Nice game. Pretty fun. At first I was like "this is easy." Then... I touched the ice! All the way down I go! Haha, really smooth, looks great and is great entry!

@stalemeat Thanks you!!

Punishing the player by sending them all the way back to the bottom of the game is way to harsh. From a game design standpoint, you're sacrificing the player's enjoyment of the game for what, extended playtime? And if the player rage-quits, then was it worth it? I understand how that's the take on the theme, but I found it more tedious than a satisfying challenge.
The promo artwork is stellar, (I wish the artwork in game lived up to it!) and the music is really charming! I like how the different sections of the game have different music too!
Some of the gems seemed poorly placed, such that by going to collect them, you're almost guaranteed to slip on ice, either above or below you, forcing you to reset. I understand that you're going for a high risk for the reward type deal, but the reward isn't worth the potential, if not guaranteed, losses. I would feel a lot better about the game as a whole if the overground section had a "checkpoint" of sorts, so slipping only takes you to the bottom of the section instead of the entire game.
I feel like the background could have a little more details. I saw a few crumbly bricks in the cave section, but they were under utilized. Details make the world go round!
The boss fight is pretty tough, and honestly, that's what caused me to give up. I made it up to the boss about 7 times without defeating it (either out of myself just playing poorly, or a poorly timed attack that I couldn't avoid) and every time slipping down to the bottom of the game just felt awful. Again, one of the most important parts of game design is understanding how the player will feel in every situation, and if that's the experience you're going for, where the player is actively getting frustrated and losing interest in trying again, you're doing something wrong.
Overall, it's a good game. There are parts I disagree with game-design-wise, but it's still a good game. The "jump higher when not holding left or right" is a clever mechanic I haven't seen elsewhere, and I like how you designed multiple sections around it. It's a really solid core mechanic. I think the focus should've been more centered on other situations for the higher jumping mechanic, and less on slipping to the bottom of the map. Great work!
@100th-coin I do agree a fair bit with it being too harsh of a punishment for the player. After having played the game this morning after finalizing things last night, I decided that it's a little much. I'm currently uploading a newer build that gets rid of some of the harsh punishments that I felt were a little too far, it should be available soon. Thanks for your feedback!
Pretty nice platformer with unique jump mechanics, beautiful graphics and music. I might need to play it more to reach the top, but it's a fun game. The question is, will it reach speedrunners  ?
@adroman I would love it if it would, who knows if it does or now
Very cool game. Love the art, sweet and simple. In terms of gameplay it reminded me a lot of Jump King (Especially that one part with the ice and the blue gems where you throw away progress to get them) very nice little game. Love it!
@dodori thanks for playing! The game was heavily inspired by Jump King, and hearing you mention that means a ton!
Nice to see that someone else had the idea of making something Jump King like ^^ Great execution in most parts, but I think the conditions for the higher jump are a bit tight as in many cases I stop holding left/right but still get the short jump
Great job, I got a little frustrated with the inconsistency on the amount of jumps you can do before falling, but aside from this problem, I really enjoyed playing your game !
Excellent game, art and music create a very nice atmosphere and it is very fun to play. Good job.
Not as easy as I think, I need practice more :( When I jump I feel a little bit heavy. Love your art and background story!
Pretty fun! Takes a bit to get used to the controls, but definitely a fun game!
You made this look a lot easier on stream lol. Pretty fun, once you get used to the controls it's pretty easy as well but not too forgiving. I think the consequence of failure is actually pretty well balanced, considering that the higher up you get, the more jumps you should have so it's not as hard to get back up. One thing that's happened so far in my playthrough is I beat the first boss, got the "see you in the skies" dialog and promptly fell, lol
Also I found a softlock in the peaks section. fightorflight_softlock.png
@sockpuppetcow oh whoops! Looks like I overlooked that softlock lol. Glad you enjoy it, and thank for stopping by the stream!
Having an intro cinematic for a Ludum Dare game is a rarity.
The controls took a bit of getting used to, but once I got there, I found it quite enjoyable. The audio and the music are relaxed enough that the climbing doesn't seem all that bad. After having got fairly high up, hitting an ice block and falling back to the start in a matter of seconds, I just decided "Yeah, that's enough."
I think the punishing element could be reduced a bit, and the controls were a bit odd with the "just pressing space" instead of left or right at the same time, but it was an enjoyable game.
The girl on the cover looks like Link if he was a girl.
Bited by cover. Funny game =)
Fits the theme in a way I do not believe I've seen before.
Good work on this entry ! :tada:
I'm not sure if it's intended but sometimes you can do 3 jumps, sometimes 4 jumps. It seems pretty random.
Also, these thin platforms looked like we could pass through, but I guess not  . I see you used Unity. So if it was what you wanted to do but don't know how, try to check the "Platform Effector 2D" component to be able to do it. (If you already knew, don't mind my comment then  )
Lastly, I got soft-locked by ice, doing infinite loop, :dizzy: lol. (I forgot to take a screenshot, but from the last screenshot you've put on this page, it's the above part where you slide up and then i just keep getting on this ice and slide up again etc.)
Game is enjoyable on the overall and the artwork is beautiful ! :confetti_ball:
A really solid entry overall ! I'm surprised you managed to fit so much content into the game. The artwork is nice, the dialog is funny and it's a really robust platformer. The level design is challenging enough but a bit too punishing, although I understand that it might have been intentional. I did manage to beat the game in the end, and it was well worth it. Incredible work !
@gcake Thanks! It was intentional that your jumps were a little random, though you're able to increase your max amount of jumps by collecting gems. As well, I do in fact use the platform effector later on for one way platforms, the ones near the start weren't meant to be one-way.
Cute little jam game! I liked the platformer design, the jumping felt really solid, the music was a good fit, all and all really nice! I do think missing the jump and being forced back to the beginning was a bit too brutal, some sort of checkpoint system would have been appreciated, but still fun nonetheless.
The story is interesting, and I like the art.
I did not like falling back to the bottom of the level, but I did enjoy the Rube Goldberg-esque ice.
Really like the vibe of this game. Tough as nails at points, but the style kept me hooked!
