LD46 — Keep it alive

DJ Data Bender by binroot 2020-04-20T04:05:26Z

Nice game! Really interesting approach and well made. Music (as expected) is really good and the art fits the mood perfectly. However, it lacks and incentive, other than trying to make a new highscore. There is no win / lose condition, so it can get a bit repetitive after a while. Also it would be really cool if the buttons could be toggled using the keyboard as well. That would really give off the sense of being a DJ! Keep up the good work!

The Ludum Dare Flame 🔥 by tobiasw 2020-04-24T22:26:26Z

This is excellent! I really like the concept and the simplicity of the design. It is an example that you don't need to have good graphics (or graphics at all to make a good game). It could definitely be a bit more complicated and have a few more features, to keep the players engaged for longer. I am really eager to see how this will evolve after ludum dare ends. Again congratulations!

Keep it Alive - the Rectangle that is by gonutz 2020-04-25T11:57:03Z

Nice game! I like the mechanics and the flexibility it offers. One thing I would change is panning around because some levels cannot be seen whole and you dont know where the exit is (at least an arrow pointing to the exit would help). Other than that I think it is a nice game I can see myself playing. Keep up the good work.

Tiny Fragments by Daniel Moreno 2020-04-21T20:51:07Z

Nice game! It looks really well made and the art and music are good. Gameplay is really fun and challenging, I would like to play more!! The concept is also really cool. Keep up the good work!

Solais by dragonxvi 2020-04-25T11:39:56Z

Nice game! It reminds me a bit of Celeste, which is a good thing because Celeste is a great game. Nice art and music and nice level of challenge, although some times it was hard to distinguish between walls and background (I dont know if that was intentional though). Keep up the good work!!

Embers by Anuke 2020-04-20T17:43:11Z

Really beautiful game! Nice graphics and music. For some reason screen becomes white when I break a box in HTML version. There is no goal or more crafting recipes to keep the player invested for a long time. However, I really liked the mood of this game, I can see myself playing it with more recipes / things to discover. Keep up the good work!

Hacking is Probably Not Like This by sayumeki 2020-04-20T15:59:06Z

When they tell you to make a game in 48 hours and you make 12!! Good job man! I really liked the small puzzles, although apart from the electroJuice the extra components are not that important after the 10th day or so. Still a very fun game. Keep up the good work !!

Untitled Sport Game by fancypants 2020-04-25T12:04:30Z

I love it! It looks fun and addictive. I like the fact it supports local multiplayer. I also like the design. Great job. Keep it up!!

Keep It Alive by Rakowu 2020-04-20T16:10:12Z

Nice game! I like the music and the art style, although clicking and dragging feels a bit off (like rotating the disk in stage 2). Stage 4 gives very little time to experiment and then you have to do it all over again. Still I like the mood of the game and it is a nice puzzle game! Keep up the good work!

WOODS by Feilkin 2020-04-20T14:05:58Z

Nice game! Really interesting concept, I like this approach. I like the multiple purpose of most objects (the fire is your light source, your weapon and your goal, the ghosts are enemies and fuel). It gives a nice vibe, some music would really add to it. Keep up the good work!

Crystal Defense by Ryvencore 2020-04-20T02:49:43Z

I like the art style of this game and the music is also nice. However, it is not really challenging and the money income is not enough to allow for strategic choices. The concept is also quite commonplace without trying something different from the classic tower defense recipe. I would like a bit more challenge and more gameplay, like more levels / waves. Still a MUCH better game than mine :).

Remember, Apollo by AdamCYounis 2020-04-21T20:56:43Z

This is a great game! The art and graphics are really good and fits the mood, and the pace of the story really gives of the intended vibe. Also the concept is awesome, but unfortunately at the same time it prevents the game from being expanded upon? Still great game, keep up the good work!

Not Clowning Around! by Wilson Taylor 2020-04-20T02:34:43Z

I like the game! The music and art contrast the stress of the situation, but the pace of the game and its difficulty kind of put YOU in a stressful situation to empathize with the clown. I like this combination. I am still struggling with the medium difficulty, but this is probably just me. Keep up the good work!

