LD51 — Every 10 seconds

Impending Doom of a Thousand Kitties by RalfZ 2022-10-04T21:01:18Z

The art is adorable!! I wish there was a way to quickly switch between the grab hand and the food bowl (maybe a keyboard shortcut?) I think it'd also be nice to have more feedback to the player about the hunger levels of each cat. And maybe if you make future iterations, you could add different kinds of food for different effects? Very whimsical game :)

miam by yopox 2022-10-06T16:08:56Z

Super fun!! It kind of reminds me of those typing games to learn how to type faster when I was learning the buttons for each ingredient. But by the second go-around I think I got it! Very funny customer dialogue when I miss an order XD Miam.PNG

The Ghosts in your Mind by Mercuryal 2022-10-04T03:00:20Z

Really neat art! The bell audio for the health drops went really with your music. Jumping felt a little weird - all of my play time was spent under the structures. Lovely name and game concept/story. Great job!

Clock Caper by Ryan Dotsikas 2022-10-11T14:20:36Z

I'm obsessed with this track! Amazing choice and theme. The graphics are sooooo good too - like others say, it reminds me of Cuphead but is definitely it's own game. Extremely impressed!

One gameplay note - My high score was 37, but for that run I found that it was much faster to not dodge any of the obstacles and just take the penalty hit because it's a little difficult to jump/dodge. Then while stalled from the penalty hit, I was safe to absorb the other 3 obstacles that were about to hit me too, so it was in my favor that the penalty hits don't stack haha. My high score when actually trying to dodge everything was around 12, so I think I'd suggest a change in movement mechanics to make it easier to dodge if you're encouraging the player to do so.

Really awesome job!! Thank you for uploading your game, and congratulations on your entry!

Survives on time island by Lorwon 2022-10-10T18:50:10Z

Initial thoughts - I'm impressed by the amount of work you finished in just one weekend! Very minecraft-esque free roaming survival. I couldn't see the event names on the top right of my screen (it was cut off), so each one was a surprise. I think I got several night events in a row at one point because my screen was always dark haha. I noticed snowflakes falling at one point, but I didn't know what effect that would have. I referenced your tutorial controls you posted several times before I got them - fairly straightforward after that.

Thoughts after a few more runs - I usually last around 300s or so each run before running out of food/water. Like you mentioned in your post, an outro screen or score that prints after death would be good to add. I foraged the entire time and only ran into 1 log in 1 of my runs, but I never ran into string for the slingshot, so I think it would be good to increase the frequency of those materials. I tried looking around and wandered deeper into the ocean - I saw some elk(?) spawning in the water but no other obtainable resources, so I would quickly return to higher land.

Sound/art - I think sound effects and audio feedback make a big difference in player experience, so adding foley for item usage and environment sfx would really elevate the game (though I'm sure this would've been difficult in a weekend given how many features were already in your game). The landscape generation is impressive; I like keeping tabs on where I've been, but it seemed that the scenery and item spawns were changing constantly. I think that fast resource replenishment works much better for this type of game if you're prioritizing one or the other. The music choice was very relaxing and fits the instrumental ambient genre that pairs well with sandbox survival games. Kudos to your wife for the pixel art! We did the same thing for our LD51 game where my partner pretty much did the entire game, and I helped with sprites/art.

Overall - I see a lot of potential to add more features and room for some polish, but this is still a very impressive entry! Congratulations, and thank you for uploading!

What's the rules? by Pusheeneiro 2022-10-09T23:05:28Z

Wooooo 1%! I know several comments already said this, but this game really gave me Impossible Quiz flashbacks. I was even counting the questions just to make sure there wasn't a question later that asked me what question number we were on haha. I think I played for a solid hour before finishing. Good job making this! Whatstherules.JPG

There were a few levels that I figured out how to get past without actually understanding why it was the answer (like the level with an assortment of internet related + road + spiderweb items arranged in a circle), but I just memorized what I clicked before to get past. As for the basketball level, it seems like you were making it so that the top half of the screen was unclickable to prevent players from dragging the basketball to the hoop? In case this was unintentional, I wanted to mention that if you throw the basketball towards the top right corner and then click it again you can drag it into the hoop to pass without having to aim your shot as much.

Dolores To Donuts by No Grapes Games 2022-10-04T04:07:56Z

The graphics are AMAZING! Soooo impressive, on top of all of the other elements you implemented! It was pretty hard to keep up - it took all of my attention just to do the donuts haha. Very funny :D

Witchy Sketchy Alchemy by Bruyère Alice 2022-10-05T02:26:14Z

The art pulled me in! It looks so good - great job!!! Everything looks really clean, and the menu looks great too. I noticed on the web version that the retry button didn't work for me, and I typically spent most of the 10 seconds restocking. But overall very cohesive game!

Chaos Exam by Moekiru 2022-10-06T17:22:03Z

Nice short game! Maybe at the end you could print the time as the score? Though I guess the fastest run anyone could do would be 40 seconds probably

Fall Girl by civmaniac 2022-10-06T15:16:09Z

A secret ending?? Now I have to play again XD Pretty fun game, and it feels clean (no pun). The obstacles are funny haha. Hope you had fun making it!

Slow Mo Samurai by Rawb 2022-10-04T02:31:50Z

This is so creative! Really solid and easy to pick up. I also had some trouble seeing some of the white bullets and orange gas(?). The mechanics feel good, too.

