really cool art you made there, fun to play too
Nice music and level design! Pretty fun to play. I feel that you could better improve the game by going with a different character mesh, rather than UE4's, and changing up the skybox to liven up the atmosphere and mood! Cool game in general.
BGM: Rusty Nail --X Japan The live version is much better, hope you enjoy it.
I love the title card for the game. I did find it hard to control the character because I instinctively thought I would be able to control him in the air better, this caused me a lot of deaths. I dont know if it was just me, but when I fell off I couldnt do anything else and had to restart the game.
Sorry for the bad control since I do this alone and spent too much time on design and gameplay system, when you go further you can control two characters with both hands and that feels nice I promise.
I will launch a enhanced version after some time (so busy these days)! Any problem and criticism is welcome! Thanks anyone who spend time experiencing and rating this game!
Hint: don't use acceleration all the time, you need to slow down for some pads
There was a text saying to render the lighting and when I died, the game didn't reload. I liked the intro, but the arrow wasn't aligned with the blocks. Except that good job!
This feels like a standard UE4 game. The standard UE4 controls is not really the best for this kind of game. The graphics and music is pretty good. Overall an okay jam game.
@franciszek-pyrc The lighting wasn't rendered because of failure to save a texture due to UE4 bug, I will try to fix it for the enhanced version, thx so much for your careful observation and I will alter the direction of the arrow
@jk5000 Actually I rewrite almost all of the default character controler blueprint and animation blueprint (both hands control two characters and emerging into the stand), it just seems the same as the topdown template. I work on it alone and have no time to build the character myself so I just added some floating balls to the stand.
The opening is awesome, I mean really.. but after you watch it for several times... In this kind of fast-paced (should be ?) runner game.. It become really annoying, I just want to play, I just want to release my standddddddddddddddddddddddd! Am I doing it wrong or I really need to be force to watch whole opening each time I restart?
@eggshelldog hhhhh sorry for the experience maybe you can try accelerating all the time except the three continuous pads (though I thought the first steps are pretty easy and the awakening stage can be reached by various methods) The design of the opening is intended to get a nice overall atmosphere for the gameplay, but many people complain about this and I admit this is a total failure, will cut this off in future version! Thx for playing the game
errr Yeah that's easy to get to the awakening stage, but that doesn't mean I don't die. even after I got the stand there are several times I "Q" to my stand and teleport to mid-air and I die. Then I need to wait again, You don't need to cut the opening, u know that's good, we know that's good, You just need to allow player to skip it. ....
@eggshelldog Oh that mis-teleport is caused by spawning offset for the stand so as to keep its location on the "ground" instead of having part of its body buried in the pad, it is really a hard choice so I suggest you point at the center of the pad but possibility still exists that you are launched into the air (no collision set for the stand so the problem cannot result from collision)
Concept is cool but as mentionned before the fact that the starting animation cannot be skipped prevented me from playing it more and that's a shame. You could play it in full the first time you launch a game and simply show the image when respawning :) Music goes well with the game. Controls at the beginning of the game feel a bit heavy but that makes things more challenging ! I quite like the "alone in a fragmented world" vibe !
@daitse Thx a lot for the comment, the opening setting has proved to be a total failure and I have learnt a lot from that!
@hiroboto don't beat yourself up too much man! The opening is really nice, you put a work in it and it's normal you want to show it to others :)
Very nice overall design and intro. 👍 I concur with the non-skippable intro part. I'd play more if I didn't have to wait that long between each run. The rules say that you _can_ fix "things that doesn't work right" post submission. I think an "esc to skip intro" option would slide without question. ;)
@lars-erik @daitse Oh I didn't notice that rule, think I will be able the change that this Sunday cuz I've got plennty of homework to do right now, thx a lot for reminding me that!
Solid game with really good music :D I found it a bit hard at the beginning so I had to restart a couple of times, but when I figured out how not to fall into the void, it was very entertaining! Good job!
@greendinogames Thx for playing and I am so sorry for the unpleasant experience! I will launch a new version which can skip the opening in several days, hope you can give it a second chance!
i really wanted to like this game a lot but the delay between replays was unbearable -- please change that -- nice game
@paulhocker Sorry for the bad experience, I will launch a new version several days later, after midterm exams,,, Thx for the comment!
@jk5000 @daitse @sirred @lars-erik @paulhocker @danny88881 @nachtwitch Guys I just finished my midterm and start to work on the new version, do you have any more suggestions, e.g. what kind of stand ability/machinery do you expect to see? I will take that into consideration!
Also, do you have the delay of the BGM which seems not matching the animation at the beginning? I sometimes have this issue when running out of UE4
@jk5000 @daitse @sirred @lars-erik @paulhocker @danny88881 @nachtwitch Guys new version launched already, check it out!
Ore wa Jojo! Sorry ^^" Good game, but the teleport makes it a bit too easy. I went lazy on parkour. Well done!
It took a few times for me to get to the end. I guess I should read, deceleration is really helpful. Great game, amazing music. I just want to jam out to it.
@solah muda muda muda muda muda!!!!wry!!!!!!!(you wont have stand ability if you choose Normal Start )
@tinykidtoo Thx a lot! Actually I am trying to emphasize the importance of decleration in this type of game but I failed to make a plenty of them because of limited time, maybe some changes in next version hhh
I really tried but couldn't get very far. I don't know how to get past the platform with the orange box around it. I think the UI might not be formatted properly on my widescreen monitor (3440x1440).
If you didn't produce the music during the jam, you should opt-out of the audio category. I do like the minimal aesthetic and palette, and the intro sets the tone well :)
@madbarron Oh I am so sorry about the UI on the widescreen because I used the anchor points to the four corners of the screen, you can run and jump to the orange box and use teleport to get past it and I am pretty sure it can be done on most standard size screens. I will make a version that is for wide screens, maybe in a week I guess! Thx for your playing the game and your detailed replies!!
