I love this game. The rhythm matching was challenging but not impossible and the music was catchy without being hard to anticipate. Great work!

I think my computer has a notable amount of sound delay so it definitely took some getting used to the timing, but the music was quite good and the words brought a little humour in, so I really enjoyed getting wrecked by this typing game.

Fun concept, but I couldn't seem to consistently get the rhythm. I don't know if it was an issue with my computer or if it was just really precise, but I consistently stayed the same in relation to the beat and inconsistently got credit.

Nice concept. My ear (or my foot) doesn't seem to work :D

space-man 2018-04-26 04:42

Thanks for the comments! I made a slight increase to the allowed precision, hopefully that will help make the game more playable for anyone with audio/video/input delay. I'll think about providing a better solution with adjustable delays in a post-jam version, but no guarantees.

lol this definitely challenged my ability to type by memory. I think this might be a good game to teach kids to type?

I also made a rhythm game and coding for audio/input delay was tough! Anyway, just wanted to say I played and really enjoyed your game. It may be the first time I've actually enjoyed typing.

Great idea!

To add more to the game, I would add a musical instrument sound to a keystroke (drum / bass / or something). So you are not just typing, but also playing a music (percussion), one note per keystroke.

Also adding an option to finetune a soundtrack beat/keystroke delay is a must for a such game: it seams that I do have constant syncopation (a disturbance or interruption of the regular flow of rhythm) on some tracks.

In general: well done! you have managed to make a nice product!

Wow, the fact that this is the second rhythm-typing game I've played this jam blows my mind.

And good job on this one! The thing I like the most about it is the visual presentation, but I like the gameplay and the varied music as well. The rhythm seemed a bit off with the music at times, but I didn't have a huge problem keeping up with it (apart from the speed level).

One idea I had while playing is to add new rules as the game progresses. For example: When you see two of the same letter in a row, type them twice as fast. I think there's potential in this concept and I enjoyed what you did with it.

Very good game :) I like it, but it is too hard for me. Great work!

I too had some timing issues with this one, but I think I got the hang of it eventually. I had fun on the first few levels, but the last one was too hard for me.

One thing to consider adding is some feedback on whether the game considered the key press to be too early, too late or just wrong -- maybe as different colors. That might make it easier for players to figure out what they're doing wrong, and how to adjust their timing.

daveroony 2018-04-29 06:00

@Pennycook That's a really good idea, thanks for the feedback!

Nice game! I liked the different songs. I found the timing quite hard, although the stick seems to indicate it quite clearly. I guess both my rhythm skills and typing skills need some practice. ;)

Nice! I always dig rhythm games. Great work on the music, having 5 songs of this quality for a jam is impressive. Gameplay was solid but got a little stale since it was the same rhythm the whole time. Also there wasn't much time to react & figure out when to start when a new word started - not a huge issue though until the last song. Seconding the recommendation for more sound/reaction when you hit notes. Not sure if it was just me but animals and places felt a little bit offbeat too. Still pretty fun, nice work!

Good game!

I like the conceptand it was fun to play. Perhaps with differents words and differente music it could be an educative game (typing, reading and rythm).

Good job with the music, too many songs for a jam so... great job!

Interesting concept but I think the beat is too fast. Because you have at first to know where every letter on your keyboard is and if you hit the false than your score is instantly lost and you start new. The music is really great and I think the beat of the letters should be a bit slower so you can type more letters without failing and the player get a better feeling during the game. In the game theory it is known as the Flow. It's annoying if it it's too difficult and booring if it's too easy. And maybe it's better if you can see your highest score at the whole time so that you know you have done some progress. Your art and music is really well done. By the way the song of places runs currently in my background. Love it. :D
