I like this kind of games. But unfortunately there is some issues with the launch. screen0.jpg

yolziii 2019-10-07 22:51

HTML5 build is broken :( (Windows 10, Chrome)

starvingindie 2019-10-07 22:53

I think the build is broken unfortunately :(

valerie-van-haen 2019-10-07 23:00

Same here, doesn't work in HTLM :(

hydrate 2019-10-07 23:02

Ah sorry repairing now... Meanwhile please try the windows version if you are using windows

loadsofmana 2019-10-07 23:02

Wow, god is rude. I love the art style, the premise is interesting, my biggest complaint is that you lose instantly if you get hit with no money, feels unnecessary, specially when i still have goods i can sell.

hydrate 2019-10-07 23:06

@yolziii @tab1bit0 @starvingindie @valerie-van-haen Thanks for the feed back, I believe it has been repaired. Try the new link.

gabrielgamedev 2019-10-07 23:12

So is it a game about entrepreneurship? Losing currency as a life reminds me of Sonic. I liked the idea of the game but I think it gets a little repetitive with only two scenarios, having to keep going back and forth to increase money. The player can get stuck in the corners of the platform, you can easily solve this in Unity using a frictionless physics material. Good effort and good game! Keep it up

jake-marks 2019-10-07 23:14

How do you exit the shop?

sevidax 2019-10-07 23:16

@jake-marks you just press esc to exit the shop

hydrate 2019-10-07 23:20

@gabrielgamedev Many thanks for the comment! We have actually different scenes so you have to carry your goods to another shop in another map. Go go the end of the map you can find the portal.

nathan-wash 2019-10-07 23:21

Played the Windows build. Overall great game, the movement is pretty buggy which detracts a lot from a platformer. I think you shouldn't be able to die, but there should be a larger penalty for getting hit. As it is, if you have any amount of money you can pretty much run through the enemies because 2% isn't much of a hit. Artwork is super good. It's cool that the platformer mechanics change in each area.

hydrate 2019-10-07 23:27

@nathan-wash Thanks for the feed back! Sorry for the buggy movement. We will definitely consider your suggestion and make further improvements!

sevidax 2019-10-07 23:30

@nathan-wash wow thanks for the detailed comment! yeah exactly at the beginning you are much easier to die cause it's really easy to run out of coins. And I love ur advice on larger penalty for getting hit afterwards to increase the difficulty level . Thanks for the advice!

k0haku 2019-10-07 23:36

I played and liked it a lot. Especially that 'Aha' moment once you start to get going and know what the most efficient way of getting money is. That stopped very quickly though. I just started to ramp up to get MAD money at lightning speed and then it suddenly was over. There is definitely something here if you wanted to continue developing this.

I also like how you had the full package of main menu and ending going on. Seems very polished and focused on what you wanted to do.

Art and music is also very nice in my opinion. Can't forget that.

susumu-asaga 2019-10-08 00:13

Really fun and cute game, loved the art in this game. My only problem is that once I learned that the shops sell items at a diferent price I was only going back and forth between the sky shop and the florest shop, and them the game became a little stale, I would love to replay this game with some improvements in the plataforming mechanics and to the overall level design.

valerie-van-haen 2019-10-08 00:53

@hydrate Thank you for the fix! Everything works perfectly now :) I really loved the graphics, simple, fun gameplay and overall atmospehere. It's really impressive! I have only one tip- this game could use a button that let you skip the dialogue once you run out of the money and want to restart.

kiririn51 2019-10-08 03:26

Man, this game is cute. I love the concept. The platforming was a bit rough but I can see how much soul it was poured into every detail within the constraints of time. The art is fantastic, and the shop keeper reminds me of Dana from va11halla, so that's always a big plus.

