LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Oops, I'm Sinking! by Criobite 2022-04-20T23:04:07Z

I really like the art and music, the mood they create is quite good. The sound design really stands out to me in particular, as it creates a feeling quite authentic to that of being on a ship.

However, as it stands, there isn't much to do apart from repetitively moving from one door another and pressing space. There was no sense of urgency; I played for almost 12 minutes and the ship didn't even come close to sinking

The basic blueprint for some interesting gameplay is all there though- I can see this being a *really* fun overcooked-type game if expanded!

Good job :D

Supplicant - A DOS Text Adventure by rojo 2022-04-21T00:28:31Z

Wow! What an innovative take on the theme! Almost unexpected :D

I really love DOS-style text adventure games, and not only is this one of the richest I have seen in any game jam, but probably one of the best I've ever played, period.

The map took a little getting used to but I found it quite intuitive after a while. The story, depth etc. was all tuned quite well, and even though I wasn't able to make it to the end, I had a really fun time (got very close to the end I think). How you were able to script, code AND organize all of this in just a weekend of hacking is beyond me!

The only critique I have (and perhaps this is a bit of an unpopular suggestion in such games but sue me) would be to add checkpoints, since nearly half of my time was spent trying to backtrack to a previous junction.

Overall, you've created a really solid text adventure game and should be really proud of yourself. Good job!

50 Second Apocalypse by superpokeunicorn 2022-04-10T23:22:35Z

Nice game! Although it has a few quirks that make it seem a bit more unfair than it should be (such as the seemingly random delay between collecting a crystal and spawning the next crystal), I enjoyed playing it and managed to get a score of 80 before dying :D Good job!

Royal Astroid Crush by tiffi 2022-04-09T19:33:53Z

Although I thought the connection to the theme was a bit loose (since theoretically it should be possible to just keep defending the earth forever) that was definitely overshadowed by the really fun gameplay! I think the particle effects are really what stood out most to me, especially given that it's a compo game. Also, the fact that it has a working global leaderboard is really impressive, and the progression is also done very nicely. Good job!

I Hope You Die The Best Death by peter_sc 2022-04-07T15:09:32Z

It's got some very enjoyable dialogue but it doesn't really lead anywhere. Even so, it could have been one of those games where you try out all the different paths to get different endings. Unfortunately the dialogue is static and never really changes, so there's no incentive to start over and try again. With a little bit of tweaking I think it could be a fun game (kind of like that game where you try to kill the astronaut in all those hilarious ways). Good effort!

Need for Sleep by dodormeur 2022-04-09T19:25:36Z

Wow! One of the most innovative and humorous takes on theme I've seen yet. I think the graphics and overall presentation is just phenomenal! And although usually I would point out the lack of any sound as being detrimental to the game, for some reason here it actually feels really fitting so I'll let it be

Overall, good job! I had a lot of fun playing the game.

Block or Bust by 100th_Coin 2022-04-05T02:37:54Z

This might be the first game I've rated so well  I LOVE the overall mood- the graphics remind me of the (now absurd in retrospect) cartoons I used to watch as a kid, and the cool, retro music creates a very disco-ish vibe. This is of course made even better by the absurd plot (remember that time when the Blockbuster manager was outed for running a dinosaur cave underground?) and it's absolutely ridiculously tasks. Good job!!!

Dont Sleep by PhoenixofForce 2022-04-21T13:23:53Z

Bit simplistic but fun! I really love the graphics- it's clear most of the experience is compacted into looking at the character do weird and funky stuff, so it's great that the graphics are well made. As for the gameplay, I wasn't really able to figure out how the player loses or what is inevitable (I ended up winning). That aside though, it's an enjoyable game, and very impressive for the timeframe it was made in. Good job!

Annihilation by Schuster 2022-04-07T15:27:37Z

Great game! The graphics were perfect for the very absurd concept and sound design complemented the rest of the game really well. My only critique would be the lack of a "score" counter- since the annihilation of the Earth is purportedly "inevitable", wanting to beat your high score would make for a good incentive to replay the game. Even though it's possible this might have been a conscious design decision rather than a result of the time constraints, I think the game could really benefit from having a bit more than just the two existing abilities. Maybe you unlock new abilities as time goes on? I suppose that's more than can be expected for a compo game lol.

Overall, good job! I had a lot of fun playing and think it could be something you can release on Steam with just a bit more polish :D

Into The Light by Yorsh 2022-04-09T03:29:46Z

Although I found the connection to the theme to be quite loose, I really enjoyed playing it and think the music and graphics build up the mood really well. Good job!

Shades of Deception by AMastryukov 2022-04-13T21:21:27Z

Wow! A neo-crime thriller in a 72-hour game jam? Almost unexpected :D

The graphics, audio work, and story are all incredibly impressive for the short timeframe. My single issue would be with the lackluster connection to the theme. I can't figure out what it is I was delaying. Other than that though, awesome game. Good job!

Cristalia Time by Luis Felipe Patrocinio 2022-04-10T17:03:32Z

I'm a sucker for post processing, so naturally I absolutely adore the graphics! The sound design was done pretty well too and I think it's astonishing the jam doesn't have more rogue-like games given the theme. My only critiques would be:

1) Please add a tutorial! It can be really hard to figure out what to do without one.

