Death is The End by Wren Erickson 2022-04-10T23:48:54Z
I finally got around to playing this, and I'm glad I did. Great work, Wren!

I finally got around to playing this, and I'm glad I did. Great work, Wren!
Love the space art! You've really perfected this style!
Very creative idea and a clean art style!
Very cute art style, and a cool idea!
I love the spooky atmosphere and art style!
I got stuck in a wall, but it was still pretty fun! I liked the environment a lot!
The art looks great! This was a really ambitious project. It's a shame you couldn't finish, but I'm still impressed with the work you were able to complete!
Great work, Adam! I agree with Jezzamon that it would have been more satisfying to see the individual farmers working, though I imagine it might have just been a time constraint. The truck sprite was really cute, and I loved the periodic collection mechanic.
I love your take on the match genre! The aesthetic was great, and the music felt very appropriate. I think you could work a little more to make the mechanics more intuitive like experimenting with animations to show the crops getting harvested for hearts between rounds (maybe they fly into a basket for instance). You could also do more to show the plants benefitting from being next to each other (like a sparkle or glow that scales with larger matches). I could definitely see you guys fleshing this concept out into a full game!
WOW! I'm extremely impressed that this is a compo game! Well done!!!
The game felt very polished and fun! Well done!
The screenshots are pretty, but yeah, the zip link also isn't working for me.
I'm very impressed with the level of polish you were able to achieve! The movement and the tutorial felt very slick!
The game looks and sounds very cool, but I had a hard time understanding how the gameplay works. Maybe it's just user-error, but a lot of the things I clicked on seemed unresponsive, and it wasn't clear to me why.
@shess I just ran it again, and the drag and drop functionality was working for me this time. When I tried it the first time, it wasn't letting me pick anything up from the right side of the menu.
Great work! Your updates made it much easier to find the cats; I really enjoyed your voice-over!
I really liked the pixel art and the music of this game! I imagine it was a time thing, but I would have really loved to see a walk animation on the character sprite. I'm also someone who is sensitive to high-pitched noises, so I recommend editing or swapping out the phone ringing noise (or just using it less often). I hope you continue to push this concept further in the future; this could be the beginning of a really awesome game!
Nice work! I really liked the lighting and flashlight mechanic! If you decide to spend more time on this project I recommend experimenting with limited ammo; I didn't feel as spooked as I could have been because I could just keep firing in circles. The pixel art was awesome!
Very cute and funny game! Such a fun idea!
Very cool idea for a game, and I love the art! The game seemed to get a lot louder during the night section, and maybe that was intentional, but I would personally prefer if the audio were more balanced. But otherwise, very well done!
As someone who is sensitive to noise, the gun sound effect was a little too loud and piecing for me, but this is otherwise a really cool game! I love the art so much!
Very impressive music and visual polish! Good work!
This was fun, and I like the simplicity. Good work!
I think someone else reported this issue already, but I also couldn't get the sled to move until I restarted the game. Once I got it working, I really enjoyed the way the sled controlled, and I thought the crashing physics was fun too! I hope you push this concept further at some point!
Very nice pixel art!
I love the physicality of the boxes and driving on hills! Well done!
I'm not sure why, but the audio wasn't playing for me in the HTML port. It might just be an issue on my end though, so I've left that rating category blank. The gameplay was very polished and satisfying! I sincerely hope you decide to continue with this concept!
My experience with this game involved a lot of time looking at a number in the corner of the screen, which meant I had less time to enjoy your gorgeous art! This is a matter of personal taste, but I think this game could be improved with a Crazy Taxi style gameplay loop (if you decide to both continue working on it and lean into the action part of the game). I would prefer to navigate with an arrow above my character pointing to my goal and one destination at a time for instance. Really awesome art and a cool premise!
Building tracks is a very satisfying mechanic. I like the music and pixel art a lot too!
This was a cute concept, and I'm very impressed with the number of mechanics you were able to create in a short amount of time! I also experienced some camera jittering issues while playing, but this was still very fun. The bees made me laugh :).