sevidax 2019-10-08 11:02

@valerie-van-haen thanks for playing! And actually you could press esc to skip the beginning

daniiln 2019-10-08 12:02

Great cutscenes, but the rest is not very well done

ekaterina 2019-10-08 12:29

Very nice game! The girl turned out very well, so beautiful( ✧Д✧) Great job))

drixide 2019-10-08 12:30

Love the idea and the style!

sevidax 2019-10-08 14:26

@daniiln thank you for playing it! And if you have time could you please point out the shortcomings specifically? We'll try to improve them later on! thank you for the patience!

sevidax 2019-10-08 14:27

@ekaterina hahahah really glad you love our little Lucifer! all the credits go to @rabichora who did all the drawing

daniiln 2019-10-08 16:40

@sevidax You have some platforms that are too high and the character does not jump to them. The character sticks to the colliders on the platforms. Also, the character jumps too much, and sometimes bounces to the top of the map when it touches enemies. At the levels, the borders are behind the camera and, in general, the problem is in level design. Your game focuses on the economy, but it is simple and boring, and sometimes illogical, for example, why is fish in the sea more expensive than fish in the sky, if there are more in the sea? Sorry for my English)

daniiln 2019-10-08 16:44

@sevidax Perhaps you lack knowledge in game design, level design and in Unity. I am sure that if you study these things better, you will be able to make your game good. I wish you good luck in self-development and development of your games;)

cmcoto 2019-10-08 20:20

Loved the Art! Cute game over all! The bunnies in the clouds were difficult to spot! The flow over the platforms was a bit difficult, as you may get stuck on the side of the platforms. I think you have a pretty good base for a full game.

toge 2019-10-08 21:56

Eye-catching illustrations, definitely made my day! Tried my best to make profit but did some risky business and failed at the end. I blame Unity for everything (mainly because I got stuck everywhere). Definitely talent behind those pictures, great job with the game!

hydrate 2019-10-08 22:04

@daniiln I'm the bad guy to blame to 😅. It's our first time develop a game sure we have a lot more to learn. Thanks for your feedback! We are optimizing the control system / platform design and to release a bug fix version soon.

hydrate 2019-10-08 22:14

@cmcoto @toge Many thanks for the feed back! Glad you like the art works!

bryvox 2019-10-09 01:25

The art style is fantastic and I also really like the music, sound effects and concept. Great use of the theme too!

sbackus 2019-10-09 01:29

I wish there was a way to skip the intro scenes. The art and story are cute but I don't need the whole thing twice.

hydrate 2019-10-09 01:36

@sbackus sorry I shoud put a hint, it can be skipped by pressing the escape button

jake-marks 2019-10-09 08:11

Here’s a video of a playthrough of the game. Despite some initial hiccups I got it working and enjoyed the art and platforming parts very much! Wish you could skip the intro cutscene though in case you die!

https://www.twitch.tv/videos/492111234

hydrate 2019-10-09 08:55

@jake-marks Thanks for playing our games! Actually the price of the shop will be random everytime when you enter another shop. And the intro animation can be skipped by pressing escape button. I'll try to add another key trigger to get out of shop/ skip the animation. Many thanks for playing!

rayne 2019-10-09 17:43

The drawings are amazing! Cool, refreshing game. I really enjoyed it, the character was charismatic and well designed. Congratulations on the submission!

paulhocker 2019-10-10 01:37

really good game -- loved the artwork and the music was superb! thanks for making it

sevidax 2019-10-10 12:33

@rayne @paulhocker thank you so much for playing it.really glad you like it!

rabichora 2019-10-10 12:47

@jake-marks thank you so much for playing and recording this video!!!!

rabichora 2019-10-10 14:04

@rayne thank you so much for liking the art!!! I'm really pleased you liked it!! XD

inferture 2019-10-10 15:29

Loved the artstyle and the overall aesthetic, it was very cute, and the mechanic of going back and forth between shops hoping that the item you bought had gained value was surprisingly fun ^^

adrien-dittrick 2019-10-10 16:09

Gameplay is kind of broken but the art style is really cute :3

entropy 2019-10-10 17:29

The art style (both audio and visuals) is great :) The game in itslef is a bit buggy, and I found myslef stuck at the edge of a platform a lot of times. Other than that, the feel of the game is good, cut and all. Kuddos to the art team.