2) I understand it's a stylistic choice but the font can make it really hard to read some of the text. The rest of the UI is done amazingly well though.

3) There really is no reason to choose anyone other than the Wizard :P

Everything considered though, it's absurd what you guys were able to accomplish in 72 hours. Congrats on making what is definitely one of the most polished games in the jam! :D

The Inevitable Snowman by LaneDavis 2022-04-10T17:33:18Z

REALLY enjoyed this one! The graphics, UI, audio etc. are all done phenomenally! The gameplay loop is also quite fun. My *only* critique would be that the jumps often feel a bit too weighty. Other than that though, definitely one of the best games I've played so far :D Good job!

The Climber by Necdilzor 2022-04-14T23:36:16Z

Simple, nice game, although it has quite a few flaws.

1) The fun in such games is hidden in the chaotic feeling of jumping from platform to platform. This game, however, is extremely easy, owing to the very slow camera speed. In fact, I was able to win on my first try (which felt pretty nice lol)! That however brings me to the next flaw I found:

2) The connection to the theme is, for lack of a better word, missing. Since it's a winnable game, I'm not quite sure what inevitable thing the player is delaying.

3) This is somewhat minor in comparison to the previous ones, but about half the time I spent playing the game, I was stuck to the top of the screen, waiting for the camera to progress so I can move to the next rung. Although I understand this was a conscious design choice owing to the balancing, it could once again be fixed by making the camera speed scale with time.

Overall, it's a good effort! I liked the graphics and found the audio to be easily the best part of the game. I think with some much needed polish, I can see it being a nice little mobile game :D Good job!

That's a Wrap! A game about Death. by niterich 2022-04-05T20:24:19Z

Wow! Although incredibly simple in both concept and execution, I think this might be the best interpretation of the theme I've seen yet :D

I really loved how the trees and music changed over time to reflect the state of life itself at each of it's various stages, and it even formed a nice little gameplay loop near the end. Good job!

Getting Old by erkerkiii 2022-04-04T20:56:06Z

It's a fun little (slightly generic) shooter! Enjoyed my time with it. Good job :D

Tax Haven by Weirdybeardyman 2022-04-07T15:37:21Z

I love the spin on classic chase games with the "net" mechanic and think the game fits in with the theme perfectly. Probably one of the most fun games I've played yet! I've got no critiques to dish. Graphics are cute, audio is impeccable, bugs are non-existent... good job!

Delay Ludum Dare (Browser Extension) by Vladadamm 2022-04-06T13:23:43Z

Five stars for innovation! :D

Wipeout by TheMoonrise 2022-04-07T15:51:06Z

Great game with some very fun gameplay. It's clear everyone did their job well, since the graphics, audio, etc. were all impeccably polished for something made in a weekend! However, I felt personally that the connection to the theme is quite loose, given that you can't really "delay" the wave so much as make as many points before it hits. With a bit of tweaking (like perhaps more styling = faster surfing) it can be a really good game. Great job!

Till the Cards Come Home by Lucas Guimaraes 2022-04-04T22:39:13Z

Good job on the game!

If I had to give feedback, it would definitely be to add a tutorial (as well as clarifying the connection to the theme). I didn't really know what to do or how to move, and am still not sure whether it's the black balls that kill me or the red balls.

That said, I thought the particle and parallax effects were really innovative :D Great effort!

Delaying Death by gabbeeder 2022-04-09T17:23:36Z

Great game! I really love the mood created by the graphics and sound design. That said, I think the connection to the theme is a bit loose, although it's more than made up for by the unique gameplay. The only other critique I would have is the bugs- I understand it's made in 72 hours, and as such, some bugs are to be expected, but I could never get past the second wave without my player loosing all movement and shooting abilities. Overall though, I had a lot of fun, so good job!

SUNSTAMEN by Jasper Hansen 2022-04-04T23:00:14Z

Great game! I'll admit initially I was a bit wary given the dubiously small window, but as I played it I began to like it more and more :D

That said, a few pieces of feedback.

1. The tutorial - I understand it is allowed in the jam, but (despite the humorous remarks sprinkled in throughout the file), having to read instructions from a text file for a visual game just isn't *fun*. At the very least, consider attaching images to the text (to make it stick in the player's head). After all, it *is* a time based game, and coming back to see all the sunlight depleted after you switched to the text file for some help can be quite frustrating.

2. Even though it put me in "debt", I found I could just buy a ton of stuff and fill the entire garden with no limit whatsoever.

3. In it's current form, although fun and quite frantic, the game doesn't encourage the player to try again (despite the obvious repeatability). Why? Well, because there's no score counter, or some text displaying how many seconds you lasted. This is key for such a game IMO

Don't be discouraged by the critique though; it's only one part of the feedback. Overall, I really like it, and think it's a nice little spin on an oversaturated genre :D Good job!

