LD51 — Every 10 seconds

Space Hourglass by PatteDeCanaard 2022-10-06T23:09:32Z

Really fun and addictive game! I love both the concept and execution. The art is great, sound design fits well with the mood. Nice use of the theme. I really like the idea of slowing time by adding back sand into the hourglass. I'll definitely add this one to my library. Great job!

Fight The Darkness by Ryan Ackermann 2022-10-06T21:38:15Z

Feels good to play and fun. I really like the light mechanic. The art is also really good. Well done!

Don't Go Into the Light by Jaco van Hemert 2022-10-06T22:46:51Z

Nice platformer that actually gets quite challenging. Jumps are satisfying. I really like the sound design as well as the memories art, it fits the game really well that they are a bit "undefined". Only downside I'd mention is the font, which doesn't really fit in. I think it's too smooth/rounded, maybe a straighter/pixellish font would have been nicer.

Every Ten Seconds Counts by Maaack 2022-10-06T21:59:06Z

Really cool concept and use of the 10sec prompt. As someone else said though, I didn't feel much pressure once inside the building. I'd love to play this game with more timing elements to watch out for. Great job!

LD53 — Delivery

Soul Delivery System by limered 2023-05-06T00:23:11Z

Fun game! I love the grandpa sprite.

As others have said, dominant strategy is to loop on the edges of the map. I also did not see the points in upgrading player speed, as even with base speed you have to slow down to pick up all the souls. You could make the souls faster or their aggro area bigger from the start, but I think it would be very neat if it was available as a purchasable upgrade.

Congrats on your entry, you did a great job for your circumstances!

Pneumatic Postman by klausklapper 2023-05-03T15:48:00Z

Nothing others haven't said here : cool game with a really nice atmosphere!

Onboarding is lacking, but after a couple of tries you quickly become way more efficient once you've figured out the workflow and tube layout. Mouse sensitivity was unfortunately very high for me which made it a bit tricky.

Great job!

Aunt Emmas by gagapete 2023-05-06T11:24:30Z

Fun game, and I love the graphics!

Although compared to the chill gardening experience I expected, this was super stressful, having to run back and forth with such a short day cycle, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

I do wish the phone ringing was less stressful though, and that there was an indicator of time passing during the day, as I was never sure how close to the end of the day I was.

Would also be awesome to have keyboard controls :)

Maily Melo by Blix 2023-05-05T23:33:29Z

I love the art, audio and writing. I found the letters super funny (special mention to AKAB and the insomnia).

I agree with Stefan's 2 nitpicks, I had the same experience/feedback. My own nitpick would be that I found it a bit frustrating to close back the letters, especially when the content was on top, I had to move it out of the way then click on it, it didn't feel intuitive. I would love if you could close them by pressing right-click anywhere instead.

I see some people find there is a lack of a goal. It's true, especially if you want to make it a larger game, but for the current scope it doesn't really bother me. The content of the letters is good enough that I can see it as "the real goal was the letters we sent along the way".

I had a blast, props to the whole team, every aspect feels very polished!

Maily Melo by Blix 2023-05-06T01:29:33Z

Forgot to mention : playing the web version fullscreen, the right side of the game is cut off on my 16:10 screen, probably some resize settings to tweak :)

Message Delivered by velvetlobster 2023-05-06T16:41:08Z

Had a great time playing this!

At first I didn't get that there were more messages than the base 4/folder shown, so I was super confused and thought I should find the information from only these emails. After I read here a bit and figured out there were more, I eventually found the codes without using the "cheat".

I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't find any easter egg (searched for : easter, egg, ludum, dare, jam, delivery (maybe cat email was one?), velvet, lobster). I also wish we could find more foreshadowing of the ending in the emails, but from what I've read it's not a topic that's ever mentioned.

It's a shame that the ending doesn't differ if you send the right code or not, the first time I thought I had figured the code out I was wrong.

I actually think the amount of ways to get to the codes is very reasonable to keep it both feasible and challenging, and the music is perfect for the atmosphere.

Great job, super original entry!

God's plan by Raoph 2023-05-05T11:20:36Z

As everybody says, super chill! It also feels very polished, and I really like rearranging the elements.

