great game, very calm and entertaining!! btw nice twerking bro
Pretty fun, smooth control, (played with gamepad.) I started with keyboard and mouse, and then plugged in a gamepad in the main menu and couldn't move with any control type. Had to restart, then it worked fine. Would be cool to add some snow vfx and dog audio as a little polish. For an even fancier feature, wolves that run alongside you in the woods as a threat would be pretty cool.
A little more obstacles would have made it more exciting later on. Nevertheless, good work
@codexzier yeah i know, wish I had more time) Map after the forest is very empty and boring. My bad, I was fixing a game ruining bug after I uploaded my game, but when I posted this I just realized that half of my obstacles was gone... It felt not fair to fix this after a submission hour, so I kept it as it is. Maybe I should fix this, idk. Anyway thanks for playing and commenting!
This has some potential, maybe will more elevation and/or ramps. Nice controls!
@rjdrag thanks! Yeah, I didn't consider to work on a problem of changing gamepads, cause it would take so much time and testing for the problem, that fixes itself by restarting a game, but will happen in pretty specific conditions. I wanted to include so much more features and atmosphere, even started to work on a dynamic reactive sound system, but just hadn't got much time, so here we are =D
nice concept would be cool to see a more complete experience!
@devez yeah! Exactly! As i was testing on a test terrain with more height difference, it felt so much more fun! Feeling of speed is so much better with hills and valleys. I've got distracted and made this level half-baked, so I dug my own grave here... Thanks for playing and for your comment, tho!
@ciderpunk i think I can get some more work done on it in coming weeks and submit it in Extra category. If i'll have a time for this, I'll do it. Thanks for your suggestion! =D
@dexort don't withdraw it from the jam! what you've done is damn impressive for 72 hours! but do carry on working on it :)
@ciderpunk I won't of course =D I'm just thinking about maybe finishing it in spare time. I have much more ambitious ideas in my head and in development, but this game seems just right in scope to be the first game to actually release. Maybe I'm biting more than I can chew again, tho... It's existential as always =D
I delivered it in 185 :) I really liked the controls and the feel of the game. I could totally see this created into a fun open-world concept. Great job!
The hip gyrations made me forget all my problems (and the medicine delivery). And snow games are always appreciated. Thanks for the experience!
Looks very nice
Sorry the game doesn't work for me, the vehicle don't want to move (tried with keyboards and xbox one gamepad) when i press forward I see the animation changing a little bit (let me think the input is detected) but the vehicle don't move
Awesome game, nice forest and good race mechanic. In current iteration, game seen relaxing. I hope you continue this project and made all what you planned. Btw, good job!
@hanaindiana yea! I also thought that it would be cool to roam around in open world or just open sandbox locations. Thanks)
@afroant Thanks for playing! Yea this dude hella dancer =D
@darchankaen Thanks, I'll consider it)
@liven It happens on some machines, idk why, you can try restarting whole game, I heard it helps)
Nice game, great environment. Did have a bug where I couldn't move at the start (think it was because I turned before trying to move forward, fixed by restarting)
@peachtreemcgee thanks! Yeah I started to see more and more people complaining about that bug at the start. I'll check that out later today and maybe upload fixed version. It was not a problem on my machine, but I should test it more, so more people could play.
There was not much to do, but I felt comfortable with the controller, which is actually an achievement.
I know time is our main enemy, so instead of "more content", i'll leave a tip which wouldn't take much to implement: If you recommend using controller instead of keyboard and mouse, make everything accesible from the controler, this includes main manu (Which is only accesible pressing esc), and and starting the game from the controller(If you use unity UI, call the focus tothe first button on start of the scene and if a button is pressed when no button has focus).
@chusmimax thanks for the tip! Yeah it seems nobody makes their menus use the controller. And majority of jammers don't make a way to properly close their game. It can be easily overlooked. I think, next time I should implement it right at the start of the project - good practice.
Loved the audio. The sled sounds and the beautiful terrain made this a relaxing experience.
@rocket-and-blanky thanks! I made sled sound somewhat dynamic with layers, I'm glad you appreciated it)
@dexort it was my favorite part! What did you use to layer it? We did music and voice acting for ours, but I'd love to get deeper into the audio engineering. So many trade-offs in these jams, though!
@rocket-and-blanky oh, it's simple. Just two layers of snowboard sliding on hard snow. One with emphasis on high freqs and deep low-cut for slow riding and just starting. When you build up speed, the second layer opens gradually. It has more lower freqs and highs are suppressed to not conflict with 1st layer. Volume is controlled by 2 curves depending on the speed of the rider. I had a much bigger plan for the sounds in my head, but I didn't have time for that... I started to write ost for this, made some atmosphere sounds (one of the winds is somewhat present now in game, you can just hear it), dynamic dog barking, but just didn't have enough time, unfortunately. I've been making music and sounds for like 9-10 years now and always wanted to represent my skill in these jams, but I focus more on gameplay and feel, and usualy become swallowed by bug fixing and tweaking. Sound makes so much for the game, it's often overlooked and underappreciated... Too bad I'm now part of this, albeit by accident =D
@dexort Ahh, thanks for breaking it down for me! It's great to hear about your experiences, I totally agree about increasing the attention we give to audio engineering. It makes a huge impact on the feel of the game to those that can enjoy it. Our team is only just beginning to tap into what we're capable of and I'm excited to help make our audio quality better in the future. Games are a huge undertaking and what you came up with by yourself is really special.
