itch.io link does not work

bougiebirdie 2021-10-03 22:23

Fun game! I really liked your sound track. I did have some trouble switching from bow stance to cat stance, getting all the way across the bar sometimes I would lose some life.

luhuchiha 2021-10-03 22:34

@ratogodoy I was having trouble publishing to itch.io: should be fixed now!

luhuchiha 2021-10-03 22:39

@bougiebirdie Thanks! It seems that on the webgl build the speed of the bar quite slow, causing the player's health to decrease due to "inactivity" time. Only noticed that after publishing. I'm glad that you liked the soundtrack!

spacespytv 2021-10-03 23:31

Really fun game, it's really calming and chilled out. With more stances and other features this could grow into something incredible, Good work.

jcmonkey 2021-10-04 03:00

not a bad little game. kind of reminds me of that one thing in chrono trigger where you have to copy the poses

bootak 2021-10-05 16:14

Nice concept and stylish, minimalistic implementation. I love the aesthetics of this, with Gamebox-like graphics and simple 8-bit music & sounds. Well done!

glaikunt 2021-10-06 19:14

Love the idea. The graphics & music fit together really well. I think the only issue I personally had was I wasn't sure if I was doing it right sometimes. Might have been a mac bug other than that Amazing Job!

kuro917 2021-10-06 23:06

I appreciated the minimal graphics and the music, good job!

cogcomp 2021-10-07 20:48

Nice atmosphere & graphics with relaxing music to match. What else does one need  Well done!

diego-escalante 2021-10-08 04:42

Interesting concept, feels like one of those micro games in WarioWare. The dial on the bar was a bit too fast for me, but I was able to get a score of 21. Graphics were nice!

diego-escalante 2021-10-08 04:43

Also, congratulations on your first complete Ludum Dare project! Come back for more in LD50. :)

cabjhegas 2021-10-08 14:13

I really liked how the game looks. The grass animation brings a such cool atmosphere that I actually started to want for more of those. Maybe keeping the grass on the foreground and a tree in the background would be awesome!

gogu 2021-10-09 02:26

Good job!

Ahh... the slow winds tumble down the side of the mountains across the plains at the base, where a monk trains in the way of the Tao. It is centered. It is forward. It is backward. Such is the way of the Tao.

Really, the graphics and the music are both great mood setters. It is a bit tricky to make long transitions - some kind of indicator that change is coming before it happens would help a lot. I also think that making the balance indicator bigger or brighter would help a lot - I lost over half my life on the first try just because I couldn't see what the arrow keys were doing until it wandered out of the way outta town bit on the left. But I enjoyed it a lot!

ddesigndude 2021-10-09 05:13

It was nice to play a more relaxing game about balance and the music really helped there. The only minor tweak I would make would be to put indicators on the balance bar to indicate what balance region I should try to maintain vs trying to guess the percentage of the stances. Regardless congrats on a successful and well-balanced ;) compo entry!

luhuchiha 2021-10-09 18:15

@spacespytv Thanks! I will try to evolve the game on the next weeks!

@jcmonkey wow, that is true. It has been more than 10 years since I last played chrono trigger, I didn't even remembered that minigame! Guess I will play it again sometime :)

@bootak Thanks!

@glaikunt Thanks! I don't have a mac to test it on, but I will look into that for next releases. I will also try to add better indicators :)

@kuro917 @cogcomp Thank! :)

@diego-escalante Thanks! I received mixed complains about the dial being too fast/too slow. Maybe a difficulty setting might solve it, but I also think there is a "frame rate" bug which is the root cause of different behaviours on differente machines. I will look into it for post-jam versions.

@cabjhegas Thanks! I tried to add the grass on the background, but I would have to scale it differently and was already running out of time. But I definitely want to add some more details to the background!

@gogu Thanks! That is a very good score! ;)

@cromo The balance indicator should definetely be bigger/wider and brighter! To be honest, the indicator is a "sword", but it got very deformed when being used as the slider's indicator, and I had no time to fix it.

@ddesigndude Thanks! Makes sense: I added a note to improve that on next versions.

o-sim 2021-10-09 22:37

Simple, yet effective! I agree with all the things others have said with the mood, music, indicator etc. One tiny thing I would do is unify the pixel sizes in the ui to make the visuals more consistent.

pdotjpg 2021-10-10 10:58

The gameplay mechanic is super simple, but the theming and presentation really carry it. Nice mood. Good job!

solah 2021-10-10 15:31

Nice game, maybe the sound design is a bit too high, but I like the music and the graphics, well done!

johnlee-cooper 2021-10-10 22:15

pretty neat! Could maybe use some feedback as to whether you're doing it right or not besides the bar at the top left. I also kinda wanna see the guy fall over if I fail lol

ditam 2021-10-10 22:28

I really like the minimalism of this, visually as well as control scheme and concept-wise. Well done! I managed 112 points at my best.

