LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Temples of Purgatory by Gulyasarni66 2017-12-04T18:02:21Z

I liked how this reminded of old eye of the beholder era 3d dungeon crawlers. Could have been a bit more entertaining as the puzzles get quite similar to each other in time and going back to a location seems a bit tedious, but aesthetically a very good game.

Gather the Darkness by Jeremy Wolf 2017-12-04T07:25:18Z

The gameplay worked well enough, as did the physics, although I would have wished for more effort to be put in the character models/environment models. A great way to incorporate the idea, though. This is a very solid contender and a great way to start trying these compo games out.

Sad Knight by Quaternius 2017-12-04T17:16:17Z

Graphics were very nice but the point where this stands out is definitely audio. Best sound and music design I've seen so far. there weren't too many mechanics to defeat the skeletons though, would have been nice with some extra. Definitely a good effort.

Patient Zero by btwj 2017-12-04T19:23:37Z

Immensely good. Great potential even for a multiplayer game and a commercial release. My 35 year old arse is enjoying the hell out of this. By far the most potential of any of the games I've played here. *****

Freedom For Ball by rasblo 2017-12-04T19:42:53Z

Very good implementation of the theme, a nice challenge, graphics were passable for a prototype and it was a nice take on crowd control.

Rune Workshop by Kriss 2017-12-04T19:12:51Z

What is the one thing in common with the title of the hollywood film Avatar, tarot card ads and so many middle eastern restaurants? It is something that holds people of different beliefs and convictions together even in this dire and fragmented time. The Papyrus font.

The game itself was very fun, all very well done, a nice speed puzzle with great potential. No audio tho?

Danger Noodle by Matthew Roelle 2017-12-04T17:22:38Z

This has been so far the most professional looking game with a great idea and execution. This is something that could be completed. I have had the most fun with this and the sprite graphics look great and have lots of variation.

A Week of Chicken by _tiJy 2017-12-04T07:57:44Z

I enjoyed the cycle of action most. Gather chickens, survive the night, rinse and repeat. I scored only three stars in innovation, because it is a concept that has peaked very recently in survival games, which were popularized by Minecraft several years ago. Two and a half for theme, because, although it does have 'the more you have' in it, there, the night and day cycles reminded me mostly of levels.

The audio, environment and graphics were very nice and animated nicely. AI was sufficient. Very good!

Webshop Live CMS by leffe108 2017-12-04T16:38:04Z

Very fun to play. Funny idea and a decent implementation. A good take on optimization and UA culture in general, how much pandering it is. Maybe a bit lacking of features for a direct implementation, but might be a good basis for a web development/marketing game idea.

Crystal Seeker by CapitanRetraso 2017-12-04T19:49:31Z

A very solid game indeed. The graphics aren't bad at all, audio is superb.

Catch the Bag by Sudakov Aleksey 2017-12-04T16:53:48Z

People have been complaining about the jumps, so I won't beat a dead horse here. Adjust the collider material next time so walls won't have friction. Graphics are very nice, nice style. I think there's a solid game idea here.

Overburdened by LeoF 2017-12-05T12:38:23Z

Actually playing through a whole bunch of games feels at some point like a chore, but coming across something that is both challenging and enjoyable is a great experience. Graphics were quite simple but effective, I loved the sequential text in the beginning and the gameplay was good.

To The Depths by Pedro Medeiros 2017-12-04T17:43:37Z

Twitter follower here, I would have expected nothing less. Great work, great execution, the graphics are superb, audio design is solid. Gameplay and idea work like a charm as well.

LD49 — Unstable

Solar Colonies by Fenderbate 2021-10-09T13:03:53Z

A very enjoyable few minutes. Definitely something that could be expanded into something very exciting and an all around wholesome experience, which this already is. The music was great as well!

Antenna Antics by Vectrex28 2021-10-04T07:49:14Z

This is near a complete game for the NES, and enjoyed playing it through and through. I love how LD has an active community of retro/homebrew developers. Great job!

Island in collapse by xiyou 2021-10-17T18:00:48Z

Loved the art and polish! Music was also very nice. Great implementation of tetris style mechanics!

Grabanakki by Saturnyoshi 2021-10-08T17:06:30Z

It's always refreshing to play something as polished as this! Definitely great effort and seems like a superb synergy between the team to pull off something like this in a short time.

Tables & Tremors by SlimmerBurger 2021-10-17T18:17:22Z

This is brilliant. Absolute banger of a game, the simplicity and execution of difficulty rising is stunning.

