A nice minimalist take on tower defense. A few sounds might have been good. I loved the graphics! :)

speedysloth99 2017-07-31 12:14

Pretty awesome game! Loved the mood, even without sound, and was simple enough to learn in a few seconds. Great job!

rafael-souza 2017-07-31 12:16

The art is simples, but just perfect for the game!

I just love the mechanics, right click to change que tower insted of select in a inventory save alot of time.

The game hit the theme very well, congratz!

Amazing, really!

thesand 2017-07-31 12:20

I really would love to see a full version of this game! It was fun! Thoo I couldn't figure out how the Absorber worked so I just placed a few down around the star ^^. but my highest record was around 300 ^^

lyon 2017-07-31 12:54

Love the art for this, the concept of the defense point pulsing energy out to the structures is a unique one, nice work!

aarneus 2017-07-31 13:11

Took me a while to figure out that the Absorber (the reflector thing?) didn't hurt the enemies but once I did it was a really cool mechanic!

corporatedinc 2017-07-31 14:02

Agree with all above, great work!

chao 2017-08-01 04:21

At first I thought it was just going to be a standard tower defense but with your towers only firing at certain times, but when I found out what the reflector does it was a really unique and interesting take on the tower defense genre. You might want to include a tutorial do describe what that does, just to push it along a bit. I was also impressed with the amount of content, I managed to get up to the shield enemies and I really wasn't expecting anything other than larger waves of the small kind, great work. I managed to get up to wave 28.

abductedplatypus 2017-08-03 14:04

This is pretty cool. Took a bit to figure it out, but afterwards I found it really addictive. The art is great and feels pretty polished! Great job!

brorawr 2017-08-03 14:10

Visually stunning and the concept feels new, fresh and challenging! This would feel so much better if it had audio and a soundtrack to add to the mood and atmosphere of the game. Other than that.. add a menu, slap on some difficulties and a global leaderboard. Oh and one more thing, I think this game could be really really fun if it was sped up a bit.. but that might just be me :)

filogc 2017-08-03 14:22

Playing this game was very frustrating for me since I could tell I would have loved it if it wasn't so damn hard. I don't know how the enemy horde escalates but probably starting with around 200 resources to construct the first structures could be a great improvement. The lack of resources to build at first made me use only turrets and even that can't stop the enemies. That's my impression after playing the game but maybe I'm just bad.

jotson 2017-08-03 15:34

Love love love the graphics. Very stylish and cool. Some awesome pew pew sounds would be nice. At first I thought this would be a standard tower defense but I really love the unique buildings and the energy mechanic for charging them. Awesome job.

jhandsy 2017-08-03 15:40

I thought this was really fun! The art was nice and consistent and the mechanics were compelling.

Some notes: I may have been more interesting to make the player have to release the tesla charge. Like, the generator charges up, indicates that it's done, then the player clicks on it to release it. That way you could save your charge for a big wave and you would have to actively pay attention in a way that wasn't just building things.

Also there is a bug (I think) where you can accidentally pick up buildings. I'm not entirely sure how to reproduce it, but I think it happened when I hit left click to often. It seemed like the buildings I picked up in this way stopped working.

Also, those demolishing ships were a little cruel.

kappa-b 2017-08-03 15:55

Would have loved some sounds to go with the great graphics. It a difficult game and I am still not sure what the all the building do especially the building that cost 35 to build. I got up to 15 waves. Great work

willdata 2017-08-03 16:00

I think the enemy waves start coming in too strong and it was pretty difficult to get my bearings. I enjoyed the aesthetic and concept though and did enjoy it once I gave it a few tries.

slovnoslomo 2017-08-03 17:24

Thank you all for the warm response! It's my second game on ludum so feedback is very important for me :)

Speaking of sound, I was really excited about doing some SFX and music for the game, but (as usual) it was to late.

And yea, now I understand that structure mechanics are not obvious, so I made a post update with theese rules!

@rafael-souza Thank you for mentioning that RMB-to-build feature. I'm personaly very like this interface finding and it's a pleasure that someone appreciated it :)

@jhandsy I really like the idea of releasing the charge! Definitely will test it.

@filogc Using only turrets wont work well with this power-up mechanics and I tried to deliever that idea from the start. Maybe thats why it feels so hardcore. Anyway, you are right in the way it needs a lot of balance tweaks and difficulty progression.

@brorawr Yea, after all feedback I want to rebalance it to be a little more fast paced. So player would build more structrures (that are less powerfull) and make more interesting choices. Oh, and I will add to your feature-list a randomly generated maps :)

machinetribe 2017-08-03 17:36

Reminds me of Asteroids with some updated graphics. Controls were a little frustrating but not enough to keep me from being able to play the game.

anthony-dunlap 2017-08-03 18:12

I love the minimalist graphics. I think it is an interesting and innovative idea for a tower defense game. I could never build enough reflectors.

pixzleone 2017-08-03 18:19

Cool game!

The increase in difficulty could use some work. In the beginning there were a bit too many enemies, and once you had gotten past that spike it got a bit too easy. I got to level 36 my first run when I understood what I was doing. Balancing is difficult though, and it's not that bad here. I can see that you said you want it to be more fast paced too, so that sounds good.

The idea is very cool, and I really like how you designed the buildings to make it possible for the player to really find fun combinations and structures. It felt very satisfying when your turrets all got powerupped and cleared a dangerously close wave.

Music and sound would be a nice thing to add, but it works pretty well without it. The graphics are very satisfying on their own, but sound would really make it feel "complete".