Chicken Golem! by T C 2022-10-04T03:55:50Z

The platform switching was so creative! I like a good platformer. Overall really fun! The art was very well done

Poda Wants a Statue by Doot 2022-10-15T15:38:23Z

YESSSS I have been playing this game for several days in hopes to achieve the top known score! Such a fun game. At one point I was mocking up graph models to find the optimal strategy, but my results were fairly variable and data collection was tedious. The process itself was really exciting though. Honestly I don't know what I would recommend to improve this game. I don't see any issues with balance, and I think the mechanics are pretty solid. I love the graphics, too. Overall, a really awesome resource management game - full five stars from me. Thanks for making this!

Poda100.JPG

Bearly Fishing by SakuH 2022-10-04T15:59:25Z

This game was so fun! Nice graphics, and the bear is cute. Swinging around felt very smooth - it was easy to lose track of time. Honestly I could see this game on Steam somewhere!

Bearly Fishing by SakuH 2022-10-07T17:43:48Z

I am commenting again to say that out of the dozens of games I've played over the past few days, I really wanted to go back and play this one more! So fun! BearlyFishing1.JPG

Bearly Fishing by SakuH 2022-10-07T21:47:07Z

@jazkottaja It was just a screenshot of my score! Not the most competitive score posted, but I'll be trying again! 1753.5s / 20 max spin combo / 132 reset count. Another small comment - might be nice to have a quick reset button for when you mess up a swing immediately and don't want to wait out the 10 seconds.

Potat-OS by JMad 2022-10-05T02:35:52Z

Wow! The old windows make me feel old. Pretty funny game! I was only able to get through the champagne window because I read some of the comments above about W/S^ so I second including a note about controls somewhere!

Sailing through life by Chase of Bass 2022-10-09T01:14:48Z

I noticed there are a bunch of comments already, so please excuse me if I'm repeating some things that others have already mentioned :)

Such a sweet message! Have you played Spiritfarer before? The gameplay is very different, but the narrative message is right on par with this game. The dialogue here + the ending was so touching! ToT

My score was 1120, and I continued collecting stars for several minutes after the end of the story before realizing my score wasn't going up any higher haha. I think one thing this game would benefit from would be additional obstacles. I actually thought there would be some sort of penalty if my boat went off the edge of the screen, which made for slightly higher stakes in the star collection, but my playstyle changed after I realized otherwise.

Additional suggestions unrelated to gameplay - I think it'd be so cool if the sky scenery at the end changed and sunlight came out! But I totally get if the scenery stayed the same while all of the boats were out because it's still sends a message like your loved ones are helping you through hard times.

Overall, the gameplay was intuitive and easy to pick up! Great concept, and congratulations on your game!

Tower of Time 2 by CodeRaurus 2022-10-10T02:54:47Z

Nice game - I successfully finished all of the levels! When I saw that this was a sequel game, I felt that I should play the original as well just for a little context. I think it's still a pretty different game and is only similar in theming, though. Tower of Time 2 feels much cleaner and is visually more striking, so congratulations on your improvements so far!

I briefly reviewed the previous comments, and I definitely had difficulty with that fourth(?) level that everyone else got stuck on, but I was only able to get passed it after reading your comment about taking a creative approach. Tricky!

I think there's a lot of potential to expand this game with more levels and features if you wanted to. The level design was interesting, and your take on the 10 second theme is really unique to me. Like a previous commenter, I am guilty of wall-hugging and excessive jumping especially in precision platformers, but being cognizant of the time loss with those maneuvers and conservative with my movements made the level more interesting.

Possible bug - I noticed if you get a clock right before your timer runs out, it disappears for the next run.

ShipIt! by Joey Van Lierop 2022-10-04T01:21:15Z

SO ADORABLE!!! I love it. I agree with the Overcooked vibes^ This is the kind of game I'd love as a couch co-op! I kept getting E and Spacebar actions mixed up and always ended up throwing my seeds everywhere.

Cat.exe by Alpha Wolf Studios 2022-10-06T15:52:28Z

Nice job! I'm not sure if it was just my screen or not, but it was a little difficult to tell where the voids were in the track. It also seemed like I kept catching on the platforms a lot. The graphics and colors are impressive!

Bygone Melodies by Save Sloth Studios 2022-10-04T15:30:25Z

I totally bombed that prison song but got 628 on the ocean one!! I wasn't expecting such a cute story - nice touch! The frog and art kind of remind me of Mr. Frog and Mr. Toad. Very nostalgic!

Room Again by SofiGnedova 2022-10-05T20:14:27Z

Cool art style! Really interesting puzzle game - I wish there were more rooms!

A Quick Bunny Affair 🥕 by Vidu 2022-10-06T17:39:01Z

Awesome concept for a game! I think there might be other comments mentioning it, but at 40 kids I couldn't see the number of carrots needed to be collected. Art is sooooo good! Really great entry for the Jam, and I saw that you're looking a multiplayer options in the menu! If the number of kids keeps scaling up, I think it'd be nice to add something on the player's side to enable them to keep up with the scaling (if you weren't going to already). Great entry!

