2am - am burning the midnight oil for Ludum Dare!
Almost done! Last minute push!
Love the rhyming :)
The music was goog, the collision boxes in the menu was a little off :P not really my favorite game style but good work on the job :)
This game is really pretty to look at, and the music fits perfectly too (why opt out of audio rating by the way?)
Fun! I definitely enjoyed the experience for a quick run, but like others have said, it's just not my style. The music was good. The game was cohesive. If I had to change anything it would be to ramp up the difficulty over a longer period of time as it hit overwhelming too quickly.
Your gameplay is innovative, and although it's quite simple, in the end it still feels "out of the box". But what I enjoyed the most is the rythm! It gives the game some life with all that bouncing UI. There is a small graphical bug where a laser is "cut" horizontally, at about 1/3 of the screen's height. Of course a few sprites could have been better than squares and triangles, but not everybody is an artist obviously :) Well done !
I had a really hard time convincing my antivirus that your game was not going to set my PC on fire :D Well, what can I say? Nice audio, good visuals and the gameplay is simple, yet challenging. Good work ^^
Trippy little game :) It does get a bit hard cuz too many come! But Its fun, I think a lot more could be done. Overall great music and simple art style. All the best :) Pls feel free to play and rate my game: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/split
Hi @iamtalin, had to opt out of the audio rating because I wasn't the creator of the music - the real heroes were the guys who published those songs royalty free on their sites - what champs! Syncing the beat of sprites to the music was a challenge...glad you liked it :)
Thanks to everyone who's given feedback so far! This has been great! I've had a night of gaming, and will continue tomorrow. Playing cool games all night is a tough job...but someone's gotta do it ;)
Neat, this is really well executed! :) Thanks for making this! Love the audio-visual integration of the whole thing! Also, the tutorial works perfectly, and is something I will steal ;)
I found the movement of the beams a little fiddly - wish they moved slower or more fluidly. Also, the dark beam seemed kind of thin.
Nice game:D I really like the cocncept everythings work nice!
I like the concept a lot, and it is certainly pretty. But I felt like I had very little control over the things happening on screen. I think that simply better 'level' design will fix that. A lot of "bullet hell" games (which this is sort of an inversion of) will have a discernible patterns to the bullets and so the player can plan their movements with precision. You should maybe do that sort of thing here.
The music and graphics was really good. The idea was fun, but the gameplay needed a bit of polish. The tutorial idea was okay, but there was too much text. Overall a good game.
Gameplay was quite unusual. Controlling two beams definitely presents a fair bit of challenge. I liked graphics - they were simple, yes, but nice and clear.
P.S. Never ever ever ever ever ever do an unclosable timed screen on exit. That's just plain rude.
Interesting game. It was a little bit irritating, that tutorial doesn't give you much time to read all of the tips and just throws the enemys at you. But their behavior is kinda self explanatory, so it's not a big deal. The gamplay is engaging and soudntracks makes it really energetic.
Cool game and mechanics, and it looks simple but really good! Some sfx sounds would be a great addition to this great game!
Hey, thanks to all who played/viewed/reviewed my game so far! Helped me hit the 20, and I really appreciate it :) Hope more people get a chance to play/review it, but we'll see!
Hard game play!!! Good entry!!! In the beginning i dont understand the gameplay but after it became challenger! Good Work!
Hey mate good entry on this all shenanigans really liked the game and having a tutorial the way you did was a very nice touch but like @jk500 said it had a little to much text at times. Aside from that good game quite hard but pretty fun
the music is awesome but I only get a black screen and no game at all :/
Hi @hisfantor, sorry to hear about your experience man! I found that the game would often have a black screen on start up for about 5 seconds or so, but if the screen was like that for you permanently, I don't know could have caused the problem. Sorry man! Thanks for trying it out anyway
Wow, this is superb! Totally unique gameplay and very well communicated - I knew exactly what I had to do after going through the tutorial, I just had very little chance of successfully doing it. Groovy music too. Fantastic work!
Sorry man this games doesn't run on my PC. I just see a black screen and hear music. I can click on stuff and the music changes but it's just black.
