that is a good game
I liked your game^^ Good utilisation of the theme, and, well, you're courageous to have done it from ground zero x) Honorific mention to the little shouts Nem's make while jumping x)
Note that there was a glitch on my side: sometimes, when entering a new level, the world was "shaking" from left to right for a few seconds, usually making the first run of a level unplayable :/
And this = best tutorial ever:

Great job! Interesting mechanics, love the backstory, nice music too. The only thing I would suggest is maybe the prompts/hints should be a bit clearer? Though on the other hand, I loved their goofiness / unseriousness...
Thanks for playing, everyone

@soarendev My apologies. I overlooked the camera might not meet the 'snap' condition on lower framerates. [This patched version should fix it](https://alaah.xyz/res/ld46-r2.exe).

@tadeas-paule That was my intent. My only regret is that the restart doodle might be difficult to interpret. If I make a post-compo version, I will add a floating text above her head whenever she's been crying for several seconds.
@alaah yeah good idea. The other mechanics were relatively easy to figure out just by experimenting, but that restart mechanic (which I loved the idea by the way), I don't know if I would've gotten it if I didn't read about it here on this page :D
The graphics and audio were excellent and it was really polished overall!
It's a brave thing to participate without an engine. I have two especially as well, but never tried to write a game with it. I'm not that brave. I appriciate your effort here. And the game itself (even letting the biased opinion set aside) is cool ;)
Got it running on a Mac with Wine + the VC runtime (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads).
The tutorials are hilarious but I couldn't figure out what it actually meant to restart. I tried clicking the player, but that didn't seem to work?
The audio is great.
Oh, and your adherence to the Theme is probably the best I've seen.
That level with almost all steel blocks... I couldn't beat that at all! Great game! Thanks for sharing.
The background music of this game is nice! It's great job to finish all the game in 48 hours. The levels are a bit difficult for me though.

