LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Colorful Memories by Ayxs 2020-10-06T11:16:21Z

This was a really touching experience! The way in which the world gradually fills with colour accompanies the story brilliantly, and I especially enjoyed the piano score. I would also be interested to hear how you achieved the looping visual effect, which worked nicely and gave the whole game a hazy sort of feel - very well done!

Colorful Memories by Ayxs 2020-10-06T11:52:26Z

Ahhh @bredera @Axys thank you so much, very much appreciate your explanation  I shall certainly download the source code and have a poke around!!

Me, Myselfs and I by davision 2020-10-06T11:01:50Z

Really not quite sure what I played, but I had a really fun time!! Very surreal, and that in itself is a very cool experience.

Looping Stuck by peeweek 2020-10-08T08:06:04Z

Really really enjoyed this, great job! Agree with everyone else that the lighting and visuals were top-notch - minimal but brilliantly executed. Literally the only thing I could think of was that the sink wasn't too obvious and took a moment to find, but that's really a small thing! Also gave me chills based on my own personal experience. Thank you as well for uploading the source code, I'm definitely going to have a poke around for some tips!

OH and last thing I loved that lighting effect on the mirror in the bathroom!!

End of the Skyline by ehgoodenough 2020-10-17T09:57:41Z

Really really impressed, the whole package is brilliant with fantastic artwork, interesting gameplay, and a hella catchy soundtrack  The character designs couldn't be clearer, in fact they're so well designed I could pretty much tell what each character's function was from the get-go! I would be very interested in following any further updates to this game - I can absolutely see this (or something similar) as a full-length title.

Looplex by aviv871 2020-10-16T10:25:07Z

Awesome puzzle game, enjoyed the sound FX directing you towards solutions, and the pixel art was great

A Certain Particle Chamber by Baturinsky 2020-10-29T21:48:53Z

Really cool, weirdly addicting I must admit!! I would love to see these sort of shapes as part of some kind of animation!

SPACELOOP by gwinnell 2020-10-16T10:40:57Z

Awesome shooter, and very impressive to be using your own game engine!! The transition between levels felt insanely cool - the sound, animation etc. really works well together at that point. Music/SFX were excellent and fitted right in with the visual style for me. As mentioned by others, I hugely appreciated the tutorial too - made it much easier to get into the swing of things!

Training Loop by DomNomNom 2020-10-08T08:14:42Z

Really unique game, probably the most unique I've played so far!! This definitely scratched an itch as there is something quite satisfying for me about tweaking variables and seeing outcomes like this. I must admit I was a little daunted by the second level, but I imagine to a more computer-science-minded individual this sort of thing would be more easily embraced

Light footsteps after the rain by Chocolat-Endive 2020-10-06T11:37:13Z

The combination of excellent photography and relaxed meandering synth soundtrack created a really wistful experience for me. Brilliant use of synthesised voices too, gives it a slightly eerie sort of vibe! In fact, now that I realise that the only 'real' (non-generated) part of the experience was the photography, that has really made me think. Kind of like an algo-ghost town or something?? Hmmmmmmmmmm...

Spirit Journey by theStoff 2020-10-16T10:33:49Z

Wonderful artwork, and the spirit realm on the whole reminded me of Hollow Knight, a game I very much enjoy! Excellent atmospheric music too! The statues of the player's past selves started to create quite a creepy atmosphere for me as they built up - perhaps not intended but an awesome element adding to the mood! :grinning:

Za Loopo! by NarRenArr 2020-10-17T09:31:56Z

Very surreal (as you might expect from a game about balloons kidnapping gay robots), but I found the whole thing enjoyable - very cute SFX and music too  My favourite part was the 'ZA LOOPO' after killing the boss, cracked me up

Journeys to the Spire by C0nt 2020-10-17T09:26:04Z

The central mechanic really struck me as a unique idea, and the tile-based gameplay made it feel a lot like a rogue-like to me, perhaps mixed with some of the early Civ games! I can certainly see the scope for expanding this idea, great work! :grinning: My only suggestion would be (as others have said) to include a tutorial level to explain gameplay to players in practice.

