Love the technical solution with an actual shrinking game window! Overall very polished and well done mechanics. The actual shrinking glitched some for me, but that is what I get for running Linux... Best jam game I've played so far!

xerozylir 2018-08-14 18:39

Brilliant game with amazing effects and game play. Loved the levels and the fact that there are checkpoints as well.

johannimations 2018-08-14 22:23

I love the innovative story and therefore i'll giveyou 4.5 in innovation. well done

oriondark7 2018-08-14 22:43

I'm using the Mac Port, and the game was incredibly laggy and crashed on me. From what I did play, I loved the music and the graphics, they both blended together well. Good job!

jose-alvim 2018-08-14 22:47

@oriondark7, I'm sorry to hear you've had problems on Mac, did you try the lower graphics mode?

Thanks for the input though!

oriondark7 2018-08-14 22:56

@jose-alvim Yes, I tried both low definition mode and high definition mode, they both crashed.

jose-alvim 2018-08-14 22:59

@oriondark7, Well, I'll see if there is a simple fix.

They way MacOS handles windows might be more unstable when doing very frequent re-sizing. It really is just GODOT's interface with the OS so we hoped there wouldn't be porting issues.

wekaj 2018-08-14 23:05

Nice work, I love this idea! The way the window actually shrinks and responds to your attacks is so cool.

raivk 2018-08-14 23:07

It's incredible. Definitely the best game i've seen for now on this ludum dare. It's so cool, original, and well made. Congrats ! Wasn't expecting to fight against uh.. the window borders ! Just a thing : the remains of the ennemies start to clutter the screen to quickly, blocking the player without letting him do anything against it !

jessifin 2018-08-14 23:14

I had the same problem as @oriondark7 on mac. Crashes after you cut a wall. Music was quite good however.

matank 2018-08-14 23:25

Awesome, liked the zoom in effect when attacking, and attacking the window borders was a great concept.

nihilaleph 2018-08-14 23:28

Very nice game! Cool mechanics, reminds me of [windowframe](https://managore.itch.io/windowframe) (wow, 7 LDs ago :scream: )

Pros: - Nice mechanic implementation - Art and effects

Cons: - Attacks felt a bit stiff, but it could be just me

Obs: I'm playing on windows (64bits) and it crashed for me twice, 1st time while loading 4th level and another loading 5th level. I played both with HD and LD mode. Also, it could be just me, but for some reason I feel that the penguin sprite is in a lower resolution than the other assets...? idk

Cheers!

zariel 2018-08-14 23:52

I liked it and found it very cool the concept of the penguin fight with the screensaver to free up space ... I just found it a bit difficult from the third level onwards

jose-alvim 2018-08-15 00:00

@nihilaleph Thanks a lot. I'm not too sure if the whole continuous window-resizing is stable on any platform. I haven't had problems here on Ubuntu, but some people have complained about crashes on gnu-linux so...

Also `windowframe` looks very fun. Unfortunately it seems to be Windows exclusive :v

drevilbrain 2018-08-15 00:14

Really awesome concept! Definitely the most interesting thing I've seen yet. Great mechanics. I'll definitely have to look through the source code and see how you built this.

jose-alvim 2018-08-15 00:19

@drevilbrain Godot has an OS "thing" that wraps this kind of stuff :D

~~I'm secretly terrified at the thought that someone will rummage through all that messy code~~

tontonpizza 2018-08-15 00:29

shrinking window add some freshness in this genre. but, i just die and die at the second screen, no time to figure out what to do and it is quite frustrating.

duandi 2018-08-15 00:40

The idea is great and the execution, giving the short amount of time as well. Short notice: The game crashed for me after the credits were finished

kunou 2018-08-15 01:11

very well done , I really like the idea the concept of the shrinking windows I think u guys nailed the theme and the gameplay is good aswell (love those close ups)

jose-alvim 2018-08-15 01:11

@tontonpizza I do agree it's a bit fast. Have you tried dashing? I don't think you _can_ make it without dashing.

planetgames 2018-08-15 01:17

excellent use of the view-port, never played anything like it. full marks on innovation!

yamiog 2018-08-15 01:26

It was pretty fun, I enjoyed trying the different challenges. The only con would be that you move with the arrow keys.

jared-york 2018-08-15 02:09

Nice game! The window resizing is a brilliant mechanic, you definitely get 4.5 stars for innovation from me. Keep up the great work.

carlos-giraldo 2018-08-15 02:45

Good effects and awesome concept. Wish the hit detection on attacking the screen felt clearer. Might have been cool to have more use to the dash, like allowing you to bypass the enemies or something

kazuo256 2018-08-15 02:47

@raivk

> Just a thing : the remains of the ennemies start to clutter the screen to quickly, blocking the player without letting him do anything against it !