Clicking (patting) the head three times does the trick, @jpv. I'm aware the drawing isn't clear enough and I apologize for that.
- The interpretation of the theme as "Keep I.T. alive" is quite clever. - After installing two versions of the redistributable and restarting my computer, I finally got the game working! - Love how Apples(tm) fall from the sky. - The graphics and music are really nice! - Although patting Nem's head is a cute way of restarting the level, doing it three times every time was a little tiring! One click would have been better. - Completion time: 13:11. That level with the one-high tunnel was definitely the hardest!
couldn't run the game  it looks fun though
@abdurrahman-khallouf Tried installing VC++ Redistributable?
Clever and intuitive to play, while really nailing the theme in a couple ways. A fun setup and the times I failed to keep them alive really felt like my fault. Will definitely echo the sentiment that this was super polished, too!
Cute
:purple_heart: :dart: :frog:
Nice game. Bonus points for rocking your own engine
Clever interpretation of the theme, nice audio and hilarious tutorials. I couldn't beat it but it was super fun to play, good job!
Love the idea and the hilarious premise. The instruction screen was my favourite of them all XD. Gameplay felt pretty polish too and the audio throughout the game was on point! Couldn't complete the game though, I was stuck at the level where there were 3 spikes separated by one block. My reaction time has failed me.
All in all, its a great game and I find it amazing you even made it with your own game engine in such a short time!
No Mac relase. :( it looks nice though!
@ldd It definitely runs on Wine; check out jpv's comment. I'm sorry, I don't have a Mac and prefer to avoid cross-compiling.
>Couldn’t complete the game though, I was stuck at the level where there were 3 spikes separated by one block. My reaction time has failed me.
@lapisraider There is an alternative path in that stage; it's even shown on the youtube thumbnail :innocent:
Great game, I like how it's a mix of quick events and a puzzle. It's not that obvious how to restart the level, I think you need to add an icon or something to do it. I was exiting the game and running it again the first couple of times before I read the description. I had a great time playing it. Nicely done.
Gameplay and controls were very intuitive, and the audio was great for this (music fit the mood, and the deep boom from the dropped spikes was satisfying).
A couple of notes on balance: The apples falling should not be random - sometimes it was impossible to complete a screen because I didn't have time to protect the character from apples *and* construct the necessary platforms to complete the level, and sometimes I did not have to worry about the apples at all because they randomly fell nowhere near Nem. Adding them in to give the player something else to worry about is good, but for this type of game, it should be in a consistent pattern.
Secondly, I really wished Nem would run back and forth when presented with uncrossable obstacles, to give me more time to build. One of the first levels required a 3, 2, 1 set of steps that I was barely able to construct in time (much less deal with the falling apples - I had to get lucky on that one). I would much rather have a little extra time, but have the puzzles a little more challenging. But maybe that is just me. I wasn't fast enough to get past the 4th screen or so; the timing on those falling spike barriers was just way too tight.
Making the game just a little more forgiving, at least in earlier levels, would make the game more fun and entice people to play longer. Despite those criticisms, very solid entry for a 48h jam, great job!
I get this error when executing the game in Windows 10: "The code execution cannot proceed because VCRUNTIME140_1.dll was not found"
@kkrac Please read the description
I beat it, but that took some osu-level mouse movement  Maybe a little hard for most people, also the apples being random and you having no time to pay attention to them meant that you just ignore them and hope for good rng most of the time
This game is adorable! Sorry I couldn't play it on stream. I love the unique mechanics of clearing the way for her too! The fact the block placement is impeded by the falling apples is annoying, I personally would have made it so that the apples just land on it and get destroyed, but idk if that would make it too easy. Great entry!
Amazing game, and looks like quite a lot of work too. I was really impressed by the music and sounds. The game was pretty hard at times, specifically there were two levels that I had to restart about 7 times to get them right. The head tapping is a nice touch, but I think it would be better if Nem somehow reacted to it and thus gave us feedback. I never knew if I tapped her properly. In many levels the falling apples just meant "there's a chance you lose, but don't bother". They were definitely a nice and funny addition, though. In levels where apples really mattered, guarding Nem from them was enjoyable, probably even more than building stairs or digging tunnels. Apart form that, you've created an interesting story, definitely one of the best I've seen so far.
Love the puzzles and pace of this game! You can tell a lot of work was put into the back end and it shows. You also have the longest name I've seen so, bonus points!!
Super cute game! The sound and music are excellent. I can't believe this is a compo entry! Excellent job!
Ok finally got to play this. The game is really fun and just amazing
Love the art work and music. And the mechanic is really interesting.
Bravo.
Really cool game! Engaging and fun to play! The puzzles were fun and not too hard. I would improve the reset level because it was a bit hard to click in the right place. Great job overall!
We didn't use a game engine either. :) LD is not just about putting together the fastest Unity demo possible, it is also about showing off what a good programmer can do!
Good game but I had promlems with restart the game :v:
Really well done!
Quite a lot of stages, but I had to give up on the big steel block with the small tunnel underneath. There's no chance for me to click that fast. Also, several times I clicked outside the window which usually means death. The restart should be something easier, I had to click way more than 3 times, esp. when I had a block on the cursor.
But other than that, really good; and also quite hard!
It was a really fun game, it was pretty difficult at times. The mechanics were interesting, though I wasn't a fan of how the apples falling from the sky occurred randomly because that didn't let me refine my strategy for each level. Also, I probably would've preferred it if the game restarted automatically when you die..
I don't know why, but running from right to left really weirded me out, lol. It was a really fun experience though, and I did love all the graphics and sound. The backstory gave me a giggle, too :)
Great job!
Fun game! not sure if its original, but for me it was first time I've played that sort of puzzle game. It was good, I liked the mechanics - the only criticism for me would be: - Controls - Randomised apple drops can make for inconsistent levels on each attempt
it's awesome that you did all this with just sfml. i really liked the humor, and you got me when it said "not done yet" ha. idk if it's cheating or just me being 'creative', but i beat some of the levels with the spikes by moving the blocks underneath them instead of lifting the spikes. i really wanted to beat it, but i think you need some god-tier micro skill to beat this one ha:

or maybe my hands are just too cold ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯ anyway, nice job!
