TY @darylsteak ! Wish we had more free time to work on it over the weekend! Definitely continuing to flesh it out. When "finished" I will do a blog post and link to published product.
@catbutt, sorry about the visual issue! Thanks for the feedback. Someone else mentioned that, ha! Working to alleviate.
@hav24 @sozey Thanks for the nice feedback! I'll be sure to rate your games. :) Work will continue on this game until I feel like it's "done", haha. Here's an itch page if you feel like trying new versions: https://nongenregames.itch.io/verti-cease
Wish my computer was faster (3-year old lower-end laptop), after about the 5th or 6th effigy, got a bit of slowdown that made putting out the fires difficult-to-impossible. Not a slight against the game itself, but just fyi. Like the concept, seems fun as a multiplayer game, perhaps local splitscreen multiplayer could be worked out for it?
Love the idea. Would start it a bit easier with a smaller selection of keys that are easier to reach then build from there. maybe also require only 3 fingers to start then work your way up to the full 10. Also, I echo the sentiment that it didn't fit the theme. Clever and fun game nonetheless!
Man yeah, definitely nailed the 'classic arcade game' feel. This would fit right at home on the 2600 also. EXCEPT for the difficulty curve. whew, too hard right off the bat. I really dig the mechanic though, and echo what the other person said about the buildings and cars and stuff being near the same hue as the background. I, for one, liked the sound as it contributes to the retro aesthetic, but i could see how people would be annoyed. Probably with a bit more work, it'd be more varied and less annoying. Could've tried to work in the theme more by emphasizing the 'sacrifice' aspect (maybe run people over instead of trash cans, haha), but anyway critique over - great job!
Had high hopes for this game, as it won me over just with the title and description, however, it is indeed lacking polish. Collision issues, lack of animations and visual feedback disappointed me. And the difficulty curve is waaaay too high. No idea where a 'boss' was, due to no explanation of what one looked like(I assume I'd know it when I saw it though, so I can't knock you there.). But due to this, there was no quick, easy way to gain health back, and I always lost all my health quite rapidly, even on 'easy' difficulty.
All that said, the graphics and humor are nice. I really like the concept and would love to see a more polished version with a more gentle difficulty curve. :)
Very awesome, and well executed! One criticism: the iconography for the powerups (looking at turret, jumper, and block) could be better. Also maybe needs a tiny tutorial about how to apply said powerups - i f-ed up my first few trys. I see a lot of potential in this game for many interesting puzzles. Well done. :)
Well designed area with resources balanced/placed carefully, graphics and sound are lovely. Minion ai felt smooth and mostly bug-free. Wish there was more of an ending though.
Great level. Could make a great full game. Am I understanding the note on the itch page correctly that you will not continue work on this?
Thanks so much for the nice comments, guys :) I'm going to polish up this version and then keep working on it in the form of a "post-jam" version! Really had a lot of ideas I left on the table. :)
Nice concept! Would love to see specific info in the ui about what each particular unit does. Also, the ui graphics in general should be more visible. Kind of small and hard to read. Would like to see the gameplay put to a timer. And then give me different scenarios with different time restrictions and variable max debt and credit goals, etc.. Over all, fits the theme well, good job!
I applaud you for putting something out in only 7 hours, wish you had had more time to work on it! I will say that I wish less time was actually spent on the art (nice as it is) and more time trying to come up with a progression/mechanic that fits the theme better. You seem like a totally competent developer, so I hope you get more time in the next jam! :)
Interesting nugget of a game idea here. The controls are a bit convoluted and the gameplay area layout is wonky at best.Try to iterate on this and see if you can re-organize the play area and work on the enemy ai to make it a bit more dynamic and engaging. It got fairly monotonous after a few minutes of play, and I didn't even get to buy anything because it took that long to figure out how to pick up and throw the burgers. Keep at it!
Unfortunately, I was unable to speak to the majority of the NPC's in your game. :( Also, there is a lot of open space and NOT a lot of time to explore it :(
The game seemed to have a good artist and sound designer on it. It was hard for me to enjoy that stuff though as it seemed to lag in my browser. Not sure if that was just me. The audio came through very choppy, so I couldn't properly enjoy it! :o
The gameplay felt a tad generic action game-y and a bit uninspired. Would have liked to have seen the light used in a more unique way. I initially expected it to be a thing I moved around to illuminate areas and was disappointed to find this was not the case. The powerup icons did not match my expectations for what I was getting, specifically, with the double sword power-up. The icon should have been a light bream extending or something like that.