BULLET TIME by cakts 2020-10-08T07:56:51Z

Hey well done, the whole thing felt really cohesive and polished!! The most striking thing for me was how you've used lighting, both visually and as a game mechanic - the darkness surrounding the player made it difficult for me to navigate the level, but perhaps that's what you were going for! The only other thing is that I would have loved to hear the music develop a bit more during gameplay :grinning:

Ouroboros by JoeDev 2020-10-16T10:14:41Z

Amazing stuff, the visual style and animation reminded me a lot of Pandemonium (PS1 platformer from '96). It was quite tricky at first, but I got the hang of it after a few tries - very frantic and fun all in all!! Not sure if it was just me but there wasn't any audio, I would have loved to hear a retro/PS1-style soundtrack or something

Ouroboros by JoeDev 2020-10-16T10:20:23Z

Ah I'm a fool sorry, I had my audio switched off  Great 8-bit soundtrack and FX too!!

Overrun by GameDevMatt 2020-10-06T10:24:04Z

This was really fun! And got quite hard haha :) It was a bit disorienting at first but it grew on me very quickly and I was really enjoying the circular movement by the end.

Here's my score:

Overrun.png

The only thing I could think of was that I didn't realise you could move the mouse at first and just thought the view was misaligned!

A100P by ItsIsaac 2020-10-06T10:41:10Z

Some lovely visual moments, the camera angles were varied and the use of lighting really added to the whole experience! The character model is ace too, and indirectly controlling Stanley through the objects is an interesting mechanic! I must admit it took me a few tries to work out how to progress, but the overall mood you created was awesome.

Chronophobia by Valkija 2020-10-06T11:00:42Z

Really great atmosphere and excellent storytelling both through the environment and the notes and books scattered around the game. I think I nearly completed it but couldn't quite figure out what to do with the cup of purple stuff! Brilliant audio too, I wonder whether music could have added anything, but I'm not sure - it's creepy enough as it is :)

Void by Frozentape 2020-10-06T11:03:42Z

Thank you @bredera!! I will be sure to check out your game also :)

Void by Frozentape 2020-10-06T11:18:14Z

@chocolat-endive and @peeweek - thank you very much! I'll check out your games now :D

Void by Frozentape 2020-10-06T11:54:27Z

@domnomnom Thank you for your helpful comment!! I agree with each of your points, and I really appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback

Void by Frozentape 2020-10-06T21:23:40Z

Thank you all, really encouraging words  I'll admit I did the models myself and I am by no means an artist! Definitely a couple of lighting issues, well noticed! 2001: A Space Odyssey was absolutely an influence for us, as was Gravity: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1454468/ and Moon: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1182345/ two more excellent (but less classic) space films. I am very glad to hear that people enjoyed the shaders as well! I will make sure I play everyone's games tomorrow

Void by Frozentape 2020-10-08T07:43:17Z

@etrealjunior Thank you!! And absolutely, I will check it out now :D

Void by Frozentape 2020-10-16T10:03:47Z

Thank you everyone, so great to log back in and read your comments!! @jakob-reborn I agree, I'd absolutely be wanting to take the binaural stuff further in a later version, especially with the whispers (since they're so disturbing haha)! @lumue Also an excellent point regarding some synths - there's actually no real 'music' in it so far, and I think it would be a great shout adding some drones/deep tones to add to the atmosphere. Going to play some more games now so I shall do my best to play everyone's!!

