reminds me of those old papas games. the moving seamed not to work like 70% nice art
@kingofnova Well dang it, I don't know what the problem is with the movement... I know it confused my playtesters that you have to *click* once to pick up, and *click* again to put down, so maybe that's it...? I was going after the Papa's Games sorta feel, so I'm glad it came through! >:3
Really cool, loved the music, a good feel of tension & a bright future of a sandwich maker ^^
@thiefaine Yayyy, I'm glad you liked it! I forgot to put it in the description before, but the music was generated by AI at Ecrett Music, just for clarification! :3 https://ecrettmusic.com/play
Oh okay good to know ! And for the double click action, at first you prefere to simple click but it's part of the fun & confusion to have to do it manually, so i liked it
@thiefaine I'm glad it worked out with the double click, because at first that was just a bug I experienced! XD
Wow! I'm pretty impressed by this game. Something fun I noticed is that I started out putting the ingredients nicely and in order, but as the line got bigger, I just started piling everything in the middle of the sandwich (much like a real fast-food worker would haha). The visuals are very nice as well, and the sound effects work well.
My only gripes would be that 5 minutes is too long for a game like this (that's 60 orders!) That being said, I did beat the game in a couple tries even though some people were left in line. I loved the humorous story telling.
One quality of life change I would suggest is putting the order in the top middle of the screen. Looking back and forth to the bottom right to see the menu can be very tiresome.
But all in all, well done! I really enjoyed it. Keep it up!
@jonathan-vinesar Thank you very much for the in-depth feedback!!! I'm glad you enjoyed it!!! I did do a few of those annoying things on purpose, to avoid the game being really easy, so you'll have to forgive me for that (XD)! I did want the line to put pressure on you over time, and I'm happy that everyone who's played it for me has had that experience ()!
Really fun! I had a little bit of trouble with click to grab and click to put down, I tended to click and grab, but I ended up getting the hang of it. The music though, a little bit too loud for my liking hahahah! But nice job!
@mralcoro Thank you, man! I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I get the issue with picking up the ingredients, you're not the first to bring it up (XD)! Thank you for spending your time on my game! :3
Fun game! But i have some problems with ui, so can't make full recipe :C
@omaewander Well, dang it (:|)! I'm not sure what the problem would be, but if you could get more specific with it, I'd like to look into it!
this is a great game! i had a lot of fun, and although it was hard it was pretty enjoyable! nice job on both the graphics and music as well.
The ai music is very cool I might try that out next jam.
@burrowbling Thank you very much! I did mean for it to be a short but *hard* game, the one that takes you a few tries to get good at but only takes a few minutes to beat afterward! The music was generated by an AI at Ecrett Music (https://ecrettmusic.com/play) but I did spend a ton of time refining the artwork, so I'm glad it shows! :relieved:
@creepyounguy Yeahhhhhh, the moment I found out that it existed I decided to use it wherever I could! So far I've only used it for my 3 LD games, but even still it's gotten me out of tight spots! XD
You really hit the nostalgia button with this one. Love it.
Great art style! A part of the UI of the interface is beyond the screen and cannot be seen.
@inksun Yeah, that's a problem with the web version specifically! If you full-screen the game it does fix it! :)
The story concept for this is hilarious hahaha XD Love it! The art is cool too. No UI issues in full-screen mode!
Great art and ideas. Really make the experience with lot of tensity and rush (Actually I got hungry after this.)
Very enjoyable game. I like the presentation and the overall mood. The graphics are clear and the music is popping. Nice grain of salt in the humor as well.
I think the order recipe could use some tuning. Now it takes time to scan which items you actually need and gives you a huge disadvantage. Or maybe I was just slow. I also like the zoom, but I wouldn't want items to be unreachable because of it.
Good job!
This is a fun game to play! Enjoyable. We had a similar idea, but at the end decided to stick to the space theme. IMHO, the receipt sheet could've been bigger. And the mouse controller definitely is not quick enough for the process. I have plugged graphic tablet to keep up with the game pace.
Game is fun, it's simple but it works great! The only thing (I kinda join my voice to the others') would be related to the fact that the orders are far from everything else. They could either be put in the middle of the screen with only the relevant ingredients or ingredients could be easier to put on the sub (either with keyboard shortcuts in the style of CookServeDelicious or by drag&drop rather than having to click to take and then to drop).
Other than that, it's a solid game! Well done!
a simple but fun game!