However knowing that there was no win/lose condition, I immediately started trying to box in the delivery people hehe. It was actually super hard to do and I never managed to do it completely, I just delayed them.

It contradicts the current vibe of the game, but if you wish to add an objective in the future I would definitely have a blast if the objective was delaying the delivery people as much as possible.

I had a really nice time, thanks!

Kittens: A Tale of Yarn and Woe by FlashViper 2023-05-05T15:32:35Z

Jellyfish made me chuckle. I also found peace, which was really neat!

Very cute concept, fun, love the yarn animations. Overall gameplay feels really satisfying. Great job!

Edit : just read above that you didn't make the music. Please make sure you give proper credit to the source on the game pages! Attribution is important :)

I would also advise you to opt-out of the Audio category in this case, as per the jam rules.

Kittens: A Tale of Yarn and Woe by FlashViper 2023-05-05T21:26:25Z

Oh that's my bad then! I assumed you had taken license free music off somewhere on the internet. If somebody made it specifically for your game during the jam though, I would argue they are just part of your jam team.

Still, it is really neat that you added a credits section, even if your family member doesn't have places to link to. If nothing else, I think it helps other jammers such as myself set their expectations of what a 1/2 person team can do during a jam. Thanks for not being dismissive about this!

Secret definitely made me smile :)

Zeba's Broke!!!! by slimefriend 2023-05-03T14:20:48Z

Really neat game, love the atmosphere! Feels challenging and hectic, yet somehow really soothing and wholesome. Agreed with the wish for an acceptance of new orders that doesn't pause the game.

I also wasn't sure what effect the timer on delivery has exactly, as I eventually realized you can still deliver the food and even get tips after it has run out.

Great job!

WORD DROP by MKRaw 2023-05-03T12:31:27Z

Neat game, very polished!

As others have mentioned, I didn't always succeed in my drag & drop. I think an indication (e.g. letters scaled up/changing color) when you are correctly hovering above the letters would help.

I also would have liked if there was more of a puzzle aspect : there would be more "traps" with multiple possible combinations, but only one enables you to complete all the words (as you discussed above regarding passION/passIVE). In this case, you could drag & drop letters on any word but would not get rejected if your combination is wrong. When you have made all associations, you can't end the game if some are wrong and need to rearrange. But that's very personal.

Great job!

Hellfire Pizza by AploveStudio 2023-05-03T22:30:07Z

After the intro, you have to pick up the pizzas for delivery before hopping onto your scooter. Press E near pizzeria entrance, then pickup the goods with A/D and S. You should see them stacked at the back of the scooter when you hop back on. @jward @ruruie @alpacalypse

Our First Story by Donamougou 2023-05-04T17:14:58Z

Super original entry, I really like that you went for an educational game, and it is a success! My only note would be that the shaking on each "level" completion seems a bit menacing/out of place, as others have mentioned.

Great work!

The King is Dead by Beep Boop 2023-05-03T13:37:04Z

Great game! Loved the atmosphere. Graphics are cool and writing made me chuckle and feel epic. Mechanics are on point. Had to do the tab zoom out trick though, so I would reduce viewport in itch a little.

I also wish there was an indicator of how many days of travels are left until the tomb of kings. I got there and died sadly. It caught me a bit off-guard that you would need resources there as well and death is unavoidable if you don't have them.

Awesome entry!

Mailville by the neon shark 2023-05-05T22:27:45Z

This was super fun! The rendering style is original and really works well. The mechanics felt super satisfying (love the powerglide!) and hitting the mailboxes was very juicy with the sound and bouncing effect.

It took me a bit to figure out what to do with the blue squares. I think I would like to tone down the sound of shooting letters a bit, since it plays so often it becomes a bit heavy. I didn't particularly enjoy the soundtrack, it was a bit too intense/reminiscent of an aerobics class for the context imo, but I'm not sure what I would have instead.

Of course, loved hitting the box people and their angry reaction!

Midnight Muffin Delivery Service by Tyler M 2023-05-03T15:19:49Z

Really cosy game, and quite challenging. I love the visuals, they are gorgeous, and the audio just adds to the charm!