lukein 2019-10-10 17:57

This game is pretty! And the "economical" health bar is a nice concept. You could stimulate the platforming a little by making coins drop and disappear a few seconds later, like rings in Sonic games.

alphish 2019-10-10 20:40

So, I was brought in by the blog post I saw a while ago on the main page. Back then I couldn't really check the game out, so I really wish that there was some kind of "Play later" feature, much like "Watch later" on YouTube. But enough of these technicalities. For the record, I played the 1.0.0 version, as it's the one I believe to be

When it comes to the game itself, the blog post promised a cutesy graphics and it delivered. The platforming mechanics felt sloppy, with the character sometimes hanging on the edge of platform, seemingly floating in the air; I don't know if it was some ledge-grabbing mechanic, or maybe physics of non-rectangular platforming*. Also, the movement above water felt too fast; that's why I preferred to stay around the water area in general.

I don't think the economy aspect meshes well with platforming gameplay. In the end, it boils down to moving between shops, repeatedly overcoming same platforming challenges and looking to buy things low and sell high. I think I'd have preferred if the game either focused entirely on platforming coin-collecting or the business one.

The general audiovisual presentation works from the design perspective, though when it comes to the gameplay I still resent that ninja rabbit hopping around that bright cloud background. I mean, I know rabbits adapt their coats to camouflage themselves, but still!

When it comes to the story, it has an alright premise, but I'm not the fan of the ending. It seems like this kind of "subverting expectations" when it doesn't so much surprise (I mean, these shaggy dog stories aren't that uncommon) but rather disappoint. Like, it replaces generic but satisfying conclusion of reaching the goal with aan un-resolution where God doesn't care and that's it. Now if you followed through and made Lucifer turn into a supervillain as a result, that'd have been much more interesting, because rather than silently accepting God's indifference, Lucifer would take action instead. As it is now, the ending feels just sad and pathetic...

Overall, quite a pretty game, but could realy use some polish with mechanics (seems to be somewhat addressed in 1.1, though I didn't check it out) and more satisfying conclusion.

*Rectangular platforming being the kind of mechanic where each platform, enemy and the player have plain rectangular collision mask.

hydrate 2019-10-10 21:17

@alphish We greatly appreciate your playing and such a detailed review!

The motion system is a bit buggy. We were focusing on getting the other part of the system work but not thoroughly tested it because of the short time. That's mostly my fault. It's my first time to program the character motion system of a unity game, and I wrote the system while watching the tutorials. I mistakenly use a polygon collider on the character, so the chance to hang on the side of the platform is a bug. As for the ninja rabbit, it was because we are running out of the time. I just placed several rabbits on the platform but didn't have time to check it. Sorry for your bad experience, I'll surely improve it in the following update fixes and for sure in our next game.

As for the platforming game design, initially, we have a bigger ambition. We would like to have a combat system so the player can somehow fight the shop keeper and knock the price down (or up). Also, we want to have the event system that gives you hint about the trend of the prices. We believe this can make the game much more fun and would then be suitable as a platformer. However, due to the shortage of time, we have to make some compromises to ensure the integrity of the game.

As for the story ending, it is not our intention to show that god is a rude or cold blood person, but want to add a taste of humor. In our original plan, we would like to give the player two options. You can either immediately transfer the money to god, which it turns out to be a telephone scandal, and it was not god on the other side. While you can also try to confirm the identity of the god but then you have a risk to anger the god, but eventually turned out to be fine. Because of the time limit, we couldn't fully implement it.