Tin Can by Hiku 2022-04-06T21:23:09Z

Nice game! Although I played for quite a while and managed to get to about 9 million km before dying, for most of the time I was completely unaware of what exactly it is I was supposed to do. With some basic in-game explanations, bump to the graphics, and sound effects (other than the stellar music of course :P ), I think this could make for a really fun simulator. Good job!

Btw I would appreciate if you could give my game a shot as well

Rising wind Island by ShivArt 2022-04-04T23:11:52Z

Incredulously fun!!! I can't believe you made this all by yourself in 48 hours  Perhaps I should take a note or too from this book

In terms of feedback, despite the time constraints that come with taking part in the compo event, I would encourage adding a tutorial. Not only can it be daunting and discouraging to be greeted by a barrage of icons and graphics immediately upon starting a game, but it can prevent situations like mine where I didn't realize the "person limit" until too late and had to start over to unlock the miner.

Also, I found that, since it's technically possible to "win" the game, there wasn't really a "delay the inevitable" aspect to it.

That, however, is a very minor nitpick that doesn't really relate to the quality of the gameplay itself. Speaking of this, did I mention the gameplay is near perfect? :D The balancing, game feel, etc... everything is done extremely well. Easily the best game I've played in the jam so far. Great job!!!

The End by pommicket 2022-04-10T17:08:07Z

I really like the game, although I can't rate it :(

Out of Breath by raptor851 2022-04-08T02:15:29Z

Nice puzzle platformer hindered slightly by technical constraints. As you mentioned in the description, some of the hitboxes are very hard to interact with, and the lack of sound makes it boring to play (given that most of the gameplay is moving between doors). With some polish it can be a really fun entry though. Good job!

Monkey Seen, Monkey Screwed by Roolow 2022-04-07T12:57:32Z

Nice game! Seeing as it's a jam submission I really feel it should have had an in-game tutorial explaining what to do, but once I got the hang of it it was fun. Good job!

Vine Dash by Taximan981 2022-04-14T15:11:17Z

The gameplay and graphics are quite nice, although I found the connection to the theme to be exceedingly loose. IMO simply making a score-chasing game doesn't qualify as fitting the theme- in my eyes, death must be *principally* inevitable, which isn't the case here. Other than that though, it's a fun, simple game. I really liked the animations yourself and to be honest I'm impressed you made all the audio yourself! Good job :D

The Mark of Time by DKMK100 2022-04-08T02:38:53Z

Although it's an enjoyable spin on a somewhat generic concept, I think you spent a bit too much time focusing on the menu and such as opposed to the actual game itself. Personally I found the core gameplay to be a bit too simplistic for my taste, lacking good game feel like visual feedback/hit indicators and sound effects. That said it's a compo game so I suppose the shortcomings are still somewhat acceptable :D

As I mentioned earlier though, I did enjoy playing it, and think that with a bit of polish and some content expansions it could be a really fun game. Good job!

ORANGE ROLL 🍊 by Yokin 2022-04-10T04:58:29Z

I had a lot of fun playing and found the game to be quite humorous. That said, I'm not quite sure what the connection to the theme "Delay the Inevitable" is.

Unladen Penguin by ComicSans 2022-04-05T02:27:09Z

Despite it's flaws (notably a lack of music, control and sense of urgency), I had fun playing the game. Good job!

Neon Meltdown by Milan8890 2022-04-12T13:14:28Z

Fun game! Although it isn't technically "inevitable", I like the concept. That said, I think it has a major flaw: the small bullets, janky movement and slow rotation speed are all antithetical to the very slow fire rate. It feels very frustrating to miss a shot and have to wait an entire second for the next one to be fired. With a bit more polish, I think it can be a really enjoyable space shooter! Good job :D

Meteor Power by UkuleleFury 2022-04-05T20:17:16Z

Although the connection to the theme is a bit lacking since the power can technically be increased enough to build a self-sustaining base, the game really shines on the technical side. The graphics, audio, UI/UX, etc. is all on another level for something finished in only 48 hours! Besides what I've mentioned about the theme already, the only other critique I have for this game would be to include a tutorial (despite the time constraints this would have been a good investment seeing as I spent the first 10 minutes or so just figuring out how to play)! That said, once I got the hang of things, I thoroughly enjoyed both the levels and thought it was a nice, innovative spin on the classic platformer. Good job!

Softness by krakadushka 2022-04-08T02:19:51Z

I don't speak Russian so needless to say I couldn't really play the game any more than reaching the wolf. That said, the graphic and sound design work is phenomenal, and I genuinely would love for it to be translated into English. Good job!

Help! My Cats Become a Demon Lord! by Profugo Barbatus 2022-04-10T23:11:19Z

Nice, cute entry. Balancing is done a bit frustratingly and the UI is quite tight, but for the time it's made in, not too bad.

Hypercrastinate by PizzArt64 2022-04-06T16:44:31Z

The graphics were cute, gameplay was fun and concept was interesting! Only critique I have would be to add some pretext as to what is happening, since I'm still not entirely sure what the game is about. Good job!

Hard Light by Guardaro 2022-04-07T02:46:10Z

One of the few games I'm gonna keep after the jam! I really enjoyed the very simply gameplay loop in this one, and the graphics and sound design was perfect in setting up the mood. Good job!

