Nice one! I liked the mixing of the 3 games! I had the same idea but with just 2 and a bit differently while writing my entry (its not an arcade game).
Primitive and abstract. I liked it but most people would expect more. I know a VJ Toy when I see one! Nice effort. :-)
Was pretty bizarre, I did get the fighting system and did feel it was kinda uncomfortable. I like off the wall
This is Awesome, great work! :-)
I liked it. Original and off the wall, kinda short but a game none the less.
Nice work! Bit hard! :-)
I really enjoyed it, nice, vectorisque, simple, to the point (line?) :-) Thanks!
Hahahahah. Short, simple, sweet and funny! :-)
Fun little game :-)
Found this kind of addictive and enjoyed finishing it! Nice work, had a completed feel about it! :-)
Pity it wasn't complete, was enough to have fun mindlessly blasting stuff for a while though. :-)
I agree about the pac man feel, its like the power pill and munch ghosts vibe. Pretty off the wall, I like it! :-)
I liked it! Well done! :-)
Odd, abstract and weird. I like it! Though it didn't hold my attention for too long! Nice effort! :-)
Nice arcade feel. Good work! :-)
Well rounded work. Enjoyed the aesthetic and music. Simple but effective game. :-)
Gotta be the scariest entry yet! :-)
I liked this. Nice work. Simple, well rounded and unique. Did find the picking up and dropping didn't seem to flow as well as it could. Enough of an idea to expand as well at a later date if you choose too.
:-)
Nice to see another graphical adventure entry with music. :-)
Nice work, felt complete. The mechanic functions well and you might want to expand on the idea some time. Got the vibe of the old shadow of the beast from the dark aesthetic.
:-)
That rocked! :-)
I liked it! Was a bit on the slow side but still fun none the less. :-)
I enjoy playing this. Pretty basic but definitely likeable.
Quite amusing. Looks like ya had fun making it. :-)
Very well rounded and polished. Obviously some solid work up front on your own code base. One of the best entries in the 2d shooter department I have seen so far. :-)
Reminds me of Gravitron. :-) Nice work.
Good work, pretty twisted. Primitive but effective and rather dark. Well done! :-)
Polished entry :-)
Nice first shot! :-)
Well I never did escape!
But well I like weird, I like "I don't get this". This is abstract enough for me to play and have some kind of reaction too. I can see its unfinished but well isn't that the point of the 48?
It's never gonna be finished you just put a lid on it!
Technically I could see the game mechanics worked with background and foreground, smooth frame rate, etc...
Source code as well so thanks Johan!
:-)
Tried it in Firefox. Maybe I didn't get it but couldn't get much to happen. :-)
Good solid work! :-)
Well rounded and fun! :-)
One of my favorites so far. Top work all the way! :-)
I enjoyed this. :-)
Primitive and Entertaining. :-) I enjoyed it! Well done!
Impressive! Good effort! I liked it! :-)
Enjoyed it! Was a bit abstract in parts, but that's ok by me! :-)
This is meant to be a 48 hour entry, it was completed and uploaded within the 48 hours, just didn't create this entry (my bad).
Just a quick update. Working on a post competition version with corrections to content and media. Will contain a Macintosh run script (the game runs fine on Macintosh from the command line) and also a Linux version. Be gentle on the virgins! :-)
If the music is not working you may not have JMF installed correctly just java? The MP3's are in the media/audio.
Was my first ever time entering the challenge. Sorry is some of the content / humor is a bit obscure thristhart. Lots of messages and things to friends and stuff e.g. Hot Latte made by Jeddly, Muzzy's Leatherma, etc.... Some MMO humor in there as well.
Thanks for the feed back.
Update:
There seems to be an issue with Linux not receiving Mouse Input and I am building a Damn Small Linux box to test it.
Version 1.223 is looking good with various spelling fixes and a few bugs squashed.
Remixing the music a bit and will shorten it, looking into Ogg Vorbis so JMF is not required for music play back and will package it with the release.
When its all ready I will uploaded it and add a link at the bottom of my entry page to the post competition version.
Thanks for the feed back! Yeah, in retrospec 30m of music and .png over .jpg weren't the best decisions. :-)
Now that the competition is complete I would like to once again thank everyone. Did get a Ubuntu (Linux) Box built and working on getting a solid framework for Linux and iOS so I can do a 3 platform release next time.
Now its all done I am working on the next project work title - Quantum Want.
