The Great Sinker by LordMiji 2021-04-26T04:35:23Z
I liked the main character art. The background submarine wall looks nice when standing still, but blurs a lot when moving.

Very impressed with what you've done with random content. I was invested in trying to unlock the mystery, and the content gets better as the game goes on. Excellent take on the theme, too.
I'm a sucker for upgrade games and this one mixes a few good mechanics together with some nice clear visuals. I like it!
This is some good stuff. The sound design was impressive! I love your interpretation of the theme and playing your game was funny and enjoyable.
My favourite interpretation of the theme for the jam. Very interesting idea and the art sets a certain mood.
Excellent blend of mechanics, art, and sound. This is my top pick for the Jam so far.
I had a lot of fun playing around with the ghost mechanic. I'm impressed with the polish on everything you've done, this is a cool idea and really well put together. Minor gripe is that the player seems to be able to take as long as they want to set up, maybe add a time limit?
One of the best I've played this jam!
Great atmosphere. The player holding the oxygen tank is a nice touch. I'd make the shark range a bit shorter though, I seemed to end up in a lot of damned if you do situations where they were camping oxygen tanks. The hands look creepy but the sharks quickly become the real scary thing.
I can't help but wonder what the person in the inner tube is thinking! "Where'd he go?!"
I don't generally enjoy "non-games," but the music and visuals were so good that it made me play until the end. You nailed the mood, this game definitely relaxes you. I really enjoyed it.
Excellent use of pixel art! I also loved the wolf howl. Nice, tight throwing mechanics too. Great job!
Wonderful art. I thought steering the boat would be more difficult, but the controls are good.
The sound design lends to the claustrophobic feel.
Great atmosphere, intense game!
I liked the controls, the character seemed to move at a good pace and the lighting mechanics were pretty good.
One of the best I've played yet for sure. This game has a ton of charm and a really innovative 2nd player mechanic. Excellent work!
Me too! I'd like to have been able to export to HTML5, but I purchased the license to export to Windows. Maybe if I participate in the next Jam I can justify the cost of the license. Thanks for taking a look!
Thank you everyone. In addition to the fixes/changes I already had in mind, I'll try to implement your suggestions.
@gilborn, @yorsh: I'm thinking to either make the sword more accessible, or improve how the dagger feels/its range.
@ariorick I've heard of Godot, maybe I'll check it out. but I started with Gamemaker and enjoy it.
@cubex There's a short period where if you're struck by an enemy that specific enemy can't hit you again, but I probably should make the player completely invincible to all enemies when struck.
@pincushion I'll have to look into respawn points. As is, nothing can respawn/reset and it's basically a one-shot deal. It could be something simple, but I was literally implementing the boss mechanics in the final hour of the comp. In hindsight, I should have went for more polished mechanics and fewer stages.
I'll extend/replace the background music so it's not so repetitive. This was my first time making music, and the other songs I made sounded a bit jarring so they didn't make it in.
Thanks again to everyone who played so far and left feedback! I really appreciate it.
@nocymer yeah, I only thought to put in an explanation of the controls when I was submitting, so I had to add them in the description as an afterthought. Sorry!
@2bitcrook thanks for the kind words! I've toyed with different placements for the dagger and I think I'll keep it where it is now. I run the risk of alienating players but I think it's worth it if they push on a bit.
If anyone hasn't checked out 2bitcrook's submission, Frog, it's worth firing up the NES emulator for! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/48/frog
@ambear I'm really glad you enjoyed it! Thanks so much for playing.