Click to Continue by Daniel Foutz 2022-04-11T15:21:01Z

You know what? Sure, Burgulon games made an entire game with 24 levels in 3 days. But does their game give me a headless little friend? ***no***. It does not! This clearly wins.

Seriously I really enjoyed playing, five stars everywhere!

*Only* issue I have is that it seems the game is a bit zoomed in, since the title text for each "slide" is being clipped by the top of the screen. Not sure if this intentional but it looked kind of weird to me. Still pretty good game though!

Glue Bot Galaxy by J-fret 2022-04-05T01:21:24Z

The game looks interesting but the itch.io link is broken. Lmk when it's back up and I'll give it a shot!

Oh No My Trophy by zimny11 2022-04-19T23:51:36Z

Neat game! I really enjoyed playing and thought the connection to the theme is done quite well :D The graphics, audio etc. are all nice too, so the only feedback I have is regarding the gameplay- it feels like a simple mouse-pointing duck-hunt type game, since the resources required to use the abilities are quite scarce and have a negligible impact on the gameplay. I also think the that, despite the clear effort that went into it, the tutorial was a bit crude, and could *really* have benefited from some text.

That said, I think the balancing with AI was just right, and I still had a lot of fun! Really impressive that you were able to make all this while in the compo- I participated in it too and made something maybe half as good as yours  Good job!

Somnokid by Saturnyoshi 2022-04-10T17:48:27Z

Without a doubt the best game I've played so far in the jam. It goes without saying that the graphics, sound design, music, UI, etc. are all polished beyond belief for something made in 72 hours. Moreover, this is perhaps the most innovative yet fitting take on the theme I've seen yet! AMAZING job :D

Somnokid by Saturnyoshi 2022-04-10T17:48:27Z

* for whatever reason LD decided to duplicate my comment

1 Man 6 Bullets by Raphaeltan 2022-04-13T15:50:32Z

One of the most polished games I've played so far! I *really* enjoyed my time, and this is one of the few games I'll save to play later :D

That said, like any game, it does have a few flaws. Firstly, I think the connection to the theme is a bit loose, since in theory it should be possible to just keep collecting the ammo, hence making death not inevitable. Maybe scale the difficulty up with time?

Another minor flaw is the level design. There's no incentive to switch rooms, so for my score of 2600 I just stayed in one room and shot the enemies whenever they either spawned from the spawn point or entered through the single entrance. Once again, I think making the curve of difficulty/time steeper would partially solve this issue.

My last concern is purely subjective. I'm a stickler for post processing. I still found it to be a tad on the extreme in this game. Although I understand it's a stylistic choice, the intense chromatic aberration and seemingly flashing vignette makes it hard to see anything that isn't in the immediate center of the screen, which is kind of antithetical to the whole "plan ahead, calculate shots" gameplay of the game.

Those few minor issues aside though, this is an extremely fun and addictive game, and I would *love* to see this expanded into a full release. Good job!!! :D

P.S I don't know if you guys made it yourself but the music SLAPS :fire:

Asteroid by DevParty 2022-04-04T21:31:58Z

Great game! I really love how the music speeds up as the asteroid gets closed. Perhaps this is something I should have implemented in my game as well

Graphics are also quite nice and the overall game feel is definitely there. The only piece of feedback I have is to add an option to revisit the tutorial, as I pretty much forgot how to the play the game immediately and had to go into incognito mode to watch it again.

Overall, good job! I had fun playing the game :D

Ground From Under Feet by wild_fat 2022-04-09T21:26:31Z

It can be a bit confusing at first due to the lack of a tutorial (and the description being really, really vague), but once I got the hang of it I had a lot of fun! The hyperjump feels pretty satisfying, although perhaps there should be a bit of visual feedback for when the cooldown mechanic actually "cools down" a platform. Overall though, it's a pretty cool game for something made in 72 hours, so good job!

AIRTIME! by Manny Mallea 2022-04-16T15:26:35Z

Nice game! I really like the idea and think it fits the theme perfectly. The animations, graphics, audio etc. were also all done very well. One of the few games where I don't have much critique to give! Good job :D

Oedipus Rex by Brachistosauro 2022-04-12T20:12:04Z

One of the best, most innovative takes I've seen so far! A text adventure where you attempt to circumvent your prophecy :D The execution is done quite well too. I really like the poetic way the text is written! It fits in with the moody setting. I just wish (despite the time constraints) there was some music to accompany this moody dialogue, for then the game would truly be complete. Don't let that discourage you though- I *really* liked what I played! Good job.

Gone Out by Bea 2022-04-10T23:33:51Z

I think it goes without saying that the mood created by the phenomenal work on the graphics and audio side is by far the best part of this game! Don't get me wrong, it's a fairly innovative idea; I just think the technical side is somewhat wasted on such a simply gameplay loop. Adding things to do other than just "walk, collect stick, drop into fire" would really elevate this to the next level!