Certainly influenced by my Ludum Dare #21 entry. Don't wanna give away too much but it will be more off the wall humor and hand drawn art touched up digitally and music.
Contemplating raffling some of original art works for a low price ($5-15 dollars each + Postage) and maybe limit the larger pieces to people that have completed the game. Figured it might be a nice way to connect and share a bit of the game with people in not just a physical form.
:-)
I enjoyed it, primitive but well it is the 48 hour after all. Good effort! :-)
Fun simple and enjoyable. Nice entry :-)
Simple, fun and effective :-)
I always like a nice cup of WTF! :-)
Nice entry, really enjoyed it. Another favorites to add to the list. Thanks! :-)
I liked this! nice and out there! :-)
Thank you so much for the comments.
Been in chilling round the Xmas break but will work on an updated version once the break is over and improve the text rendering.
:-)
@Sargoat, The Game requires Java run, do you have Java installed?
@Caraha & Yoman, Feed back noted and will improve the text. Will also force the Inventory Items Selected list to be always be open.
The Linux Version is coming and along just working out the last bugs of my Application Base.
When all those changes and fixes are done I will post a link to the improved post competition version.
I enjoyed that, matched well to the theme.
jprogman:
Dam, I thought HD would all good, sorry about that the previous 1024 x 768.
wlad:
There is nothing bad about the game go for it, I will rate some more games.
Mac Users:
I have noticed that the Music does not seem to run on the Mac.
I have been meaning to do more ratings, sorry about that lots of unplanned things. Rated about 80 games for LD #21 and about 40 for LD #22.
Didn't manage to complete LD #23 due to food poisoning and chilled out after that (can be a downer not finishing).
So was happy to just finish LD #24.
Thanks for the comment.
:-)
Thanks, not special enough to make it tho.
Was a fun project none the less and probably one of the most off the wall games I have ever made.
Well done! That was some fun. Zaxxon inspired shooter!
Nice well rounded entry.
(Hey who cares if you could not fly into anything on the ground. Zaxxon was rather difficult)
I did not complete it. Was fun, well done! :-)
Seemed to freeze on death and I would have to restart the application.
Pew! Pew! Pew! :-)
That was fun! Pew pew pew pew! Nice sounds! :-)
Took me a few moments to twig onto the invisible bullets the player fires. Well rounded entry, enjoyed finishing it! :-)
A lot of fun with 2 people. Simple but effective :-)
That was some fun, Like the music. Well done! :-)
Very cute! :-)
Nice work! Well rounded and fun! :-)
Lots of fun. Really enjoyed this game. Nice we puzzler! :-)
Fun platformer.
That was some fun even if it was a large download. :-)
Good entry .. really enjoyed it .. the graphics were great .. extremely literal on theme entry, nevertheless ... fun but frustrating that it went to the start when I died.
Ha hahahahaha! So wrong! :-)
That was some good humor. Good well rounded entry for a shooter.
That was some fun! :-)
That was some fun! Thanks! :-)
@rustybroomhandle - You are welcome and thanks.
@ninjascript - Thanks, that is exactly what I was aiming for.
@ericdpitts - Critique noted, thanks. Not be too hard to made the buttons translucent and inactive when not an option.
@Dietrich. Nice one on looking at the .adven.xml (my adventure XML format). Hint: The quantum rod is used at a location too fix something (do not want to spoil it).
@Cudabear - Thanks. I wanted to create that feeling. :-)
@rustybroomhandle - Thank you for the encouragement.
@eruiz00 - Thanks. Remember "Island of Secrets" by any chance?
@Sunflower - Thanks for the critiques (gui code is always fun). Yes it is not exactly scientifically correct (also meant to be in the future).
@hungyg - Thanks. Bolygok is Hungerian for Planets. Yes the art is hand drawn and scanned. Color pencils (some being water soluble for that water color effect)
@Borgi - Thanks, used to have a copy of "Write your own adventure programs".
@Dry Tree - I had no problems using chrome, so not sure why it is not working for you (maybe try another browser?).
@hbocao - Thanks for the compliments.
At this point I am considering doing a similar but larger adventure game with player progress load / save (multi level / zone), more polish, more visuals and more music for the October write a game and sell it for a $1 compo.
