Thanks for getting in contact with me after your build went up. It was worth coming back for this one. This looks like a runner, plays like Guitar Hero, and is probably the most polished game I've played so far. I'm not huge on rhythm games, but I stuck through it on this one and beat the whole game. A little disappointing that 'C10' didn't have some sort of victory screen, but hey, it's a jam right?
Very pretty game. The controls are pretty good, even though the game gets repetitive after a bit. Still, great job!
Really really good! I can't go after the 7th checkpoint it's too hard for me xD I like the Bit Trip Runner-like gameplay, simple but effective! And the OST is awesome :O Too bad the music is desynchronized after few seconds :/
Good job! :D
Great job, I really like that rhytm game-platformer vibe, but I also have problems with it. It kinda helps to ger in the flow in the beginning, but then, for example past the 7 checkpoint, it's just unfair to the player in the way that music actually confuses you on what to do next. It plays all the same sounds but expects you to react differently and it's mind-boggling. Music is great and scenery is great, I am just sad I couldn't get past level 7 :)
I like art and animation, but.. I don't know, mb it's not fun enough(
But that style is really interesting)
Let me start with this: The at style is amazing! I love everything about it!! But at its heart, this entry is just a very basic runner game. I think you can make this way more interesting, if there are enemies, or other factors in the scenery above, that affect the gameplay in the undergound tunnel(?).
Great stuff! Love the quality of the art
Love this genre and your game amazed me, I found it great on every aspect... and what an amazing sountrack! One of my favourites so far, great job!
The musics and art are impressive, but not much fun... All in all nice game
This was cool! It's a simple runner with some neat paralax going on, it took a few runs before I noticed the progression but I did really enjoy it when it showed up! I feel like you might want to include a more clear metric for this like a distance counter or something that lets the player know they're progressing. Good job!
I fully expected not to like this game and went in with that thought in my mind. Then, half an hour later, I'm beating it because I was having a blast and didn't want to stop until it was over. Although it's a pretty basic runner game, the thing that did it for me was the music syncing with the game so well. VERY good job both with the soundtrack and level design, as they played together very nicely, overall. The only place where this didn't work right was C7 and, because of that, it was my roadblock for a while. I almost quit at that point, but did eventually get past it and everything went back to feeling right after that. I'm not sure what exactly was wrong with that level, but it just felt off and that was causing me to miss button-presses. But,, that was a blip in an otherwise great game. I was very impressed with this one, I can't say that enough.
This is a great entry. Not every game needs to be innovative and have monsters and whatnot, some games, like this one, are just great examples of a certain category of games. Music was great, obstacles could have had a bit more contrast vs the background but otherwise fine. This game is great just the way it is. Well done.
I did need a moment afterwards recovering from my brain thinking that everything moved to the left ;)
Good game!
The audio is great!
The graphics are so pretty. The only criticism I could possibly offer is that... they're too good, I feel so bad not looking at them while I'm playing! :-O
I thought the obstacle that you jump over blends in a lot with the background. Caused me to run into it a lot. Would it be possible to make it stand out a bit more?
Overall this is a great entry. Good job!
Nice graphic. Liked sound and sfx's. Hard, but i like it too. Good job!
I enjoyed myself a lot with this one. The controls and frame-based animation feel very solid and polished. The obstacles are well spaced out and the game feels fair. One thing that could use improving is the fail state, right now your mistakes stack and after 3(?) hits you restart the zone. I feel like this could have been time based, so your mistake in the beginning of the zone doesn't make the end impossible.
I thought I was collecting the white circle things for the first 30 seconds and when I "missed one" was all like "Nooo! Now I'm going to lose power!" only to find out that's just part of the BG and I'm escaping the darkness. lol Nicely done :D
Nice, this is awesome! I love rhythm games. The music here is really great, the graphics are solid, and the gameplay is fun.
I think the main issue here is that the connection between the obstacles/player action and the rhythm is not always 100% clear. For example, at first I didn't realize you had to press the button for smashing through the glass about half a beat before you actually hit it - I missed a bunch of them before I realized this timing, and the fact that the sound happens after the button press timing threw me off a bit in the harder levels. I think having some sound play right when you actually press a button might make this connection clearer in the player's mind. (I realize that having obstacles with animation lead-up is a difficult problem to solve in rhythm games; we ran into this same issue in Super Kaiju Dunk City.) Once I got used to the rhythm & was able to make the connection between the music and my actions (kind of retroactively), it got a lot more fun.
Like others, I thought the obstacles you had to jump over blended into the background a bit too much so I missed a few of those. Also, for some reason I thought the lights were obstacles at first, but the fact that they indicated the beat helped later on. The difficulty progression was pretty good, though it started out a bit too easy (again, hard to feel the rhythmic connection there) and it got really hard around C7. That you can only miss a handful of notes before dying is pretty unforgiving. Also the game almost felt like it was faking me out sometimes, like there would be a clear repetition of a pattern that went along with the music then it would change suddenly which threw me off. I died 5-10 times apiece on 7-9 but I did beat it! And then my vision got all wonky and I thought everything was scrolling left! Yay! :P
All in all this was a really great experience, I loved the music and it was a great challenge, it just needs some gameplay tweaks to really bring it over the top. Awesome work! :D
Nice game!
I agree with most comments above. Obstacles don't match the music flow too much for a music game. Feels like a regular runner, with good music and art. Also, it would be nice to have a score or time so you know you're making some kind of progress, other than the levels themselves.
And I hate myself for this comment, but it would be nice that the lower part of the screen (the one in where you actually play) changes as the background does. For me at least, I couldn't help but staring at the beauty of the mountains and forests, just to look back to the same old of corridor. Then again, it's a 72h game.
Other than that, the game might not be innovative, but it is really fun and well made. And the art and audio are amazing!
Great work!
Kinda nostalgic for games like Vector. Thx a lot! Please rate our game too https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/answer-me