Terra Defensio by MrchickenBoy 2022-04-10T18:08:25Z

I'm a sucker for post processing, so naturally I loved the graphics  I really think you knocked it out of the park with the sound design, and the music was amazing especially considering the fact that it's a compo game. And despite the simplistic gameplay loop, I had a lot of fun trying to beat my high score! Good job :D

Spark Boy by Joshua Steward 2022-04-11T02:34:25Z

Nice platformer! Really impressive how many puzzles you guys managed to create in the short timespan given :D However, most of the time I was quite confused on what it is I'm supposed to do. There should be some visual indicators for which way the player is supposed to head, feedback for when they complete a level, etc. Other than that though, I had fun! Good job.

Save Your Soul by Evileptic 2022-04-05T20:06:59Z

I'm not sure what I did to make the first door unlock but once it did I simply collected the colourful tubes, placed them into their sockets, and the game ended. Is there something I'm missing? In it's current state I think the game lacks a connection to theme and overarching gameplay mechanics. That said, I thought the choice of music, combined with the assets and movement system made for a really nice mood. Good effort!

The Endgame by Daniel Dewaswala 2022-04-10T04:54:02Z

Although the WebGL build is quite laggy, once I downloaded the Windows version I was able to play just fine. It's a fun, simple space shooter. What's not to like? :D Good job

Lava Hop by BarelyEvenGames 2022-04-10T04:35:31Z

Fun game, although it doesn't really relate to the theme much, seeing as it's *technically* possible to just "play forever" and hence not inevitably die.

Ludum Dare by She Wrote 2022-04-07T23:30:59Z

Probably one of the most innovative takes on the theme I've seen yet! I really dig everything from the cutesy artstyle to the well thought sound design. The gameplay was also quite interesting without getting too repetitive, and I think it makes for a really fun and polished game overall (especially since it's a compo submission!)

Good job :D

Planet Hopper by Adam Gallina 2022-04-15T16:39:39Z

Being a jam game, I really thought it should have some audio to give it some life. It's a fun RPG-type shooter, although I think the biggest issue stems from the loose connection to the theme- it wasn't really explained how I was to "delay" the mothership. The balancing is done very well though, and other than the aforementioned flaws, I enjoyed my time! Good job :D

EVERYTHING MUST GO (LD 50) by Cloud Studios 2022-04-12T23:10:48Z

It's an interesting concept, although the execution has some flaws, the biggest of which is the bugs. More often than not, pressing space just drops an item where it is, and sometimes the player randomly dies without actually colliding with anyone. My other big complaint I suppose would be the lack of a concrete connection to the theme. If we were to suppose that our aim is to "delay" the closing of the store, wouldn't we want to *not* sell the remaining 20 items? It's likely I'm missing something so just correct me if I'm wrong :D

Don't get me wrong though. When the game does work, it can be quite fun. With a bit of polishing and a clearer description, this can be a really enjoyable entry. Good job!

Space Ninja by mhorth 2022-04-20T14:58:46Z

I LOVE the effects. It's clear the game is *heavily* polished! End game screen was also quite nice.

The main issue I have with it lies in the gameplay itself- as I'm sure you have already discovered, the best strategy is to simply swipe back and forth across the screen right above the planet. I think this could have been circumvented by making the asteroids spawn in from various areas around the Earth, as opposed to just the top (this would also make more sense narratively).

The other issue I have is slightly less serious, as it doesn't concern the player experience itself- the interpretation of the theme. Although I found the Fruit Ninja like mechanics to be quite enjoyable, IMO simply making a score chasing game isn't the best fit for "delaying the inevitable", especially since it isn't tecnically "inevitable".

Nitpicks aside though, it's a really fun experience, and you guys should be really proud of what you have accomplished in the short timeframe given. Good job! :D

Clockwork by Olsie 2022-04-18T16:35:36Z

Really solid game! I like the very simplistic gameplay design and think it fits perfectly with the theme. The progression of the chaotic-ness is fun as well. Could use a bit more polish on the audio side (like more feedback for when a cog is acquired etc.) but overall, the graphics and sound design were done quite nicely. Good job!

Dads don't die by kremlebot 2022-04-10T04:46:19Z

One of the best, most innovative and creative takes I've seen so far! Really enjoyed the mood created by the perfect OST and artwork. The intro cutscene was also quite good in setting up the story without giving away the game to the player. Good job!

Chasin' Dreams by AnimalX 2022-04-08T12:51:51Z

Really fun game! Although the general setting and mechanics are a bit unclear (like why the time you have for your mom to chase you changes as you eat the time things) I think the idea is still a perfect fit for the theme and I really enjoyed playing it. Good job :)

Really interesting take on the theme! I had a lot of fun playing and can totally see this being a fully fledged story-based Steam release :D Good job!

The Adventures of: π‘Ίπ’π’Šπ’‘π’‘π’š 𝑱𝒐𝒆 by SephoWepho 2022-04-09T17:33:27Z

Got to a high score of 3500 so I think it's safe to say I have a lot of fun playing the game  That said, like any game, it (in my opinion) a few flaws.

1) The movement's time scale is so slow it feels kind of floaty at times.

2) I would argue that, since it's an "endless runner", death *technically* isn't inevitable, and hence the connection to the theme can be a bit loose.