What do you ladies and gents think of the idea? :-)
Definitely interested in what of "Ludumites" think of
That was fun. Well rounded and interesting. Good effort! :-)
Whip it! Whip it good! :-)
That was some fun. Smash'm! :-)
Bouncing about! :-)
Congratulation's on completing.
Nice game! :-)
the music on reset is doubling and tripling up ... ahhh ...
That was some fun! Nice rounded entry. Well done! :-)
Enjoyed it! Nice concept! :-)
Sorry but this isn't working still ... will this be coming up?
That was some fun! :-)
That was some humor! :-)
Awesome well rounded entry. Very delicious! :-)
Nice old school horror entry.
Enjoyed that, nice graphics. :-)
Nice puzzle game. :-)
Nice game and good visuals. :-)
Nice graphics! Baguette anyone? :-)
There are bugs so bug fixes are coming! :-)
The Bugs are so bad it will not even run except in dev mode on my machine. Will post when a working version is available.
Game is now loading and running so it can be downloaded and played, but...
Bad Bug in level completion code that needs to be fixed so the first level is not completable.
You can use command line args to see the 8 levels, example:
java ld level:3
Getting back to bug fixing.
All Systems are go!
The game can now be completed!
Please download and enjoy!
:-)
Matt:
Thanks for that. So Mac OS is out till I get a fix in, damn. BUG 006: added.
ianb96:
What system are you using? (try the run_game.bat file if using windows).
Both the dev.bld and debug.bld should not be there and are not required (just empty flag files anyway)
Creating a debug.bld file will make the game print debug information.
Okay update guys! Found problem with loading files and fixed it and updated the .zip so please try again.
ianb96:
Thanks! Hope you enjoy it! Completed it on delay:0 before, was not easy. Must fix the none looping music bug (app running in the first place was more important though and luckily not even code just some .xml).
Okay more bug fixes are in! :-)
jprogman:
Thanks! yeah there is no way to loose but you do have to play the game to win the level. The chickens eat any free ranging slugs pretty quickly and also get "energized" after eating a certain amount of slugs making them even more challenging. :-)
blob:
Thanks man, that is what I was aiming for.
mike.cullingham:
I do want to make a more fuller version at some point so will definitely add something like that.
rantt:
Thanks, been making music for a few years now, so much fun to do.
Sublustris:
Thanks. That is what I was hoping for! :-)
gene-z:
Thanks.
Snicklodocus:
Thanks. Did my best to make it feel old school. Coded "Sirius 7" on the Amiga back in the day. :-)
rudra:
Thanks. I am planning to make a better version (20 - 30 Levels and Custom Levels).
JDAivaliotis:
The game is pretty fast (even the slow version). The idea is to collect slugs (save them up for the last few levels ), collect bubbles and trap chickens (do not click! keep both buttons down - see below). You collect more slugs via the left side helper while waiting for the lettuce to spawn. Once all the lettuce has spawned you trap chickens then use the slug helper to release a burst of slugs to get the lettuce. Difficult lettuce can be hit by right mouse clicking the sides after it lights up green, then any right mouse click launches slugs you have, careful though as you use them quickly. The launched slugs are very very fast and cover allot of screen space. Then you keep the chickens trapped by right mouse (down) on them to strengthen the bubble and they do not escape.
That is the long of it. :-)
elefantopia:
It is better to keep both of the mouse buttons down than click. Then you pick up slugs / bubbles and also trap chickens at the same time (but do not go to the side edges of the screen and accidentally fire slugs).
Thanks guys. Have a draft Retrospective that will publish today.
Thanks for the feed back! :-)
Will let everyone know soon as possible my entry is stable.
Recovering from a Fever.
Taken a long time to recover. So conceding at this point. Was happy with the pixel art and music that got finished.
:-)
Obviously did not finish in time. Still working on the project though! :-)
That was some fun! Thanks. :-)
Interesting!
Nice Game Boy like Art. Fun entry! :-)
Fun game, nice music, solid entry. Thanks for that.
Web version didn't work for me. Java was fine. Fun game and Quite enjoyed it. Certainly echos Lemmings on the Amiga. Thanks.
Fun sneaking about! :-)
Interesting and fun. Simple solid core that definitely needs more expansion. Thanks for that.
Yummy Pixels and Pew Pew Pew. Enjoyed playing it. Nice entry!
Wonderful stuff! Well rounded entry. :-)
Fun game. Thanks
Nice graphics and animation. Enjoyed it allot. Thanks for that.
Quite an intriguing game. Thanks.
