LD36 — Ancient Technology

Pre-ARC by Geruhn 2016-08-30T21:17:00

Echoing @NEETsoftLD, I would love to play this properly but don't have my phone handy right now. I found the AirConsole simulator quite buggy - it was laggy/unresponsive for a bit, but I got the game open!

I really love the logo designs, art style, and general theme of the game - it does not quite carry across to the actual gameplay screen though.

Legend of ZOL - Lightbringer by Nervous Composers 2016-08-30T20:37:00

Great art style and cool concept. Like it's a simple mechanic that you've made work really well. Loved everything but the music - got a bit repetitive.

PS My adventure does not sux :( But I went back and did another one because of that ending screen haha!

A Day With Mr Lmao by seveca95 2016-08-30T20:33:00

Cool music for the intro - I would use a different font for the instructions than the title however. Wasn't too clear that platforms had to be avoided completely rather than jumped on - but the death sound and blood animation made me laugh. I recognise that stock sound... oh god...

Gregos Journey by yotam180 2016-08-30T21:51:00

I was doing the binary lock left-to-right rather than right-to-left - didn't realise until I came to your comment! Argh. Great music though and I liked the text-to-speech stuff.

Machine ARENA by Kurakurt 2016-08-31T06:12:00

I really love the art style - the music is cool just quite repetitive. I managed to level my hero up a few times :) I got a bit bored quickly though - I tried hitting the cog at the back a few times to be sneaky, but I did like when you walked backwards it flings you straight into the golem.

Gorak'Zul by mockillo 2016-08-31T06:20:00

I love that sword particle effect! It looked awesome! The pyramid texture could be upgraded, there is a bit of a mis-match in assets.

It has the same problem our game has in that enemies can rush towards you into a big clump, then you can jump on top of their heads. It is nice having an ungodly ability to climb though.

Cool name and concept, just too many enemies at times. A sprint would be good.

Why Am I In The Past? Who Cares! Shoot The Romans by Whitepot Studios 2016-08-30T23:15:00

Thanks @simple_blue - I've updated the description about the assets used. The menu/death screen was made from scratch but any 3D models were from ones freely available online and then we rigged them :)

It was our first game jam so I wasn't sure how much of a 'faux pas' it was to use other assets - definitely if we're doing the Compo in future I'll have to learn some 3D modelling!

Thanks guys for the feedback and comments. I too do not know or understand why our character is in the past.

Backwoods Culinary Basics by skreeb 2016-08-31T05:56:00

This is the most innovative one I've seen yet - much like real life, I burnt everything and threw away my frying pan. 10/10

Dino X by NEETsoftLD 2016-08-30T21:19:00

Reminded me a bit of dino run but with skateboards :D Loved the music and art style, just everything was whizzing by a little too quickly and making it difficult to play for a long time. Keep it going!

Theovexus by Phobos001 2016-08-31T05:46:00

I really loved this - so polished for a 72 hour game jam. Like the 2D/3D shooter style is class. Well done.

A few things of note - the red full-screen flash was a bit much for me, a bit jittery. It was great to see clear feedback though. I could not kill any enemies, I think I'm just a shit shot - I ended up running frantically and that was still really fun.

I can't wait to see what you would do with this if developed further. I love how you had pick-ups and different weapons in already (way further than we got).

My house is over there by kyyninen 2016-08-30T20:30:00

Absolutely loved the wee cars, their lighting, and the fact I couldn't jump on top of them and make them move to get me from A to B ;)

I definitely loved the low-poly style straight from the screenshots, but when I opened the game I noticed the bush/Tree textures did not match low poly style - not a big deal at all - but I loved them rustling in the wind.

Text hard to see in light sometimes - consider using a stroke outline or dropshadow.

I fell off the map and you replaced me :D thanks

When I walked into the green light and disappeared and 1/4 came up i actually SCREAMED haha. This is so awesome, but I think I'll stop here as suspense games make me way too freaked out - that's how good a job you did!

Fix It by Cawrtz 2016-08-31T05:32:00

I really enjoyed this and ended up playing it for ages! I felt really silly I couldn't get past the bit where I needed a lamp - but I just really suck and jumping around walls and stuff.

It reminded me of an old Neopets puzzle game (in a good way) - and funny too :)

Charles 2 - Charles and the Ancient Ruins by chipcaramel 2016-08-30T20:15:00

Great art and animations :) Some tricky keyboard combinations, W A S D by default as well as directional arrows would be nice.

The Secret of Sarcophagus by Mimus 2016-08-30T21:07:00

I was not expecting a .jar file haha it opened smoothly with no issues (Windows 10)!

First off loved the fact the instructions were immediately above the character's head right away - awesome (but after you pick up the first box and walk past that box-point again the box-pickup instruction text still comes up)

Also the effect on the light of rotating/moving the torch is really nice.

Nice wee simple game with clean 2D graphics and good sounds.

Archaeologist Simulator by Captain Awesome 2016-08-31T06:01:00

I am so glad you commented on our's with the Unity info about the image effects and ambient occlusion - thanks so much for that super useful advice.

