Clean design. Maybe an animated character next?

robstao 2020-04-20 01:19

Do the controlls change every 5 seconds of gameplay? The gameplay was really hard.

crispy-chicken 2020-04-20 02:47

The Controls are quite difficult to use. Maybe instead of turning the character, the character should simply move in the direction pressed. Sort of like isometric games.

tomeks 2020-04-20 02:54

Its quite challenging, I think would be easier to control with directions based on view rather than player orientation, unless that was a part of the challenge, in which case mission accomplished. Solid effort for just 2 days.

romaric 2020-04-21 22:05

For me it was easy to understand (the controls), graphics are not bad bu I would made it more lighter :) I like the gameplay and the idea is simple but good. For a first Ludum Dare congratulations it's very good !

whatnamegames 2020-04-23 04:44

Awesome work for what seems to be your first entry, great job.

ghast-neoh 2020-04-23 04:44

I like the graphics! Congrats on finishing.

dob 2020-04-23 04:45

Interesting game. I had a little trouble figuring out the movement (arrows were rotation and thrust rather than cardinal directions), but once I did, I could play OK. The levels were fun, and the dropping floor was an interesting mechanic that made it a lot more tricky to win. The exit button crashed the game, although that's not a big deal. Nice work on this.

morandigame 2020-04-23 04:45

Pretty amazing for the first entry! Also my first time making a game. Love to know what you think of my entry~

jani-penttinen 2020-04-23 04:46

As others have said, the controls were quite hard to grasp. I would have assumed that the character goes to the direction of the arrow, since there are only four directions to go. Trying to figure this out, I dropped down way too many times. Sometimes right at the first square, which made it quite tricky to get going again. Still, fun game, overall a positive surprise!

matthewi 2020-04-23 04:47

Sometimes it seemed like I was over the key, and it didn't pick up? I found myself dying a lot just because I had to backtrack. Overall, cool concept!

terristen 2020-04-23 04:47

The controls were very unpredictable, and seemed to fail to work a large portion of the time. It was unclear if this was some kind of game mechanic or a bug. I suspect you may be testing for input in the wrong time-phase and thus losing some inputs. As a first Jam entry I really do commend you. There are gems of a good game in this idea. The graphics style was clean, which is a good choice for a puzzle game. Glad I played it!

havok06 2020-04-23 04:51

I had a lot of trouble with controls. Hitting left and right seemed to turn the character, but the direction of turning seemed to be random. I did not manage to do all levels because of this.

conroy 2020-04-23 04:51

Pretty good game, the controls were a bit weird to get used to, for me it seemed like a tile would disappear really fast right off the start but never disappear again after that. Good job on your first jam!

scalphamission 2020-04-23 05:01

Enough people have mentioned the controls to where I'll lay off. I bet it feels good to make a game from start to finish though, eh?

xmatos 2020-04-23 05:02

Hi, Congrats on your first LD! Unlike others, I really didn't mind the controls, maybe there should a tutorial area where the ground doesn't get destroyed so the player can get use to it, or maybe the character could be a car, so it would make the turnung mechanic more intuitive. Good work and have a nice day.

rojola 2020-04-23 17:10

This was awesome! :D I had fun trying to get hang of the very particular controlling scheme. My brain was constantly on the edge of complete failure and misery, but so nicely balanced there that it was also fun all the time. There really should be more levels in this, but other than that I feel that the game should stay as it is. Great gem!

raphaeltan 2020-04-24 08:33

Good idea, but the controls are a bit wierd sometimes i press left or right and nothing happens (I think you used getkeydown on a fixedupdate, or my keyboard is broken :)) lacks music but meh who cares nobody has the time.

bajtix 2020-04-24 08:42

The controls were hard to understand. Otherwise great game and i liked it, altought it lacked levels.

baconn00 2020-04-24 10:58

I think its a bit hard to control the character, but overall is ok. Good entry

brain-in-a-bowl 2020-04-24 13:06

I found the controls a intuitive enough, but sometimes the keypresses register multiple times causing a turn to be 180 degrees instead of 90 degrees. Still a fun and nice-looking game.

cirno 2020-04-25 00:16

Welcome to your first participating in LD. The control is different from familiar ways but it also provides some feeling of challenge. Keep up with good work!

louis-denizet 2020-04-25 08:38

It took me some time to understand the controls even though it became pretty logic once I understood but I felt like sometimes it was a bit unresponsive maybe? I think it is a decent entry for the theme!

nathant 2020-04-25 08:49

The controls were interesting. I noticed you can sometimes stand between tiles so that they would not disappear. Liked the music and the clean art style. Easy to understand. Good jam!

thelemba 2020-04-25 16:51

tank control for isometric hahah, extremely short but fun, I beat the game!

jk5000 2020-04-25 19:50

The gameplay idea is simple and fun. I also really like the games music. I am not fan of the controls, but it not a big issue. Overall is this a okay little jam game.