Nothing like head butting a dinosaur! :-)
On point with the theme and that is some fun. Thanks!
That is some fun! :-)
The right to bear arms, I mean snake arms! :-)
Fun entry. Thanks!
Enjoyed it. Thanks.
Psychedelic Pacman Gyruss. Thanks.
That was pretty darn cool. Thanks.
Nice game.
Lols on the audio! Fun game! :-)
Munching mushrooms. Om nom nom nom.
Cool game. Surprised me and I enjoyed it.
Well rounded entry. Enjoyed the music and visuals. :-)
Nice entry! :-)
Interesting game. Thanks.
Well rounded entry. Nice work.
Fun game! :-)
@Thunderous Echo - Stable version uploaded. Let me know how it goes.
I wrote it and run it on Windows 7.
Ok Found an Error. Game is not loading outside of my Dev system. Working on it and will post soon as it is fixed.
Found the Error and Debugged it. Fixed version is live.
Also tested and runs on Windows 10.
@Corupta - Thanks. One my new favorite tracks.
@Matlab - I updated the readme.txt and entry description text to be a bit more informative.
@sarayCow - Its all about shifting shapes on skates.
@TheMeorch - You are welcome. Nothing like see that first shape go flying off the screen on a skate board.
Once again thank you for your feed back. :-)
@caelanrp Thanks. I like it old school as well and think that is a core part of Ludum.
@namrog84 :-) Thanks man. Off to the factory with it!
@KodingNight Well I am Chaoslab.
@Kuality-Games Click on the Butterflys which then drop a Shape (symbol). Then just fire a Skate Board at it. :-)
Again thanks for the feed back, considering doing a tutorial image to help people out a bit with how to play the game and what is going on (And make it the first preview image of the entry).
@taviandir Click the butter flys to get shapes, and click Balloons (left drag is easiest) to get Skate Boards that you Fire and the Shapes which then get shifted off screen.
@ZpeedTube The game has 10 levels. :-)
@MayankUnreal Sure is fun. Did you finish all 10 levels.
@Jonak Try running the game slowed down ( run_slow.bat ) or if you need it slower run at the command line like this.
java LD delay:20
@dalbinblue "spawn a hundred skateboards at once". I love doing that too! It is the best way to get through level #8.
@Strike Thank you very much!
@Brian_Mayberry Awesome! That was the plan! I like to make abstract creations in Ludum Dare as it is a medium to explore, might as well leave the beaten path a wee bit.
@davidcmcdonald Thanks. Slowly getting my 3rd album together (Chaoslab on bandcamp).
@IDidGame Shape Shifting is the inspiration. Skate shifter is the pun title joke. The Butterflys are shape shifter's which spawn Shapes when clicked on. The Skate boards then Shift the Shapes (off the screen). So its all Shape Shifting really.
@Louspirit Thanks. Had fun making the art and music for the game. It can be slowed down by running the run_game_slow file. Can also be slowed down from the command line with the parameter delay: e.g.
Java LD delay:25
@pixelpotions Thank you!
@MintArcade It is fun when it all clicks!
@Voxel thanks for the video! Glad you and your boy enjoyed yourselves. :-)
Thanks everyone. :-)
Kill them with carrots! Managed to fall off the bottom of the screen in the room with big blue heads in it.
Lots of fun! Thanks.
Gorgeous! Pixels! Om nom nom nom! One of my favorites so far! Thanks you.
Nice visuals and cool concept.
Awesome stuff! Enjoyed myself immensely! Thank you very much! :-)
Had fun wondering about and eventually fell through the floor... Enjoyed it. Get the feeling you would like my VJ app called Chaoslab. Thanks for the trip. :-)
What lovely little game. Thanks for that one! :-)
Nice well rounded entry.
That was soooooo much fun! Awesome entry. Thanks for that. :-)
Nice well rounded entry. Thanks for that! :-)
Nice little game! :-)
Pew! Pew! Pew! :-)
Rainbows bouncing fun. Nice entry!
Gorgeous graphics and great atmosphere. :-)
That was some fun. Thanks.
That was awesome! Turrican meets Dangerous Dan! Well done, I really enjoyed it even if it was short. Obviously can't give artistic credit to the ripped material. Nice mash up. :-)
Cute and fun. Thanks! :-)
That was some fun. Hope you are going to expand on the idea some time. Thanks.
Good graphics and animation.