Electro Service 2: Electric Boogaloo by Fedora 2020-04-20T16:57:25Z

Nice game! It gives off the vibe that I intended my game to give XD. But this is actually working. I like the multitasking nature of trying to manage all this conditions. It is quite hard. I also like the music. Keep up the good work!

Protect The Artifact by WillyPa 2020-04-20T16:47:48Z

Nice game! Even though it is very simple, for some reason it is addictive. The sounds of killing enemies are spot on. It does get a bit repetitive though. This could be improved by having more kinds of enemies (maybe some shooting enemies) or increasing difficulty levels or more achievements so that people have a goal to push towards. Keep up the good work!

Keep Earth Alive! by ivn 2020-04-20T04:16:58Z

Nice game! It has a retro feeling. Took me a while to beat the last one. It is a bit short, I would like to play more stages. I like the fact that it hides the waves until the very last moment. I think it adds to the game. Keep up the good work!

Pass it On by Ryan Jung 2020-04-21T21:28:07Z

Really innovative concept. Simple yet really good, it shines through it's simplicity. Keep up the good work!

Social Life by CharlieGray 2020-04-20T03:35:54Z

I really liked it. Like A LOT! Simple yet on point graphics, nice calm music and intuitive controls. I got around 7500 points. At the start I thought it is really easy and you can also stack all your color shields together, but at the end I realized the benefit of having three different shields. Also the colorblind addition is very thoughtful. Amazing job congratulations! (Also are the high scores online?)

Social Distancing For LadyBugs by mehrdadsh 2020-04-21T21:06:11Z

Smashing bugs will never be more fun than this. Even though it kinda goes against the theme, it is a great game. I like the balancing and the increasing size of new bugs, that you can mistake for ladybugs. The sounds effects also make it feel really good. Keep up the good work!

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-20T04:24:26Z

Nice game! I like the concept, but I think the graphics could do with some improvement. I would also like to play more levels. Audio gives the right vibe. Keep up the good work!

Synergy by Diamond Wolf 2020-04-20T03:25:29Z

Great game! Nice music and art choice. The game feels good to play and move around / shoot. It is a bit too easy however. I was playing very poorly yet my life was going down VERY slowly and plus the infinite healing I could play for a long time without playing well. Some extra objectives and goals would also be really nice. Really good work. Keep it up!

Bullet Blocker by Doenerti 2020-04-25T11:47:06Z

I like the concept of this game, that bullets can be both enemies and allies and you can shapeshift. However, controls feel a bit of, which is not what I expected from a game with simple art. Good job anyway! Keep up the good work!

Cabbage Defender by Nerd Everyday 2020-04-20T03:48:14Z

Excellent game! It just feels good to play. Music and art choice are amazing and the animations are on point. It gives the appropriate amount of feedback to all actions and events (shooting, hiting, etc). The controls are intuitive. But the thing I liked the most about it is the double nature of the water pistol. I like the fact that the same object serves two different purposes. Keep up the good work!! Also some auto-firing when holding down the shoot button would be really good.

Hungry Flames by ViniFlores 2020-04-20T03:12:57Z

Nice game! I really like the concept and the potion mixing, and indeed it is very challenging (level 3 is HARD, at least for me). However, the flame limiting your visibility I think is a double punishment because you have less time available AND you cannot find potions to pump it back up, which makes it a bit too much in my opinion (the game is hard even without this). You have the potions and sword slowing you down, which means it might take a long time to make a color (especially with unlucky RNG) and the addition of ghosts makes things even harder. I think the visibility mechanic could be removed. And also the sound effects are a bit too harsh after a while. Overall, good work I like the creativity of the game, keep it up!

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Everything is Garbage by vfqd 2020-10-09T00:41:14Z

The Good ---- This game is incredible. It is really amazing this happened in 72 hours. The visuals are just so nice. The sound effects also give a lot to the game and they double as music (not sure if it was intentional but they kind of keep a beat). The gameplay is fun and keeps you engaged as you try to produce more materials. It is a simple concept executed perfectly.