Really nice game, intuitive controls, nice graphics and great audio! All of my problems with the game have already been shared above, with the restarting. But other than that, awesome job!
@bungalow Thx for playing the game! Have you tried to download the Evol_1.3 version where most of the problems are fixed?
I really love the opening scene, builds good atmosphere. I understand that people don't want to seen it everytime tough.
@redz0ner Thx a lot! Glad you like it!
The starting music is soooo cooool. Its a shame that if we quickstart we get this other not so cool music. Restarting takes aaaaaages even the quickstart. And telling me I was looking for something before I reach the end would have been helpfull! Plus I don't understand why you implemented platform mechanics, since the fastest and safest way to travel is by teleportation. Since the music is not made during you have to opt it out!
@cydouzo Sry I forgot to mention the music in game, I just mentioned it on Youtube, it was
Cool game! had fun playing it. The graphics and the song are both awsome. Sfx when falling, landing and running would help the game feel more polished. I would suggest a quick retry or skip the first section where you put the name of the game. It takes too long when i die (fall off) and start again. It gets annoying have to wait 1 minute between every run.
@mad-brokli Thx for playing! Have you tried download the Evol_1,3 and the QuickStart mode in it? In this mode I have those issues fixed with new BGM and UI added!
NO i have not!! Ill give them a try! thanks dude
@mad-brokli Hah hope you enjoy this update dude
Nice graphical design :D
Simple, but with a good mechanic and neat visuals. A little bit of air control would have been appreciated though. Good job!
@taldius Thx! Could you tell me what do you mean by air control in detail? that seems pretty interesting and maybe I will give it a try!
@hiroboto It's just the ability to control a little bit the characters while your jumping to help you land correctly on the platforms. Just like how you can control Mario when he's jumping to ajuste your trajectory.
@taldius oh i got it! I thought this is already done in this game but the effect is not obvious, I will try to add some effects or change the animations of the character! thx for your suggestion!
Nice game, finally something different from the others. Cool graphics, cool concept. As @taldius says, some control in mid-air would be nice.
@mikado Thx for the comment and the suggestion! I will try adding it tomorrow!
Air control would be really great in a game like this, I did really enjoy the endless runner interpretation here, and I think the base gameplay would be really fun if expanded upon. The intro was really cool the first time, and I thought it was a great touch, but it was a bit annoying to wait through before each replay. I also wish the controls were on screen a bit longer because by the time they pop up you've already got momentum going, so it's harder to stop to read them. Overall I appreciated the break with a different genre here compared to many of the other submissions, and did enjoy it quite a bit, nice work!
@brokenmirrormedia Thx for your comment and I guess you probably haven't tried the QuickStart mode in Evol_1.3, in which the intro and the tutorial is ignored! Hope you can get some surprise and rate again if possible hhhh
I tried it out, and I see what you mean, that's certainly an improvement! I'll adjust the ratings a bit for the abilities I didn't have a chance to unlock (that's pretty cool!) but I am not sure what the rules are for judging submissions based on features added after the deadline. Still, thanks for letting me know!
@brokenmirrormedia Thx for your feedback! Actually it is my first time attending LD and I am not sure about the rules, but it seems that plenty of submissions add some features after the deadline as reply to the players' feedback and I think this is surely a great mechanism (works like a beta) that distinguishes LD from other game jams.
I like some good platforming but the version I played was a bit lack luster. The jumping felt pretty awkward and no air control made it pretty frustrating. The other thing is that getting good at jumping becomes pretty useless because I can stand still and teleport myself around using the stand ability, but it's not as fun as jumping but certainly is the better option. The music wasn't bad, I just don't think it was super fitting for the game.
Not a bad first jam entry though!
@oxysoft Thx for comment, the quick mode is just for those who have tried the normal mode and just cannot get to the point to learn the ability (there are many, actually), the normal mode would surely provide a desired experience as planned where the character obtained and strengthened the ability through the adventure, I want to make a balance between "can pass by jump" blocks and "can only pass by teleport" and this is not done pretty well due to the limited time and myself being a bad jumper hhhh
Learning the skills felt pretty good, agree that having a reset back to the start of level rather than start of game would be nice. Looks very nice and the music fits it well.
@freedompotatoes Thx for your comment! Actually I am thinking about adding other abilities but it is hard to fit them with the power of this teleport ability, do you have some interesting ideas?
Note that your zip of the game cannot be extracted using a built-in Win 10 zip support (Error 0x80004005: Unspecified error - starting with files like GFSDK_Aftermath_Lib.x64.dll), so make sure that 7zip isn't a requirement :)
Overall this game makes a great impression and I liked the choice of music (though doesn't that disqualify you from the Audio rating?), but I must say that the learning curve makes the jumping a little bit too difficult for my taste. Also, it's kind of shame to have to constantly listen just to the beginning of the song :) By the way, I was playing this on a 1280x1024 resolution and let's just say, your UI really isn't optimized for that :) (And as a full-screen game you also gotta add some Exit button.) Good luck with post-LD efforts!
@scsc Ah thx so much for reminding this error! I will handle it asap. Also, I guess you are not playing Evol instead of Evol_1.3 in which version I fixed most of those bugs (in Evol_1.3 you can find a Quick Start mode with tutorials and opening animation skipped) I hope you can have a try at this version because I know the first version is quite annoying :hammer:
@hiroboto Yes I was playing the latest version (I only found one link), so I was not complaining about the long restart (though it still takes some time), only about the jumping difficulty, no Exit button, and those resolution issues, e.g.: evol.png
@scsc Oh I got it! I forgot to set the resolution while anchored those blocks to four corners :scream: Thx for your reply so much!