We are very grateful for your detailed review, and thanks again for giving such useful feedback! We will release another bugfix soon. Hopefully, we will be able to fix these problems!

rabichora 2019-10-10 21:36

@kiririn51 yassssssss!!!!!!! I love Va11 Hall-a!!!!!!!! Boss Dana was soooo adorable! !!!! ΦωΦ

surprising to find va11 players here loll, great game,I’m waiting for the new one haha XD

noobdev 2019-10-10 22:14

The art is really cute and like the mechanics of adding buying and selling items to a platformer. Sometimes the character gets stuck with the edge of platforms and in the water level I guess there are phantom collider, cause I would get stuck even though there weren't any thing on my way. Overall it's a nice platformer and I am saying it again... I love the art😁😁

nightvision65 2019-10-11 03:09

The art is really cute! Hope there were more content in gameplay because all I can do during the game is moving between two shops, buying and selling things XD. It's confusing that when I hold "space" the character will jump REALLY high. Don't know if it's a bug or just settings.

fireslash 2019-10-11 06:25

I absolutely adore the art!

Gameplay wise, I think the platforming itself is mostly fine for this type of game; but the enemies ended up being a bit of a sticking point for me. The rabbits like to blend in with the background, and the pathing results in forcing the player to wait a lot. Typically this would be solved by giving the player an attack of some kind (see: sonic, mario).

The shop was a nice tough but I couldn't find any way to determine what items did without just using them.

Overall a pretty fun entry!

cybersoftuk 2019-10-11 06:57

wow, the artwork is amazing!, really nice overall aesthetics, the sound was good too, i didn't understand the buying/selling part until later but a really cool idea, i could see this as a bigger longer game. I didn't expect cute bunnies to steal my coins (cheeky!). The underwater world was cool too but i wanted to be able to swim like mario as i suck at jumping and landing with a keyboard. Great game really enjoyed it! well done!

ohsqueezy 2019-10-11 07:42

the music is epic it absolutely slays and I am all about the basics regarding platforming and coins I just would like more platforming and less looping through the same settings doing business I guess it's a little too close to real life

porocyonak 2019-10-11 08:04

really love the intro

dimesto52 2019-10-11 10:09

simple but well done

selkkie 2019-10-11 10:10

This was a cute little game! The art was spectacular and the premise was fun. It wasn't immediately clear what was going on (assuming I'm right, I still can't be sure) in that the items have no function other than to be traded, but that idea is simple yet good. I just wish it were more clear, given that the item slots and shops are standards in most games, and it's hard to break what their existence communicates to players. If the items *are* useable and I'm just an idiot(peeking at the above comments this might be the case), the shopkeeper really ought to tell me what they do and how to use them.

The intro was also a bit confusing, although it's minor- presented with only a skip button I wasn't sure if it was going to keep playing or if I needed to hit the skip button to move to the next piece of text. I think adding a second button for fast readers would be a good idea. Also, the white text was very difficult to read over the bright complicated (gorgeous) backgrounds, I'd recommend some sort of textbox.

I see others have complained about the rabbits, so I'll just add that my biggest gripe with them was transitioning between rooms. Whenever I ran back to the forest from the underwater room, I immediately stepped on a rabbit and got punished, which was a bit annoying.

Overall though the game looks really nice, good work! The character was very cute, and I'd love to see a post-jam version!

avzgui 2019-10-12 11:59

A great work on graphics. I really like the idea to trade stuff between different world.

bilalch213 2019-10-12 13:27

Nice game! Art and music is really good. These are the kind of games which could have benefited a lot from parallax effect. Anyway, I liked the whole idea but it could have been more expanded and polished. The movement seems buggy. Good entry!

drevilbrain 2019-10-13 07:43

I like your non-Cirno, non-Rainbow Dash, non-Stocking OC

pl4typus 2019-10-13 09:30

Felt like a fine capitalist. Understood why you named you chara Lucifer then.

