What a cute little game! I really struggled since the difficulty ramps so quickly but I suppose that's the point. In a pretty funny event, one of my plays I managed to stand in one place above my last plant while a gnarly group of very quick bug died at my feet. Squashing the bugs was so satisfying. :)

relatable after seeing plants perish, i did like the multitasking aspect. i tried to stay to a quadrant or two so I could accumulate upgrades overtime. I liked how many things you needed to be doing all at once, stressful in a good way

Nice game, I had fun playing it. Although, I got also sad when my plants died...
Hello fellow farmer! I really like the idea of bugs that destroying the plants in combination with the night. You are always praying that there are not too many in the morning  Their is a little vibe coming from vampire survivors as you get the upgrade dialog! Sometimes controls were a little wonky and i could not change from water can to bug spray. It equips the bug spray and then equips the water can again, although i have clicked once.
Nice entry!
It was really fun honestly! Something very soothing on keeping an eye in your garden, while keeping an eye for bugs and watering plants. I enjoyed the simple and straight forward control and the sounds. Well done!

Cool game, kinda reminds of how bad I am at keeping my plants alive and eventually they wither aswell
I like the satisfying sound effects and the sound of squashing bugs
Very hard to keep them alive! is there any way to eliminate the bugs?

that was some really demanding plants :D I can see the true story it's based on.
Unfortunately I didn't get long because every time it turns night I couldn't control the player anymore, he just stands and watering the same plant (a very happy plant) the whole night.
Good job anyway on creating the game in 20 hours :)
I love the approach on the theme to be about plants, lots of ways to expand this idea
Holy d**n... that was a lot of bugs  Great entry - and an alternative idea .. really good job. Maybe work on the game balance... it seemed a bit harsh :thumbsup_tone1:

As someone who has killed many a basil plant, the line "Based on a true story" got a good laugh out of me :)
I agree with the other commenters that dealing with the bugs was a little bit overwhelming, especially because I didn't realize you needed to pick up bug spray to kill them until the second day! 😅
One thing that was a little bit frustrating was how you could queue the same action multiple times. I would frequently accidentally click on the same plant twice or more, especially as I was learning the controls, and was stuck watching my character water a plant several times in a row. I really like the idea of being able to queue actions, I just wish the queue was a little bit more forgiving of misclicks.
Overall though, great job, especially for a solo game that was almost a compo entry! :)
Thanks everyone so far for playing!
@boon @purpledartfrog Yeah I went a bit overboard with the bugs, I wanted to keep the play time under 5 minutes, but I noticed it feels a bit unfair. I might balance it a bit more and publish an update if I get in the mood :)
@smiley @marin0104 Seems I have put more bugs in the game than I wanted... thanks for letting me know, I'll look into those problems. Watering the same plant seems weird, the FSM must've gotten stuck somehow.
@justuspan Whilst the bugs are crawling you can squish them or you need to grab the bug spray from the table and spray the plant.
All in all, the original idea with the bugs was actually way less bugs that infest your plants but they multiply on the plant and once they reach a threshold on the plant they start spreading from there to others. Didn't have time to do that though so I just sent in the (bug) army... I mean, in the end, this is just to delay the inevitable, right? :)
I feel attacked, I can't keep a plant alive to save my life and it looks like this game is no exception
Going into the game I was expecting a chill game about gardening, but it seems that wasn't the case. It's surprisingly frantic - which goes against the norms of most farming games I've played. That said, it works very well and I really enjoyed it.
I liked that I could queue my moves, it was really handy when there's so much running around to do. I did get myself unfortunately stuck one time when I clicked on a plant too many times trying to figure it out. The player just got stuck in a loop watering it a dozen times because I was too eager to click. It also wasn't very clear at first that I could switch my equipped tool by returning to the tools table.
There's a lot of character in your shop descriptions. The best watering can being the BFWC was a fun little easter egg!
Pretty good game!
I managed to keep the garden alive for 3 minutes before everything withered away because of all of the (literal, not game) bugs!
One critique I have is that the upgrade window for the day needs to be a bigger, I couldn't read most of what was being said. Aside from that, the gameplay's great and simple! I will admit, I was confused at first, but I caught on quite quickly.

That was really cool. I felt really bad stepping on the bugs at first, then they killed my plants and it was ON. For some reason it wasn't obvious to me how many hearts I had so buying things was a guessing game. I'm gonna have to keep trying to keep my plants alive. Thanks!
This perfectly fits the jam theme, stressful situation of trying to save your plants but knowing that you can't because an horde of snails is coming. :P At first I didn't notice the bugs, but then MANY of them appear.. I guess that it is possible to maintain one single plant for a while so I am going to try to do that.
They are everywhere!!!!!! (Bugs, I mean)
Nice concept and well made. Too hard for me though.
And the command queue may be too long so that, if I clicked the wrong place, I cannot change my command.
Well done!

Good job. The mechanics are really fleshed out well thought through, however the harsh difficulty doesn't really allow them to shine, I think. Tuning the game a bit easier - start with a bit of a faster walk speed, have plants die slower and less bug attacks, and maybe get rid of the darkness completely - would make for a more engaging, more strategic experience. I felt like there were flashes of interesting strategizing - doing watering runs vs bug spray runs, collecting many hearts in a row, etc. - which I wasn't really able to think about because of the speed of the game.
But yeah, the core here is great!

Cute game! Took me a try or two before I realized that the actions you queue up will all be done, I thought it was just the last chosen one, so the first time I felt like I lost control of the character. But I corrected my approach after some tries, and the game made a lot more sense . Like @pdotjpg said, I think the darkness could have been left out. Maybe something like rain once in a while where the player only have to focus on bugs would have been a fun variation. Cool that you managed to get updgrades in! Well done
Nice game, I like it! Couple things caught my attention. First, the difficulty ramps quite quick and you're overwhelmed by bugs during the first day. And secondly, I wish you wouldn't have to go through the watering process, if the plant is already dead. It's disappointing when you're in a critical situation and you try to save a plant - only to find out there's nothing you can do to save it and you wasted time. Then again, I guess that's kind of the point of the game, huh.
On the other hand I like the upgrades and the very simple controls.
Good job!

Nice game, i feel like the difficulty ramps up too quickly for the clunky controls (I don't mean clunky in a negative way here, because I think that was on purpose and I actually enjoyed figuring out the controls and realizing that all the actions queue up), but you explained your reasons for that already.
So yeah, I had a fun 10 minutes with it (not in one run though xD)
Also I feel like something went wrong with the screen size, because I see this in the normal browser window: Screenshot_2022-04-17_20-59-08.png
And this when I put the browser in fullscreen mode (by pressing f11): Screenshot_2022-04-17_20-59-25.png
I'm using firefox, haven't tried it in other browsers, but it's nothing game breaking anyway, since every thing relevant to play the game is visible. just in case you care =)
Oh and I found it to see another garden game, because we also went with the "care for plants and everything dies slowly" idea, but ended up with a very different game, which was cool to see :D