A Senator's Sacrifice by James Wilson 2021-10-17T18:06:43Z

I liked the execution here. A great idea for a puzzle platformer that works as a solid prototype.

Break Through by Richard Jiang 2021-10-04T09:29:52Z

Definitely a very strong one. There is beauty in simplicity here and definitely potential for further development. I like how the movement is uniform and still gives a challenge.

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

The Matter at Hand by Chaseplays 2018-04-23T18:50:02Z

Definitely top 5 material so far. I thoroughly enjoyed playing this and especially liked how polished and finished it was.

The Matter at Hand by Chaseplays 2018-04-24T07:25:38Z

@chaseplays Top 5 of what I've played so far (around 30 or so games). Would be a stretch from me to say for all the entries, but very, very good.

Count Weenie by vidsneeze 2018-04-23T11:21:06Z

Definitely one of the very good ones, which are enjoyable to play. Nice zelda-like movement and the genres were melded well, though the conflict between the incompatible genres wasn't in my opinion quite there.

Bully-Logy by malobil 2018-04-24T08:18:34Z

Very, very good and very promising for further development. This was such a fun game to play. I would probably go forward with making it more accurate to point where the parts are and make the bullies slower so it would be more efficient for learning. Also a game mode for body parts that are in the correct group. Bones, the digestive system, muscles etc.

Defender of the Road by Val 2018-04-23T08:47:09Z

Pretty fun, though it could have had more of a racing game element in it, because the car would be easily changed to another sprite.

Pix Eliz Great Curse of the Cards by mat1er 2018-04-23T13:26:37Z

Very interesting concept right here. Wouldn't help working on the graphics and gameplay parts to make a longer game out of this, with more options what to do and more challenges.

Arbust's Revenge by sirikan 2018-04-24T07:54:56Z

Finished it. It was very entertaining! Enjoyed playing it and I value good gameplay experiences in this contest.

Time Tug by IronyGames 2018-04-23T09:29:01Z

This was an excellent display of how the theme is incorporated in gameplay. Very interesting take and something that could be made into something if polished and more content added.

Turn-Based Invaders from Space! by HacksawUnit 2018-04-24T19:12:38Z

This is the second game I've played from this author and it seems like the delivery is very high quality as usual. Definitely one of the best compo games I've played so far.

mechROMANCER : a top down shooter dating sim about relationships by Useless 2018-04-23T06:48:24Z

Nice to see others with a similar concept (using dating sim as distraction to action game). This was overall a well made game, although the question from the bot completely freezing your character wasn't the best possible solution.

Prototypes and Dust by AdroitConceptions 2018-04-23T13:11:11Z

Great prototyping work here. The graphics were very placeholder, but this is a great example how you can conceive great ideas from the challenge. Very fun to play.

Type'Em Up by ytaha 2018-04-23T08:00:46Z

This was all in all very well made, but the polish was a bit lacking in the gameplay direction department as the enemies were firing a bit too fast for me to have time to get into the battle. Definitely one of the most well executed in the means of how the theme is incorporated into the game.

YOU LEFT ME. by Angela He 2018-04-25T12:25:49Z

I have reviewed close to 50 games and have so far not given 5 stars in any category. Until now, in which I gave it in two. I would really like to congratulate beforehand in winning graphics and mood -categories, because there is very little chance any game can top this in those. Superb production value, wonderful, stylish aesthetics and, like someone said, by far the best art I've seen in a ludum dare compo.

Escape the room, escape your death by Jakub Panek 2018-04-23T09:48:15Z

I was kind of lost after finding the clues in the end. Well executed as a room escape game and probably fun to make too, the environment wass well modeled and the gameplay was sleek. I had trouble finding the life simulator part though.

From the Breach by erebus 2018-04-25T07:48:17Z

A very good jam game indeed. The mechanics worked well and the execution of the idea was very good. The environment/level design was especially good and felt right.

Anysma by Chris Magnuson 2018-04-23T18:16:14Z

One of the better ones definitely. Surprisingly sleek incorporation of the idea. There isn't much to criticize really. Shortening the commands to one letter was one of the key strengths in this one.

Card Cave Adventures by Swen 2018-04-23T12:01:06Z

Definitely an endearing one, and so far one of my favorites. Theme was very well implemented and the conflict between the genres were played out extremely well creating a newfound play strategy. Very easy to make this into a casual mobile game for instance. This could definitely with a polished level design be something very addictive.

Typodie by Kusaihana 2018-04-23T11:03:58Z

Very decent game and overall a good implementation of incompatible genres, though the gameplay was a bit random and messy. With polish this could be a very fun casual board game.