I love what you have done, putting a mad-man with a gun in an ancient setting. Great minds think alike ;)

I can't believe you did this all in 3 days - it's like Temple Run meets Golden Eye. Awesome.

The great catapult war by JK5000 2016-08-31T05:39:00

I like the the clean board game-esque art style and I loved the sound assets, really reminded me of something like worms.

As others have said, game-play and turn progression was a bit slow for my tastes and I found it hard to move in for a kill without running right into a counter attack.

A quality of life improvement I'd really like to see would be being able to change the selected catapult with out having to go down and click cancel at the bottom of the screen.

Temple Quest by Vaiaphraim 2016-08-30T21:40:00

Out of force of habit I initially tried to use WASD for the commands and it kept saying 'level complete' instantly - not sure what's happening there! My character was moving too quickly before I could read the instructions to see what 'jump' was.

Overall I liked the music but the art style was a bit difficult to look at. It's impressive you made all your own assets but more practice is needed.

4' for freedom, gladiator by adrenalineChallenger 2016-08-30T22:57:00

I thought the music was a bit loud/repetitive but I like the concept. Unfortunately once I chose my items & the round started I died instantly :p

I am Stone by theMeatly 2016-09-01T20:49:00

This is one of the best looking games I've seen in the jam. I did have an issue with the data tablets appearing half way off screen but that might have been just me missing a button to bring them up properly. The ending was cool.

Something is Wrong with this Museum by Allthebees 2016-08-30T21:34:00

Love the "futuristic" intro screen but didn't really match up with the rest of the style. I too agree about the microwaves and diappointing lasagne though. Really funny. Unfortunately, I sucked at wall jumping to get the key to unlock the door and had to give up after about five minutes of trying.

The 'lounge museum music' was spot-on!

Gizmo of Giza by diest 2016-08-31T05:48:00

Good art style, really nice clean pixel art.

While the puzzles in this version are fairly simple, I could see the mechanic lending itself to some really cool stuff if you had some more time.

Floppy by brainybeard 2016-08-31T06:25:00

As soon as I saw the hand-drawn style I KNEW I wanted to play this :)

As @lonesurvivor says, I had no idea there was content other than moving around. I tried three different resolutions & windowed & full screen, and could see there was text being clipped off at the bottom but couldn't get to it.

For an Agar-style game I think all the assets also need to be the same shape. Lots of potential!

The Ancient Engineer of Atlantis by MffKing 2016-08-30T21:54:00

Cool concept, with more added you could have something like the 'Cookie Clicker' game. A bit bare bones but the foundation is there!

- Vicky

Small Civilzation by qikcik 2016-08-30T22:54:00

I really like the art sprites and the concept :) I had some trouble mashing the spacebar to proceed from the menu, and I echo @m110 saying about the bug with the numbers. Once I found the submenus though I got the hang of it!

Oldfag adventure. by Xakkar 2016-08-30T20:58:00

Not a fan of the name at all. That said, downloaded and gave it a go anyway. Unfortunately I was sliding about quite a bit - the music was repetitive and I used up all my moves in one go somehow :(

- Vicky

Sprite Warrior by monkeybit29 2016-08-31T05:49:00

I would love to download this, but the 385MB filesize was just taking too long to download. Maybe repackage/make assets smaller :)

- Vicky

Boxatons by Avon 2016-08-30T20:45:00

Kinda reminded me of Gang Beasts a bit. Cool music and setting - a bit hard to read the font at the top. I think what others were saying about difficulty settings is a good idea - whatever my technique was I was terrible at this :p

However - loved the controls, used a combo of keyboard and mouse. Really well done!

- Vicky

Matter of Survival by keln 2016-08-30T20:53:00

Loved the dancing tribe animations and some funky tunes in there too ;)

Just a bit hard to understand the concept and it took me until my second play to realise the icons within the game corresponded to the ones listed in the menu (I feel like the type of person you need to idiot-proof things for). Perhaps it was because it was full screened for me and it was hard to tell what was what.

So loved the design and the music, just very confusing. Good idea though :)

- Vicky

Melthain by RttStudio 2016-08-31T06:15:00

Really liked the concept and the music - I think you should have picked a cover photo that does the game more justice! I am so bad at multitasking - I really sucked at this :p But I liked how you could cycle the camera focus between characters, really clever. Great basis for a game there.

- Vicky

TBFTWOR_LD36 by joemid 2016-08-30T20:16:00

Would love play, but as others have echoed - no Windows version. However, thanks for posting a link to your LD35 entry with Windows download! Will have a look as I really liked the screenshots.

Retro YouTube Simulator by pogo 2016-08-31T06:08:00

Cool take on the theme and it's nice that you actually got it hooked up to youtube.

Having a few more things that fit in with the retro internet feel to mess around with in the level would have been nice, but I guess it was meant to feel a bit dystopian.

It's not much of a game, but it does what it set out to do and does it well.
