really nice looking and intuitive

gevernus 2018-12-03 12:45

Its the best game i played today. Guitar soundtrack is the genious!! Very nice pixel art. Great game feelings. Its a five!

rasblo 2018-12-03 12:48

Wow nicely done, impressed. Beautiful graphics!

Audio was cracking for me a bit though when shooting.

binarylynx 2018-12-03 12:51

For some reason my projectiles didn't work as intended. They just hit the floor immediately after being shot. Highest rates on graphics and audio though!

raziyya 2018-12-03 13:21

What a fantastic game! Looks great and well thought out. I wish I had some more constructive feedback but its just great. Best game I've played so far.

glimaleite 2018-12-03 13:32

@binarylynx hey, could you try reloading it? The projectiles have gravity, maybe that's what was going on? Didn't happen to me during the weekend :/ Thanks!

binarylynx 2018-12-03 15:51

@glimaleite the reload fixed it. Well now it's an overall well made game! xD

saucygames 2018-12-04 05:33

mood gots me in the feels, couldnt get past one of the last waves in the game, couldnt tell if i was losing my witch power because of health or if it was a bug but it was too hard to recover after that. the gameplay was fun though

shieldgenerator7 2018-12-04 08:14

SO COOL!! normally i find tower defense games boring, but the story and the mechanics, and the artwork just drew me right in. so intense!

unfortunately i had to quit half way through because it was being so glitchy it was unplayable. I'd be up in the sky and it'd just randomly teleport me directly below, to the house, or to any other random place. i dont know what caused it, but if it werent for that glitch, id have finished this game.

i have no reservations about giving this game 5 stars all across the board! bravo, sir, bravo!

bmopapa 2018-12-04 11:34

Very cool Game and mood overall! But sometimes it becomes very glitchy. And I wonder if position-transform key changed to some key which is near WASD, (like E) would make players life easier? Any way, very fluent game play experience for me!

glimaleite 2018-12-04 11:37

@saucygames @shieldgenerator7 @bmopapa thanks for the feedback! I feel like the same issue is happening to all of you. The proper behaviour is to teleport back to the mid of the house when you're hit OR when a new story chapter begins. Was something else happening? Teleporting out of the blue? I couldn't reproduce it :(

@bmopapa you're right, E would be so much better, don't know why I haven't thought of it lol

Thanks a lot for the words ;) Cheers

arzi 2018-12-04 14:00

I'd say you really nailed the mood. It was a bit annoying to have to watch the cutscene after losing, but otherwise the flow was really good and I liked the balance between different abilities and the enemy design made the gameplay interesting.

limitless 2018-12-04 14:47

Loved the graphics, music and game feel!

jungle 2018-12-04 16:05

This game is very cabuloso. I really love the pixelart and game mood. It is a very polished entry, you did a very great ~~blow~~job. 5/5 Congratulations.

pablodap 2018-12-04 18:47

Really lovely graphics and great enemy design. Having both habilities on the same cooldown and displaying it on the cursor is nice. It's a bit glitchy at the moment, but after some fixes it's gonna feel great.

But please, don't put so many cutscenes between waves, it just stops the gameplay when it doesn't need to. As a player I want to keep shooting and improving, not wait for the same cutscene to end when I already watched it. Maybe make it so you can move during them and only spawn some small enemies so the player can rest a bit between big waves but it's still entertained during the scenes.

Also, I didn't know how much I could drain the child, was there a visual hint?

Don't worry about the mood and action mix, it worked really nicely.

glimaleite 2018-12-04 19:56

@pablodap thanks for the feedback! What exactly is glitchy about the cursor and cooldown things you've mentioned?

I get what you're saying, it breaks the flow right? I only realized that on the last hour hehe. About the visual hint, yes, there is, a subtle one, the vignette around the screen.

Thanks for your feedback, really helpful :D

pablodap 2018-12-04 20:12

@glimaleite Oh, no, the cursor and cooldown were not glitchy for me. I was refering to your fireballs. Like some people said, sometimes they shoot right, but sometimes they shoot right to the ground. And the witch glitched a little bit when flying, but it was a minor issue.