The Bad ---- I WANT MORE! It is a shame that it finishes quite quickly, but I guess balancing a larger tech tree would not be possible in the game jam time limits.

Other comments ---- * Selling babies is bad ? * I definitely was not expecting the second recipe for meat

Excellent game! Keep up the good work!

BreakAway by LukeWaffel 2020-10-08T23:15:58Z

The Good ---- Wow! That game really feels good. You definitely managed to prioritize the most important parts to achieve the best possible result in the game jam time window. I really don't think I can cover all the things I liked about this game because there are many. First of all, it has a nice and well conveyed concept with clear guidelines as to what to do and how to do it. Easy to pickup. I liked that the enemies have a different attack, it gives them some kind of personality (damn fire nation). The enemy AI also feels good and natural, the kind you would expect from a guardian. The animation on the player is really nice. Sound effects are on point. The colors and textures are also good and the fit the scene and feel of the game. Movement and game speed also feel nice.

The Bad ---- Not much honestly. Even though the pillars have guardians you just have to kill a few then run to the pillar and take the element then break 2 pieces in the wall, and then not bother any more with that element. I would also like to see more interaction with the elements (e.g. in fighting).

Other ---- The vast area between the pillars could be filled with some non-monochromatic texture (like a grass field, pavement bricks or really anything) to give you a sense of movement and not feel static until you encounter and enemy or a wall.

Congrats on the game! It is really good and I would like to see how it could evolve. Keep up the good work!

Let's Circle Back by Alex the Bear 2020-10-08T22:39:36Z

The Good ---- I liked the choice of assets for the enemies as well as the player and the environment. The desert background and the overall aesthetic are really nice and they fit together. Really strong introduction to the game with the cut scene (although I was expecting a 3D game after that but I didnt really mind). Good choice of music and sounds. Also good variety of enemy types. I like how there are tanky, ranged and kamikazee enemies.

The Bad ---- The camera is too zoomed in. I dont know if this is done on purpose to encourage moving around, but it feels weird to be seen by the enemies but you cannot see them (unless you move). Maybe camera movement could be associated with moving the mouse to shoot. I found it quite hard if you move around, but it is pretty easy if you just stand stationary and shoot, which kind of defeats the purpose of being stuck in a circle (since it is more efficient to stay stuck at a point)

Other comments ---- The big building in the middle really makes you feel it provides cover, but you can shoot through it and enemies can pass through as well. I think it would have been better if you had some other element in the middle like a lake (or oasis since we are in desert), an underground station / rocket launch pad or some rocks and sand dunes, to signify it is not an obstacle.

Congrats on finishing the game. Keep up the good work!!

Bjorn to Dance by Tomh 2020-10-09T01:20:38Z

The Good ---- Nice game. It has a casual vibe and a classic memory puzzle style. The design and visuals is really good. The audio is also a very good aspect of the game.

The Bad ---- It lacks an incentive for the player to keep going. The leader board definitely helps, however it does not add anything game play wise. Also I cannot say I feel it fits the theme of the jam really well (you do repeat the pattern some times and play the same loop however it does not feel like one).

Other comments ---- Having said all of the above, I can say the game feels good to play and I like it.

Congrats on the game. Keep up the good work!

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Deepest Sword by Strega 2021-04-28T18:46:42Z

The good ---

* There are lots of good things about this game as the 500 comments already suggest. I will try to avoid repeating them, so I won't put much emphasis on them. * One thing that I really liked is that how with each upgrade the same levels became easier / harder. It was interesting to see how you could take shortcuts with a longer sword, but at the same time some corridors became trickier * Really interesting sword mechanic. Reminds me of "Getting over it" * Cute character * Good music * Nice art * Good controls * Nice game flow * Nice polish

The bad ---

* Last level can be a bit frustrating, although this is not necessarily bad in case you want to pose the player with a challenge so that they can prove they have mastered the mechanic

Summary ---

This is an excellent game and I loved it. It also feels like a finished game. I am not sure if it could be expanded upon with more levels as the last one was already a bit frustrating to go through, and I think 30 mins for this type of game is excellent (maybe could go up to an hour ?). But this is just my opinion and I cannot think of ways to expand it.

