I liked the concept and it was fun! Even though you didn't have art, I thought the minimalism worked well in your favour, since it helped me concentrate on the game. Though, it was a bit hard - I kept dying. I feel as though you're lacking some sort of health regen system (if there was, I missed it, sorry.)

slimothyj 2018-04-24 01:21

@DeltaNutmeg Thanks for playing :) I appreciate the feedback. The medkits (Green Pickups) will heal you for 50Hp

profit 2018-04-24 01:40

Wow really difficult to play round one. Movement was not smooth and made it difficult to jump onto platforms without falling off. maybe some velocity to the movement would help. Good design overall. Maybe if i tried a little harder i could move through the levels. Background music was pretty good.

slimothyj 2018-04-24 01:44

@pRoFiT Even I take a few attempts at the first stage. i guess I had the difficulty curve a bit backwards since the boss is easier than the first level from what I've seen. Difficulty was always intended however ;) appreciate the feedback

mahalis 2018-04-24 02:15

Wow, this is a challenge - my first half-dozen attempts ended in falling off the map while running away from something, and most of the rest getting mobbed by the little ground enemies. I could see having a lot of fun with it if I were better at it, though; the level design is really well done.

slimothyj 2018-04-24 02:20

@mahalis Thanks! Seems like a lot of people are having some problems getting past the first level to be honest. My biggest regret is using a modified Standard Asset FPS Controller. I should have bit the bullet and programmed one from the ground up. Ended up with janky first person movement and weird jump stacking. Ah well. Thanks for playing :)

gregk 2018-04-24 02:28

A little too hard for my taste, it was difficult to even do the puzzle solving -- which may have been fun -- with so many incoming bullets! I like the idea though

slimothyj 2018-04-24 02:30

@GregK Didn't realise I'd put in puzzles haha. I get what you mean. Thank you for the feedback, really :)

dekobii 2018-04-24 02:31

Good game. The controls were hard to get used to. I liked the minimalistic approach, although some more art would have helped. The music fit well.

slimothyj 2018-04-24 02:42

@Dekobii Thanks! Was gonna spend the last day polishing up and perhaps adding a few models but college and life sort of got in the way. I'm glad people are seeing it as minimalistic. Entirely intentional I assure you ;)

shelvid 2018-04-24 02:48

Has a potential. It felt little annoying when i couldn't tell dead and alive enemies apart but it wasnt big of a deal :) I sadly couldn't beat it (im not that good at puzzles) but pretty good entry! Menu needs a bit of fixing aswell!

bongard22 2018-04-24 02:48

I think the biggest issue is the controls feel super loose. Oh and feed back when you get hit would be great. Great job though!

slimothyj 2018-04-24 02:54

@Shelvid @Bongard22 Both great points! :) Thank you very much.

Am yet to find someone who can beat it (Besides my friend with some guidance. Literally overhauled my wall of text Tutorial for him with pictures and stuff)

isopoly 2018-04-24 03:23

super hard lol I died so many times, I like the "no delay" style movement :) Great work!

slimothyj 2018-04-24 03:26

@isopoly Glad you liked it :) I wanted to keep movement snappy for dodging and such.

zuhairghias 2018-04-24 03:27

I really love how you've made a fun game without separate models etc. using just polygon. That takes great creativity and imagination, and I agree it doesn't reduce the fun at all. Great game, on problem for me is that the controls aren't fluid for a fast paced game like this. I understand it's something that needs getting used to, but that's where I would put effort if I were to add one more thing. Other than that I loved it. Great Game!

omnipotentindie 2018-04-24 03:33

Pretty good. Could'nt tell my HP and the deaths were kind of random

holofire 2018-04-24 03:38

Wow, I really enjoyed playing this game. I actually beat it on my third attempt, my second attempt ended when i died from one of the laser things around chungholio. Controls were very difficult to get used to but managed to get the hang of it. Great job

slimothyj 2018-04-24 03:44

@ZuhairGhias I'm so happy you found it fun! I'm glad you liked the aesthetic of my game! Controls seem like a big issue. Some people like the snappyness. Some people want it more fluid :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

@OmnipotentIndie Your health is the green number in the lower right corner  (Perhaps it might have scaled wrong. I didn't play the game in any resolution besides 1920x1080. Perhaps try running the game in that resolution.

@Holofire Hello there! Congrats on beating the game! I was beginning to think I had made it too challenging There's a lot of games to get through and I was scared people wouldnt want to put in the time to get the hang of it so thats a releif.