Don't text and fly by Aarre Entertainment 2018-04-22T15:29:03Z

Sorry about that! fixed it.

Don't text and fly by Aarre Entertainment 2018-04-23T12:32:18Z

HTML5 version added. No changes, just new build.

Don't text and fly by Aarre Entertainment 2018-04-23T13:21:40Z

@jf1989 Oh, it's quite much to just keep moving and it's a lot less likely a meteor will hit you. The idea was to keep the player on the constant move. Also the arrows left and right thrust the ship to the sides, which helps evading. Of course the more diamonds you gather, the more difficult it gets.

Also, take note of the timer on the phone. It depletes if the phone isn't touched (clicked) and will trigger the death screen if at zero.

Don't text and fly by Aarre Entertainment 2018-04-25T08:00:33Z

@shp oh yes! The perfect combination in indulgent yet trashy vegetarian cuisine.

ASM Hell by vilix64 2018-04-23T07:41:27Z

This was a gem that can easily be made into a full game, maybe even mobile like some coding games. It's something I will be coming back to even when this event is over.

Ducks Hunter (Shooter + Racing) by StarzzDrak 2018-04-23T13:16:36Z

Not too shabby. Graphics were ok, the idea great (biathlon) and the execution, well, very unfinished but gives the idea. I would have put more work on the movement mechanics all in all and done a few bug tests as they were quite prominent.

Sandbox Solitaire by Marchmain 2018-04-24T07:33:12Z

One of the best I've tried so far. It's very fun even without 'gaming mechanics' and playing around with the physics is great. Very good execution and a great idea!

Silence of the Chickens by Tayfun 2018-04-23T12:56:25Z

One of the funniest and prettiest games so far. I had some trouble comprehending when my or the enemy's chicken is hit, so some health bar or other indicator would be great. Also feedback when any character is getting hit is very important.

Arbour by literallyjosh 2018-04-23T12:50:43Z

Top 3 material so far. I enjoyed all the twisted, dark, eerie bits of it and even the very sudden ending. Mood heavy game, but the gameplay wasn't bad, very solid all in all, and the writing was standout.

2-3-D-Endless-Ego-Shooter by timbs 2018-04-24T10:27:37Z

A great idea, execution could heve needed a bit polish. Both own and enemy hitboxes should be a bit bigger, also bullets and reloading to prevent just clicking through, also some link between movement and accuracy in the shooting would be nice. The graphics were pleasant to look at and the game itself was very decent.

Fight for the Mike! by Eiyeron 2018-04-23T12:42:08Z

The gameplay was a bit of a mess, quite fast and at times very hard to comprehend. The players were very similar with each other and the movement was a bit random. Didn't know if clicks were responsive at all.

Typewriter Dungeon by Jaime Paz Lopes 2018-04-24T08:23:46Z

Wonderful idea to have the story inside the typing. It added a lot to the immersion of the game. Very good execution of the conflict between two incompatible game genres, very consistent and solid aesthetic in the game and all in all a very well made game.

Yet Another Turn Based Bullet Hell by jf1989 2018-04-23T11:32:13Z

This is the second turn based bullet hell I've tried and this one is in my opinion better. Very well executed and polished, definitely some potential here and I have to say that this is also one of the better games in here. The puzzle element works extremely well here and this proves that even the conflict between the genres can be turned into a strength.

Stealth Casual Farming Simulator by RadioactiveRambo 2018-04-23T08:35:03Z

Needs a bit polish but a fun one nonetheless. Needs clear indication when crop is fully grown and when the spot is watered. Also would be fun if the wolves moved less randomly.

1on1 World Cup 2018 by Jaychitects 2018-04-23T18:59:13Z

A very fun game to play and the idea can be purposed into a fun sports game with a bigger time period. A 1 on 1 football game could be lots of fun.

Rhythm Sea Restaurant by parkinje 2018-04-23T08:08:46Z

Great concept overall, though I was expecting more of a mixture in gameplay of several genres, though this was the gameplay of a rhythm game in a fishing/cooking setting. All in all the game itself is fun to play and definitely something to consider developing further.

SHIRO NO OJO by ROBOWARRIOR1982 2018-04-23T07:06:32Z

This is definitely one of the better games. As an idea it's quite valuable, because the gameplay just kind of clicked. Of course it's unfinished as the difficulty didn't progress quick enough and I became bored before I was dead. I would definitely go forward with this. Improve variation a bit, more polished sprites. The game settign seemed interesting.

Fast & Food by lwt1231234 2018-04-24T07:04:56Z

Great audio, great game design. Very well put together all in all.