100th-coin 2020-04-25 20:05

Ah man, The controls are pretty cool once you figure them out. I just wish there were more levels! Great game.

drskort 2020-04-25 20:06

I think the idea of this game was quite good but the controls were somewhat confusing for my brain ^^' The graphics were simple but solid and I really liked the sound effect. More levels would have been very cool but it was a solid short experience. Good Job :)

lukas-shiley 2020-04-25 20:07

Nice entry! As I'm sure you've heard a few dozen times now, the controls are a bit different. I found them challenging and unique. The models and levels looked nice and robot at the end was pretty cool. Quick game but very fun, I liked it!

jamieok 2020-04-26 20:40

I think the controls are good enough, maybe giving the player an in-game tutorial or demonstration would help with people's confusion. Fun gameplay, definitely has potential for more complicated puzzles. Audio is clean and the visuals work for the style of the game. Good job!

dedicave 2020-04-27 03:26

good game! I think the controls could be better, at first I had a hard time understanding how they were used. maybe with a background music it would have been more complete. well done.

jrap 2020-04-27 05:17

This game doe sa lot with a little! Audio is subtle but really well chosen, I also really like the presentation, from the little guy to the colors chosen to the viewing angle, sorta reminds me of a kookier 'TANKS!' in wii play, it has this toybox feel to it, hard to describe but very memorable.

ratrat44 2020-04-27 18:54

I actually didn't have much of a problem with the controls, but I feel like must people wouldn't like them. The game was quite fun!

boxedmeatrevolution 2020-04-27 23:08

Made it to the end! This game has a really unique feel and style. I'm not sold on the controls, but that's mostly because they felt unresponsive. I think the unique control scheme could work if it was polished a bit more. Unfortunately, at one point I had to restart because the block in front of the exit fell down  It might make sense to reset all blocks after death to prevent that from happening. Good entry!

tony-artz 2020-04-28 03:46

It's a great entry, the controls are quite hard and I have come across a bug where the tiles will no longer disappear. Other than that it's a really nice entry. The art style is also really great.

aryanjumani 2020-04-28 18:48

Really nice game! As others have already said the controls were a bit weird. Would recommend you to use Horizontal axis to move the player and not to Rotate the player. Also it would be a great update for you to use animation(use Adobe Fuse to make the player using the free trial and then export it to Mixamo to animate it as you want, in this case a running animation). Otherwise the audio and graphics were really nice. Also the game difficulty was not that high(I just stuck to walls where the robots and balls did not come very fast) so other levels could also have been added to make the difficulty higher and more competitive so players have real fun playing your game!

geojax 2020-04-28 18:58

Sometimes the arrow rotates 90 degrees in desired direction, sometimes it goes 180 degrees. That's really difficult when you can't be on a tile for too long, tapping until you're facing the right direction. Is something wrong in your code maybe? I would definitely finish the game if he rotated where I wanted him too, but sometimes he didn't.

gurbx 2020-04-28 19:04

Cool game! Liked the concept. Found the controls a bit confusing however. Was sometimes a bit hard to see what direction the player character was turned.

emperor-eagle 2020-04-29 10:55

Well done to you for your first Ludum Dare! Welcome and I hope you had fun! You have a completed and working mechanic and that has created quite a good game! It is reasonably fun and has well made graphics (nice particle effects too). I enjoyed it! I would recommend just polishing the controls, even getting others to see what works best and what feels the best for them. Also, more content. Five more levels would be the right amount for a jam, all with an additional mechanic like the robot enemy you've already included. It was great to see a menu with buttons, and the game is in a great (the core gameplay is finished) state to publish for a first jam. Some audio from the environment (the sound when the energy ball hits the well) and a theme song would be a great addition! But you've done a really good job of the base, its mainly just content quantity you have to work on (as you have a great start with quality)! This means your game has great potential and is already quite good as it is! Overall, really good first entry, and some more content would make it even better! Well done!

asfdfdfd 2020-04-29 19:56

Love your concept and visuals. But controls, man, they are hard.

puppetmaster 2020-05-01 23:24

cool game idea and well implemented, the control system has already been mentioned, welcome to the Ludum Dare community

disperse 2020-05-02 02:38

pretty hard but good. you could add more levels.

teamjs 2020-05-02 11:03

Hey nice work for your first! I appreciate that the arrow controls were a bit unconventional (with rotate and go rather than just go with the arrow keys), but the controllers were a bit buggy where it keeps turning 180 rather than 90 at a time, then randomly it'll decide to turn 90. I liked the fadey tile factor, added interesting element to the game play. :) - J

I liked the idea. Good choice for the perspective, and the core of your game was there. I could see this being a really interesting puzzle game I would really want to play! I found the controls hard, I would have preferred movement in the direction of arrows rather than the rotation idea. The difficulty level was good. I was disappointed when I finished the third level and there were no more. Make some more please, I wanted to keep playing and I was getting really into it! Great job overall! Congratulations on completing your first LD Jam! - S

bmacintosh 2020-05-02 20:38

Good job, I like this method of requiring the player to keep moving rather than standing still and waiting for threats to move. With time for some more thoughtful level design, it could be pretty compelling. The controls are of course difficult off the bat, but I was able to wrap my head around them shortly. As an alternative to changing the controls, the current ones might make more sense if the character was something that was actually limited in its ability to turn quickly, like a vehicle of some kind, rather than a person.

chaseplays 2020-05-12 17:53

This was a short but fun game! It was polished with simple but engaging mechanics, and I enjoyed my time with it! My only complaint is that turning sometimes didn't feel responsive, which made some of the levels more difficult than they needed to be. Overall, great job!