Thanks to all of you for playing. I hope you enjoyed!

megamasterx 2018-04-24 04:09

I was pretty entranced by this title. After spending the better part of 20 minutes on it, I finally got the hang of it all and I could tangibly feel myself improve, which was honestly the most rewarding part of the experience. I earned a win, and that's a great feeling.

slimothyj 2018-04-24 04:13

@megamasterx Your comment made me so happy! It's nice knowing that people are hardcore enough to put in the time to get the hang of my janky controls and confusing level design. Thank you, honestly. Loved your type-fighting game too.

rainysolar 2018-04-24 05:12

:D Maybe this one is too difficult for me. I have tried lots of times but never made round one. Great concept, feels like FPS + BulletHell.

slimothyj 2018-04-24 05:16

@rainysolar Thats exactly what I went for! :) Both genres smashed together. Glad you liked it

jrpl 2018-04-24 05:28

Awesome game. Had fun playing it. The controls are really precise in the air which allows for some awesome jumping. Reminded me a lot of b-hopping in counter strike. Also the little robots I thought were pretty funny. Got to the final boss only to get there with 10 hp and die instantly lol. Really fun game!

yack-sebblen 2018-04-24 11:44

I liked the graphics and the music, I think they work well together. However, the difficulty curve on this game seems to be harder than expected. It was very difficult to even get past the first level. Plus, the controls weren't that great. Other than that, you have some really good visuals and audio, and just a bit more work on the game play would definitely make the perfect game.

richard-n-silva 2018-04-24 11:55

I really liked the controls, it feels lime Quake (the classic). Maybe it was my pc that was slowing down things a bit but I feel that the pace could me even faster :)

Awesome job overall!

We are looking for feedbacks for our entry, “Type ‘n Jump”. Please consider checking it out too :) https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/type-n-jump

slimothyj 2018-04-24 15:43

@Richard N Silva I'll take that onboard if i ever pick the project back up. Probably onto bigger and better things for me now however. Thanks for the great feedback! I'll give your game a crack.

slimothyj 2018-04-24 18:26

@Jrpl Glad you liked it! I got a CS Bhopping vibe, myself to be honest. Hitting space at the right moment bypasses the weird jump stacking you get from spamming it (Not an intentional thing). I probably should have included a section in the tutorial about health pickups to be honest. Thanks for the feedback! :)

@Yack Sebblen I'm glad that you think the music and graphics compliment eachother. Yeh a few people seem to have trouble getting the hang of the sloppy controls while some like them and think its snappy. Guess you cant please everyone ;) I love that "Perfect game" comment. Made me feel great haha. Thanks for playing

gonz0 2018-04-24 19:08

Nice one man! Could be a little more forgiving but the fun is definitely there. Music is a little jarring, something a lttle less intrusive maybe. Good stuff though, Nice programming!

Here's my entry if you'd care to have a go?https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/spacescape

szekeres-szabolcs 2018-04-25 06:36

The controls need some polish. Congrats on finishing the game

pixelproductions 2018-04-25 19:03

Simple but awesome ! I Loved your game, it's challenging and it visual style is so amazing. Your game has potential. If you keep work on it after ludum dare, it will be a success !

veilastrum 2018-05-02 01:36

Quite a simple game, but it's quite fun. I was lost most of the time though and kept falling into the tiny slits everywhere, but considering you stated that the game was meant to be unfair, it's probably just that and I'm just not persistent enough, haha. I'm not sure what the two genres are though. Apart from that, this is a decent entry.

mowztouch 2018-05-05 01:55

i found it very hard. but nice graphics :)

slimothyj 2018-08-06 00:02

@gonz0 The music was the only thing I didn't make. (Bad at music lol) Thanks for your feedback though!

@pixelproductions I would love to but I didn't really have much vision for it outside of "Something I can put effort into programming that isn't too ambitious" In hindsight I wish I'd put more effort into the art style but it seems to have worked out in my favour. Thanks!

@veilastrum I tried to go for something that was easy to get the hang of after a few tries while still maintaining challenge. I tried adding tips and things on where to go but it was hard to work out how to do it without spoiling the exploration element. Ended up just writing how to beat the game, from start to finish, in the the tutorial lol. Thanks for the feedback! As for the two genres, the game is an FPS / Bullethell crossover :)

@mowztouch Thanks! It was supposed to be challenging and I'm glad you liked the graphics despite them being the thing I put the least effort into lol.