Exactly, it breaks the flow.

Good luck, it can become a really great little game!

plepletier 2018-12-04 20:26

Gaaaabrielsz!!!!! O time das coisas! Parabéns!!!! Melhor game que você já fez em Ludum Dare até hoje. Uma boa continuação do anterior! ^^

ente 2018-12-04 23:17

Wow, I really love the mood of the game! :) The artwork is very nice and this night/despair/all_alone_in_the_woods feeling is conveyed with it and the guitar soundtrack fits very beautifully too. I think it is really round what you have done!I actually would not agree with @glimaleite about the cutscenes. I liked them. Without them it would have just felt like any tower defense game. With the cutscenes it gives some more atmosphere/mood to it. Or well... I would agree that they are a bit too much, when you have already seen them. Because you always have to rewatch them, when draining the life too much, right? maybe this could be done differently?

2018-12-05 12:54

impresive graphics, i love your universe :v:

syverlauritz 2018-12-05 13:02

My favorite compo entry so far. Solid graphics, story and the shooting mechanics and feedback feel great. I do have two critiques if I may: 1 - The gameplay is maybe not as closely linked with the theme as it should be. 2 - The music doesn't fit with the setting very well. I understand everything is done by yourself and you need to use the tools you have at hand, but maybe the guitar riff could draw some inspiration from folk music that is more typical to the setting/time period (I'm guessing 1300s-1600s?). Like maybe some mandolin type of music (https://youtu.be/pBKFlckrpmU). Other than those two critiques I'm just blown away by the game and how you managed to pull it off in such a sort amount of time. Tons of kudos!

suchista 2018-12-05 13:30

Great art and the story keeps engaged. Cutscenes were annoying after restarting and draining life is a bit too long. But overall is really cool!

saering 2018-12-05 13:49

Clean game! Cleaner when you know it's a compo haha. I really like the atmosphere, the story and everything, it all gave the game a really nice mood. I felt like the gameplay was a little bit slow and maybe too linear, but otherwise I liked playing it and I'll be happy playing your next games!

pranjalbisht 2018-12-05 13:52

Oh boy the game's so challenging! Aside from the issue with the flow-breaking cutscenes when your retry, really well done!

raivk 2018-12-05 14:27

Really nice ambiance with the music and the setting of the game. It conveys a lot of emotions, love it :)

exilegl 2018-12-06 02:18

Love the pixel art and concept. Text gets a little fuzzy after a sentence is completed, idk if thats intended or not. I did better once I figured out you could hold click for constant fire. Had fun killin' zombies etc :)

bradur 2018-12-06 10:34

Super cool game, sounds are choppy on WebGL probably because of unity audio import settings (should be loaded to memory on startup). The controls were a little hard at first but once you got the hang of it was smooth. I didn't like getting instakilled when colliding with the mobs. Quite a solid entry with a cool story!

doctormozart 2018-12-11 03:58

Really nice Compo entry. Art was very impressive. I enjoyed the way you integrated the story into the gameplay smoothly. As well, I loved your choice to have the Witch slowly fall if you were shooting - it added a nice incentive to not stand in one place and blast away. I was happy you managed to include music in such a short timeframe, however, didn't find it fit the overall "mood" you were aiming for.

All in all, you did a great job. I loved the early 90s feel you achieved.

Edit: I forgot to mention it, but this was a VERY cool method of integrating the theme into a mechanic. I loved how taking damage only weakened your power, and in tense moments you have to make the choice to continue the fight weak, or potentially accidently kill the child to re-power yourself.

acuriosity 2018-12-11 04:12

This was very pleasing to look at and pretty fun...

I dont think I ever got fully into the swing of things, my aim was off a bit, having the cursor for aiming but then having the shots have gravity felt strange, and a little unfair. I think its what stopped me from trying to progress further, that and not wanting to wait through the cut scenes again... I think I would have liked much less bullet gravity, just enough to provide a sense that they moved in a slight arch, but so little that my aim was mostly absolute.