Burger Rush by defilerzero 2022-10-11T01:58:46Z

Super fun game! I played it a few times, but my scores were nowhere near some of the other players' on here! If you're interested in seeing another game with a similar concept, then here's another LD51 game that I played a few days ago:

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/51/miam

It's interesting to see what design differences affect gameplay and experience. I think Burger Rush has a faster pace since order doesn't matter, but order counts in Miam. I think Miam also has scaling points since it counts streak combos. Overall, I think this game has clean gameplay, good graphics and no bug issues that I noticed. Great job!

Fast Food In10sifies by Grau 2022-10-12T03:00:31Z

Very appetizing burgers! The graphics and recipes are really great. I felt very immersed in the game and even thought I should be getting paid wages for my hard work hahaha. The music choice made it easy to get into a rhythm and keep going, but eventually I stopped at 100. I would recommend scaling the difficulty by either mixing up the ingredients available, increasing the complexity of the recipes or maybe adding events to change the frequency of orders occasionally - like a lunch rush. Overall though, the gameplay was smooth and straightforward. Nice job!

Rush Hour by SephoWepho 2022-10-04T03:44:11Z

The story concept for this is hilarious hahaha XD Love it! The art is cool too. No UI issues in full-screen mode!

Lighthouse by rickylee 2022-10-10T00:20:06Z

I was surprised to be playing in 3D instead of 2D! Awesome game concept, and the thunderstorm sounded really cool - almost like ASMR. I think the lighthouse does a better job of lighting the rocks in the screen peripherals rather than the ones in the player's path, but the smaller light source on the boat can usually catch any immediate collisions. It's never completely pitch dark around the player because of that, which decreases the difficulty of the game.

Some suggestions - I think adding a timer at the top that prints your run time at the end would be add a more competitive atmosphere and urgency to the game. I was also expecting my boat to break after too many runs into the rocks. but after testing it on another run I found that the boat is indestructible. I think it would be cool if you added this boat durability mechanic and a way to display that to the player. Overall, nice entry and congratulations on your submission!

Hot Celestial Bodies by Mr_DanH 2022-10-04T02:46:08Z

I wasn't sure how to give the flower or the emotional support fly, or what to do when the person didn't have anything they liked, but I did fairly well in the dating pool :) Creative art and concept!

Frantic Farmer by Jel2217 2022-10-04T19:27:43Z

Lives up to its name! I thought the mechanics were fairly intuitive, and it didn't take long to pick up and get going. Still, a brief tutorial would be good in the beginning!

CATS AND COFFEE by Graylure 2022-10-10T00:41:51Z

Amazing pixel art! So adorable, and I like the details on the customers. The game was fun, but I think I would've liked to see the level of difficulty scale up as the shift went on. Maybe the number of cats approaching the door could increase or the drinks could be more complex. Or, maybe the order frequency could increase exponentially. The game instructions were pretty straightforward, so I didn't have any trouble figuring out how to play and completing orders. I learned how to submit the orders with visual cues. Great job!

Diagonally by PartySquadMember 2022-10-04T03:33:18Z

Impressive and ambitious game! I wasn't sure if there was a way to adjust the camera angle - I had some trouble with that and the lighting. I also ran into this glitch in the first few seconds where my character fell through the corner of the room and into an abyss. Diagonally.PNG

Jupiter & Arcana Travel Through the Nevermore by fae.pdf 2022-10-05T19:49:53Z

I was intrigued by the art and stayed for the beautiful, captivating prose. Your piece is very cohesive and is tied well with the solemn music - very well done! I know your post said it was a piece of interactive fiction, but I didn't believe you until I reached the end XD definitely was expecting to fight something. I went through it a few times to look at the different endings. 'Contemplative' is a very apt descriptor, and I appreciate your artistic approach here. Thanks for making this game!

MineKeeper by flanne 2022-10-03T21:52:16Z

I played to the end and won :) It would be great if the resources populated randomly every time. I had some difficulty in the beginning and trying to jump back up to skeins I dug. The digging noise was unexpected ASMR XD MineKeeper.PNG

Spooky Glitch by nicorm 2022-10-03T22:13:58Z

Nice art! The zombie platformer was so hard, but I like the pumpkin catch game. A lot of great little details here - esp. the pumpkin curser. The music was perfect :)

Exp10sion by lynnezzzy 2022-10-04T21:16:06Z

Pixel art was great! The ghost run mechanic really added some challenge to the puzzles - very interesting! I played until the last level and would have played more if there was more :)

Is this your Order? by martinboue 2022-10-06T03:19:42Z

Pretty fun! The art style is really nice - I loved going around the town. The restaurant name spoofs were funny too. Memorizing the villager locations and names was one thing, but it was a little difficult to know which restaurants were which. I think it'd also be nice to have a smaller display (like maybe a phone screen or something) in the screen corner to help keep track of the orders that popped up previously. Thanks for uploading!

10 Seconds, 9 Lives by Joe Bevis 2022-10-03T21:22:55Z

Cute game! It only took me 2 lives to figure out how to play (I didn't read the instructions beforehand), so it's very intuitive. I love the graphics, and the music fits well. I especially liked that you included a sleep scene at the end of the day cycle. The bouncy cars were funny too. Sometimes if I walked too close to the spiked balls it would count as a hit, but it didn't look like I touched it. Overall great job!!

