Interesting concept, although I wasn't completely sure what was happening on the screen.

andresgames 2014-12-08 19:40

It's supposed to be lights going out randomly. Hence the yellow glowing things.

jarry 2014-12-09 00:45

Good concept.

nobuyoshi 2014-12-09 00:51

Interesting. But, a little bit confusing.

rantt 2014-12-09 00:52

Cool concept, the lights switching off made grabbing the coins tricky. I liked it, nicely done.

srakowski 2014-12-09 04:13

Hard to find things in the dark! :) Like the idea though.

andresgames 2014-12-09 04:43

@srakowski, thats kind of the point :D and the coin has a beacon on it to make it easier!

jaymfernandes 2014-12-09 07:27

42 coins later, a pretty interesting game. Seems easier with certain random layouts and I wish that jumping was a little less "floaty" coming down, but I had a lot of fun trying to grab the coins before time ran out!

boltz-game-studios 2014-12-09 07:28

I like the idea. The problem was with the random platforms you can't always get to the coin. Also the intro banner telling you it's about to start sometimes hides platforms that you need to memorize before the lights go out.

alsweigart 2014-12-09 07:35

Good concept, though the gameplay was kind of confusing.

andresgames 2014-12-09 08:01

@JFern, nice job on the 42! Yeah I'm going to work on the layout generation a little, maybe making some always be a certain height to address the problem of not being able to reach certain coins.
@Bolt - You are right about the banner, will consider making it see through or smaller.

@AlSweigart or anyone who thinks gameplay is confusing more info on why would help me address this issue later on! thanks for the feedback guys!

Awesome concept. I don't really like random placement of the platforms. Wouldn't it be better, if there was some predefined patterns to randomly choose level's layout?

bobismijnnaam 2014-12-09 18:08

I got to 25 coins! Pretty fun game, it's mostly pretty balanced unless the field changes when everything is black, and when you finally get to see what the map looks like it's already impossible to get to the target with the time left. The jumping mechanic is *very* weird in the beginning but once you get used to it it becomes useful.

andresgames 2014-12-09 19:20

@rzuf, thanks for the input. I think I will end up doing what you said and saving ~ 50 different layouts.

@bobismijnnaam, The field doesn't change when it goes black. Only time it changes is on retry. It's partially a memorizing game.

zompi 2014-12-09 20:44

Cool, but remembering the platforms position isn't that necessary. I got 31 just by randomly jumping ;)
Anyway, concept is cool, and that groovy music!

nine-baobabs 2014-12-09 22:37

Very neat concept. I got a pretty nice/lucky platform layout and managed 57. It was probably my third or fourth attempt, the first few tries I wasn't sure what was going on. Oh, liked the music as well, very chill.

My ideas for making it a little less confusing would be:

-wait a little more before turning off the first lights (my thinking here is to let the player get a coin or two and get used to the controls / room layout)

-maybe try turning off just one to start with, then two, etc. this might help communicate to players that the lights are going out

-fading out the lights just a little over time as they go out might also help with this

-a little dithering affect on the edges might give the player another clue that the black represents darkness (i'm thinking warcraft 2 fog of war here for some reason).

-maybe when hitting something in the darkness, you see an edge appear or a little effect to let you know you hit something (a simple way might be to just show like a shadow of the whole platform for a split second).

-one frustration point for me was waiting for my guy to land (either floating down onto a coin or onto a platform so I could jump again), I seemed to spend most of the few seconds available on each coin just waiting to land..

Just some ideas!

I like the premise of having to remember the layout and navigate it in the dark. Also the idea of encouraging a little friendly competition was ingenious :) Hope you iterate on this one a few times. Good luck!

andresgames 2014-12-10 10:13

I have worked on it quite a bit. Thanks for all the feedback guys! The more I hear back the better I can make it. Didn't think the floating thing was a big deal until I changed it. I got into the 100's because of that (also the powerups I implemented). Since this will be releasing on mobile I thought the eye was a bit small to keep track of so I have the area around the player is always visible. Kind of like a fog of war.

I also changed it to not turn lights off until a few seconds after the start of the round.

Ice power-ups and Light power ups. Really excited to see where this can go. Thanks for the input and keep em coming!

Enjoyable, and pretty clever! Good use of theme, interesting spin on memory puzzles. I think a gradient-based light source (or even a full 3d-rendered light) would have made the "lights going off" idea clearer. Great job!

jpmit 2014-12-12 19:21

Great game, well done.