hydrate 2019-10-13 09:31

@selkkie Many thanks for your review! That is right those items are goods that can only be trade between different shops. It's a very nice idea to add a speed up button! Thanks for the feedback about the rabbits for scene transition, I'll put them somewhere else. Thanks again for the detailed review! Glad you like our art works!

hydrate 2019-10-13 09:36

@pl4typus We had a bigger ambition in the begining which would suit name Lucifer perfectly. But in the end we can't implement them all, so we decided to leave the name as it is, and hopfully to creat a taste of humor from the huge contrast (Between the cute character and its name). Also another reason is we don't have time to draw a new picture and replace the name in the end Lol.

chivatateo 2019-10-13 14:26

Very beautiful game, but nothing changes with more and more coins, except... coins number? Or I lost smth? May be add a little difficult scaling with coin number? For example after 300 coins change levels on new. Visual same, but smth changes.

Intro great, but a little hard to read, because white text and light background. In HTML version if you press escape - you exit shop AND fullscreen. Press Enter work, but not really comfortable. May be just add button Exit on shop screen?

adhesion 2019-10-13 20:19

Solid concept, graphics and use of the theme. Once I figured out the gameplay it seemed fairly basic though. Could have used a bit more of a tutorial, it took me a while to figure out that the "submit button" was enter. The platforming felt a bit weird at times too - when jumping off of a moving platform sometimes you get stuck in the air in weird way. As other people said getting a game over when getting hit with 0 coins was pretty unexpected and frustrating. Still a good concept though, keep it up!

jimbly 2019-10-15 02:31

It took me quite a while to figure out what the "submit button" was. Pressing Escape didn't exit the shop, but instead exits fullscreen :( (then exits the shop on a separate button press) - I'd recommend another key for that! Well, Space seemed to exit the shop once, but then after that (or perhaps after I tried to run off of the left of the main screen), space stopped working for jumping, until I got damaged, and then it started working again. I made it up to about 240 money when I suddenly got hit when none was liquid and the game ended :(.

Really like the main character art, the bunnies could have used a little more polish, I think =). Sound was good, not annoying and fit well =).

euler-moises 2019-10-15 02:48

I loved the art of the cutscenes and the main character, but it contrasts with the rest. The animals and scenery look like it was made by someone else. It is not ugly, but the difference is very discrepant. The idea of "business" got interesting. It took me a while to understand what I had to do, but this is called "intellectual capacity." Music is simple and does its job well. What I liked the most was turning Lucifer into a woman. Even more such a beautiful woman! Congratulations!

This is our game: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/45/soundscapes

acronaut 2019-10-15 21:15

Cute Character design. Took me a while to realize the whole purpose of the shop's items was to really buy/sell.. Suggestion: Since the coins do drop, perhaps have a moment where she could last-second regain a single coin (much like Sonic the Hedgehog's ring redemption).

ashtrail 2019-10-16 08:07

The graphics are nice, especially the main character, although at times they seem to lack a bit of cohesiveness (the player has an outline but the animals and the platforms don’t for instance). Audio-wise the music is good but the sfx is a bit jarring.

As pointed out in the comments before me the input layout is a bit confusing.

Overall I think this games falls in a common jam pitfall, which is being too long and too punishing. Most people rating jam games are doing several in a row which doesn’t necessarily make them the most patient, especially when the game feels frustrating. After playing a few minutes of the game you realize it’s going to take a while to get to a 1000 coins. Moreover when after buying a lot of items in order not to lose money when hit by mobs, you get killed precisely because you didn’t have money, you really don’t feel like retrying.

My general advice for jam games would be to try to make short games that don’t throw up too much roadblocks to the players trying to finish them. Making challenging games is risky, particularly when they depend on tight controls, a feat pretty hard to nail in the span of two/three days.