Phantom of Time by Lemare 2022-10-05T18:29:51Z

Great game! The sound effects and graphics take the cake. I think a little more drag on the player's ghost would give it a floatier feeling, but that's just personal preference! And I also think it would be nice if there was a way to display the buffs that were already selected when we choose new ones. Overall, very solid platformer!

Don't mess with my papitas by rascher 2022-10-04T15:40:32Z

Cute art, and I love the name! I think it'd be better if you could swivel while attacking. I agree with the others that it'd be great with sound, but otherwise nice job!

WHERE IS THAT KITTY GOING??? by LightTerraDog 2022-10-04T19:51:43Z

The cat trees were my favorite! I kinda want that background for my desktop <3

WHERE IS THAT KITTY GOING??? by LightTerraDog 2022-10-04T21:24:49Z

@lightterradog omg thank you!!! that's so nice!

RoadFromHell by 01edward01 2022-10-09T21:38:29Z

Nice platformer! I read through some of the other comments to make sure I don't repeat too much of what the others are saying - I didn't think this game was too hard at all!

The background and art was nice! I think making more contrast between damaging fixtures and the background would help the player more, but the message is pretty clear that they're dangerous after a few restarts haha. One thing that would really elevate the game is sound effects for level change, taking damage, using the wand, hitting enemies, etc. That audio feedback would probably help other players track their gameplay a bit better. It especially would've helped me identify the Archangel's crystal projectiles at the end. I also think it'd be more fun if the Archangel had more hp since it's the final stage boss!

Great work on the game! Thanks for uploading it!

Spaceship Parking Simulator by fuzzybut 2022-10-04T19:37:17Z

Thank you all for playing and reviewing our game!! My personal high score is 70 XD but Ryan managed 285! I agree that it's pretty tough and that the velocity reqs to land are unforgiving at times - but maybe that's the nature of piloting a spaceship. We did consider implementing gravity at some point and decided against it for the sake of simplicity/time.

Spaceship Parking Simulator by fuzzybut 2022-10-07T14:50:36Z

@iamsodarncool thank you so much for the detailed feedback!! You made some really good points, most of which we considered implementing and ultimately couldn't in the time frame. I have unused animations such as a rocket explosion upon crashing too. I agree with adding speed feedback and revised hitboxes. I'll be adding these to our list of improvements! The only issue with landing gear is that we thought it might be hard to see on the screen, so we were considering either this or some more obvious visual cue of a safe landing speed. Thanks again for playing!

Cat Wave RUN by CooLguNxDD 2022-10-04T20:42:50Z

@coolgunxdd :') thanks for the game - hope this score is good enough for you! I noticed in the desert biomes that it was easiest to maneuver around the slimes because the pathing was really wide, but I'm not sure if that's by design. It looked like the global events changed more frequently than every 10 sec? The combat system is very unique, btw! catrun.PNG

In Season by Ha-kuro 2022-10-11T02:46:52Z

This game is so fun!! I will say that my score is very inflated because you collect a lot of money up front if you farm in the tutorial area and only plant apples indefinitely. In fact, I missed the dialogue saying to go outside at first and was about to log a bug saying the seasons aren't changing, which was why I started out with a ton of tutorial apple money haha.

After I took my steps outside, the game became a lot more fun. I will also say that I am very biased towards farming games because I LOVE them, but this seems like a really solid game! The graphics are wonderful, and I feel encouraged to find the most optimal number of plants to plant based on grow time and season.

I appreciate the easy menu layout and that you can scroll through tools - even more so if there's a way to make the scrolling more sensitive. I also think scaling the penalty up and charging for seeds would add to the challenge. This game I played the other day has a similar concept, but you can check out some of their scaling difficulty if you want: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/51/frantic-farmer

Awesome entry, and great job!

InSeason2.JPG

WorldFlip by helluin 2022-10-04T18:12:39Z

Neat game! I liked that when the world switches, the player is in the same location as the other world - that's a nice extra layer to the puzzles. I think most of the other games of this concept that I've seen have the player swap and stay in the same spot as the previous switch (where you left them). I think your version connects the puzzles better. Thanks for uploading!

Pandora’s Box [WebGL/Win/Touch] by AJ Studio 2022-10-09T22:02:50Z

Great concept! I can imagine that there are a lot of directions you could go if you decide to continue working on the game after LD51 - continuing on the scaling level of difficulty, more levels inside the box, or even continuing with the theme and adding elements/mobs from Greek mythology, etc. I'm curious if the butterflies are meant to do anything or if they're mainly for collection like the coins in Mario games.

My total time was 94.49s, which isn't the most competitive time on here but I think still pretty good! However, if you cap 10s per level and have the longest possible total time as 120s, maybe it's not such a great time haha. The quick restart button was a great idea!

Cute art, and the character animations for jumping/running movement look great. I'm impressed that you made this music too! Would you mind sharing what you made it on?

Slime Can Fly by BenTheTwoOfUs 2022-10-09T00:23:41Z

After nonconsecutive hours of blood, sweat and tears, I finally finished the game! SlimeCanFly.JPG Level 28 was a killer - I was ready to give up on that one, and I definitely spent over an hour on that level alone. Since there wasn't a tutorial, I spent many lives trying to figure out how to effectively use the slime powerup without breaking through all of the platform blocks. I know the dashed platform is the only one safe from breaking, but otherwise the best I could do was spam the jump button because sometimes the platforms wouldn't break. Is this related to the jump timing while you're a large slime?