Don't let those nitpicks fool you though- overall, I think the art and music is really well produced, and love how the levels are generated procedurally despite the game being made in just a few days. Good job!

Btw I would appreciate if you could give my game a shot too :D

Leaf the Ghost behind by BiOs3008 2022-04-14T00:53:50Z

I've seen a surprisingly low amount of platformers so far in the jam and I think there's a reason for it- the theme simply doesn't lend itself to such linear games. It kind of felt like the only thing I had to do was hold the D key and jump/change directions once in a while. I didn't feel like *I* was delaying the inevitable so much so as the *game* was delaying the inevitable.

My other critique doesn't have so much to do with the gameplay itself as it does with the player- the game is *very* laggy on WebGL, and this is with hardware acceleration on. I feel like half the challenge came solely from the heavy input delay alone!

The graphics on the other hand were quite good! Although the artstyle was inconsistent at times (the 2D cut-out look should have been given to everything or nothing at all IMO) I really liked it overall! The sound design was also done well.

When the game worked as intended, it was enjoyable, so I really think that, with a bit of polishing and reworking of the levels, this can be a really fun and addictive mobile type game (owing to the limited controls)! Good job :D

γ€ŒWhen The Death Arrives」 by roccay 2022-04-20T12:41:46Z

Nice game! It's a really innovative idea and I had a fun time- my favourite part was balancing the powerups with the death things. I also like that it fit the theme both mechanically and thematically! Not much to critique, good job!

Hi! Just letting you know that you probably need to include some build files along with the .exe itself :)

Just run! by Piotrax 2022-04-08T02:28:49Z

Nice game! I think the concept is the perfect embodiment of the theme and had lots of fun playing it. Really cool that you were able to make a completely procedural level generator and do all this in just a weekend. Good job!

the pond by Misfire_dev 2022-04-10T16:29:34Z

Great game! I *really* love the atmosphere created by the art style and music choices. Gameplay was good too! Although it was fun to discover what it is the player has to do, I feel like the game is hindred a bit by some of these design choices. I also think it could fit in slightly better with the theme (technically it isn't really "inevitable", seeing as it's possible to reach the end). That said, overall, I enjoyed playing the game. Good job!

Gods of Discord by Ghatazorg 2022-04-04T22:21:23Z

Nice game! Although I found the connection to the theme to be a bit lacking, the game was very funny overall and I thought it had a lot of content for something produced in 48 hours. Good job!

Drag For Life by zlitch 2022-04-10T15:38:38Z

Fun game! Really loved the puzzles, although I kind of hope the rope movement would be a bit more fluid and responsive. Graphics were good too, for a compo game. Good job :D

Journey in Spacetime: A Text Adventure by shortCreative 2022-04-12T19:58:39Z

Great game! I really like how the connection to the theme is slowly revealed to the player, and although I didn't quite understand the ending I got, I found the story to be interesting nonethless. I tried getting other "endings" but always ended at the same place. Perhaps make the order of the choices have more effect? I also found it a bit weird when the audio suddenly cut off and restarted after certain dialogue. Overall though, I enjoyed my time. Good job!

Don't Grow Up! by adangtran 2022-04-05T02:22:49Z

Great game! I had a lot of fun playing the different puzzles, and for once it was refreshing to see a different, more humorous take on the theme :D Good job!

1868 by Andy Beers 2022-04-07T15:18:45Z

It's a nice innovative game, I found some of the mini games to be quite frustrating. For example, in the court, the moment you grab a voter, the next one gets sent without any delay in between; pressing the wrong key immediately deletes that voter and sends in the next one as opposed to completing it's round (which is how the player expects it to work). I also thought the graphics could've been just a bit better (despite it being a compo game). That said, despite it's many flaws, I had fun trying to get to Day 2. Good job!

Nyan Tower by sacredyouma 2022-04-13T21:51:18Z

Fun game! The connection to the theme was a bit loose, seeing as it technically isn't "inevitable" that the cat will be woken up, but other than that I think it's pretty much perfect. The idea is really innovative and the game is designed quite well too. Good job in making all the graphics and audio by yourself in that timeframe btw! Overall, it's an enjoyable little concept. I would love to see it expanded into a full game!

Btw, I ended up getting a score of 1654! Quite happy :D

@david-york Thanks for the feedback! Yes, I have told by others as well that the opening is too long. Perhaps I should have split the story and instructions into two separate parts lol. Will play your game soon!

AstroPhysical by Arihan10 2022-04-04T21:20:18Z

@devparty Thank you for the feedback! I'm playing your game right now, and you're right! It's similar to mine but even better :D Good job!

AstroPhysical by Arihan10 2022-04-04T21:22:53Z

@muriel Thank you for the detailed feedback! I intentionally designed the mechanics so you could do multiple at the same time :D Was going for a single player overcooked-type feel. And the piano idea sounds great lol

AstroPhysical by Arihan10 2022-04-04T21:23:52Z

@thedevatlas Thanks for the feedback! Hopefully I'll have time to expand this into a full game with rounds and asteroid waves. Maybe I'm getting too far ahead of myself

@remco Thanks for the feedback and kind words! I tried as much as I could to make the game feel balanced with the abilities but I guess I ended up kind of undervaluing them in the end

And thanks for informing me about the nuke bug! That was a scenario I had (for whatever reason) not considered and will be sure to fix soon

@rhoka I think in retrospect it's clear I overestimated the player (as most new developers usually do ) Perhaps in the next (mobile) iteration I will reduce the values across the board for the abilities. Thanks for the feedback!

