LD46 — Keep it alive (14)

Draguinho by Vini Explorer 2020-04-30T09:57:44Z ♥ 1

I liked the artwork and sound, they both worked really well!

The most annoying thing for me was when fruit fell on the ground, it hindered your progress when you tried to walk past it to get to more fruit. I ended up in an endless cycle of not being able to pick up fruit because I couldn't walk past the fruit that I'd missed because I hadn't been able to get to it in time due to not being able to walk past the fruit on the ground...

One thing that took me by surprise was the bandits that fell from the sky. I was thinking they would walk in from the sides, so that certainly shocked me, lol. My problem with the bandits was how fast they walked! When this was combined with the delay for shooting fireballs, it made killing the bandits without taking damage from them basically impossible.

A couple of design issues, but on the whole the game worked and the dragon was cute, so I'm happy :)

Antarctica Story by Nghia Lam 2020-04-30T09:49:39Z ♥ 1

This game looks FANTASTIC! Excellent job on the artwork, couldn't have done that better to be honest. I also really liked the platforming physics, they felt just right, but the controls were a bit of an issue for me.

Space and Z were an awkward combination, and when I'm using the arrows for moving left and right I like the up arrow also to be jump. Preferably, though, I would have used WASD to move because WASD + space is far far more comfortable.

Also, the difficulty curve was far too high in my opinion. A difficult dash through a small gap right at the beginning was definitely too much, especially with awkward controls to get the hang of.

Overall though, a great concept for the game and the artwork and physics were excellent. If it weren't for a couple of small design flaws then this would be such an excellent game. Fantastic effort!

Captain! Captain! by SuperGamersGames 2020-04-30T09:29:46Z ♥ 1

Once I got the hang of what you're actually meant to do, I loved it! A little more instruction at the start would be good, but by a few attempts I could properly control the ship and it got really fun! The art and sound were perfect, the game felt fantastic, but above all the mechanic of only being able to power one system at a time is excellent. Fantastic job! My only criticism would be that once I got to about half way, I spent almost the entire time charging the ammo or firing at enemies, and I wouldn't have any time to move forward and make progress and this did get frustrating after a while. In my opinion there are a bit too many enemies, especially for only halfway through. Maybe in the last quarter it could get ramped up to that difficulty.

Overall though, one of my favourite games so far!

Don't Kill, Wash Hands (First LUDUM) by Tom Kun 2020-04-30T09:17:24Z ♥ 1

I was struggling to understand what was going on. I was trying to make the bears go where I wanted them to go, but then I was never really sure if the bears were doing what I was wanting them to doing. With clearer audio or visual clues about what you're interactions were actually doing in the game, this game would be much clearer and a lot more fun as a result.

It's a really good concept, but just needs a bit more refinement on the execution perhaps. I did love all the artwork though - it looked great!

That Time I Crossed A Barren Desert To Protect&Care The World From Terrible Code by alaah 2020-04-30T09:10:01Z ♥ 1

It was a really fun game, it was pretty difficult at times. The mechanics were interesting, though I wasn't a fan of how the apples falling from the sky occurred randomly because that didn't let me refine my strategy for each level. Also, I probably would've preferred it if the game restarted automatically when you die..

I don't know why, but running from right to left really weirded me out, lol. It was a really fun experience though, and I did love all the graphics and sound. The backstory gave me a giggle, too :)

Great job!

The Spark by Le Don 2020-04-27T14:32:18Z ♥ 1

It was surprisingly exciting! Pretty challenging, and the running out of charge thing made it very intense. Great concept, I really like it!

I-jump-you-run by VL12345 2020-04-22T18:56:29Z ♥ 0

The most annoying thing for me was when Steve jumped, you could no longer see the ground to place more instructions, so you had a really small window of time to place the next instruction when he landed again! If the camera stayed in line with the ground I think I would've found this more enjoyable. Otherwise though, interesting mechanics and I did like your soundtrack!

Heart String by MZA 2020-04-22T18:52:26Z ♥ 1

Extremely unforgiving! Mistime your key press by a millisecond and you miss all the hearts and the key... Challenging game play, quite infuriating at times!

Save the Plant by burg113 2020-04-22T18:44:15Z ♥ 0

I do love procedural generation! I had a really good experience playing this. It was fun to explore for sun and water to keep the plant alive. It was pretty easy though - at no point did I have any challenge in getting past the enemies. All I had to do was walk around with left click held down and that was problem solved. A bigger challenge in terms of the enemies that I faced would've been great, and made the game more replay-able too. Very well done though, really enjoyable game!

Garden Royale by J_C - One Bit Studio 2020-04-22T18:34:23Z ♥ 1

A really good idea, just needs finishing off. Perhaps too large a scope for 3 days. If you'd left out the whole crafting side of it for the game jam, then it still would've been an effective concept but more achievable in the time frame perhaps. Still a fantastic effort though! I hope you keep on going with it :)

Bloody Musician by Filip Volf 2020-04-22T18:26:33Z ♥ 1

It was well polished, it looked and sounded great!