I can't help but notice many parallels to this Mario Bros. Classic game and some other elements from the franchise (i.e. the enemy mechanics to koopas/hammer bros, attacking, pipe enemies): 31079425-mario_bros-png-scaled595_706x600.jpg

Luckily for me, I love Mario games! The slime powerup was unique, and I'd love to see more ways that the player can use this in levels.

I noticed a few features that seemed incomplete, but I suspect more will be implemented later - the '!' box in one of the earlier levels and the 1-ups that you get as a large slime. The game runs smoothly, and it seems very well made. Great job, and awesome level design!

Mochi Gang by MioMilo 2022-10-04T03:22:10Z

Nice job! I thought ZQSD controls took a while to get used to because I kept defaulting to WASD. The other thing is sometimes when I switch back to the other characters, they're not the ones engaged in the puzzle, so it'd be nice to have more simultaneous puzzles to switch back and forth from. The characters look cute though!

LD53 — Delivery

Deliverace by sbeif 2023-05-09T14:03:52Z

Wow, multiplayer!!! Really neat! I played single player, but I will definitely come back later to try multiplayer!

Gameplay - I am sure my pizza was very, very cold by the time I delivered my first pizza haha. It took me a few tries - mainly because I wanted to bike faster, but I couldn't maneuver very well if I did. I'm totally cool with k being the only pedal button, but there were several times where I wished I had some sort of brake or backpedal button for when I knew I didn't have enough platform to make a jump and didn't want to start over again. I suppose in a race you don't really want to backpedal or brake anyways, but I found that the obstacle clearance was too tight to go faster. I replayed the level a few times after my first delivery to see if I could speed it up, but could only go a little faster, so this could be an area that would make the game really satisfying to play (or maybe I'm just bad haha). Since there's one fixed level, I thought having a final lap time display would be a nice touch. But if you're planning on randomizing the levels in the future, then I don't think a lap timer is that important.

Music was perfect (love the bicycle bell); the rhythm made me want to mash k immediately and as fast as I could, even though that move was not great for the first obstacle. The sfx were hilarious.

Art/Graphics were very clean; I like the style and the font. I know everyone's talking about coloring the obstacles - maybe you don't need to color them in, but slightly highlighting them might be enough to still match the rest of the art style.

Awesome job on your game!

Aunt Emmas by gagapete 2023-05-10T17:49:14Z

Wonderful graphics - I love these sims. I played like 30+ days because I didn't notice the comment saying you're done after you get blueberries haha. There are a few features that could use polish (like pathfinding as everyone has already mentioned, or walking animation), but I'm sure given more time that is achievable. I noticed once your inventory is numerous enough, the inventory bar becomes greater than the screen width and you can't see the rest; might be nice to have a scroll feature there. I think it's a great effort for a good-mood game. Thanks for the entry!

Ice Cream Express by Steven Garberg 2023-05-08T20:47:44Z

Hello, congrats on your entry! I liked your game and played to 5 days a couple of times. At first I thought I failed on day 5 since the window looks the same as when you make below $20 on day 1, but I guess day 5 is the end? Between each day, I think there could have been some opportunity to ramp up difficulty.

Nice art on the ice cream screen and title! I think the map looks like a different style. Speaking of the map, I thought it was really fun how you can plow through neighbor's yards for shortcuts, haha. For some reason I had a hard time maneuvering the van, but I think that's just me getting turned around and forgetting which button to press to turn whatever direction I'm facing.

I noticed after the end of each day, you can still drive the van around and go to a house to start an order, essentially prepping your next order for the next morning. Other than that, I didn't find any other bugs! Good job! Like many of the other players, I'll probably be humming the ice cream song around my house for a while.

AutoChop Bistro by Araklaj 2023-05-03T00:26:21Z

Hello, hope you had fun putting together your game submission! Here are my notes from my playthrough - I had some difficulty with controls registering, but I think I got most of them to work. The conveyor placement was good, but the food didn't always appear in the adjacent tile when I clicked the crates. The inconsistency definitely added challenge, but I was able to deliver a few pieces of orders. Sometimes the ingredients weren't marked as received by the customer, or the wrong ingredient would be checked off in their order bubble. The cooking/chopping sfx would sometimes play twice, or some would play without prompting. I do appreciate the intent of the game and think it has potential for the player to be creative with routing order completion.

Winged Delivery by Ninnec 2023-05-08T21:04:17Z

Cool game idea! I had a decent thing going, thinking "this isn't so hard haha" . . . by the end of my run, my eyeballs were spinning trying to keep up. No issues with controls or bugs I ran into - overall good entry! I liked the art too. I'm not confident I can get much higher than this score.

@zsharpfire hahahaha your comment absolutely made my day 😂 can't stop laughing

Fast Cat by Terry_Crow 2023-05-03T14:08:39Z

At just under an hour of gameplay, I'm afraid I'll have to put my laser pen down or else I'll go crazy . . . this screenshot was taken right before I fell to near-bottom.

FastCat.JPG

I thought the sound effects were hilarious the first 20 minutes and gave me a good chuckle! After repeated falling and missed jumps, I needed to mute to focus. So funny though - really good effort. It's a seemingly simple game, but plenty entertaining.