The character and enemy design was nice, though I agree with Adam that you should have focused on slightly less production quality and more on deeper gameplay. Something to look forward to for the next game jam!
Great job! I had some user experience issues though! It was a confusing interface, I seemed to have choices of where to go but then the choices actually didn't seem to matter all that much so long as I got the bolts. I was able to go offscreen and from there had a hard time getting back in visibility. Also being behind the table was hard to control as I could not see my character well. Some camera work would be nice. And an in-game explanation of what pressing the E key does. Overall very fun game though!
Cool game idea, wish it wasn't so buggy! I can't seem to get very far into it... I do hope you fix those! Specifically the guy running off screen for no reason, and I'd like to see visual feedback about whether I can place a building where my mouse cursor is! Good job, looking forward to seeing an update!
Nice, simple but effective competitive game. Docked points for lack of soundtrack. I could see a few more mechanics being added to create some serious depth and this could be very Videoball-like. Nice work!
You must include the whole folder, including UnityPlayer.dll! :o
Interesting story, good art and sound design, had a hard time understanding the various goals and systems though. The overall game design could use some more work IMHO. Overall, solid entry!
Hey there, webGL is the only option and even that doesn't seem to work!
Cool, got it, I'm on Windows. I'll give it a play in the AM tomorrow
Reasonably fun, good concept! There's a key problem I see though that could be fixed asap: 1) I think there should be a way to trade one kind of unit for the other. Being able to sell units for gold would make sense to me. Probably related, but the whole problem about not being able to do anything when out of imps and just waiting for my inevitable death wasn't fun. Hope that's helpful! Keep up the good work!
Sorry guys, but this just isn't there for me. Graphics were okay, but good graphics does not make a good game. The game play didn't even seem to work as intended, missing a major criteria check for level completion. If you keep working on it, let me know! Best of luck!
Nice concept! This could really be an awesome game. I think this demo shows what you can do with this idea, but is like the 3rd level or so in what would be the actual game, though. You could start the player in 1 lane and give them like a binary choice or shoot/shield and that introduces them to the mechanic in an more easily digestible way. Then move on to 2 lanes and introduce the movement thing. Sadly I didn't hear any music, would've been nice. Overall, great job! :)
@auburgo thanks for the feedback :) You're absolutely right, it is too hard for a single player.Unfortunately we ran out of time and just kind of released what we thought would be good for 2 players.
A new version is going to be uploaded soon with dynamic difficulty balancing and other stuff!
@aurel300 Thanks for the detailed feedback, its very helpful! What do you mean by this line though: "I much prefer when pixels actually line up and aren’t just used as vector art."?
BTW, your game was my favorite so far from this ldjam! I have literally no criticisms for it, I'm sorry! XD So addictive, pretty, and... excuse the pun... aurelly pleasing. :D
Cool game. Wish the programming stuff was a bit more in depth, and maybe taught the player a thing or 2 about programming. Nice art, GREAT music. Noticed a tad bit of glitchy slowdown though. Overall, great job!
Interesting little concept but not much of a game here. Kinda gets monotonous just running back and forth, doing the same thing over and over again. Good luck on the next one guys!
Hey folks, I don't really want ratings, as I started on the game during the jam but didn't have time to finish, so I don't think its fair to post a game I've been working more on post-jam? IDK. Happy to be corrected on that. But anyway, I am still working on the game though, and I will post a demo of it here at some point. I appreciate the interest @potkirland @manio @stenblood
@jk5000 Oh, I did not know that. In that case I will upload something soon. Thx for the tip
Very interesting concept! The physics and level design need a bit of work though. Very good start!
Fun little game! Would love to see faster sand fill and throwing the pots to make the gameplay feel a bit more hectic! Overall though, nice job! Very well polished!
Lovely little game, fun times. BOOOOOOOOM
A+ on music and graphics. Fun little game! I wonder how it can be expanded on...
@bogden you are CRACKED