Apart from the difficulty and the lack of sound, this feels very polished. I hope you keep working on it!

Well done!

designernap 2017-08-03 19:48

This looks ace, lovely graphics and pace that suits the tone. great stuff.

yetman 2017-08-04 12:33

That game is awesome, still a tutorial is absolutely needed. Although you described each component, I still needed multiple trials to understand how to use each one of them. The turret is easy, but I didn't understand how to use the reflector and amplifier except after failing multiple times. The art style is great. Overall, after passing the learning barrier, the game becomes very addictive.

a333 2017-08-05 08:07

Outstanding concept backed up with a nice and clean design. Entry level is a bit high (which is usually bad for us LD folks), but if you choose to invest some time, it's satisfyingly rewarding to play.

I assume shielded ships require to be fired from behind, but it feels kind of overpowered right now. other than that - nothing bad to say.

loveapplegames 2017-08-05 17:40

Awesome, very original game. Graphics are great, very atmospheric. It took me a while to get the hang of the mechanics, but it was worth it! Right now I am stuck at the shielded enemies but I will play it some more.

There is a bug where you seem to pick up an item when trying to place a new one. It happens when you set its direction with the right mouse button. Then, when placing a new item of the same type, the old one "sticks" to your mouse. You can put it down again but it doesn't work as it should.

slovnoslomo 2017-08-05 18:31

@loveapplegames Thank you for the feedback and for the bugreport! Actually I think if I continue making this I would start from the scratch due to not perfect architectural decisions (jam-style) :)

simplepotential 2017-08-05 23:33

I nice take on tower defense. Seems like it might be a bit better if you started with a bit more power but otherwise I really enjoyed that!

zee 2017-08-06 00:15

I really liked the organic growth of the base! Since you'll have to buy a reflector for turrets further back, plus and an amplifier for ones even further out, you gain a nice natural progression for building the base.

I wish the amplifier effect was more noticeable visually. I had to play around with it a bit until I understood how it worked, since the power wave doesn't get stronger visually at all. I'd suggest adding a small pulse wave around the amplifier itself!

Other then that, most of the other comments covered what I'd say. Nice entry!

bemmu 2017-08-06 08:38

I like the art style and this fits the theme perfectly.

slovnoslomo 2017-08-06 10:05

@zee

Thank you for response!

I have tried a couple of different solutions of visuallising the Amplifier impact (masks, circle segments, shadows) but all of them did't worked very well. Probably doing something like a Reflector effect would be okay, thank you for the idea :)

theflyingkeyboard 2017-08-06 17:38

Really fun idea with simple, but amazing graphics. Reflector mechanics are just awesome. I think that adding some music and sounds would create amazing mood. Have not found any bugs while playing. I would like to see this game on Steam or somewhere else, because the concept of gameplay is very strong, and could be easilly ugraded to bigger game. Just amazing. One of the best games I've played so far during this game jam.

kade 2017-08-06 17:54

Great graphics, and cool take on the theme. I think this idea could go far if you just keep workin!

theonethatneverwas 2017-08-07 14:51

Very fun game, really interesting art style and mood. The gameplay is simple and easy to learn. Congratulations to the team.

askania-m 2017-08-07 23:21

I am curious what will happen next in the game. The concept has a big potencial!

deepnight 2017-08-11 17:30

One of my favorite entry for this LD! The mechanic is really clever and rewarding, and it makes me want to try many different setups and strategies. You have room for a really solid bigger gameplay here :)

sebbernery 2017-08-12 07:39

Very fun and polished tower defense. At first, I didn't understood how to build reflector / amplifier but I found the multiple right click trick.

bombjack 2017-08-17 19:30

this game looks amazing. The tesla waves are a great idea. I missed some sound

kerdelos 2017-08-17 20:03

At first i did not understand what the amplifier and the reflector could do and why i could not build anything. Then i read the rules more thouroughly and understood what was ground and what was not. I was still puzzled at what the reflector was doing. It seemed to just push away ennemies thanks to the wave. But then, I understand how everything actually works, how you amplify and rederect the energy, how the turrets gets their energy from the wave and I saw all the great potential this game has. In it's current form it's still super hard to pass the first waves of ennemies since everything is expensive but with a tad more polish and balancing it could be a great take on the tower defense genre. Amazing job !

ddrkirbyisq 2017-08-19 19:32

Very cool! But the shielded enemies destroying your structures and not allowing you to rebuild in those areas is way too brutal! =(

Visuals of the energy waves didn't always seem to match the amount of power that the turrets received -- it felt mostly like a process of trial and error to figure out how to efficiently power turrets. But this was fun!

shess 2017-08-20 20:20

Interesting gameplay, neat graphics, but maybe a bit too hard to get started. I take it that you were possibly after that clean, smooth feel from mobile apps, wordless and simplistic; still, I think this time the whole deal went too obscure. In game tutorial would be nice, of course.

I was getting a bit frustrated, not knowing why the game wouldn't let me place the turrets where I wanted them, and only *after that* I understood that pale purple shades in the background were actually obstacles. And even now, after wave 12, I'm *still* unsure how you should turn the amplifier and does its angle matter at all.

Well, enough of nitpicking. The game was good, and you should feel good. Congrats!

coauctor 2017-08-21 18:00

Slightly confusing at the start, but addictive and fun when you figure out the amplifying and enhancing stuff. Really cool idea with pulsation and harvesting the energy only by mouse hovering.

Thanks for the game! Psychodolphins ride on rainbows!