Did you perhaps... run out of space?

Sorry, I know. The game is bit on the hard side ;)

comenoha 2018-08-15 04:41

Love the idea, such a cool mechanic to use the walls. The only gripe I have is that the game seemed almost impossible at the fourth-fifth level onward unless you button smashed, and at that point it moved pretty slow because you hit crystals and zoomed in/stopped the clock over and over. I love the idea of having to decide whether to hit the walls or hit a crystal though.

awix 2018-08-15 05:54

A good game idea, the music should be improved. The graphics are good. Try our game too, maybe you'll like it)

raivk 2018-08-15 09:02

@kazuo256 oh.. I see what you did there ;)

ceasar 2018-08-15 10:19

Ohhh great idea for the game and excellent execution. I love it!

yamifive 2018-08-15 10:42

Amazing!

nolanfa 2018-08-15 18:56

the idea is really interesting, but it gets a bit repetitive after a while (though I didn't really understand how to deal with the crystals, that may be part of it).

thegunmaster 2018-08-15 19:08

Very nice game, I too had been thinking about making some game where the window itself becomes smaller.

shess 2018-08-16 02:11

Beautiful concept, I can surely say I've never seen anything like it before! It kinda startled me the first time I saw the screen literally shrinking. The music blends beautifully, too. All in all, very dynamic and challenging experience, kudos to you guys.

stames 2018-08-16 14:57

that was just amazing. Had so much fun playing it. one little thing sometimes I kind of stuck to the snow piles.

But this was just so mutch fun and it looked amazing and also the music was nice. Just great :-D

gilgusmaximus 2018-08-16 20:50

Really simple but good use of the theme. Especially with the music, which boosts the experience a lot, because it is so stressfull and beautiful at the same time. Also the art style is very gorgeous. Definitely one of my favorites

ganonwarrior 2018-08-17 04:23

What a fantastic job! You had a great idea within the theme proposed by Jam, congratulations to the whole team!

prodigalson 2018-08-20 00:46

Let me start by saying that I enjoyed the backstory and even chuckled a bit here and there and the game concept is a unique one for me thus far in this jam so well done there. I also like the art style and the sound/music.

However, I found the controls to be really hard for me to work with especially since the arrow keys on my keyboard are tiny and too close to themselves and I am more used to moving with WASD and performing actions with the right hand like clicking a mouse button or something like that. My main suggestion is to add alternative control mapping for those who struggle with the current setup.

eduardo-yukio 2018-08-20 01:20

@prodigalson Thank you for your kind feedback! You are right, other people pointed that out too, we will work on alternative controls.

erikiene 2018-08-20 22:43

Genius idea!! I've never seen shrinking of the actual game window as a mechanic before. Joining that with the story and the slashing of walls mechanic - amazing work guys, highest rating I've given for innovation yet. Also, the zoom-in and slash is a great touch :ok_hand_tone1:

ratherjolly 2018-08-22 04:53

Excellent! This is a fantastic take on the theme. I freaking love your core mechanic! This game looks and plays exceptionally. Well done!

folex70 2018-08-23 14:24

launch a web version please

eduardo-yukio 2018-08-24 14:22

@erikiene and @ratherjolly, thank you very much, this means a lot to us!

@folex70 Given the nature of our game's core mechanic (the shrinking of the game window), it is desktop-only (no Web or Mobile versions).

darkguardsman 2018-08-27 16:16

Really nice concept and good quality. Sadly had trouble enjoying it due to the odd controls.

ryan-wickman 2018-09-04 00:40

I enjoy the artwork!

hellsquirrel 2018-09-04 14:10

Nice game!