I think it's good to have a challenge for the player, but I do wish the jumps were more forgiving sometimes. For some strategy, I found that you can try to control your falls and do a quick bounce off the walls to land back on the middle platforms. In a panic after falling a great height, I think I pulled off a mid-air jump to change direction, but I'm not sure if I imagined that. Nice entry!

Caravan Express by Brigart 2023-05-08T17:54:45Z

First I'd like to say that your game has beautiful art, and nice job with the menu work! I think that the colors and screen layout were very eye-catching to me. I completely understand that there might not have been enough time to put in audio, but for immersion into the story and journey the player takes, I believe these features would have gone a long way. Even just a few sfx would help improve feedback to the user. After a few minutes of poking around, I understood the dynamic of the game and how to prepare for the next trip at each city, but this wasn't immediately intuitive to me at first. As you said in your previous comment, an in-game tutorial or even a sample screenshot with your objects defined/labeled would help (specifically personal vs. merchant goods). Perhaps upon arrival to a city, having some additional text feedback about the payout of the goods and having the player see them disappear from their inventory would be helpful. Thank you and congratulations on your entry!

Cooking is Relaxing by Lenan 2023-05-09T16:01:39Z

Thanks for the entry! I love food service games, and the restaurant ambiance certainly was relaxing. The delivery timer added a good amount of pressure when the shipments were present. In my playthrough, I read the written instructions in your post but only glanced at the screenshots. The controls worked well, but I didn't pick up immediately how to plate the food and tried to plate and deliver ingredients one-by-one. I agree with some previous comments about timing/waiting for a while with no ingredients in between deliveries, so that could be rebalanced to really elevate the gameplay. Nice job!

Stamp-ede! by Nachodlv 2023-05-02T21:45:46Z

I survived!!

stamp-ede.JPG

It took a couple of tries to get going, but I think I mostly figured it out. Aside from the birthday present, I couldn't tell the difference between packages I was supposed to trash vs. packages I was supposed to put in the boss box, so I ended up putting anything questionable in the boss box.

The address lines were very fun, and I think you have a cool concept! I think when sorting it could be nice to have either immediate feedback if something was sorted incorrectly or an end-of-day line item explaining why the daily wage was discounted. Nice job!

THC - Tower Highflower Carriers by Noam Blei 2023-05-08T22:25:59Z

The music in this game is so catchy! I gotta say, I did click on your game because of the cover art only to find the rest of the game didn't quite match up. The juxtaposition of these happy flower people needing strategy to deliver in some kind of war-torn/violent city is a pretty funny concept. I noticed it's only on one level, but I played through it a handful of times to try different combinations of vehicles. For gameplay/strategy, since there's no time limit the player can wait until enough buses are stockpiled and deploy them all at once. Same strategy worked for the mopeds, and the mopeds were faster too, so I think for balancing it would be good to add an additional constraint. Nice job, and thanks for the entry!

Costruttore by CeterasDragos 2023-05-09T01:50:02Z

Hello, this game is so CREATIVE and a ton of fun! I think I've been tinkering away for an hour or so now trying out different builds. My best method so far has been building a small triangular enclosure with a wheel at each point, keeping the transport item snug inside. With a tight support, I can barrel through the course and "break" my vehicle into the titan head/mouth. It doesn't really work all the time, but I haven't had a lot of other successful designs. This seems like one of the most complex jam games I've played, allowing the player so much build freedom - it's very impressive. Like a few of the other commenters, I experienced some minor lagging or glitches. One of my trials featured a "hammock" of headlights (about a dozen or so) - the game did not like running that. It gets pretty frame-y when you crash into a box and packing peanuts explode everywhere to the point where I can only guess what's happening to my vehicle every few frames it shows. I also noticed you could build with more materials than the inventory menu says is available, going into x-1, x-2, x-3 etc. number of items.

Anyways, I will definitely be back to play again later and wanted to write my 2-cents of praise! I think this game is purchase-worthy. All of the good ratings for this game are well-deserved!

This art is ADORABLE!! I couldn't open the file, but if you're able to fix it and tag me, I'll come back and give a rating!

🌴 Fantino Island 🌴People delivery service by Scratch 2023-05-02T20:13:23Z

I came back to check up on this game, and I was able to open/play it! As I suspected, the inside graphics are just as cute as the cover art. I'm so impressed with the music and the relaxing atmosphere that you all were able to pull.

I played the game twice to check if the pickups were random and try to figure out if I could help that grandma with her orange tabby (I couldn't 😢). Then after all of the drop-offs were finished I drove around to admire the island. Understanding that the build isn't done, I'd love to see you build it out more!

Speed-run stats - I was able to deliver everyone in 1:41s haha.

@saltysa thanks for the heads up! I didn't know I needed to finish the cat quest to continue, but I was played through it again and was able to finish the game!

SlopDrop by elFlashor 2023-05-09T13:09:05Z

Nice game! I didn't immediately notice the box weight class or what it was until reading your comment, so it might be nice to label that somewhere. I like that you can control the slippery road to adjust for error. I agree with the other comments about faster gameplay features and menu/exit buttons, but you have all of the main parts of it down given it's a one-person team! Congrats on your entry!