Resurrection by etrealjunior 2020-10-08T07:47:24Z

Well done!! Great choice of music for a chilled mood, and nice high-contrast visuals! I wonder whether the responsiveness of the controls could have been a bit tighter, but other than that looks great

Donut Island by odedro987 2020-10-06T10:15:19Z

Tricky and fast paced but really fun! I enjoyed the bullet physics pushing the player around - pixel art is also excellent and the whole visual style feels great! I got around 700 points and survived for around 2 mins I think :D

Adam - Now in 3D by hjeldin 2020-10-08T08:24:27Z

I'm a big fan of space things in general, so I enjoyed this! I liked the lil' soliloquy at the beginning, and the time-rewinding parts were very cool! The music created a wonderful mood :)

Star-Dogged Moon by Ree Rolph 2020-10-06T11:48:26Z

Engaging writing, and a really spooky story - it's a winner for me :P Gave me Scottish highlands vibes in the best way. Great choice of music too!

Murder on the Horizon by Ayxs 2022-10-07T20:11:55Z

Nice one, really enjoyed playing  Loved the atmospheric visuals, and the idea that the murderer was cleaning up evidence as you walk around the area was a really nice touch and immediately gave the experience a sense of urgency. I felt like the murderer could have started cleaning up evidence a little later, but then I guess that would make fitting in with the theme a bit difficult. Great job

Police Mayhem by WFMG 2022-10-10T11:40:11Z

Nice, ngl I quite enjoy the way the car floats around haha :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: The lighting is also real nice, I bet with more time you could defintiely expand on it

Sushi Bushi by Frozentape 2022-10-07T19:58:39Z

Glad everyone is enjoying the game  @ayxs Thanks for the feedback  I agree that the *Sushi Bushi* attack doesn't have a clear purpose, and if I were to work more on the game I'd definitely try and find a way for it to benefit the player. The lose screen is indeed confusing, and I'll have to check the energy meter not changing as I hadn't noticed that!

Sushi Bushi by Frozentape 2022-10-10T11:30:59Z

Ah @100th-coin thank you so much for recording the video, this kind of feedback is so useful!! We had planned to have three different minigames which I agree would provide a lot more variety.

Thank you @gno-evenimente and @steinuil for playing

Sushi Bushi by Frozentape 2022-10-14T19:47:57Z

@adafheyesh Thank you for your detailed and insightful comments  I agree that the *Sushi Bushi* attack is pretty redundant, and that the mechanics in general are not particularly clear. If I were to work more on this game I would try and make balancing the weight and energy levels more interesting, and give the player a clear reason to move around - perhaps multiple conveyor belts or something? It kind of felt like we came up with a number of fun/interesting mechanics but in terms of making them work together as a cohesive experience it didn't quite work!

The sushi reaching the end should definitely be bringing the player closer to a lose state, but we didn't get round to adding that in, which is definitely confusing given the objective of the game.

I'm glad you enjoyed it overall though! We were especially proud of the art and sound, adds a lot to the silliness/hecticness I reckon

Sushi Bushi by Frozentape 2022-10-22T08:31:17Z

Thank you @projectaroid @eoshadows @mikouaji and @rewzu !!! I'm so glad you enjoyed playing

Another one bites the dust by AlexYam 2022-10-08T13:41:04Z

Nice game  Fits well with the theme and the combination of music and visuals creates an eerie atmosphere. Nice that you've included the sounds of the various weapons too - would have loved to hear more enemy and pickup sound effects but it is a jam after all

Wyrmweaver by animawish 2022-10-10T11:36:52Z

Love it! Excellent use of the theme and feels like there could be a lot of depth with the number of turrets and attacks etc. Would definitely need sound to make things more engaging, but I really enjoyed playing  Tricky as well but not too much, and I love how the difficulty scales with the addition of more spawners and different enemy types.

The Great Escape by amarokczukay 2022-10-07T20:25:27Z

Awesome  Excellent use of the theme, and an engaging puzzle! I felt it was a little difficult, but maybe that's just due to my slow reactions  I'd love to hear more audio in general as I think there are a lot of fun things you could do with it, though I really liked the mobile music.