AstroPhysical by Arihan10 2022-04-09T19:16:22Z

AstroPhysical by Arihan10 2022-04-12T23:49:27Z

@guoboism Hi there! How to get the resources was explained in the tutorial but I understand it can be difficult to visualize the instructions :( Please allow me the courtesy of walking you through the game!

To "Nuke", you need 15 ore. Mine uranium by clicking the circles in the bottom-left "green" box, and then "fill" it by clicking the red "FILL" button in the ore tank in the far-right.

Missiles auto-replenish their resources over time (Steel).

To use the Solar Beam, you need 10 MWs of energy. To get this energy, simply line up the moving green line with the white one and press space! Each successful lineup is +1 MW.

As for the Gravity Tractors, their cost changes after each use, and is labelled beneath the button.

I really hope you can give it another try and please let me know if this helped! :D

@poontangular Thank you for the feedback! It was my first time experimenting with music so I understand if it has a ton of issues  The tutorial was also quite rushed, I basically created it entirely during the submission time so it can be quite crude. Glad you were able to enjoy :D

AstroPhysical by Arihan10 2022-04-20T23:44:09Z

@mhorth Thank you so much for the kind words and feedback! One of my biggest regrets is how little the weapons impact the asteroids :( After the jam finishes tomorrow, I'll definitely be uploading a much more balanced version! The "destroy after size" idea is great and I actually had implemented it initially, but realized it's then possible to thwart the asteroid's impact entirely

Btw congrats on the 130! Beats my personal best of 128 :D I believe another streamer once got a score of 150 by exploiting the tractors lol

I Sink Not by eeldam 2022-04-20T01:15:13Z

Solid entry! I love the art and music- just builds such a calming and perfect mood for a sailor-type game :D The only feedback I have is that the timescale could have been a bit faster, to create that overcooked-type sense of urgency I suspect you guys were going for.

Oh and also I managed to turn on the (surprisingly polished ) debug log by pressing "D" lol. Might wanna fix that.

Overall though, good job! I had a lot of fun playing and got to a high score of 5356.

Last Moment by Finn Pickart 2022-04-06T22:32:42Z

Probably one of the cutest games I've played yet! Although I felt it could have been a bit more innovative with how the happiness mechanic is implemented, the mood of the game more than makes up for it :D You guys did a perfect job with the art style and audio. There was even something resembling a puzzle at either ends of the map. Good job!

Delay of the Death by Jonathan Volpi 2022-04-13T20:34:57Z

Nice game although the concept and execution are a bit lacking. Since there is no control about what the user picks up or doesn't, the gameplay boils down to just jumping over obstacles (and hence the "twist" element is removed). Perhaps adding multiple lanes like a game such as Subway Surfers would add a much needed layer of depth and complexity to the game. Graphics are nice though! Not sure if you made it yourself but I really like the music.

Escape Horizon by FrozenTea 2022-04-21T03:19:34Z

Nice game! I don't know if you made it yourself but I REALLY like the gravity field distortion effect- it just looks so trippy!

The gameplay was fun enough and I was able to grasp the core mechanics pretty quickly. Maybe a bit of polish around the edges and some extra content/mechanics would have helped, but overall there's not much to critique- it's a solid game! Good job.

suffocate by Sam Feng 2022-04-05T02:00:59Z

The main mechanic of having to manually respirate is really interesting, and the way you have integrated it into your story is really cool! I can totally feel the vibe of existentiality you guys were going for, and think you've built it up with the gorgeous art assets and music *wonderfully*. Great job!

Battery Buisness by Smoofy 2022-04-10T16:14:58Z

Great game! Haven't seen too many Scratch entries before but I really enjoyed the simple gameplay loop and thought it fit quite well with the theme. Keep going this way and you definitely have a bright future in game development :D Good job!

Last Night at Tax fraud by iMadislol 2022-04-04T20:35:47Z

Nice game! Although I felt the theme wasn't really too overt in this one (technically it should be possible to just evade the tax man forever), the concept felt fresh and the implementation was fun. Great voice acting by the way :D

I Am Coward by poontangular 2022-04-20T14:34:39Z

Nice game! The idea is interesting and quite unique, although I quickly discovered the best strategy was to just keep spamming the left mouse button at about a 25 degree angle

I understand the art style you were going for, but the graphics still seem a bit lackluster to me... there's also a bug where the bodies simply fall though to the bottom sometimes.

Overall, the game struck me as somewhat unintentionally humorous, and I think with a bit more polish on the technical side (including of course audio!) it can be a fun game. Good job!

Death, Taxes, and Bananas by markymark 2022-04-05T01:19:29Z

I ended up playing this one for wayy longer than I originally anticipated  I think, despite the generic shooter vibes, the mood created by the very humorous tone is really what sells it. Good job!