My game was also projectile-based, and I coincidentally had camera issues for my web-build. I've read that rounding the position of the projectile can help. It seemed to work for me.
I like the concept! I also kind of like the floaty controls, but I felt a bit motion sick when turning (which is not usual for me). The camera system may need to be tweaked if you decide to push this concept further. I thought being able to see the boxes bouncing around in the back of the van was a really nice touch!
It was a bit unintuitive that the crystals seemed to be both collectible and obstacles, but I enjoyed the art-style!
Wow!!! Really nice art and music! It was fun to swim around just to watch the parallax effect! Cute story too!
Very cool idea! If you continue with this concept in the future, I recommend changing the short and long tones to something a bit more musical so it's more pleasing to the ear.
@kuggenhoffen Thanks! The parachute is affected by wind speed, and there are environmental clues about the speed and trajectory of the wind, but if I had more time, I would have done more to communicate this to the player, possibly with UI.
@reo-silmetal I'm glad you enjoyed the mood of the game; I worked really hard on that! Yeah, I like to make my games difficult to encourage replay-ability, but I understand it's a difficult balance that I'm trying to improve upon. I appreciate your feedback!
@artatruc Yeah, it sounds like I could have implemented the wind system a bit better, but I'm glad you were able to enjoy the game regardless! Thanks for playing!
@edenic666 Thank you so much!
@mitur Nice score!
@lee-martin-77 Thanks a lot! I've considered that, but I think I'd either have to scrap the timing-based power-meter or create a parabola that's constantly changing, and I'm afraid the latter option could look hectic and go against the relaxing aesthetic that I'm going for. Technically I could scrap the timing mechanic for the power-meter, but I'm also fond of that because it introduces challenge and makes my game have more in common with golf games I've played. My hope was that the parachute would give players more control and help them make adjustments to their shot (after getting a feel for how the wind works).
I'm getting flashbacks of my first computer! 0_0 Very interesting concept and amazing art!
I would prefer if there was less friction between dying and getting to fight the boss again, but I still had a lot of fun, and I'm impressed with the pixel art and level of polish!
Very charming game! The drop shadow is a really nice touch!
Very cool game idea and very well executed!
Very charming game and well polished!
Beautiful game and a clever idea! This is the best submission I've seen so far! Excellent work!
What a fun concept for a game! I really like the pixel art! If you decide to continue working on this, I'd like to suggest an undo last step function so a player doesn't always have to start from the beginning if they realize they made a mistake.
Cool game and great pixel art! If you decide to push this game further, my only suggestion would be to edit or replace the phone ringing sound effect. As someone who's sensitive to high-pitched noises, I found it a bit grating after a while.
Very cool game! This will make a great foundation if you decide to make a larger game; good job!
Wow, that was very cool! It definitely spooked me!
Very nice looking game, but I might recommend opting out of the audio category, unless there was audio and I just couldn't hear it. I'd love to see what you all can create if you push the concept further!
I was experiencing a flashing white strobe effect while playing, but I like the sprite art and the blend of 2D assets with the 3D environment! It's a very cute game!
The gameplay loop didn't hook me, but I really enjoyed everything about the visuals!
I love the aesthetic and good on you for finishing! It's very impressive that this is your first Ludum Dare, and I think you should be proud!
The HTML port didn't run for me so I used the desktop version. It was really cute and fun! I adore the pixel art and thought the ending was funny!
Maybe I'm just airheaded, but I'm having a hard time understanding how to do anything other than moving around the map. I really like the art though!
This was a fantastic execution on the theme. I thoroughly enjoyed the spooky atmosphere of the music and graphics, and I appreciate that a walkthrough with hints was provided!
This was a fun and strange experience!
The art was awesome, and it was a fun idea for a game!
Great pixel art, and I like the mobile-friendly design! I hope you'll consider expanding on this idea and adding new mechanics!