This game looks really good, its very well polished, and the music is fun aswell(altough it't a bit sad that there is no music in the "Cutscene"). I wasn't able to beat it tough since it is super hard to controll with a trckpad. I will try to beat it again if with a mouse today though.
Cool game!.
Very difficult with a trackpad! The art looks great and the music is pleasant. It's a little difficult to know which ingredients are required because the indicator icons are very small and some are similar. There were a few times where a customer wasn't happy with their sandwich and I wasn't sure why. Overall, very impressive for 72 hours!
Cool game. I made a similar game but instead creating the items I just sold them.
Mechanic wise only problem with the game is clicking to put each item. Drag and drop or select item and put as much as you want would be much better.
Overall good game! Congrats.
Classic game with great implementation. Astonishingly good graphics and sound design; even the main menu music is great. The gameplay is of course fun, but it was little hard for me. I also wished that the ingredient list was a little larger, as it further hindered my already slow gameplay. But you even made a little story for your game, which far surpasses any expectations. Great work, really fun!
@coderaurus Thank you for your feedback, I'm happy you enjoyed it (:3)! Annoyingly, I did actually want to make the order menu easier to read, but kept it the way it is because of time constraints along with making the line pile up (XD)! I did make sure the zoom didn't cut off ingredients, though I assume it would if you aren't playing in fullscreen mode (forgive me for not checking that )...
@sohei I did make it difficult to prepare sandwiches quickly, literally just because I wanted the line to pressure you to get better (XD)! If I do try to improve on this idea, I will definitely make the order easier to read, as it does seem to hinder the experience more than I would like! Thank you for playing my submission, I hope you liked it! >:)
@m4ttu Thanks for the feedback! I am seeing the order paper as more of a problem than I originally thought, so I'll be sure to fix that if I ever try this idea again! A lot of the annoyances people are facing are things that I made hard intentionally, but it seems I'm gonna need to improve my implementation of it in the future! Thank you for your feedback, it really helps! :)
@cowgummiboy Yeahhhh, I didn't even consider trackpad users in the creation of this; sorry for that! The music was generated by AI at Ecrett Music (https://ecrettmusic.com/play) if you'd like to see how it was created! :D
@real-human-1000 Forgive my overlooking of trackpad users, this game is hard enough with a mouse; I hope it wasn't too annoying for you (XD)! I do wish I had spent more time making the essential information clear enough! It seems to take away from the enjoyment more than I would've hoped (;|)! Thank you for trying out my game and leaving me some quality feedback!
@deniz-aras Thanks for commenting, I'll be sure to see what you created in a bit (>:D)! I was going to make drag/drop the way of making your sandwich, but after not wanting to spend any more time on the base mechanics, I just moved on with what I had ! Thank you for playing my entry!
@urjarm I'm glad you enjoyed it! The art was something I probably spent more than 8 hours on so I'm happy it works well (:D)! The sound on the other hand was more drag n' drop, but I'm glad I fine-tuned it to fit the game! The music was AI generated at Ecrett Music (https://ecrettmusic.com/play), and the sound effects were created in ChipTone (https://sfbgames.itch.io/chiptone)! Sorry for the little mistakes in implementation with the mechanics, but thank you for trying my game and leaving me some feedback! :)
Wow, you NAILED IT! You got it all: it feels like one of the old papa games indeed, the art is good, the AI music fits it all well, the gameplay is stressful and really well-thought, the whole game is bug-less and it was made by only one person. Magnifique! I literally have no other feedback other than it's 5/5 for me, great work. Also, the min wage employee "joke" (is it really a joke, or just sad reality?...) was quite funny and I smiled to myself seeing the menancing ":3" emote in the intro :3
@ehon Thank you so so much! I'm glad all my effort this jam wasn't in vain! I made sure to get everything in the best state I could before sending it out, so I'm happy it comes through!
Heya! I loved the sound and visuals for this game. Really top-notch. The subs actually looked edible after they were done, which made me hungry haha.
Overall I thought it was very well-made, with my biggest issues really coming down to the layout and UX. I feel like there were opportunities to present the orders in such a way that would have made it much easier to follow them. Particularly having to dart my eyes to the lower right hand corner of the screen and interpret the numbers (X0 is probably the least scannable way to show "nothing" as it's so close to X3, why not hide the text for these ingredients?)
Apart from this, I was also a little confused as to the meaning of the sound and visual feedback. Because of the pacing of the game, I never was able to reflect on what it meant for the camera to zoom in, or whether the sound feedback meant I'd made the customer wait too long. More clarity here would have helped a lot.