Teleporting felt a little disorienting as it was not immediate... if you initiated a teleport to a position, and proceeded to fire, many times the first shot would come from the pre-teleport position as the teleport has not happened yet... this would draw my eye back to the teleport from position(origin of the shot), making me miss the teleport animation, and thusly make me momentarily unaware of my user position until my next shot which was usually way off as I didnt realize I was now firing from the new teleported position... I think making the teleport much faster, almost immediate, and playing up the teleport anim(the trail left behind was very faint), would help.. And either disabling shooting while the teleport was in action, or, and i think this would be my preferred solution, have the shots originate from the teleport to position before the animation was complete... so even though my character had not yet animated to the new position, it would reinforce my understanding of the soon to be character position... plus its magic so I think it would work...

The first moment when I life drained was pretty sweet, the visual effect my character gained, and the new weapon power felt pretty rewarding.

Overall this is a solid compo entry... the graphics are cohesive and visually pleasing, they have a very spectral feel... The music and sound effects all work in adding to the ghastly gloominess (however it did feel like some sounds were missing)... there are functioning game mechanics, and a bit of a story(not sure how far it got developed, as i didnt progress far, but I liked what I got to experience)

Side note:I also chose to compose my own soundtrack for my compo entry, and my weapon of choice was guitar as well. So that basically makes us cousins.

acaral 2018-12-11 07:54

Sooo neat, and this is a compo? really! It looks like a jam. You're very talented. Great work

falak 2018-12-11 12:43

Great game! I found one graphic error. If you kill this monster worm, it will play the normal killing monster animation. But this is just my picky. Good luck

tekses 2018-12-17 15:27

One of the best games i have played so far! A masterwork of short and emotional storytelling. The mood was perfect with the gloomy artstyle, music and dialoge. Loved it.

selavy 2018-12-29 17:47

Good, minimal storytelling, great art, very on theme, and solid gameplay, particularly liked the subtle arc to the projectiles and that pinpoint perfect amount of screenshake. Only criticisms I have are that the resolution was a bit weird (some of the text was really blurry for me) and it may be helpful to have some clearer indication of the child's health. Overall, excellent work!

f1krazy 2018-12-29 17:55

This is really good for a compo entry. The graphics, gameplay, and music all feel really well-polished, and the story is well-written. I couldn't manage to finish it - those bloody spinning lasers - but I'm amazed and impressed that you managed to fit all this into just 48 hours.

My main complaint is the text - sometimes it's a bit blurry and hard-to-read. When I first played, I didn't quite catch which button was the "Teleport" button, so as soon as the shielded enemies appeared, I had to restart the game so I could look it up. Then when the game first tells you to drain the baby's energy, the button looks like a P or an R and it took me quite a long time to figure out that it was supposed to be F. Maybe it would be a good idea to list the controls here, or on the itch.io page?

That's really my only complaint, though. This is an excellent entry. Very well done!

(oh, and I highly recommend you start rating a few more games, otherwise your entry won't be counted! It'd be a shame, because I expect this to be rated quite highly!)

verbante 2018-12-30 10:00

Hey, great game. VFX was killer and really liked how shooting felt (the weight of it). I there wasn't a need formonologue after each wave, especcially after restarts. Also because silence can create some suspense while knowing that there will be a dialogue after each wave was monotonous. Music was really well done. It sorta gets repetitive but worked super well and I know this is a compo entry. Music could have better fit the mood you'd expect from a snowy death trap but that's nitpicking. Also a little gameplay issue, teleport makes you immdeately invisable but doesn't immedeately makes you invincable and that caused me to get hit a couple times. The ability to restart without dying would have been nice. I'm amazed this is a compo etry well done!

glimaleite 2018-12-30 11:12

@f1krazy thanks for your feedback! The texts were a pain because I was using a brand new feature from unity (Pixel Perfect camera) and I just couldn't get it right. I'm gonna spend this sunday playing and rating some other games, thanks! :)

thomas-bringer 2018-12-31 12:30

Cool game, I love it (: The storyline is great and I love the visual effects like snow particles and trail renderers. Your pixel art is great! You made a great job, congrats :D