Hi @cg-fred and @hisfantor, I just uploaded an updated version to the itch.io site which should (hopefully) fix the issue you guys were talking about. This issue only happened on certain pcs: Anyway, no pressure to test, just wanted to let you know. If these changes worked, it will help others who haven't tried the game yet, so thanks for your feedback!
@blakemcdeezy yeah it works, thank you :)
Very interesting game. My main complaint is that when you get two light beams a little too close together, it DRASTICALLY increases the difficulty, particularly of the squares (since it takes so long to get them to turn). Sound was killer, game was fun, and the idea was innovative. Graat job!
Bem interessante e criativo, da até uns bugs no cérebro jogar isso xD
Ta de parabéns cara, não tenho nem nada a acrescentar. hehe
Really cool finish and mechanic; I can see myself playing more of this, but the increased difficulty on touch is a bit arbitrary; even if it fits the theme it is not very satisfying, and there is no way to decrease the number of beams ? Anyway, a strong basis for a game with a few gameplay tweaks !
That's a great idea! Simple but fun, and is challenging at the same time. If I must say, I prefer to control one of the lasers with mouse. I always get confused when both my hand is doing exactly the same thing.
Easy to get but hard to master. The tutorial was a nice addition to the game but what was the "boum" though ?. Good job :)
Phew, what a tough game. A very unique and awesome concept. I personally really liked the added touch of graphics pulsing with the beat of the music. Very well made game, congrats!
Thanks for the feedback/comments guys! This has been really useful and cool. Hi @kerdelos, the boom clears all shapes from the screen - if you see if floating around, and bring it to you by controlling its direction with the dark beam, then you can 'press K to BOOM'
Love this game! Graphics could be a bit more refined but that's a nit pick. The overall aesthetic suits the game very well, and you utilize the mechanics introduced as well! Adding more light beams increases difficulty and pairs well with the "more shapes is bad" idea. Also the music is lovely. Great job!
I love the concept, it's so well done. It get's super hard when you get multiple ligth beams, but that's the point. The text and thingy beating at the rhythm of the music are nice, but it doesn't really affect the gameplay. The squares were the one that always got me. Hate them.
I love your game, awesome job man.
this was so fun!
This is an awesome fun little game, everything feels great and is mostly polished. Actually spent a little while playing the game trying to get better, but i simply just suck. The tutorial was a very nice addition. Without it i would've just dropped the game immediately out of sheer clueless-ness (not a word but kinda makes sense).
Anyways the game did miss a couple of things though. Sound effects, this would've been a great addition to the game if you were able to pull this off, examples could have been sound when hitting shapes or sounds when hovering and selecting buttons (doesn't change any mechanics but would've made things feel better).
Another thing to consider would have been the difficulty curve. The game contains a lot of shapes to remember (to a new player), so the game becomes difficult very early which makes the game harder to learn/master. I made the same mistake in my past Ludum Dare for the game The Last Standing Sentinel (https://tyranosaw.itch.io/the-last-standing-sentinel). I got to used to the mechanics and the game became easy to me, so i designed the waves that seemed easy to me. What was easy to me was insanely difficult to a new player. That was the lesson that i learnt in that game and it should be one that you learn for this one as well.
All in all, this is a huge achievement, Congratulations!
I was absolutely not expecting that kind of game! I prepared myself to play another of those speed avoiding game (and to lose after few seconds), but I discovered a slow strategic game, with challenge and reflexion. Good job, I like to be surprised!
Great game. The gameplay is fun and challenging. Really good graphics. Good enemy variety. I think that would be good if the beams had a smoother acceleration to make it easier to control (especially in small distances).
Really nice to not be all about speed :)
Solid abstract action game with some innovative ideas: the different beams and how they affect the shapes, that is. I really like the multiplying shape, too bad it is not used more.
Got to around 3500 points and didn't immediately wish to play again. I think the difficulty ramp up could be faster and the wave resets should be removed. The initial, boring, circles-only wave kept coming back for no good reason after losing a life (and maybe even when using a boom, can't remember).
The graphics are simple and effective. Particle effects in moderation would fit as long as not obscuring the action. The mood is care-free and funky, yet a bit all over the place due to the large variety of tunes.
Great work. Will try it again from the top later. For me trying not to get hit at all is the most interesting bit here.
