While the driving and rendering may have taken longer than expected, I'd say it was worth it! The game looks and feels really cute.

Pretty impressive! I've never written a software renderer but I can imagine you need some experience for that. The racer feels pretty fluid, and the rendering is also pretty good, except for some jagged lines when turning the car. If I were you I would keep this code around, maybe improve it a bit, and use it next LD for your next game!

So here's the thing.
A. The visuals are really appealing and I think succeed as your intended tech demo of sorts.
B. You called your game Don't Race Me Or My Son Ever Again. I laughed out loud when I read it.
I mean that's worth something, to me, at least.I shouldn't have found that as unexpectedly funny as I did, but here we are.

Not a game, but the visuals are very good. And knowing that you wrote the renderer from scratch makes it more impressive. Good work mate!

This is amazing from a technical standpoint. It seems crazy to pull such a thing off in the given time. It's a shame you didn't have enough time to put more content into it.

That was a funny game !

drusilla 2016-04-18 22:05

It really does look great. It feels nostalgic, somehow.

Nice raycasting! I like the interesting effect if the camera passes through a hill.

Smooth physics and cool aesthetic. Wih more time you could do something interesting. Impressive skill to develop renderer. Bravo ++

I love the aesthetic of the rendering. Takes me back to the original need for speed. The first driving game I fell in love with.

Very fun game :D

phocker 2016-04-20 03:41

i'm giving you hi humor just for the title - the renderer is excellent and you should use it for your next game

idkfawin32 2016-04-20 06:25

Thanks :D I'm actually still working on this game and plan on finishing it.

lochmann-apps 2016-04-21 07:23

That title is so nice! Love the style. Another entry with a vehicle. Give mine a try too

arhpositive 2016-04-22 09:32

Sure, it's not finished, but spending this much effort to rendering is remarkable. Kudos!

zenmumbler 2016-04-22 09:32

Looks like a voxel-renderer, nicely made. Next time reuse this renderer and make a full game! I dig the old-school look.

leom 2016-04-22 18:18

Well, the render engine look pretty nice !
Now you done the longest you are ready for the next LD and you will make us something awesome ! ;)

reactorscram 2016-04-23 02:11

The graphics are cool. You should write a blog post on how they work, if you haven't already.

schw3de 2016-04-23 15:04

I remember as those grafiks style, was the state of the art! Not bad, implementing all that stuff in java!

rock-eaters 2016-04-29 18:08

didn't manage to launch the game :(

lkr 2016-05-08 22:55

Cool how you made this renderer in 48 hours :)
I guess there's not much "game" to rate/comment on, but I did like what I saw and think it would be cool to see something more made out of it.