Shmelon Fields by osh.studio 2023-05-02T21:10:13Z

I was very curious about the placement of Purrball #9 and #10 and was pleasantly surprised! So cute.

ShmelonFields.JPG

I did, however, forget about the delivery and was trying to stockpile schmelons to feed my growing Purrball army.

ShmelonFields2.JPG

I noticed that the schmelons are a very hardy fruit, and my stockpile stayed on the field after replaying. Great humor and art in your game - congrats on the entry!

Purrfect Delivery by Mashiro 2023-05-08T19:34:07Z

Neat game! I played through 10 levels, replaying many of them until I passed because I kept crashing haha. I remember vaguely in LD51 I played a game called cat.exe (https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/51/$301111) that also featured a cat game on a nostalgic windows pc. That entry had a very different cat game, but the pc menu concept was kind of similar if you wanted to reference it! Also, very impressed by the size of your team and all of the collab it would have taken to push this game out. Cool art, and nice music. I agree with a previous comment about increasing the size of the X on the ad windows, but I didn't have any other issues than that - it was a unique obstacle. Maybe a "speed up" button could be a nice-to-have feature if you're confident in the cat delivery paths, but out of 10 levels I probably would only push that button twice.

Cleopatra's Pizza by Maxnanas 2023-05-10T01:27:20Z

Liked the visuals and the music choice. I did feel as others have mentioned that the low FOV and intense camera tilting during the turns made it a little too disorienting. Being able to see better, as well as have a variable jump height, would allow the player to better plan their route, which would also give the game a more strategic component. Fun interpretation of the theme!

Diseased Dirigible by Falk Hoeppner 2023-05-02T12:42:50Z

"Ok, one more try." - me at midnight yesterday trying to get close to 2:30

My first try where I thought I needed to change the speed and stop on the X's was 17:10, and my more serious tries hovered around 4-5 minutes. I think this setting is really creative! The art goes well will the pirate theming, and the catchphrases were perfect. Very catchy hum song. It would be nice to have a quick restart for when I know I made a wide turn and added 30s to my run - I guess that would be a speed run feature in your possible future items list. Great job!

Rock Paper Scissors Inc. by Weston Goggins 2023-05-03T01:29:20Z

Really amazing level designs! Multiple levels were very perplexing. I was so engrossed in the puzzles that I didn't notice the move counter until lvl 9 and nearly forgot about the undo button until then too, but I'm glad I didn't because they saved me a lot of time in lvls 10-12. My total move count was 1412; I'll need to go back and try to be more cognizant of that counter next time. The RPS/office supply warehouse is a unique setting for this type of puzzle - nice job with the concept! It felt very clean, simple and easy to understand the dynamics. Great execution!

Aerial Express A.M. by fuzzybut 2023-05-02T18:44:56Z

@philocode thanks for the detailed feedback! We agree, the game could use more balancing (there was a physics hiccup right before upload, but it was almost too easy before that anyways). Also, you've found the elusive bug! It's been evading us because we're having a hard time recreating it. And totally with you on the quick restart!

Second Piece by Brovovar 2023-05-10T01:41:40Z

I did manage to beat this game on my third try! I'm not really sure how, though. It seemed like it had something to do with where I was looking? I feel that having multiple tries usually diffuses the tension of moody games like this. The lack of clear directions suggested it should take multiple attempts, but the slow opening and the fact that the game closes if you lose make it seem like it should be completed the first time. Definitely the strong points are the audio and lighting. And doing your own engine certainly seems impressive.

GRAVEYARD SHIFT by deadpixelmadclock 2023-05-10T01:58:03Z

I played this for a while, I liked the responsive controls. I played it for about 10 minutes as a pure platformer before I realized I was supposed to be delivering pizza lol. A few small things could go a long way here, such as making the white projectiles not so fast/moving through walls (very frustrating to jump and get hit by a projectile that just appeared on screen), and making the gaps in the floor look more accurate to their actual hitbox. Good game name!

Impeachment by Kler 2023-05-09T12:46:36Z

Hello! Love the game concept and really like the pun title! I haven't played an escort game in the jam yet, but it is indeed a delivery game. I think I agree with other comments about picking up the crown, so maybe it would be nice to have something like audio feedback for attacks and when the crown is picked up or dropped. The crow movement was so smooth - great job! I think for the various bugs it would be nice to have a few more frames in their movement so the worms don't look like they're flailing, but that's just aesthetic. Nice entry!

Dear friend by hmrpf 2023-05-08T14:25:39Z

Really great job! The art is so beautiful that I keep getting distracted looking at the buildings while flying 😆

Though the ambiance of the game is very relaxing, the actual gameplay is addicting. With the easy control and intuitive game feedback, it was really quick to pick up and learn flight movements. I also appreciate the gradual introduction of obstacle difficulty - nice game design!

I especially want to note that the music is awesome - it fits the mood and captures bird movement perfectly! Very impressive.

Dear friend by hmrpf 2023-05-09T22:30:56Z

I came back to say I played the game a few more times and finally was able to deliver the letter! Thanks for making this game - it's so relaxing and fun :)

I also like your transitions when you restart the flight. I didn't notice it that much last time, but it's a nice touch for polish.

the postBIRB by LarsieVL 2023-05-09T00:12:21Z

Congrats on your first game submission! I was pleasantly surprised with the BIRB movement. I saw your note saying you added some audio, but I couldn't hear anything on the windows file I downloaded. I think this game is a really good effort, especially for a one-person submission on their first jam, so I hope you'll continue to build! It seems like all of the MVP elements are there, but even some simple details like menu fonts can make a big impression for player experience (it was slightly difficult to read). Nice controls and gameplay!

edit: idk what was going on, but I tried it again and the audio worked for me! very relaxing.