I think the sound effects could be a bit more mellow, to fit the peaceful martial art atmosphere a bit more, but I understand that you were going for a lo-fi 8-bit feel which the current effects might fit more.

luhuchiha 2021-10-11 00:38

@o-sim Thanks for the feedback! I'm planning to add a proper scaler on the UI (I also wanted some more "pixel art font", but ended up using Unity's default font)

@pdotjpg Thanks! :)

@solah Thanks! I will do some tuning on the audio when I work on the game again!

@johnlee-cooper Thanks! I'm planning to add some proper transitions between the stances. I had an "initial" position and a "fail" position on my initial design, but didn't have time to draw them. As I'm far from being an artist, It already took a lot of time to draw the 3 stances (so I had to cut out the other 2)

@ditam Thanks! You are correct: I ended up using "harsher" sounds for the effects as they seems to be a better fit for the current aesthetics and I was already short on time. There are still a lot of experiments I want to do with the sound effects, though :)

rustbaron 2021-10-11 06:54

Not bad, I like the take on the theme and the graphics are nice too. It's an incredibly small game, but it does feel complete. As a first point of improvement, I think an indication that you're in the wrong zone would be good, perhaps in the bar or the character itself.

boxedmeatrevolution 2021-10-11 07:01

I liked the background music, it fit quite well with your setting! I noticed that it was easier if I held down right and just tapped left as needed to adjust position. Using this strategy, I got a high score of 167  As others have mentioned, the main feedback I have is to improve the visibility of the balance indicator. It would also be nice to have a visual or audio cue to clue to the player that they will start losing HP if the don't get the right balance soon.

ruthiepee 2021-10-11 19:25

The serene tone of the game is my favorite part, made by the elegant black and white graphics and the music. The first time I played, I didn't notice the balance indicator because it doesn't have much contrast against the background, so that's something that could be improved. But overall the balancing mechanic is really satisfying once you get the hang of it. Nice game!

luhuchiha 2021-10-13 23:52

@rustbaron Thanks! I'm planning to add an indicator for the wrong zone on the bar.

@boxedmeatrevolution Thanks! Yeah, I introduced that bug when trying to make the game "auto start" after closing the "how to panel": I will probably fix that when I change the indicator to start on the center (and refactor the bar to have any kind of indicator)

@ruthiepee Thanks! I'm planning to at least change the indicator to a brighter color: at the moment it feels "camouflaged" at the left corner of the bar and is indeed hard to notice when starting the game.

pio 2021-10-14 17:38

I love the graphics and the music in this one! I didn't like the sounds so much, I'm not sure why.

strega 2021-10-17 02:50

Got to 91 points. Fairly zen game, I liked the character and environment were nice. I liked the little animation on the grass. The music was pretty fitting, but the sounds were a little harsh on my speakers.

xlambein 2021-10-17 07:38

This was a nice little game :-) Good job on the graphics and the music, they set a really nice mood!

aerloth 2021-10-19 13:37

I love DDR and similar games and I definitely enjoyed this minigame!

The lo-fi music and sound effects were a perfect match to the pixelart style, I felt the 8bit zen energy flowing trough me!

It would be great if there was some way to recover the "health/balance" if you make some mistakes, so it's not only a "losing" game. I can imagine extending this with more moves and small random events to make it more diverse as it progresses!

Nice entry, would love to see it developed further!

jakobthequizguy 2021-10-21 13:57

The gameplay is very simple, but the graphics and music create a nice atmosphere that draws you in. I really like how it's in black and white, and how the grass sways. The "correct" sound was a bit annoying imo, too high pitched and sharp. All in all, cool game!

luhuchiha 2021-10-21 19:10

@pio and @strega Thanks! The sound effects seems to be the major complaint so far.

@xlambein Thanks! :)

@aerloth A health recover mechanic would be very interesting! I will try to find a way fit it into the game. The random events are already on the roadmap :) Thanks!

@jakobthequizguy Thanks! I will try to go for "smoother" sounds when refactoring the sound effects.
