Simple to play, but really challenging. The game is fun to play, but gets a bit too hard too fast, for me atleast.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD40 → Fleet Commander

Cool idea, I love the control simplicity.
Your game Fleet Commander is a really cool idea and really puts the theme of “The more you have, the worse it is”, into a really cool game. I enjoyed the game a lot and the fact that you have to strategically maneuver around other ships is really cool.
Pros: - The audio is cool and reminds me of old retro games - The concept is really cool
Cons: - There is no tutorial so it takes a while to understand the rules
Overall this was a really nice game and you should be proud of what you achieved. :)
My fleet was 20 at the end!
I liked simple and understandable game mechanics. Sound was good as well.
I love games like this. The warning I get before something crashes into something else (per sound and visuals) is amazingly. The pressure I have when multiple ships are deciding to commit suicide is beautiful.
Here is some constructive criticism: (its only my humble opinion, take it if you want)
I think the warning sound is to loud compared to the other sounds (just a little bit).
There was a lot of pressure on the player at the right times, but I think the game could stretch out for longer. Giving the player more space (wider screen) when he collects a green thing, would give the player a big reward (prolonged play and more "power"). Also that could make the early part of the game faster (the game would probably start with a smaller screen). The game could get harder over time, then the player would try to collect the green orbs as fast as possible. Maybe they dissapear if he takes to long, which would add to their value.
Thanks for making this game, I enjoyed playiing it!
Idea of this game is fitting the theme just perfectly and gameplay is simple, but really fun. I like it.
This game is pretty awesome! I like the stress idea. For tweaking i would love to try a version where the whole game moves a bit faster, because it gets a bit stale, especially in the beginning, to having to wait for the ships to collide. Maybe a speed up button? Also, the game very quickly ramps up the difficulty. That might be alright, but it could be something to consider going forward. Overall i like this game, and would love to see it polished more.
This is a very good idea and the implementation is also neat. The warning sound and yellow feedback really bring a lot to the game and the gameplay is intuitive.
A simple and effective design. Inspirational simplicity in fact, got a related design rolling around in my head now.
The graphics are plain and functional. The audio is similar yet I find the alarm sound somewhat irritating. It doesn't help that it plays all the time. The alarm system itself is a very nice addition. I would prefer to be able to pause time (with space) when things get heated, but that is not a negative.
The play session starts off slow as the level initially has no cubes or asteroids. Just a few cubes to aim for would help there. Additionally the amount of ships rises very fast, very soon. 20+ ships isn't a challenge, it is impossible.
The fast progression is a result of the somewhat weird ship building system. When a ship collects a cube it disappears and two more ships are spawned from the planet. This doesn't make a lot of sense.
What I'd do is to spawn a single ship when a cube is collected and, of course, keep the original ship intact. This way the amount of ships stays manageable for much longer and ships cannot be sent on suicide missions any-more.
Good idea and execution. More play-testing and polish would have gone a long way.
Overall: *Above average (3.5)* Fun: *Above average (3.5)* Innovation: *Great (4.5)* Theme: *Great (4.5)* Graphics: *Average (3.0)* Audio: *Below average (2.5)*
I love it! The simplicity, the controls, the graphics. It's wonderful. I'd love to see this game expand, maybe a scrolling screen, other enemies. It's very good (:
That was incredibly cool and simple ! It reminds me (a bit) to [Begin 2 - Tactical Starship command]( http://hallert.net/misc/begin/begin.html) Good job ! (And I'd love to see more evolved version of this !)
i like the controls they are soo simple and responsive :) The sound with the circles are a really nice polish indeed And most importantly, the game was fun
For future updates beyond the LD40, you can add power ups, and multiple planets to start from
Oops, I don't know how to delete this comment.
Simple, yet fun. I really enjoyed trying to handle a bunch of ships at the same time. The alarm sound, although slightly annoying, felt right because it made me pay attention every time. Maybe a little quick on the difficulty spike.
This is the best entry I've played so far. If Mini Metro, Flight Control and Osmos had a baby, this is what it would look like. Super simple to grasp, yet really challenging.
I also love the graphics style: minimalist, but still pleasant to the eye.
Same goes for the sound effects: simple, but effective. Some ambient background music would really round it off.
It could make a great tablet game if the controls were single-button (tap to select, tap to steer, which also unselects).
Excellent job!
Really nice game. Loved how you used the theme!
I just wish there was a way to control multiple ships at once (like boxing in an RTS) or that the ships would home in when sent to an objective (like a box).
Really like the warnings, the pacing was perfect and the sounds and graphics fit really well together. Congratulations!
And thanks for the Linux build!
Simple and very challenging. I'm affraid to be bad at this kind of games, and I managed to get only a 9 ship fleet
Pretty cool. It's easy to understand but challenging to execute as the fleet grows. I reached 12 ships before two of my ships collided.
This was a great use of the theme. I'm also now 100% confident I am glad I didn't go into the aviation flight control field. I'm not good at these sorts of things.
It starts slow, so I'd second the 'having a few cubes to start with' comment. The difficulty ramps up quickly, which I kind of like too. Though that means it also quickly becomes unmanageable.
Cool idea, I liked the simple graphics and sound, and the controls were good. However, I think having more than three ships to start with might have been a good idea, because of the slow start. Even so, good idea and use of theme!
