LD54 — Limited Space

Shattered Spirits by Tobius 2023-10-17T01:58:49Z

As has been noted, the goal of the game is not immediately clear but was satisfying once I understood it. I also found it somewhat difficult to distinguish between my units and the AI. The special abilities that were implemented had the potential to be back-breaking for the opponent. Careful positioning could rather effectively allow you to eliminate the other team. The bones of the game are solid. It is definitely a game that would benefit from being able to play against other players and having a proper tutorial.

While it is pretty easy to get "lost" and not progress, there is a certain charm in just experiencing the soundscape and static. It's all the enjoyment of exploring a vast, open-world game but on a granular scale. Ironically, the fact that you are scrubbing through CMYK is both limited and nearly limitless. The game could use some more auditory "sign-posts" but it is an absolute joy.

@devedse @tentacledream @bstabuu The interaction system has received a little love and should be much more reliable and snappy.

@whysguy52 The warning icons for each machine have the same colors as the resource bar they go with.

@lcstark That is an excellent point on the issue of accessibility. Thank you!

@3mpty Thank you! The stamina bar is an indicator of where things were headed. Given the time constraints and being solo, it just wasn't in the cards to balance things so that you had to be more thoughtful about which machines to repair and when. I had also considered including a limited "load-out" of 2 or 3 items that would allow you to repair something for free but that would be consumed upon doing so. There is a fair amount of design space left in this concept.
