I like the idea a lot; there's a lot of potential here. The sonar UI is really cool, and I like how rhythmic the sonar beeps are. Since the tutorial doesn't start until you hit the Down button, it's somewhat confusing as to what you're supposed to do at first. I'm not a huge fan of the sea life being only kind of visible; I feel like you have to go all out and either make us rely entirely on the sonar, or give us full visibility without blur. I would have liked to see power as a bar instead of as text. Similarly, I thought the bottom row of text was the most recent, and thought the text indicator was bugged for a bit; flashing the most recent entry in some way could fix that

I liked the mood and the feeling of being in that little compartment and how I could/needed to look around before choosing a direction to go. The harpoons were a nice touch and in general very well made game. I would suggest easing up on the story, especially that early on when there's a want to just look around and see what's out there. Or trying to record it and have it play out. Or break it up into smaller parts. I didn't really figure out the sonar, and perhaps the treasure should have been giving off a beep or something (maybe only per distance). So you had a sense of where to go. In general it felt like the world was a bit too vast for the content and so maybe setting it inside some trench or cave system to limit the mobility. Or increase the distance traveled by each click. In general very well made game though, and the way it is constructed, I am surprised you did not have a VR version for it.

Nice atmosphere. Intersting concept. But I have no idea how to find the treasure.

That sound design was wonderful! Everything had real wight to it, the ambient sound, light noise and voice lines all seemed heavy and even a little scary! It was in desperate need of something interesting to look at, maybe an underwater cave or actually seeing the octomutants, but still great job.

P.S I saw you had audio problems with my game, want to give it another try? I have fixed them! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/plasma-arena

Solid game! Really liked the environment and mood set by the characters interacting with you, and having an immersive environment all around you to interact with. Having both lights and sonar also made it feel a lot more engaging.

It was a little difficult to actually keep track of where the treasure was, or generally where I actually was (the position updater helped, but still didn't mean too much to me since I couldn't really visualize it), but that also kind felt like it was a point of the game so I don't see it as like a HUGE negative point.

Very cool

The game was very atmospheric! The graphics and sound, especially the sonar, created a great mood for the game. It did feel like exploring a dark underwater world.

For later improvements, some additional waterlife or underwater features might be nice, the world felt a bit empty.

The humor was pretty funny and odd as well.

>Gone treasure hunting, >in the oppressive dark depths. >...OCTOMUTANTS! **squish**

Really good atmosphere, creepy as hell. The sub was cool, I liked having all the controls there in the actual environment and having to turn to use them made things more tense. The sound design was great too. Well done!

The story didn't really do anything for me though and was delivered in a really awkward way compared to the rest of the game.

Fixed the white dot problem on my game: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/plasma-arena

Excellent entry! Some solid atmosphere, feels suitably claustrophobic.

Really cool atmosphere ! The concept is really cool, the art is awesome and the sounds works well. Just one thing ... the dialogs skip too quickly x) I did not have the time to read x) Congrats though :)

Amazing game i can see why so many have voted very nice atmosphere love it!

kev-adsett 2017-08-09 12:55

Hey, I played this game for approx 25 minutes.

The audio gave a solid sense of foreboding atmosphere.

It took me some time to understand the information the sonar was giving me, but I understood it in the end. I had started to take damage, before realising there was even a baddie upon me.

The story wasn't for me, the drug references, the unnecessary Russian expletives. Not my cup of tea.

I never felt any requirement to press any button other than down. I had no reason to make any other directional choice. All I was told that the treasure starts beyond depth 45, so I just kept going down. I felt pretty powerless to change the outcome.

I didn't know how to find the treasure, or how to improve my chances of finding the treasure.

Overall it was an interesting graphical interpretation of what would usually be a text adventure.

As most said, other than the story, great atmosphere. Sounds and graphics really conveyed that "stuck deep down in the ocean with creepy things" feel. I did feel it was a little too ambiguous as to how to accomplish the goal of finding the treasure, though.

simonhutchinson 2017-08-09 23:38

Really nicely done. This is a really inspired idea executed really nicely. It does feel a little hard to figure out, but it's super fun to float around and encounter the beautiful sea creatures. Really nice work.

I can't rave enough about this. Shit had me geeking. I like how you gave these dimitri and dude characters such a rich personality. They really motivated me to keep on playing. Literally loled at almost everything coming in from dude, especially when he spilt the water lol. Gotta say I love the 3d graphics too. This game would be great in a VR environment. Nice job.

dino-jr 2017-08-11 20:38

That's a really nice game, I enjoy a lot the game and have fun, but didn't find the treasure haha, nice work

ddsfloko 2017-08-12 02:35

I have no idea how to find the treasure xD. This game looks have more potencial in a VR experience. Nice job man. :D

waveform-modulations 2017-08-12 04:30

I liked the interface, the sonar system reminded me of Elite: Dangerous. The verbal reactions where amusing. Audio was atmospheric and well fitting.

faulkin 2017-08-12 20:10

Great job with the graphics and sound, really sells the idea of exploring the abyss! I didn't understand how you are supposed to find the treasure when you get to the bottom though, maybe there was some clue I missed.
