Broken currently.

And i just realized you already mentioned it.

Looks cool so I'll play when you fix it. The art looks incredible.

Hi, nice game and congratulations ! We're realizing a video with several games of the Ludum Dare #36. We made the same thing at the previous jam.

Can you add your game on indiexpo.net ? (it's free)
So we can include also your game in the video ;)
p.s. write #LDJAM in the game's description.

nervous-composers 2016-08-30 13:54

Hm I can't seem to get past the title screen. Is that where it's supposed to be broken?

nervous-composers 2016-08-30 13:55

I like the pixel art and retro music on the title screen though =)

kai20 2016-08-30 15:35

dosen´t start after i pressed shift sorry man

coomzy 2016-08-30 18:29

Input seems to be getting block, when I finally got somewhere I interact with a terminal and it just said jammed and then I couldn't do anything.

geckoo1337 2016-09-01 16:30

It works but after a few seconds - with lag. There is a big amount of art work. Fun retro pixel game. Well done - except what I explained before ++

ludonaut 2016-09-01 21:47

I couldn't get past the title screen. Neat pixel art and music though, good job

roland-m 2016-09-02 20:01

Great job guys, the game was very fun to play! I enjoyed more playing at hyper speed to battle the space pirates! Awesome graphics and sounds. :]

kapricornmedia 2016-09-02 20:20

I want to go further in this so bad, but it is broken for me. Amazing pixel art and music. Love the retrowavey soundtrack when the game opens, also: "Potion OS" haha awesome.

casevse 2016-09-02 20:23

I like a lot the graphics and the music, the atmosphere is excepcional. Good work!

geckoo1337 2016-09-02 20:48

Now it works well. This is a good entry - a little story which is really interesting, but it was hard for me to gain credit. The main interest is in the retro aesthetic and mood. Well done ++

kai20 2016-09-02 20:53

art is pretty great. Also i love the idea of interacting with the world just through some consoles

sunflower 2016-09-02 20:53

After a few tries I eventually won. ^^

At first I completely didn't know what this was about. I thought it was meant as a sort of parody game, with the ship progressively breaking apart as it's an ancient technology and player always losing (I didn't even realise I can fix things). Only after reading the description I understood it was meant as an actual game. ^^'

Still, the audiovisuals were already pretty cool when I played the game the first time, and the next times it didn't change (maybe the letters could be larger, though). The pirates dogfighting aspect was pretty fun to play.

The aspect of choosing between safe slow travel or quick dangerous one would be interesting, but the fact that the game seems to offer nothing particularly interesting in the slow travel time, it generally is more fun to fight the pirates, anyway. ^^' Also, with no apparent to choose the tasks I can't even do any optimisation (plus, random rewards add unpleasant luck factor; i.e. depending on how generous RNG is, the game might end in more or fewer turns).

If there was ability to choose the tasks, as well as something fun to do when flying slowly, I feel the management aspect (aside from fighting and repairing aspects) would be pretty cool. Nonetheless, really neat entry. ^^

On a side note, rare deaf leopards seem to be quite common around there. ;)

pixelpotions 2016-09-02 21:42

@everyone Thank you for playing our game!

@kapricornmedia Can you explain to me what is broken? What happens and where does it happen?

terracottafrog 2016-09-02 23:04

Really cool ideas, but I think it gets a little bit repetitive. It seems unnecessary for the combat to be on a different machine from the rest. Everything could be on one terminal, and leak warnings could force you to pull away from combat or other activities. That could make the gameplay flow a lot better.

Excellent work on the art, though. The title screen looks amazing. Combat is also beautiful.

It took me a few tries to understand the game, but I was eventually able to beat it!

Although I would like to complain about the lack of UI (when walking around the ship) and how it makes more difficult to understand what's happening, I must agree that controlling a ship (specially an ancient tech) would most likely be like that. After a while, I was even able to easily parse all the information that I needed (although I'm still no sure what most of the components represent).

On the radar screen, I felt like there isn't much besides trying to avoid bullets and enemy ships. I may be wrong, but I didn't feel like trying to get closer to enemies helped aiming at them... However, encounters always resolved quite quickly, so I do think this is a problem at all.

The graphics are great, but they require some getting used to (specially within terminals). This isn't a bad thing, but I'm afraid it can turn some players down... D:
I really liked the chiptune-ish/lo-fi synth music! It's a perfect match to the pixel art graphics!

Amazing work! =D

linus123xbb 2016-09-03 22:04

Nice retro style game, the controls could have been better explained, I didn't really know how to fight the pirates.

dertraveler 2016-09-04 14:31

Great atmosphere with the old 8-bit music while you are alone in space. The graphics are also great and fitting :)

Nice little game :) But unfortunately I died at 30000 credits since I was too greedy and wanted to go on immediately.

headmade 2016-09-06 13:39

The art and soundtrack are absolutely amazing! The animations are cute and the pixel work looks just lovely. Well done.

I did not understand what I had to do in the game. Only after reading the description here I had a clue. It would be nice if the game would teach the player how to play.

The console font is very stylish and fits well into the game but is hard to read. I admit that the text is not really important thus it's acceptable to be unintelligible.

mrmordem 2016-09-07 13:44

Awesome art & sounds / music.

It's not really a problem or a missing feature, but it would be nice if it was possible to walk in the 8 directions. The escape key to quit boards is a bit confusing when you have to use shift to interact with it in a first place.

Reading in game text was a bit difficult, it could be useful to increase the font size.

It's a good concept, it feels like FTL (the game) but with only you to do all the work on board manually. I would love to play this kind of game with a friend or more, a kind of starship simulator.

It was a nice & fun touch to add your logo on the lower right corner of boards' screens.

runvs 2016-09-07 20:13

Very nice graphics and awesome music! Extra points for using Haxe! :D
I would have loved some sort of tutorial telling me what to do and where to go. It's a great game.

jonathang 2016-09-10 17:11

I got to 46,870 credits before I stopped. I love the pixel art graphics and fighting the pirates is quite fun once you figure out what's going on. The walking around fixing stuff is a bit too busy-work-y - it's more fun in FTL to just order other people to do it :) More stuff to explore/do and possibly multiplayer could be extremely fun - good job :)

chaoslab 2016-09-11 01:37

Cool pixel art and good audio. Had some fun wondering about. Font on the terminals was a bit small. Fun none the less. Thanks for that. :-)

jupiter_hadley 2016-09-11 16:09

Lovely graphics, well made game! I included it in my compilation video series of Ludum Dare 36, if you’d like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/kkOlDKzD1Xw