Congrats on the game and keep up the good work!!

Delve by notpresident35 2021-04-29T12:39:21Z

The good ---

* Music is on point. Really enjoyable track that does not get boring * Graphics are nice, simple and consistent. Everything has the same feeling and nothing seems out of place * Really cool concept of having a time based shooter * Simple and easy to follow controls * Nice vibe, it feels action-packed and fast paced (even though it is pretty chill) * Nice warnings before enemies appear

The bad ---

* Some times enemies bug out below the platform * Spikes hidden before hitting you, and only visible for a small window of time before getting hidden by the platform. Not sure if this was a design choice, and I don't think it was actually this bad, since it could be intentional that they are hidden before they hit you and you have to remember where they were. However, some more space below the platform would be nice. * Restart sometimes bugs out, and the platform continues after player has died * Rythm-based shooter was a bit misleading. Initially I thought you had to click on the beat to shoot, however you can hold down fire and it fires on the beat. Could have a bit more clear instructions on that. * Also, no point in not shooting, since you have no ammo. You could either make it fire by default, or have a penalty for spamming (ammo / reload / weapon overheating and becoming unoperable for a period of time)

Suggestions ---

* Could add an easy mode with health pickups * Could add an easy mode with spawnpoints, so you don't restart all over

Summary ---

I really liked this game and especially it's music. I think it makes it so much better. The game itself feels fast paced and nice to move around and shoot stuff. The rythm-based idea is really good, but I think it was not used to its fullest potential. Could have the player click the mouse on the beat to fire, similar to what "Crypt of the Necrodancer" does with movement. It could also do with a bit more polish here and there.

Congrats on the game and keep up the good work.

6 Feet Under by theStoff 2021-04-29T16:38:20Z

The good ---

* Amazing core mechanic. Honestly, I cannot express how impressed I am with it. It is simple yet so versatile and it is used in so many different ways. * New mechanics each level!! This adds even more to the core drill mechanic. Each level requires you to learn how to face a new challenge, keeping the game constantly challenging. * Excellent music. Really fits the vibe * Graphics are simple but consistent and the animations clear and responsive * Color palette selection is a really nice feature, that allows picking the contrast that fits you * Excellent level design. I really like how the drill mechanic and the new things that are introduced in each level are combined into very interesting levels! * Movement feels really nice, especially once you gather momentum. Really well done, it does not end up feeling unfair and it is very responsive, while having cool animations.

The bad ---

* Closing the game and reopening it reset all your progress. Since it is not a game you can easily finish very fast (at least not for me) you either have to keep it open or finish it in one go, and that can be quite a lot of time. Having a saved progress that would restart you from the latest level would be great.

Suggestions ---

* Having a level select screen would be nice. * Allowing a bit of airtime movement (i.e. moving left / right while in the air) would also be nice. Although I understand this could be intentional when designing the game, I think it would add to the game without making it easier.

Summary ---

An excellent game, I really would not think this is a jam game. I loved it and I would play more if I didnt have to start all over :(

Congrats on the game and keep up the good work!!

Muggy Lake by Bossus 2021-04-27T14:52:41Z

Disclaimer: I hate scary games so my review may be skewed, because I found it scary.

The good ---

* Really nice music and sound effects the fit the mood * Nice colors (sky, water) that also fit the mood * Nice UI touch with highlighting objects with the orange outline * Really cool and scary vibes * Monsters are creepy (although they are a bit higher definition than the boat / hills so they stand out)

The bad ---

* The scream after losing, feels a bit out of place. There is no point scaring the player after they have lost. * The hills look ok from far, but the texture is really weird when up close. * You restart from the start every time you die, which especially for a jam game, can make the replaying process a bit boring, and missing out on the ending of the game. * (Minor issue) When reversing, turning feels a bit unintuitive. Usually, in steering vehicles, when you steer and reverse, you rotate in the opposite rotation that the one you steer.

