LD39 — Running out of Power

Computer Crisis by PixelFormedStudios 2017-07-31T15:39:28Z

Really nice humor and music! Just had a grin on my face the whole time after the intro.

The only nitpick I could make is that the intro was just a tad too long compared to the amount of things to do on the desktop but even that's probably just my own impatience.

Mars Mystery by wolar 2017-08-02T19:05:33Z

Very nice atmosphere! I got lost once and I guess turned around bumping in the dark in the second level but didn't mind at all. I can see how some people would find that and the controls frustrating but I liked that it forced me to pay attention to the level layout and the sonar.

Also, is the 2003 maximum energy level a reference to something?

Grid Connect by Laurence Duffy 2017-08-02T19:52:37Z

Really cool concept! I also liked the clean graphical style.

It seems that the levels are too slow though unless I missed some way of speeding them up. It feels like you spend a lot of time just waiting for a node to appear. The appearing nodes also seem a bit too random.

The idea and execution is solid though, with a little balancing of the speeds and random placement I think it could be very addictive! I also appreciate the prompt bug fix and the versions for multiple platforms.

Wreckage by cogcomp 2017-08-02T20:05:30Z

Man, what a blast from the past. Brought me straight back my childhood in the 90's, looks like something that could have come straight from a Finnish shareware cd. Especially the backgrounds and the game over screen. I don't know if that was your intention, but you absolutely nailed it. And I mean that in the very best way possible!

Even the .dll problems remind me of that time :D Although for me it ran perfectly.

I also really appreciated the gamepad support and I liked the grappling hook once I got used to it. I guess the only real problems are the technical ones, but as I said, I didn't have any. Thanks for making this game!

Terminal Attraction by Aumbra 2017-08-02T19:23:41Z

That was incredibly hilarious! Extremely well done humor!

I did't mind the lack of consequences; the interactivity was good enough for me. Maybe some really basic checks in the textboxes where you can type things would be nice but even that I would consider a nice bonus than expected.

The only nitpicks I have that some of the text blocks were a bit hard to read in fullscreen with such a small font and long sentences and I would have liked an option not to have to choose every option in a conversation after the initial line.

Robots from 1991 by dminsky 2017-08-02T19:39:47Z

Love the concept, even though I also think it didn't fit the theme.

I found the music a little bit annoying when wandering around the level with the repetitiveness, but that's to be expected in a jam and other than that, it was very solid.

It's a shame I can't vote on the graphics. Is it because you used some premade assets? Because if not, you should definitely enable that, I think you'd get a very good grade!

Olafshot by SirOlaf 2017-08-02T18:53:58Z

I love the expression of the main character and the tiny arena!

Could have maybe used more feedback from hits and running out of energy, I didn't always know if I was doing or taking damage.

Fixing that and adding a little balancing would make this a pretty solid entry, especially considering the language and library.

PowerOS 1.0 by pauljtbennett 2017-07-31T12:51:20Z

I really liked the emails! Especially the spam :D And the humor and aesthetics in general were very well done.

I couldn't figure out how to attach files though and I guess the wallet is broken because it said I had 0 money when the end of game screen showed the correct earnings?

Powerless Miner by MajamiLTU 2017-07-31T12:00:33Z

I was also confused at first when the screen turned dark but when I realized playing in the dark was part of the game I really liked it! Makes you plan your steps like Aterlamia said.

Mana Manager by bebop 2017-07-31T11:44:15Z

I really like the sweatbead the mage gets when you're out of mana :D Perfectly encapsulates that "oh shit" - moment.

Powersnek by Aarneus 2017-07-31T12:17:54Z

I had planned for more levels or a random level generator but in the end I was just too physically tired to do more x.x

Thank you for the feedback! :)

Powersnek by Aarneus 2017-07-31T12:41:33Z

Anthony you have to eat the top planets first or they get too much defense (the red number). Also, you have to play the first level optimally or you won't have enough energy in the second one

Powersnek by Aarneus 2017-08-02T18:43:43Z

@hithh1k3r I am honored by your exhaustive comment. I wish I could heart it twice!

The numeric limits are definitely a questionable design choice. I thought it would limit my levels if I made the planet's defense numbers subtract before the energy was added, but looking back on it it actually would have allowed for more configurations of planets, not less.

It seems most people think that the lack of content is the main problem, which I also agree with. Efficient level design and story are my most major weaknesses right now. That's something I have to work on for next time. Maybe not use an unfamiliar language and get some proper basecode :D

PRAY FOR TESLA by slovnoslomo 2017-07-31T13:11:16Z

Took me a while to figure out that the Absorber (the reflector thing?) didn't hurt the enemies but once I did it was a really cool mechanic!

America 2018 by Antti Tiihonen 2017-12-03T20:47:14Z

I really love your graphical style! It achieves so much with so little and looks so darn stylish to boot.

The controls felt a little bit weird at times (a little like sliding but not really) but it didn't detract from the experience for me and almost contributed to the atmosphere a bit.

I'm gonna bookmark this so I can give you some good review scores when scoring unlocks

They learn young by MystiXGoDZ 2017-12-03T20:31:38Z

I guess I'm too early D: But in case I'm not you should know your itch.io link doesn't work (I guess the game is in draft mode on itch still?)

Thief by Dylan Ellis 2017-12-03T20:36:28Z

Nice little game! I was confused at first at the guards and thought their vision cone was their body but as soon as they start following you it became clear what they were :D
