Nice touches of humor in the text at the beginning :) Game was a bit too easy for me, maybe you could lock the more advanced weapons at first? Or add more enemies? Graphics and sound were nice !
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD46 → Supermarket Showdown

Really nice game! It really feels like a complete game and it was fun trying to optimize the path customers would take. I wish there was a way to remove the barriers you've already placed. Here's my last day: Image 1.png
One of the best games I played so far! I'm impressed by the polish.
I liked the open layout of the supermarket where you can place the barriers because it adds a nice tactical element. But I would have liked if it would have been possible to remove the barriers because on my first try I didn't make a fully optimized layout and so made it only to day 15. There were also a few lulls where you did not have much to do but watch your defenses.
Great accomplishment though and big props for using python for this!
@zoglu Thank you! Progression and balancing was something that I struggled with - more types of customers sure would've gone a long way but alas I didn't have the time sadly.
Cool game with some nice style to it :) The difficulty ramps up a bit slow but it's still quite fun!
Great work on this, it's really fun! :)
Very good Art and sound, nice feel. I quickly manage to build unbeatable defenses and got super easy. I need more challenge. Good Job!
Very nice art for the game.
Great job on the game. I like tower defenses a lot. I do wish there was a fast forward button for the earlier levels.
@blotosaur Thank you for playing and I'm glad you enjoyed! Removing barriers is a feature I wished I'd added, but I didn't think ahead enough when I was making the system for placing barriers, and it all ended being a big mess of code - whoops.
@niklasriewald Thank you very much! Yeah, the removing barriers issue is my biggest regret about this...
@43sam I did find the progression a bit of a challenge, and it is definitely something that requires a lot more refinement... but thank you for playing and I'm glad you liked it :)
@the-jahn Thank you, I'm happy you like it!
@timetravelhamster Thanks! If only I'd added more customers and did some more work on the wave spawner... perhaps I spent too much time adding polish over features, who knows :P
@codingninjajoas Not a compliment I get very often lol! but thank you very much, it did turn out a lot better than I was expecting
@verrazano Yeah, the difficulty curve does need work....
The game is made very well but the gameplay gets stale fairly quickly. If you continue development, I suggest adding upgrades to turrets (or just more) since you end up with "the best" layout and there's nothing to change after that. Permanent upgrades that take away from salary could also work. Making it so you can change your boundary layout (my first playthrough I messed it up right from the start - making them all go straight through the middle (basically the fastest way)). Sometimes it restricts you from placing boundaries that don't actually stop the "customers" from getting to the exit which can be annoying but I'm not sure if this is intentional. The audio is good but I wish there was more variation. Also, I like to play games in fullscreen or at least maximized (I've never worked with PyGame so idk if that's possible with it so I didn't take that into account for my rating).
Day 15! I love grocery stores as settings. Building paths for a tower defense is fun, and I like that your decisions are permanent. I think the game would be better suited to levels, with an increasing armory and changing initial layouts. Well done as is.
@clayton-does-things Thank you for the feedback! I would have liked to add more ways to improve turrets etc to make the excitement last longer, but I did what I could in 48 hours lol. The inability to change barriers is something I wasn't happy about, but ran out of time to change it at the end. The restrictions on where you can place barriers should only happen in critical conditions, so it is interesting you experienced otherwise. I haven't seen this happen myself so that is peculiar!
@thedashdude I like your idea with levels! I think that would be a good route to take with further development. Thank you for playing :)
I appreciate the GameBoy colour palette :) Good entry!
Nice entry I last until the day 16. Once I had place all my barrier I did had much else to do and it become a bit boring at the end just watching the turret feed the customers. Also it's a bit weird but the turret does not target the customers the closest to the exit.
@nakami Regarding the turret targeting, the turret picks which enemy is closest to the turret, and I think you're right it probably should pick the customer closest to the exit.
This is a very fun game, and astonishingly complete and polished! I found a tiny bug: the healthbars are shown behind barriers if there is a barrier on the tile directly above a customer.
I wish I could remove the barrier to change their position! Nice game ! I made it till day 12.
Wow, really nice and polished game; amazing how much you got done in the short time! The difficulty curve felt a little off: I filled up every counter with a turret by day 8 or so, and then lost all my lives on day 11. That kind of thing is tricky to find during a jam though, and it didn't stop me form having a good time. The music and sound was nice, the story was amusing, and the art was simple, but attractive. Great game!
@derkuchen whoops, I didn't notice that one lol. Good spot!
@lookslikesomething me too but, I didn't wanna risk starting to code that in with 1 hour to go though... lol
@jonaspk thank you for your kind words! I did decide to focus on more features rather than fine tuning the balancing, and I settled on something that'd be good enough for jam purposes. Thank you for playing!
Greetings from the pygame community! It looks like your game does not work with the current SDL2-based development version of pygame 2.0 (it runs but it doesn't look right) so we'll use your game as a test case and get hacking!
Gameplay-wise, I think this is really good and reasonably complete, but I really wish it was a bit faster-paced and more difficult.