My main criticism is that it was really hard to see how my playing was influencing the effectiveness of my soldiers. I didn't notice that my queen was about to die until she was already dead... Some more audio feedback from the soliders and whatnot would really be good, you'd be able to tell whats going on in the whole game a lot better then.

Overall though, great effort and a very well executed game!

Space Station Techie: Keepin' It Alive by Galactic Chimp 2020-04-22T18:19:46Z ♥ 1

I love the concept, and the level structure was really great!

I felt that the difficulty curve was too steep. It felt like I was failing because the movement was too slow rather than because I hadn't mastered the controls yet, it made me lose motivation to keep trying to get better. Perhaps a greater time limit for earlier levels to let you get the hang of it a bit more at the start would make it more fun.

Also would love some audio to go with this - it would quickly be very atmospheric and cool! Great effort for a compo game though, very well done :)

PIZZA was plentiful and nothing hurt by niklasriewald 2020-04-20T18:13:44Z ♥ 1

Fun concept, but the controls are too slow for me to really get into it. In a game based on running and jumping, I just wish the controls felt more responsive and then I really would be hooked...

AetherPath by quichi 2020-04-20T17:42:07Z ♥ 0

With some polish and some sound effects this would be really damn cool!

That was so deep. Really got me thinking about life now... Such an incredible idea, amazing.

Regain Power by shp 2018-12-04T20:36:34Z ♥ 1

I'm the worlds pickiest person when it comes to platformer engines, and I really wish that the movement just felt tighter cause just now it feels like I'm floating along clouds rather than running along the ground. Some more sound effects would also make the experience that bit better, too.

Apart from that though; very impressive! I love the map, it looks great and the terrain is well designed :)

AI Robot Hoomsday by godsboss 2018-12-04T20:25:22Z ♥ 0

Very impressive puzzle levels, really had to think to work some of them out :P

Ants by shiqichuan 2018-12-04T17:08:36Z ♥ 1

Love this so much! Would really like to see this as a full game, it could be very atmospheric with some good music and sound effects :)

Hand Gone by trAsh 2018-12-04T08:09:54Z ♥ 0

I found it very confusing as to what was happening at first, there's not really any description for the goal of the game :P

I did like watching the fingers disappear though lol

A.I. Careers Advisory Service: Your Path To Success by garygreen 2018-12-03T22:42:39Z ♥ 1

Fantastic idea, I loved the summary of all the sacrifices at the end of the game.

My one criticism would be that it sort of felt like you were a by-stander to the story, that it was just narrating events and you didn't have that much impact on what was happening in the game.

Very clever idea though, and interesting design :)

Sacrifices must be made by TasakaSama 2018-12-03T22:32:42Z ♥ 1

I do love platformers! I liked how you left it to the player to work out what each type of character did, made it more of a challenge.

However, the platforming engine didn't feel quite right for me. The controls felt a bit too unresponsive and sluggish, if the movement felt a lot tighter that would make it a lot more fun.

Astronaut's Journey by Radical Dog 2018-12-03T22:24:08Z ♥ 1

Absolutely loved this, a bit of sound and it would be perfect!

Key Sacrifice by Marc Garcia-Penche 2018-12-03T21:47:23Z ♥ 1

Managed to do better on extreme than hard! Really tested my knowledge of the keyboard :P Love your idea! My screen looked very yellow after closing the game, I'd started seeing everything in pink lol!

Slime Venture by MRUniverse 2018-12-03T21:42:06Z ♥ 1

I think I ate a slime that shrank me too much and I disappeared? Not sure what happened but either way my player disappeared :P A bit more in the sound department would be awesome, and maybe some more texture variety and a background to make the graphics a bit more interesting. Also, 3500fps lol

Old Ways by Esosek 2018-12-03T21:38:29Z ♥ 2

My type of game, I really enjoyed running away from the green people. Something that would've really helped is some more sound effects, like footsteps or something just to complete the experience a bit more :)

Scard by DigitalLimestone 2018-12-03T21:18:09Z ♥ 1

Awesome game! A little bit more polish and it would be really great :) I recommend adding a little sound effects, it really helps with the experience. Even using really quick ones from programs like SFXR can make all the difference.

Chompymon by foolmoron 2018-12-03T21:13:20Z ♥ 1

Incredibly clever but extremely terrifying. I fed it the screenshot of my own entry and then decided to stop before I got carried away.

Dungeon 2.0 by TheMonsterFromTheDeep 2016-12-23T09:50:00

Awesome game, it did get really difficult after a short while. It looked great and had good mechanics, but what really annoyed me was the sound effect when they were burning in the fire cause it hurt my ears :b