Took me a few test launches to realize there was changing wind and then that the clouds were the indicator.

I didn't really care for the cash, making sure the muffin got delivered was enough of a challenge for me. I also didn't realize grabbing the cash without a successful delivery still grants you points, feels counter-intuitive. I would honestly just get rid of the cash as I find it a bit distracting from the lovely environment and base mechanics, but that's very personal.

My only real complaint is the reset of the screen (fade to black and reset of vehicle positions) after each launch, it gets me out of the flow a bit.

With that said your game is awesome, great job!

Ludum Dare 53 by Beebster Games 2023-05-05T15:02:16Z

Before I read the instructions, I also didn't see the point in attacking skellys and just ran around picking up hearts. After I read them though I really liked the "level up" mechanic and did slay them as they appeared.

I think the game has way too many mines and hearts, but that's arguable. The main issue with the mines currently, is that you give the player no control over them, so it feels unfair. If there was a subtle indicator on the ground that a mine is there, the player can start to pay attention and avoid them by going around or maybe disarm them.

A minor detail that I would correct : when you are holding Move up/down, and then start pressing left/right, the player changes direction. But when holding down left/right, it does nothing to press up/down until you release the previous input. I think it should! It makes it more smooth and enjoyable to move when your most recent keypress is taken into account.

I really liked the boss fight, felt challenging and satisfying to have slayed the skellys to get to this point.

While there are adjustments to be made, you did a great job and incorporated a lot. Keep it up!

The Night Witches by Kultuk 2023-05-03T17:41:25Z

Loved the game! The visuals are very neat, and the audio is so good! Overall they both gives a good atmosphere that fits the narrative very well. I thought the mechanics and movement were nice and I really like the difficulty curve, especially for a game jam. Part of me wishes there was a way to observe enemy patterns before going in, but I also think it makes sense that we're thrown in directly and have to go with the flow without being able to plan ahead too much.

Great job, I had a really fun playthrough!

Yuki's mystery by Sevla 2023-05-04T16:40:54Z

The atmosphere was really nice, however I want to point out that the rules of the jam include the following : "opting out of the Graphics or Audio categories if yours isn’t original."

I am not sure whether your audio is original, but I see you credited another creator for the background assets (only visible on itch), which make up a lot of the game's overall feeling, final product and feedback you're receiving. I personally felt fooled when I realized it, and many people seem to assume that all assets are yours judging from the feedback, so I would advise you to opt-out of the categories in this case.

Otherwise nice entry, definitely felt creepy!

Delivery! NYC by Obe Dot 2023-05-05T13:44:13Z

I'm a sucker for grappling mechanics! This was super fun and I really like the absurdness of the flying trains.

I like the music a lot too, makes the whole thing feel super frantic, it gets me hyped.

I do often encounter get stuck because of bugs(clipping into building/off-map/grapple doesn't work anymore), but until I do this is a blast, congrats!

One Small Puppy by SpaghettiCupcake 2023-05-05T22:08:35Z

That was adorable! The graphics and soundtrack are beautiful.

Neat short experience, put a smile on my face

deliver me from X by konfekt 2023-05-05T22:58:19Z

That was a slap in the face, and I mean that in the best way. Super original entry, was not expecting such a grim atmosphere but I loved it.

I would have liked for the text to generally appear maybe twice as fast, with maybe a few selected lines going slower for emphasis. As it is now I had a tendency to click to accelerate text appearance (which I'm very thankful you implemented) because I kept catching up to it early.

Great use of writing/graphics/audio on their own and as a cohesive whole. Congrats!

Galactic Dropoff by c0010 2023-05-05T23:54:26Z

Super cool mechanic! Love the gravitational pull. Maybe add a visual indicator for its area of effect?

I loved that the ship would go offscreen but I could still send packages, zoom out and watch them drift through the void. Music is also awesome, fit the "lost in space" vibe perfectly.

I got 20/30 stars :)

Dead Deliverance by JimmyMcGinger 2023-05-06T15:23:03Z

Fun game, very neat pixel art and music.

The dash is pretty huge but I liked it. I just wish I could jump with W instead of space. I did not figure out the souls should be brought back to the fire until I read the instructions.

Great job!
