Hi, nice game and congratulations ! Simple mechanics that still offered a decent amount of challenge. We're realizing a video with several games of the Ludum Dare #36. We made the same thing at the previous jam.

Can you add your game on indiexpo.net ? (it's free)
So we can include also your game in the video ;)
p.s. write #LDJAM in the game's description. (you can already find several games from the jam there)

Great and original concept.
The terminal works perfectly, and I was taken aback to find it was fully functioning, and that I was able to request real youtube videos (to be honest I was expecting a mockup homepage with a few short clips).
Unfortunately I was unable to get the VCR to play any of the videos, I'm assuming this is a bug. I checked my firewall a few other things, but I was unable to get anywhere.

Wow, i can play memes over a cmd console. possibly the best thing i've done this ludum dare.

Cool! Looks great. I would like to see something more done with this ;) Like a cool conspiracy story line. In all seriousness, the monitor and computer controls nicely.

cmangas 2016-08-30 14:29

Very original, I loved it, though I had a bit of desync on the audio of the first video I watched.

ishikawanakamura 2016-08-30 14:29

wow that is really good.
It fits the theme it is an original concept

@BlueLlama Thank you for your kind comment - unfortunately in the latest version of Unity, dynamic MovieTexture loading is a little broken. We're looking into a fix.

It's really cool , the graphics were great , the sound well was like it's supposed to be :D , and original and unique idea , really cool

leondryaso 2016-08-30 19:30

Not really a real game, but still really cool and playing stupid videos using a console and a VCR is like the best thing ever! :D

kai20 2016-08-30 21:22

i am sorry but its just not my kind of game with these terminals but it pleaseant to the eye ;)

aaranos 2016-08-31 01:37

This is pretty amazing. Imagine watching a review of your game inside of your game.

This is a very clever use of the theme and I will be showing this to my friends for sure. Love it.

whitepot_studios 2016-08-31 06:08

Cool take on the theme and it's nice that you actually got it hooked up to youtube.

Having a few more things that fit in with the retro internet feel to mess around with in the level would have been nice, but I guess it was meant to feel a bit dystopian.

It's not much of a game, but it does what it set out to do and does it well.

Wow this so cool. Fits theme perfectly, and the fact you managed to integrate Youtube like that is amazing. Even if it's not a real game - it's great. Good job! :D

supr 2016-08-31 10:38

Unfortunately I couldn't play the videos. Maybe I got the same bug like the user BlueLlama. Anyway, I enjoyed the conversations with terminal. Thank you for making this!

This is damn epic ! \o/
Excellent job. Maybe the audio source from the tv would be better as a 3D sound to get stereo effect when moving around the room.

phobos001 2016-08-31 17:12

Oh shit the TV ate and destroyed the tapes after I put them in how will I be able to return them now??????

Jokes aside, this was a really cool little project. I found it really fascinating and tried out all sorts of different YouTube videos just so I could watch them on a tiny TV in a video game. Awesome work guys!

ajayajayaj 2016-08-31 17:40

Everything is black for me except screens, which display static. Weird...

blinry 2016-09-01 22:11

I loved the little room, and I loved the sounds the computer makes. But my tapes never arrived. Is that a bug? Also, the game didn't close properly, but crashed when I pressed Alt+F4. Windows 10.

Minor nitpick regarding the command line: It's unusual that you see the prompt after pressing enter. It should first output the result, then show the prompt again.

Thanks for making it, awesome idea, even if it didn't work for me! :)

pogo 2016-09-01 23:08

@blinry: sorry it didn't work for you - currently there is a bug where you are able to search for and request playlists and channels, in which case the game will download multiple videos, but never deliver one. If the game failed to close properly it was probably still trying to download and convert video files in the background.

I'm sorry you experienced these difficulties.

cakeknuckles 2016-09-03 16:54

wow! this is such a cool idea. i was skeptical at first, but then i did some queries and realized that they were actual youtube vids! mind blown. i know some people have noted technical difficulties, but thankfully everything ran smoothly for me.

i really liked the visual style of the monitor and computer, though the rest of the room was a little sparse, it definitely wasn't the main experience, so i wouldn't count it as a detriment. i think this could be kinda fun in VR, haha.

good job!

celia14 2016-09-03 22:19

Woah, this is such a cool and unique idea and I'd impressed with how it works. Nice job.

I agree with some other commenters, something about the eerie atmosphere makes me feel like I might discover a Her Story-style mystery, which would be neat too! Though browsing Youtube this way is fun in itself. :D

One of the single most impressive concepts I've played for a Ludum Dare. And I say that because as an experience, it was just fantastically interactive, original, and totally enjoyable. I was streaming at the time of playing and everyone in chat lost it at how cool it was too.