Still, I played this for quite a while on-stream because it was fun to try again and see if I could improve. Thanks for the game!
Great idea and very nice graphics. Looking at all the food made me hungry. I was annoyed that I couldn't use the item I had selected multiple times, but I still enjoyed the game
@adamcyounis Thank you for playing my game! I went back to watch you play through it, and I've gotta say, the time limit really made me cut down on the clarity... I tried to get by without a tutorial on how to make the sandwiches, but understandably, it didn't work as well as I thought it would. For each sandwich you need 1 type of meat, veggie, sauce, and cheese; The order could've been wayyyyy clearer, I was going to make the unnecassery ingredients darkened into the background, though it was too small a priority for me in hindsight (XD)! Some of the annoying things were done on purpose, as I assumed the game would be too easy if I fixed em', so you'll have to forgive me for that! It was really fun watching you play through it, though it also made me cringe at some of my mistakes ! I'm hoping I can improve next time, as I can still say this is a step up from my last one! Seriously, I think you ran into every problem possible with the way I set up the game, which is kinda sad, but it's helped me learn! >:D
Hey, first of all, congrats on finishing a game! The game feels very polished, with no bugs encountered in my playthrough. One thing that I would improve on is the recipe window. Like others mentioned, I have to move my eye back and forth between the middle and the corner of the screen, which can get tiresome. Also, the zoom every 10 seconds make the recipe window move out of bound, which kinda startled me a bit. Awesome graphics and music. Great job! - Khoa
@madness Thank you for trying it out, sorry if it was annoying in some ways (XD)! The recipe window was one of the last things I made, and I said I would fix it later; I didn't in the end, unfortunately ! The zoom shouldn't cut anything off in fullscreen, but the game is cropped otherwise so I'm sure I could've made it less intense. I'm glad you enjoyed it, thanks again for playing! :)
Hoooooly crap this game is stressful! Poor Katie :(
You mentioned that you thought our game was similar, and I'd have to agree. You've perfectly captured the feeling of the stressed out service worker that we were going for. Well done!
@bougiebirdie Thank you very much! It was fun seeing our different ideas on how to handle this kind of game ! I really enjoyed yours, thank you again for playing through mine!
This was a really polished game, especially for 1 person. The mechanics worked and had nice visuals and music. Only small grip is that the intro was a tad long. Great job!
@makhan Thank you! I tried my hardest to put it out as polished as I could, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
This game is so good! Its really well polished and i like the art style. It is well executed, too. Nice work!
- Music is very catchy - Graphics are really good - Concept is nice and very well implemented.
- The screen zoom was very annoying, the challenge in getting the ingredients was already there, but the zoom makes everything move at crucial times - The multiple ingredient selections seemed less challenging and more tedious. I think by default, each other should have you grab one of the selected ingredients, simulating the normal amount that would be on a real order. At later stages of the game maybe you could mix it up by having a customer want "extra" so you have to grab two of a single ingredient. - skip 's' to skip, why not any key, or click-to-skip? the rest of the game uses mouse controls so no reason to deviate for a cutscene
- keyboard controls actually might've improved this game. imagine if the 9 ingredients were placed in a 3x3 grid so that the game could be played entirely on the numpad? 1-9 places an ingredient on the sandwich, 0 starts over if you mess up, enter/return gives the customer their sandwich. just another way to make the game simpler but more fast-paced, as is probably more comfortable to play. - more visual and audio cues would be helpful. maybe a screen tint when you're about to lose, or sped-up music? - maybe chatter from the customers. voice samples of them actually placing their order in addition to having the visual "current order". or at very least, grumbling as they get more and more angry, sounds of gratitude when they get their order fast. - Just looking at your screenshot I was wondering if it'd look better with a grayscale background, only having the UI be in color?
Not really my type of game but here some constructive criticism, as requested:
- The camera movement occludes which ingredients are required, the box where this is shown, should be moved towards the center of the screen, maybe even up to where the ingedients are, so the eyes of the player don't have to move up and down so much.
- grey out non-required ingredients to make it easier to read which ones are required.
- Click to Grab, Click to Drop, this is probably an intended mechanic but classic drag and drop might improve the flow here.
- highlight missing ingredients if a customer is unhappy before he walks away, so players understand what mistakes they made
Despite it not being my type of game and always losing, I still enjoyed it thanks to the art and music.