Really wanted to give this a shot, but even after restarting the game 3 times, pressing W does nothing, my dogs take one like step and then stop. Not sure what's happening (Windows 10 and Linux Mint, doesn't work on any) Didn't rate your game.
@rocket-and-blanky you're welcome! Glad to help)
@iqoribou try latest download, it should be fixed now. Also, try holding W while pressing start, it helped some people.
I think someone else reported this issue already, but I also couldn't get the sled to move until I restarted the game. Once I got it working, I really enjoyed the way the sled controlled, and I thought the crashing physics was fun too! I hope you push this concept further at some point!
The controls are super fun. Its unclear what the objective is though. Ended up just messing around in the forest
@tyler-m thanks! I hope I'll do)
@digx7 yeah you can tell that was pretty much the point) Objective is to have fun as you wish. Take it as a sandbox. Sorta like a tech demo. But the goal is to go towards the Sun, so just forward. =D
That was actually really nice! As a Canadian, I can always appreciate the snow, and the environment as a whole was a lot prettier than I expect out of a Jam game, and the path to follow was well crafted - Not so obvious as to be the only way or clearly carved out, but intuitive and easy enough to flow along, even if you detoured at a point. The movement of the guy on the sled was nice and felt good, and watching him ping off when I reached the snowy lake and thought "I wonder if I can climb that mountain" was a good laugh.
@profugo-barbatus yeah, as a Russian dude, I like myself some snow and forest too. I lived in a forest till i was 21) Glad you had fun expirience, thanks for the review!
Really nice experience and original take on the theme as it is refreshing to see game with dog sledge. Sure there could be more, but for game jam it is quite impressive how big your world is. Unfortunatelly there is authors time missing at the end, but mine was 182, so I hope I was not that bad :D Good job!
@jin9310 thanks! Very pleased to hear) I didn't have time to set the author time, but it's around 170-190, i don't remember. Good job you too =D
Great work, with immersive art. Looking at the snow-covered trees flying by around me, I could feel the wind brushing against my face. Snow is rare in my living environment, so this is a unique experience for me. Thank you to the developers for providing me with this experience.
Managed to deliver the medicine in 197 seconds :D This game has a really cool concept, the idea of running around in a sled pulled by dogs around a tundra is really cool, it seems like it could be really relaxing and refreshing, the only games that really come to mind when I think of that sort of idea is Assassin's Creed 3 due to its setting, but I don't know if they have dog sleds there. The controls were good, I don't use a gamepad, keyboard and mouse only, but the controls were intuitive enough for me to get right. The first couple times I started I just didn't move, so I thought I was pressing the buttons wrong, but after restarting it was fixed. The graphics are actually pretty good, especially for 3 days by a solo dev. Sure the placeholder models for the player and I think dogs are still there, but the environment is really well made and pretty expansive. The sounds are also nice, the sound specifically, I love the sound of the sled dragging through the snow. Having no music and just running through snow really set a nice mood for the game, which I really enjoyed. The theme, while it's loosely connected via the objective, it's really not too different to a racing or exploration game, you don't even see what you're supposed to deliver, so while the game could really fit the theme, getting medicine from other places and delivering it back to the village, in its current state it doesn't. My biggest criticism is a lack of navigation, I had no idea if where I was going was the right place to go or not, though my instinct told me to follow the clearing when it appeared, which it turns out was the right path. Some kind of dotted line or clearer trail guiding the player would've been nice.
Overall, really nice game, great work on the environment and animations for 3 days. The setting and idea is cool, and the mood you set for the game gives it a really nice and relaxing feeling after you get out of the woods and just glide along the snow. The game could guide the player a bit more, maybe with some kind of compass and marker system. Still though, it's really good, great job :)
@yuriscat thanks, glad you've enjoyed! @stellarr2 god damn you've written a whole review here! Thanks alot! About navigation, yeah you're right in the sense of there's not very clear direction. And it is because I didn't have much time. I don't want to make markers or compas just in ui intentionally. I'm personally just tired of how much ui elements in certain games nowadays. I follow this philosophy - if you can make some indication diagetic - you do it that way. This time I've failed at it, but it's ok, let this be a tech demo, I glad that I've done just this much at all =D Thanks for the detailed review!
Good physics, I liked it =)
This is a cool take on the theme and much more unique than most other games which mostly involve some variation on playing delivery man.
The character controller felt polished and was fun to control, and the sound effects really added to the atmosphere thanks to the lack of music and desolate environment.
Good game. I really liked the dog, but when you're respawning sometimes the commands doesn't work. More obstacle would have been great and the fact that you delivered nothing at the end at no one was confusing, but it was a great game.
I love these dogs models. So simple, yet effective
Nice little game, didn't end up finding out where I was supposed to go but it was nice trying to weave my way through the trees without getting hit. Didn't really feel a sense of urgency or that I was delivering anything except for the timer in the corner.
The animation of the character is really cool touch!
