I like the concept. The idea is cool, but I think that the ash doesn't move in fast enough, a run could be really long before you lose. The eating animation felt too long, from a gameplay perspective it doesn't make sense for it to last as long as it did. I like the art, the it was very cute. Stick with gamedev, i think you have a pretty good shot at making something cool! EDIT: Why can't i rate this game?

the intermittent music between periods of silence helped to set a nice mood and sense of momentum, and i liked some of the gameplay decisions that arise from the concept, such as going into the ash to reach a bush without being sure whether or not it has berries on it. The game lacks a sense of urgency but the slow gameplay does itself help to set a particular atmosphere. The controls were a little awkward to me but the game was slow enough that it wasn't too much of a problem, in particular i'd like a different input for eating than casting a spell, because those two actions don't intuitively go together and it can feel off to perform them both with the same input. Also for selecting spells my instinct is to use the mouse wheel rather than the number buttons because that action is faster and feels more directly tied to the action being performed. Overall, i'd say i found this game to be quite interesting, and i think it works very well for what it is.

Cute concept. I like the idea, I enjoyed the music and wished it had repeated upon finishing. The graphics could use some work. The map was pretty big and the gameplay was a little slow. I think it had decent execution for a lot of the ideas. Well done

Thanks for the game! I liked the small details!

Gotta love an entry made without an engine, good job. Once I worked the game out it was super fun, It could benefit from being faster paced though, as I had to wait a long time doing nothing while the ash spread before it was necessary to start doing anything. Other than that, very neat concept.

I like your take on the theme! Strategy with a little bit of magic is fun world building. I appreciated the player feedback touches like the ghosted item to indicate placement. My only request would be that the ash go a little faster to raise the stakes. Maybe the wizard could run faster. Speeding up the pace would polish this up real nice. But other than that, great job!

Nice game and cool concept, but as other have said, making the game more fast-paced (ashes going faster) would really help. Other than that it's a nice project

My best time was 9 minutes and 52 seconds. Nice idea! I like these retro graphics!

I really like the game, although I can't rate it :(

Really interesting concept and well executed. I liked the little eating animation.

However, I had a bit of an issue where I was stood in the ash to clear a bit and then I ate some berries and instantly the map filled with ash and then I died.

As, ultimately, you will end up losing it might be better to have a smaller map and faster ash which would make it easier to get from one edge of the ash to another quicker.

Well done!
