This is one of my favourites so far. Very appealing art style, smooth and satisfying gameplay, nice music. The time lapse effects are an excellent touch.

Awesome entry, feels very well made. The style, art, and audio are excellent in their own right, but become even better when combined. At first I had trouble with the controls, but after figuring it out (after dying a few times) the game became significantly more enjoyable and felt good to play. Only suggestion is more interesting obstacles in the level.
Nice work!
What I liked:
- Controls feel wonderful and responsive
- Well designed and effective levels
- Simple but nice visual style
- Runs very well in the browser
What could be improved (IMO):
- An explanation of how there are actually three ways to push the controls would be nice (took me a while to figure it out)
- More levels (of course this is unreasonable given the time restriction, but there's so much potential here).
Excellent work.
What I liked:
- Pixel art looks great
- Dynamic simulation of the vine down to the individual pixel works very well
- Feels good to play, polished
- Music is simple but fits with the mood
What I think could be improved:
- Sometimes its hard to tell which direction the vine is going on, maybe the indicator should be closer to the head?
- Hard to tell how much of an affect touching water is having on your water levels.
What I Liked:
- Good number of levels.
- Visual style is effective and consistent.
- Innovative growth mechanic.
- Very polished UI.
Things that could be improved:
- Controls are rugged.
- Some levels (especially earlier) are repetitive and don't use the growth mechanic much.
- Judging size relative to the rings can be hard and unsatisfying.
Pretty good base for a game, nice work.
Fun little experience. Seems very difficult to lose, but maybe that was intended. The procedural generation is nice; I especially like the way the terrain pops up in front of you, although when you get big it becomes pretty obvious. Low poly art is good too. Nice work!
Things I liked:
- Two button controls worked well and created a few interesting scenarios.
- Tight and precise controls.
- Decent music.
- Good number of levels for the time constraint.
- Runs well.
Things that could be improved:
- Graphics could be a bit more refined (the style isn't too bad).
- Levels are pretty repetitive.
- Game requires an installer.
- Not very challenging.
- Fixed window size/resolution/no full screen.
Overall, good amount of content but could be refined some more. Good job!
What I liked:
- Very tactile and satisfying game play
- Visuals clearly convey which button to press
- The panic and intensity when the board starts to fill up
What I think could be improved:
- Difficulty ramps up too fast IMO, it seems like it would be impossible to get much further than 90
Things I liked:
- Visuals are clear and effective.
- Visuals progressing and changing in tune with game play.
- Audio complements game play and visuals well.
- Challenging but fair, good difficulty curve.
- Very innovative concept.
- Runs and plays well.
Things that could be improved:
- Mechanics could be explained a bit better in game.
- Font can be difficult to read
This is one of the best entries to the jam I have seen so far. Excellent work!
Oops, forgot to make it public. Fixed the broken links.
@Charging Llama
Thanks! I cut it close getting the game finished as is, didn't really have time to balance it much. The game seemed too easy so I made it much harder before release, maybe I went too far?
@AdamAlexander
Thanks. The pirates are supposed to avoid the mountains unless there are no other possible paths, but my implementation isn't exactly what you'd call "good code". Life energy is mainly used to grow jungles which damage the pirates. Could be explained better in game, but I ran out of time for a tutorial.
@jsmars
Thanks for the feedback! Originally the pirates did move all at once, but that changed in the last few hours due to some problems with the way I was animating them. The mid-late game definitely needs some serious improvements, and also some ways to mix it up so that all islands don't end up as jungle spirals of death.
@ashdnazg
It is way too easy to mess up at the start. Maybe I'll start the game with a forest next to the volcano, or maybe just plant a tree on the volcano. :)
Its a shame about the lack of audio, but I got caught up in fixing bugs with the AI (why did I choose to implement path finding in my first Ludum Dare), and polishing things that really aren't that important (like the UI hover information). I'll be sure to plan out a time frame for my next jam. Thanks for the feedback!
What I liked:
- Very effective visuals that tie in with game play.
- Combination of audio and visuals creates a nice mood.
- Innovative mechanics.
- Runs well.
Things that could be improved (IMO):
- Camera movement in first person is too loose.
- Ends abruptly.
Excellent work.
I would love to play this properly, but I am prevented by random slow-downs (game slows to half speed) and stutters that occur every few seconds.
Excellent game, one of the best I've seen so far. Simple but deep game play that rewards you for thinking ahead and setting up synergistic combinations of tiles. The game itself also feels well made and is enjoyable to play. Great work!
Nice game, especially for your first Ludum Dare! Block placement could be improved (maybe by letting you place them with your mouse around your character?), but the game works, is fun, and that's something you should be proud of. :)
This is one of my favourite entries so far. The concept is unique, the gameplay is fun and satisfying, and there's some strategy to how you position your relics. Its simple and well-executed. Great job!
Nice entry. The concept is really cool, I especially liked the living bookcase that tries to flatten you. The graphical models are nice but the overall visual look could be improved a lot by adding colour. The combat was simple and fun, but too easy, especially since you can spam attack as faster as your keyboard allows and mow through the enemies. The music was fitting, and I liked how it changed in combat. The biggest issue I had was that I fell through the floor at one point and had to restart. Overall well done.
@BUNN1E5 - Yeah, visual cues for when you're about to die would be very useful.
@DalesDiscountTires - Thanks! The repair bar times were originally lower, but it felt like they barely impacted the game so I raised them. Maybe I should just speed the entire game up.
@Firellon - Thanks for the feedback. The lack of audio is probably a big part of the lack of tenseness, but I ran out of time and was only able to implement three sounds in time.
The solar panels don't need to turn off automatically because they don't do anything when there's no sun anyways :), probably could make that a bit more obvious though.
Yeah the robot controls are something you have to micromanage, it should probably take zero power because of that.
@Holofire - Thanks!
@AAGH Games - Thanks for the feedback. More cues as to when bad things are happening would be good, but they took a lower priority than getting the game done in time :). Audio cues would be especially good I agree.
@fullmontis - Thanks for pointing that out. I have added the data folder to the .zip.
This is a really solid game. The art is nice, the sounds are good, and the gameplay feels responsive and balanced. It was challenging but not frustrating, which is a difficult balance to hit. The enemy AI could be better, you can easily get an enemy stuck on a corner where you can shoot it but it can't shoot back. It would also be nice to have multiple weapons.
Good job overall!
This was fantastic! A nice simple idea executed well. I really liked the ending cutscene that matches what you selected for each hour, that was a nice touch, as well as the random (I presume :P) comments. I could see this being very replayable with a bit of balancing. Good job, one of my favourite entries so far.
This is a pretty great job for your first game jam! It seems like drop kicking was a bit overpowered though, steamrolled through the whole game with it :P