Dave's Diet by ASize7Shoe 2022-04-06T23:01:43Z

I really enjoyed playing this one! Although I understand you didn't make any of the art or music yourself, some credit has to be given for the choice- it all creates just the perfect mood! My only critiques would be:

1) The movement. I understand it was probably to add some spice to the game but the sheer slipperiness feels very unnatural. Maybe reduce the slipperiness at the cost of the movement speed to compensate?

2) I felt the connection to the theme was quite loose, seeing as it's very much possible to "win" the game and not delay anything at all.

That said, as I mentioned earlier, I had a lot of fun with it, so good job!

Fading Fate by arch.inglor 2022-04-08T02:01:44Z

The art and music look REALLY great- some of the best I've seen in the entire jam so far. Unfortunately I have no idea what to do. Some explanation would be greatly appreciated :D

Solar Flare! by jSmile 2022-04-05T01:46:11Z

Although it has a few problems (like having a lose connection to the theme and being overly simplistic), I had fun playing the game. Good effort!

LD51 — Every 10 seconds

Murder on the Horizon by Ayxs 2022-10-06T03:09:55Z

Wow, what a ride! This is without a doubt one of the most ambitious Ludum Dare games I have ever seen- the scripting is impeccable, graphics and amazing, and if you dig deep enough, you can just start to see a little through the cracks! My one and only criticism (and this is a big one) is that I feel personally that the theme was very underutilized in this case. I also feel like maybe the verdict system could have been a little more punishing in some way, since there was nothing prevent you from just clicking on the verdicts one by one. Overall though, this is a phenomenal game, and you should be very proud of yourselves! :D

Sonar by erikiene 2022-10-04T21:40:58Z

I love this!!! I found it to be really, really polished, and can easily see this being a Steam game lol. The only criticism I would have is that I found the relationship to the theme to be a bit lacking. Overall though, I had a ton of fun! Good job :D

Little Scout 2 by Tex Killer 2022-10-05T23:02:14Z

Hi! I just wanted to say that after reading through the description I was really looking forward to trying this one; however, although I can hear sounds (which seem awesome btw!), I can't actually see anything in the window. The .exe shows up in the task bar, but nothing actually happens upon clicking it. It's a really good effort though, and I can certainly commend using your own engine to build the game!

Little Scout 2 by Tex Killer 2022-10-05T23:43:08Z

@tex-killer By onboard GPU are you referring to integrated or discrete graphics? I'm using an RTX 2060.

18 Souls by MaiMai 2022-10-21T20:08:38Z

It's a nice concept but the execution is a bit confusing. I would often collect more/less than 18 souls and the game would still advance me to the next round, but sometimes it didn't even when I had exactly 18! Other than that massive bug, I think the game is quite fun and humorous. Good job!

Escape the Breach by OwlyCode 2022-10-05T23:12:28Z

I think this might just be one of the best LD games I've seen so far! I'm beyond impressed with the scope of this game! Never thought I'd see fully-fledged procedural generation in a COMPO game :D

The movement is very smooth and gameplay is quite interesting. My only criticism would be that the camera seems to move of it's own accord; it's an artificial restriction on the player that shouldn't exist IMO. Other than that, I had a TON of fun getting to 756m!!! Great job :DDDD

Snail Gale by moasip 2022-10-04T21:38:20Z

Workshift by Arihan10 2022-10-05T23:17:51Z

Thanks for the detailed feedback @tobius! I agree 100% with each of your points- there should definitely have been more feedback to guide the player in doing the right thing, and this was my first time attempting to make a 2D game  (Usually I work with 3D). I'm really glad you enjoyed the music and had a fun time playing!

Trineko by SinaLIze 2022-10-05T22:31:32Z

Congratulations on making a game! It's a bit rough here and there but overall it's a really nice effort :D I think the real MVP here are the graphics, because they look phenomenal. Same with the sound design! Good job.

Earth tremor by Nel Creation 2022-10-05T22:46:35Z

Nice game! I really enjoyed trying to get to the top but think there are a few misses. It's quite hard to know what is a "perch" and what isn't. Secondly, and I suppose this is the bigger concern- the controls often simply don't work. I understand that the arrow key must be pressed first, but as a user it still feels a bit clunky, especially given the *very* unforgiving time limit (I think something like fifty-seconds to a minute would have been a better choice). However, as I said, I still had a lot of fun, so good job! :D

Squared by Mentol 2022-10-05T22:57:15Z

Nice game! The puzzles are actually pretty well constructed, but its very lacking in instructions IMO. At most I was able to solve 4/6 puzzles; the other two, I simply have no idea what to do. I also ran into a recurring issue where the "Game Over" screen would keep showing up over and over again! For a first time jam though, this is an amazing effort, and everything from the sound design to the graphics work is really well done. Good job :D

Graveyard Scramble by pauly3d 2022-10-05T02:07:31Z

Nice game! I really love the retro artstyle and the music is pretty cool too. Only issue is that for a ten-second charge time, the main ability isn't really too useful lol. In the end it just turns into a mad dash away from the enemies. That said, I still had fun, so good job!