I hope it doesn’t come off as me trying to bash the game, I just believe that honest feedback and pointers on how to potentially improve are the most useful in the long run. It’s still a nice game, and you can be proud of yourselves for finishing it !

local-minimum 2019-10-19 12:26

I played the v1.0 version as the others seemed to have too much fixes beyond what the rules allows and most of my concerns seems to have been addressed. I did however only discover two levels, so if there were more, it might need to be made clearer in the game how to find them. As the character was quite hard to control in the first version and the collision with enemy a bit too strict and sudden, I almost ran out of coins completely and also on my second attempt I felt like not re-spawning the coins made it feel like a chore to run back and forth between the shops, so I would suggest having coins come back at some rate so there's still some fun and reward in traveling the distance between the shops. It was a cute game though!

sprotex 2019-10-19 20:09

Okay, a lot of people here are saying that the graphics style is super adorable, that the movement is too weird and that walking back and forth while exchanging goods is tedious. While I agree on all of these statements, I think a lot could be forgiven to this entry, since it's a LD submission. Sure, the movement could be refined, you can do that post jam (AKA now), if you want. I didn't have too much trouble moving around.

Other thing was that there wasn't enough meaningful content. Moving back and forth is a bit worse than the movement mechanic itself.

I didn't have a problem with dying on low coins, not because I didn't collide with enemies, but because I planned ahead and didn't buy all the things I could.

Oh yeah, and God is such a mean dude. :imp:

Great game, keep it up.

hydrate 2019-10-19 23:18

@chivatateo very good suggestion! Thanks for the feedback! We will add it to the latter post jam updates once we have time.

hydrate 2019-10-19 23:21

@jimbly Thanks for playing our game and very detailed feedback! Sorry to hear your experience with the bug. We recommend to use the cheat code to have a look at the (maybe) good end. We will definatly fix these bugs in the next post jam updates.

hydrate 2019-10-19 23:26

@euler-moises Thanks for playing our games! Yes due to the time limit we couldn't draw every single pieces by our selves, some of the animal figures are from some opensource database. We hope next time we can properly plan the time and make more original art works! Also we rated your game as well. Thanks again!

hydrate 2019-10-19 23:28

@acronaut Thanks for the suggestion, very interesting idea! In fact we were planing to let her drop the items as well and will be able to recollect some of them, but due to the time limit we couldn't finish it. Thanks for playing our game!

hydrate 2019-10-19 23:32

@ashtrail Thanks very much for the detailed feedback! Yes the game seems quite long, we never considered the patience for our player at the begining. We noticed this before we publish it, so we released the cheat code in case you want to see the end but couldn't finish it. That's a very nice and useful suggestion! We do appretiate your comment!

hydrate 2019-10-19 23:39

@local-minimum Thanks for playing our game! We do recieved quite a lot of feedbacks for the character control, we will definately improve it next time! The feature to regain some of the coin was planned but couldn't be implemented due to the time limit. We will try to plan our schedule more carefully next time to improve the development efficiency. Thanks for your feedback!

hydrate 2019-10-19 23:40

@sprotex Thanks for the feedback! We will make more fixes in the further post-jam releases definitely! Thanks for playing our game!

gamefive 2019-10-21 03:03

How do I get into the store? The female character is pretty. Is there more level?

anion-z 2019-10-22 23:22

Loved all the drawings, its hard to avoid monsters because camera view is narrow. There are couple of bugs to, when you cant jump until you get hit again, and when you jump off the platform, force is added to the player so it kinda lags in backwards direction. Ithink art is outstanding and thats the best part of the game

brokenmirrormedia 2019-10-26 03:38

The visuals were quite nice, and the game wasn't bad either. The relaxing music and simple mechanics worked well together. I will say that the running back and forth between shops does get a bit tedious, but isn't terrible. One thing that did bug me was that there is a rabbit on the right side of the grass world right near where you teleport in from the underwater area that I almost always ran into. I also wish there was some way to predict which stores want which items, because it seemed random to me, so some kind of strategy there would be cool (though I get that would basically make the game as it is now very easy). Good submission overall!
