Interesting. Camera controls are a little wonky though.

deaymon 2018-08-17 21:20

Wow, that was something! I liked it!

Motion Blur felt kind of pointless to me, though.

bobismijnnaam 2018-08-21 09:40

@deaymon Thanks! At first I only added it as general juice, but later I found out it actually makes the ending and the "strange floaty" a ton better.

Post-processing effects looks cool and I like such games with first person view, but I didn't understand the sense of the game, I was collecting sticks, sleeping and do the same over and over again. The game on the monitor didn't let me buy something. Sound of getting sticks from that mystery thing is really annoying. Maybe it could be a really interesting entry including mystery gameplay, but I didn't understand it. Maybe I'm just stupid, sorry :D Would be happy if you explain the stuff, please

@riptidestudio Thanks for your comment! It sounds like I didn't make it clear enough that pressing space bar the main goal :D

The idea is that you play an idle game a la cookie clicker but with your space bar. You collect "spaces" by pressing the spacebar in-game. However, sometimes the spacebar breaks, and you have to look around in the house for a new spacebar (these are actually the sticks you are referring to ;)). Some spacebars are left around the house, but if you run out you can always ask the strange floaty for more. As the game develops you can buy the end-game item which sets in motion the final stage with an interesting cutscene.

Hope this explains the game a bit better for you. If you have any comments after giving it another shot I'd be very happy to hear them :)

Fun game, lost a couple of spaces because they slid across the floor under the cabinets.

riptidestudio 2018-08-21 12:25

@bobismijnnaam Yes, it makes things more clear, thank you!

lu7cie 2018-08-21 13:48

I don't really get what's the goal of the game, I buy many things on the computer and recover many spacebars with the floating thing (like 15 on the second day). And at the end I offer 4 spacebars to the little statue, camera shaking, and the menu.. What happens ?? It's too bad because the game is fluid, the 3D modelling is good and the lighting too..

ratstail91 2018-08-28 13:25

That was something. I just wish I knew what...

renier 2018-08-28 19:45

Liked the game and the visuals , maybe would have liked more easy unlock-able items maybe some at like 100, 150, 200 just to fill it up a bit between all the space pressing :D but I liked the take on the theme

Cool!

... Okay, this was interesting. 10/10, would offer spare space bars obtained from an eldritch artefact to my personal shrine to the Space Buddha again. I confess that it took me a while to realise that I had to use the Enter key to buy things from the shop, and that Space accumulated currency. To be honest, I clicked on this because of Space Cadet... You know, the pinball game from the old versions of Windows? Man, I wasted so many hours on that back in the day... Anyhow, this was interesting, but I find myself a little... puzzled by the whole thing. Not entirely sure what to think, really. You've certainly made something unusual, so you get good points for innovation, I guess... :) Oh, and you also definitely get points for the way the game fits the theme. Running out of _Space_... Bloody ingenious. Initially tried the webGL build on Firefox, and it seemed to perform awfully. Switching to Chromium, because FF tends to be arse when it comes to webGL games, made it work pretty much identically, but would not play sounds for no reason. Ultimately, I played it with the desktop build, which... well, I guess it worked fine, and I guess the slightly laggy controls, the terribly prominent motion blur (I hate that particular effect in general, but that's personal bias), and the general sense of things being... off... were done so by design. Nice!

Great game! Very cool and interesting! :D

yetman 2018-08-30 16:52

That was interesting. The game is sooo meta and as a person who hates idle clicker but still find them addictive, I totally relate to this game (I also fear that I will break my keyboard). The main problem I have with the game is the motion blur; While it gives the game a dreamy feeling, it makes it feel to laggy and picking the space bars was a nightmare. I see in your comment above that it made the ending feel better so I suggest that you either decrease the strength of the blur and dial it up again near the end of the game. To be honest, I was not sure what I was doing and game became weirder as I progress but it was a really nice experience overall.

bobismijnnaam 2018-08-30 17:31

@Lumos Thanks for your comment! From what I've read on the internet "space cadet" is also a way of describing someone with his/her head in the clouds, which relates to the character that loses himself in the space bar game, like in my game. However after submitting I also realised it is the same as that windows game which I also lost many hours to :) Sorry to hear the WebGL didn't work well for you, Unity still doesn't seem to get consistent performance on that end.

@Yetman I didn't spend too much time on tuning post processing but I'll be sure to tune it better next time, thanks :)

I enjoyed the oddness, didn't mind the motion blur. I played for a while, got spacebars from various places, and offered them to the buddha, but then the game seemed to crash. Overall, pretty good!

bbapps 2018-08-30 20:32

This was really awesome. I was a little confused at first but once I figured it out I had alot of fun playing.

solrun 2018-08-30 21:20

That was kinda weird. And kinda spooky. I'm not really sure if I got to the end of the game or not? I never got the one door to open. I think I bought everything I could in the game. I may have had another spacebar delivery I could've bought, but it was at like 40000. Everything else was greyed out even when I had enough money for it. I fed the Buddha 4 spacebars and it took me back to the main menu. It didn't seem to be any different if I gave him the spacebars on day 2 or day 10.

I didn't mind the clicker game at first, but now I've played it a million times trying to see if I could open the last door to no avail so now it's a little less exciting.

I like the mood this game sets. You can just tell how much of this guy's life is absorbed by the clicker game. All he has in his house is the clicker game and some spacebars. He has even taken off all the other keys on his keyboard. He has a note on the wall reminding himself of how much he loves spacebars as if he had to remind himself to get more spacebars. The game itself also seems to be more than a game. It has upgrades that you can purchase in game so that your space bar lasts longer. It's a game that somehow also interacts with the real world. Plus you have the otherworldly nature of the Space Buddha you can order that will murder you if you give it 4 spacebars and the Strange Floaty that gives you more spacebars.

bobismijnnaam 2018-08-31 06:39

@solrun Thanks for the comment! You got most of the things I "implicitly" put in the game, very good :) That one door doesn't open unfortunately so you probably 100%'ed it.