Suggestions ---

* There could be a hint as to what is needed to open each passage. E.g. the player could think to himself *"I wish I had a sword to cut through this web"* or *"I need something to open this door"*. It may seem obvious, but may really prevent players from thinking they are doing something wrong, or using the wrong item.

Summary ---

Overall a really good submission, the mood is set perfectly and everything contributes to it. Did not make it to the end (too scared), but it definitely feels like a good base game that can be expanded upon. Could use a bit more polish here and there, though.

Congrats on the game and keep up the good work!

The Core by guimoliveira 2021-04-28T17:48:01Z

The good ---

* Nice touch with the story at the beginning * Music really gives of the right vibe. It feel very lava like and reminds me of the lava city in zelda breath of the wild! * Platform placing / removing is nice * Lava really makes you feel the pressure once it reaches you in the lower levels * Platforms are not always connected, which forces you to use the matter you have gathered

The bad ---

* Music (although it has the right vibe as I mentioned) is a bit rough in the ears, and can get a bit annoying and repetitive (especially if you play the game a few times) * Clicking on the lava sometimes places a platform * Matter and life particles spawn in very awkward places. I am not sure whether this is a design decision, but sometimes it is not worth taking an matter particle because you spent more matter getting there! Especially with the limited view downwards, you don't know how far you will fall and if it is worth sacrificing your life points to make a jump. Could have the particles spawn a bit closer to the platforms (but not too close).

Suggestions ---

* The intro is quite long, so I think a scrolling text (either manual or star wars style) could make it better for faster readers or people who skip everything * Very subjective opinion, but I think that matter cost for stopping the antimatter could be cheaper * Could add high score and leaderboards!

Summary ---

A really simple game with a nice core idea and already makes for an interesting game. It does feel a bit unbalanced though and also unpolished in terms of graphics. I did play through it though a few times and I can saty I liked it.

Congrats on the game and keep up the good work!!

Random Deep by stipple3D 2021-04-27T14:23:07Z

The good --- * Nice choice of colors, easy to the eye * Nice effect on the pointers * Nice transitions between room view and room * Clear UI and interface; it is easy to know what is going on

The bad --- * Lack of music / sound effects * Easy mode and hard mode do not affect gameplay / move choice. You get a pointer towards the direction of the collection rooms, and you move accordingly. Not seeing it in the rooms view does not make a difference. * Game requires no effort from the player. It feels like a random walking simulator which the player has to input the direction of travel. There is no effort / thinking in choosing the next room, since the path you take has no effect on the randomness of your next move. * It is very reliant on luck. Once you reach close to a room, all you do is move back and forth until you are lucky enough to get to the room.

Ideas for improving --- * Some rooms could be easy to reach and other harder. * Picking up the items could give you buffs. Player could take the buffs from the easier rooms to aid him in reaching the harder ones faster and more deterministically. * Give the player more control. Maybe a power every N turns to deterministically move a number of moves they want.

Summary --- I think the underlying idea of adding randomness to the travel distance is good, but cannot stand on its own in terms of interesting gameplay. The game feels a bit tedious and grindy and the player does not feel the accomplishment of doing things himself, since the game is very reliant on luck. Also, simple music clip could be a great addition to the mood. However, the movement and visuals of the game, although simple, are nice!

Congrats on the game and keep up the good work!!

LD49 — Unstable

Tunnel Taupe by inkedsplat 2021-10-08T22:41:50Z

The good ---

* Art and animations. The mole is really qute and the color pallete of the game fits its cave environment. * Music. Pretty enjoyable and nice. * The procedurally generated world provides a lot of replayability and blends well with the game. Every game is a new unknown world that you have to tread with caution. * Enemies. I only got to see 3 (don't know if there are more) and they definetely fulfil their purpose of putting pressure on you. * Nice mechanic that fits the theme! I really like the fact that you have to dig cautiously while being chased by the enemies. Minerals are placed in places that a greedy digger will cause the ceiling to collapse.

