Great job!

gaze-team 2018-05-08 20:14

The dating part is hilarious. Of course graphics could have been better and the fishing part more developped but overall you've created a really fun game, and an extremely well put dating sim parody. Congrats!

2022-09-21 09:13

Thank you. I really liked the study of the topic of dates)) I confess that this prompted me to search for a real person among singles hook up - https://www.nastyhookups.com/hookup.html I was active in my youth but gave it up after I found a girlfriend.. I don't even know why I didn't think of this option after the breakup.. Thanks for reminding me))