Found the attack system a bit confusing but fun over all.
Well done! :-)
Nice yummy visuals, enjoyable music and fun too play.
Took me a moment to realize firing arrows was done with the mouse (expected it to be key bound with the movement).
Well done.
Download link please! :-)
Finished it. Pretty short but that was some fun. Great Atmosphere! :-)
Well rounded entry. Nice pixel art! :-)
Good job. Decent pixel art, audio theme and mood.
Had some fun. Thanks!
This is cool. I say keep this idea and keep it really simple as a puzzle game and add elements that are fun. :-)
Fun, easy, nice graphics! Thanks for that.
Thanks for the heads up. Related to detecting any game controllers.
Should no longer fail. Just report the exception and you can use the Keyboard for control.
Found and fixed the problem with Game Controllers. All should be working now on OS/X and Windows.
@Strike - It is all in the readme.txt , Keys and Gamepad controls. The slow version of the game can be played by running the following bat/sh file.
run_game_slow.bat / run_game_slow.sh
@Jacqueslelezard - Thanks (Will just make an in game image next time with instructions).
@Ryusui - Was wondering if I tuned it too tightly. The trick is too fire in bursts, even from zero you still get in decent continuous barrages of the high powered laser.
@invader - Thanks for the critique and info. Corrected the .sh files.
Cool pixel art and good audio. Had some fun wondering about. Font on the terminals was a bit small. Fun none the less. Thanks for that. :-)
Enjoyed that. Thanks! I won! :-)
That was a blast. Good visuals and nice arcade like feel.
Shout out to Dinosaur games this LD36! My Jam - Dino Lazer. Is a Dinosaur with a Lazer on its friggin head!
Fast paced. Had some fun. Liked the Pixel Art. Thanks
A nice program the robot game. Reminded me of a game on the Amiga called Tower of Babel which featured programmable robots. Solid well rounded entry.
Reminded me of the old arcade game Gyrus. Nice pixel Art.
The links have gone dead. I would like to play your game.
Awesome entry. Moody and dark. Good work and a solid entry.
That was a fun we blast. Reminded me of Robotron. Pew pew pew. Thanks for that.
Nice little shooter. Fun blasting things! Thanks for the entry. :-)
It is some fun smashing the room about. Enjoyed myself. Thanks.
Cute little arcade game. Good Pixel Art and fun too play.
@LordSk - Thanks! Should all be working now!
Version 1.423 has been released.
- bugfixed Extra Lives. 2500, every 5000 till 25000, every 10000 till 65000 and then every 15000 after that.
- bugfixed Enemy generation so the game should be harder in general.
- added more bullet crystals on the last few levels.
- command line options added.
fast - for a harder / faster version of the game
fullscreen - to expand the app to fullscreen.
---------------------------------------------------------
@AcuadoyStudios - Thanks. Definitely thinking about expanding the design. Adding inventory / weapons and a populated place to scroll about explore in.
@Vadim Ivshin - Thank you very much. You might like another work in progress / project of mine - Lazer Neon Quazar a Shoot'm"Up.
@Alexander Kondyrev - Thanks man. I have been meaning to write a game like this for quite a while and will continue to build on it.
@sP0CkEr2 - Thank you very much. I started designing a joust like game back in the late 1980's on the Amiga which was never finished so it so I am stoked that I did get this one finished.
@Jezzamon - Looking into making a JRE bundled version using the Open JDK.
@stefvanschie - Thanks for the critique. You can run the game in fast mode which makes it harder just use the option fast when running it from the command line. Will be adding a hard command line option which will implement a harder version (weaker player, more enemies, less power ups).
@jeich
Thank you very much.
@Cerberus
You are welcome! Thanks.
@Karai17
Thank you.
@Karai17
Thanks. The original arcade controls are even trickier. :-)
@TheMonsterFromTheDeep
Thanks. What os / resolution you running? Using a new auto scaling method.
@Chao
Thanks. Will be adding a hard mode option.
Thank you for the critiques.
Some fun hoping about managing of the kitchen. Good visuals and sound. A well rounded entry.
Nice simple and fun game. Hit the spot nicely. Thanks!
Update: Have conceded this time. Got some pixel art and coding done. Happy with that none the less.
:-)
Working on debugging and will inform when stable.
Got carried away with debugging my release tools a bit.
20181213_screenie_01.gif
Still working on the game but it is no longer a 72 hour entry.