The bad ---

* It would be nice if you could undo your last action when the ceiling is ready to collapse. Not sure if this intentional, or something that you would consider adding given more time. * Game feels a bit too hard once you progress a bit further, with no apparent way to overcome the massive hordes of enemies. Given the limitations of the game jam though, I feel the enemies are already balanced enough.

Summary ---

Really cool game, with nice art and music to capture your interest and constantly evolving levels to keep you interest and increase replayability. I really enjoyed playing this game and I can see myself coming back for more to see what secrets these caves hold :)

Great job on the game and keep up the good work.

Darkness In Bloom by Simon Rahnasto 2021-10-08T20:36:59Z

The good ---

* Nice art and animations, really smooth movement * Easy to learn controls * Nice UI for the chaos bar * Super interesting and innovative concept. I really like it and I think you can take it in many different directions. * Nice music and sound FX * Nice intro and outro cutscenes

The bad ---

* Very limited gameplay and a small game overall. Didn't really have much time to expand upon its core mechanic. * Enemies can easily be avoided and do not provide any major threat. Enemies could definitely be more aggressive or something else could be there to incentivise fight. * There is only one way to funnel energy to keep on fighting and this is to funnel it to dead nature. It feels more like a recharge / reload mechanism rather than something that adds to the gameplay. There could be enemies that are week to funnelling for example.

Summary ---

A super nice concept that I really liked, combined with great art and music. It's drawback is its limited gameplay. I feel this game could be extended and expanded upon, using the core mechanic of the life-chaos bar that also doubles as a lifebar at its core. I really like this idea of rebalancing energy and I think this game has a lot of potential. I honestly wished there was more of it cause the vibe and the setting look very cool.

Good job on the game and keep up the good work!

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Stop The Clock by IndigoWolf 2022-04-04T23:18:58Z

The good

+ Interesting stylistic approach, by including the Ludum Dare counter as the "Inevitable", fun twist + Quite satisfying sound effects on when clicking on the numbers. + Easy and intuitive to get in and start playing, no need to read controls + Fits the theme perfectly

The bad

+ Game duration can be quite long. I don't think I played for too long but the game started to feel very tiring and repetitive after some point. + There is not a lot of replayability. Even after one time, I didn't find the courage to go for a new highscore, and I think this is mostly due to the large (relatively to the game complexity) game time.

Summary

Overall, I can say that even though I liked the game and I did find it interesting, I also found it very limited. I think it could have been more challenging in some other way rather than increasing the numbers flow rate. In that way, the experience would be kept fresh and exciting, while it would also make you lose faster and add more replayability to the game. I think some background music would be a fine addition too.

Good luck and keep up the good work!

Ambulance Simulator by CaptaiinMz 2022-04-04T23:51:24Z

The good

+ Good fit of the theme + Nice music, quite catchy (except for the horrifying death sound, which I guess makes sense) + Nice and simple concept and core game mechanic

The bad

+ I am not a big fan of the graphics in this game. This is not really a bad thing, but more of a personal preference, but I do feel that they could be better. I don't necessarily mean better drawn, but they could also be more minimalistic or 8bit-like. However, I do think that they currently fit the music quite well, in some way  + Some items are quite frustrating to catch, especially the needle. I don't know if that was done on purpose to have some more difficult items, but I do feel some items are just a bit too hard to catch. I think some extra padding around them for clicks would be a nice addition while not making the game too easy.

Summary

The first impression of the game is quite nice, but I don't feel there is a lot of replayability there. I cannot exactly pinpoint why I feel that but after a couple runs, I couldn't bring myself to go for a better high score. I think it could be that the game feels to lack some depth and complexity and the core mechanic, although nice, lacks the addictiveness / polish to carry the game on its own. I do however, think the game can give quite a lot more with a bit of polish.

Good luck and keep up the good work!