Willow & Audrey's Floral Delivery Service by Sarah Pederson 2023-05-10T02:12:06Z

This music was nice, and I needed the calming from it because coming up with these flower delivers so quickly was not calming! I found it almost impossible to finish a deliver in the allotted time. Also as someone who is not so in to flowers, having the flowers I need to find be visible in picture form in the UI would have made this a lot more playable. Hope your team stays together and has more fun!

Time Delivery by Ron88 2023-05-08T18:47:29Z

Fun little game with interesting mechanics! I played through to the end - I can see the level design potential from what you've set up! Nice tutorial, and A+ for pun play. I also agree with the previous comments about visual feedback for the freeze range, but that is a nice-to-have feature. Great work!

Carrie's Diner by Tommy Moua 2023-05-09T14:33:29Z

Good serving game! After playing for a while, I thought I was about done with the day, but I happened across the hire help buttons in the menu and played for a bit longer. Even with more chefs and dishwashers, the bottleneck was really my walking speed when seating people, serving and clearing tables. Since there wasn't any strategy I could do to counter that, I do believe an element is missing for game balance.

Showing the customers to their tables was unexpectedly funny to me, with how they were so stationary haha. I liked the music choice too - very upbeat. The graphics are nice, and so is the game menu. Cool entry!

Mercury's Menace by Philocode 2023-05-02T19:34:27Z

Ok, I won't mention the camera view since everyone else is already saying that 😅 Impressive undertaking for a one-person release, though! My sprint and crouch controls weren't working for me, but I was able to finish the level with opportune walking. I also didn't hear audio when I played, but it didn't take away from the experience since it's a stealth game anyways. Thanks for the entry! Hope you had a fun time making it and continue to build it!

Akoban by KoB-Kirito 2023-05-09T22:53:44Z

Beautiful music, and the story is sweet! I played the game a couple of times to check out the different dialogue options, went to the bar too early, etc. I liked the player name input - nice touch! Overall, it seems like a polished short story game.

Am I your "Type"? by pralista 2023-05-08T18:30:54Z

THIS GAME IS SO COOL!! It reminds me of those type-to-learn games for kids, but a lot more interesting. If I had access to a similar game when I was in grade school, I think I would have quickly become a master haha.

Your concept for this game is unique and creative - I haven't come across this amalgam of gameplay types before. By the way, I LOVE the title pun. Everything was executed very well - the player inputs were responsive and overall smooth. Playing on medium and hard, I was able to pass the first time each. I think you could make the hard level more difficult if you added more long-dialogue cards?

Kudos to the artist; the characters and game objects were very enjoyable and aesthetic.

Playing through, I was thoroughly entertained. I thought the game had good balance, and there's a good level of urgency and control from the player through typing speed. Even if your hand is not very useful, it was easy to type the phrases until you get a useful card. I think it would be nice to see a greater mix of cards - for example, maybe they can have similar/the same metrics as the existing cards, but there could be some greater dialogue variety. Really great entry!

Jitto by osullivp 2023-05-02T19:10:32Z

Hello, nice cover art! I appreciate the game's nostalgia. I played a few rounds and had a high score that hovered at 1000. At first I thought that the packages were spawning in waves, but reading the comments I suppose not. The scenario where a warehouse operative was needed on multiple conveyors at the same time became more frequent as more packages rolled in, and the only strategy I could come up with was to spam up or down after package receipt so that I could make it in time to the next conveyor. It would be nice to have a way to counter that more, but other than that congrats on the entry!

Bunpacking by Chailotl 2023-05-08T14:50:49Z

I like the game concept! I agree with the other comments about the level of difficulty being lower because there weren't any constricting elements like time constraints or damage, but it looks like a good start! In my run, I also stuck to delivering one package at a time because it was faster to rack up points that way.

Package Panic by brick2face 2023-05-08T20:14:34Z

Hello, nice job on your entry! After a couple of tries, I was able to get a perfect level with no dropped packages; my score was 1350 with 27 deliveries. Really cool music, and nice concept!

When I hit replay, the level restarts but packages don't spawn and the timer doesn't budge, so I had to refresh the page. Also, there were a couple of instances where a blue package entered the second purple conveyor while a red package was still on there, so it was difficult (or not possible) to switch the conveyor in time. I couldn't figure out a way to counter that since spam-clicking to switch it didn't work, so it would be nice if the player had an out for that scenario. Same for red-to-blue, green-to-blue and green-to-red combinations.

Love Letters by matthewrf 2023-05-09T18:09:42Z

Especially impressive game for your first jam and a one-person team! Congratulations! 2D platforming is always fun to me. I believe for these types of games there's a large focus on the satisfaction of the movement, and I agree with some of the others that sometimes execute the spacebar double-jump vs. glide timing correctly. The concept is solid and fits the theme. Even though there was no music, the sound effects provided good feedback to the player. The cardinal is quite cute!
