Looks like only the exe is available on Itch, and since the rest of the game files are missing, it throws the following error when run:

--------------------------- Till the Cards Come Home.exe - System Error --------------------------- The code execution cannot proceed because UnityPlayer.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem. --------------------------- OK ---------------------------

I think you need to upload the entire folder with the built game, not just the exe. I haven't left a rating since I wasn't able to play.

Dear Lucas,

You've created a Game. Just for this you can be proud of yourself. You did it in time. Unfortunately i don't really unserstand it.

I really like the background in combination with the camera. The particles are also nice.

For the next time, you should try to explaine the game in the game

With best Regards Max

Same problem as @widdershin here, it might be that there's a build option missing for a release in Unity. I don't have Unity installed, in case that makes a difference.

lucas-guimaraes 2022-04-04 07:54

oh gosh. I had no idea. I'll edit that!

lucas-guimaraes 2022-04-04 07:58

I threw the zip into the folder. Is it fixed now? This is my first time ever exporting a Unity file so it's on me. Whoops.

Good job on the game. It is easy to understand what has to be done and that is good. I would recommend adding some UI, like a score counter and a health counter, because right now I have no idea how much health I have and how big my score is.

Good job on the effects though, really important that you give the player feedback on their actions. This was a good addition.

I was able to play it just fine.

Overall, the concept of the game is good but the delivery was horrible. It feels to me that this should of been an unfinished game

widdershin 2022-04-04 08:13

@lucas-guimaraes it's working now, thanks for fixing that.

Gave it a go and here are my thoughts: * Wasn't obvious how many lives I had left * Wasn't clear what collecting the suits does * Collision seems a bit glitchy, didn't always hit chips or suit as I would expect

Unfortunate that you ran out of time, would have liked to see a bit more of your vision realized. Nice try though!

It's working for me now!

I think this idea has potential with a little juice. Some thoughts:

- The particle effect every time you move the chip is a little distracting. The others (collecting suits) are great, they just sort of get lost among the move particles. - Even just some rudimentary sound effects (like with [sfxr](https://sfxr.me/)) would go a long way to making the game feel more responsive. It's amazing how much even a simple sound can transform the feel of a game. - Some visual feedback on which suits have been collected would help, I wasn't sure which suit to go for each time. - If you haven't already seen the classic "Juice it or lose it" (on YouTube), there are a tonne of ideas in there that would work really well in this game

Nice work, and congrats on completing the compo!

christian-zommerfelds 2022-04-04 09:26

Hi Lucas, the game worked :)

Main critique:

* The game could become more difficult over time otherwise you can play for ever * I didn't understand why bother collecting the suits

But otherwise a cool idea about being a poker chip. Maybe there could be combos / ordering (flush?) when collecting stuff.

The game was pretty satisfying. Not sure what the main idea was, but just hopping around for a bit was pretty fun

Good job on the game!

If I had to give feedback, it would definitely be to add a tutorial (as well as clarifying the connection to the theme). I didn't really know what to do or how to move, and am still not sure whether it's the black balls that kill me or the red balls.

That said, I thought the particle and parallax effects were really innovative :D Great effort!

aderpychickenstudios 2022-04-04 23:17

The art work in the background is really cool, I think my biggest suggestion would be to add UI and sound effects to give the player feedback, great effort!

pierce-brooks 2022-04-05 20:52

I love that literal directness of the player sprite's label. Also, is it possible to die? I continued on for quite a long while avoiding the black balls and gather the red poker symbols without much of any indication as to whether the damage I had accrued was bringing me any closer to losing.

Hey, It's wonderful that you were able to submit something; I just wanna get that out first.

This game can certainly use a UI system so as to know how good/bad you're doing. There could also be some sound effects to break up the monotony. There should've been instructions somewhere, in a readme file, or the game itself, or even this page. The background doesn't loop very well, at least for me; the particle effects are pretty nice, however.

I just think this game's a little too simple. Again, good job on making something!

zimny11 2022-04-19 23:03

The core game-loop is fine, but the game need more player feedback, for example: info on how much HP a player has. I guess from part of the text about timer, that idea was - collect suits to add more time to the timer. Also, the difficulty of the game should start low and go up with time. I do understand that time is needed to implement all of that, so do not worry. Creating a working game in only 48h is already an awesome achievement :)

I liked the digital nature of the movement. Made it different than I expected at first glace and was a lot of fun to get in a rhythm playing.