@shaolin-dave @leorid Thank you both for your in-depth feedback; I've been given some great ideas on how to improve my game, and critizisms on things that didn't work the best! It's *really* helpful, I appreciate you two taking the time to give your honest opinion on my entry!
Nice serving type game! I like the idea of having different requests and ingredients. If only the requests were closer, I could do better in this game.
Wowwww, i like the art, truly authentic
Really nice art! It was just the right amount of stress trying to count up all the ingredients. The only feedback is that its hard to keep up with the number of customers and they just continue to pile up.
The art and gameplay was fun! Really loved the retro theme. If you could try out my game(https://ldj.am/$303168) and rate it as well I'd really appreciate it!
Dug the art and sound design, and the gameplay was well communicated! Kinda feels like it belongs on the DS, would be great with a touchscreen/stylus control scheme. I do wish the timer was a bit shorter though, it's kinda long for the kind of game this is. Also it would be nice if the ingredients were just a bit closer to the bread, as it feels like I'm waving my mouse around a lot, haha. Cool game for a jam though!
This is a very good-looking art. Great colors, all the ingredients look very juicy. Beat the game the second try, sometimes it felt like the click on the ingredient wasn't proccessed or something when I tried to click on them fast, that's what caused most of the struggle. A well-made game all around: great sounds, art, mood. I wish there was no 10 second theme to see how far the complexity of the sandviches could go.
Well done! I'm a huge Overcooked fan, so I really enjoyed playing this game. It looked great as well!
It was, however, very difficult. I'll echo other reviewers' sentiments that it would be nice if the order was centered and perhaps hide the not relevant items for the current order. I think that the number of items is also slightly too high--some of the orders required 10 items, which clicking back and forth in 10 seconds was very difficult. My advice in the future is to not forget about user experience, and consider what a user would find "fun."
Balance is really hard to get right in a jam, so I understand the shortcomings and praise the amazing finished product that you put out!
@bloodbane, @sk-katea, @pianoman373, @omga; Thank you all for your feedback! I enjoy coming back to my computer to see people have enjoyed my game! :3
@nick-shooter Thank you very much! I really wish I could try this on a touchscreen now, I'm realizing how much better that would feel ()! I do understand those nit-picks, because I annoyingly put them in on purpose; glad to see my scheme worked! >:D
@maximbegunov I've been hearing people comment on the difficulty of my game, so I'm glad there's still a good number of people that are beating it ()! Thank you for playing it through to the end, I'm happy you enjoyed it!
@kushimoto Thank you for playing through my game, and taking the time to leave your opinion on it (:D)! I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I'm sure I'll need to tweak the difficulty a good bit if I decide to continue on this ()! I'm glad you liked it, even if I made it a bit annoying to play; if you saw the games I spent my time on you'd understand why the balance is so out of wack! XD
Wooow, great sound, and nice game, but hard to do an order.. probably it was easy on phones...but not on PC
I like the concept and design. The music and aesthetic is on point as well. But something with the controls didn't click. Not sure if the Order screen is out of the way from the action or if the ability to grab multiple ingredients at a time, but wish making the sandwich was more fluid. It's the looking to the bottom and then going back and forth for an ingredient at a time cuts into any flow. Wanted it to click better with me.
Challenging, but fun little game  Would be nice to have some orders which doesn't have as many ingredients (and then some which would have even more for a little variety in gameplay and times  You can see me play until the end here  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbmO3rQ_F-A
@molpe Thank you so much for making a video on my game! I've never got one of these so it feels really special ()! Probably one of the most in-depth pieces of feedback I've ever gotten, thank you! It's so helpful to actually see someone play through my game!
Great job. The music of A.A. was pretty cool, although I tried it for my project and didn't get anything suitable. A crucial issue that I think disturbed the balance of the game is that the first customer takes a long time to arrive to be served while the time is already counting, this makes us lose considerable time, and when we start to serve the first customer it is almost 8 seconds, and then a snowball of other customers starts coming. I think there should also be a progression of ingredients, starting with a few and later increasing progressively. They already start with a lot of ingredients, all this makes it almost impossible to be able to serve and walk the line at the same time. Getting that right, the game looks amazing. A great job without a doubt.
That was for sure the most frantic entry I played so far. I just barely got to the end, but it was worth it. That was very fun, and the graphics look great. All my sandwiches looked awful, but who's gonna complain.
I really love the art! Impressive you did this all yourself
