Nice concept. I like the mechanic.
Was sad to see it was so short! I loved the idea, and it was well executed. I did find that I wasn't throwing the lantern around to check my surroundings because losing it to a pit was worse than me falling in said pit because death took longer to claim me. Audio would sometimes break on restart, but other than that I had a lot of fun playing this!
Really moody presentation. I'd recommend editing the theme on the itch.io page so the background color isn't so bright relative to the game.
The game is fun ride. But a short one :/ If you ever decide to add more depth to it, by adding more level, be free to send me a message, I would gladly play it again. And as @pixelhurricane said, unfortunately, Audio would sometimes break, and that's a shame, considering how good it is
Thanks guys, got a bit carried away with mechanics and lighting and barely had time to finish a single game loop! I'll hopefully put up a bug fix later today.
@pixelhurricane great feedback on the timing thing, thanks
Thanks for that @piratehearts, I didn't see the options for colour as I was just in the initial game released page... Looks a lot better now
The sounds in the dark genuinely scared me, well done!
Amazing Idea, that you have to throw the only light source. Whenever I ended up throwing my lamp into the abyss and was standing in the dark - I had the same feeling as if I played Don't Starve and the Camp Fire runs out of light. You did a great job with the mood :ghost:
The game idea was really cool!! It was really interesting and had me playing until the end (which is actually not very difficult given it's length). At some point the ingame sounds glitched out and never came back and there seems to be some problems with going back and dying once you have hit a checkpoint.
nice entry. though there are levels where I just randomly jumped to complete it
I like mechanics like this, where you have a helpful item that you also have to be sure to take care of/stick around for some reason. The lamp was a great idea!
Great idea, I was left wanting more! Felt satisfying to get it.
I like the core concept, having to throw the light instead of carrying it, it makes it so you have to plan your jumps and try and remember the level. One criticism I have is that it's possible to lose the lantern in a pit, and since there is no way of getting it back you have to jump randomly to either die or get to the next section.
Apart from that, the game looks nice and I really enjoyed the calm music, so kudos to you!
@Nazorus I would leave it a few more seconds after losing your light before you jump in the pit after it
@stuartc Guess I was too impatient  good to know the mechanic is here!
Really neat idea, had fun playing!
nice concept! the light and jump stick togegher so much
What a charming game. Really enjoyed the concept and would totally buy a fleshed out larger version.
I had a little bug at the end where my guy wouldn't do his jumping animation on reaching the final cave of crystals. Had to return to the previous room and re-enter.
Really nice idea! Would love to play a more polished version. The music is also really great. It gives off a very desolate atmosphere. The platforming is fun and occasionally infuriating (in a good way)! A pleasure to play. Also the sound effect when you lose your lantern completely caught me off guard the first time lol.
Interesting and well-developed concept. It has a great potential. Astonishing.
@negabyte don't worry, theres a version in the works! I've got so many ideas for it.
That doesnt surprise me, that ending was put in very last minute  if you werent holding your light it doesnt let you end, because if not you die before you finish jumping
I really enjoy playing interesting ideas like these executed well. I think I wrong-warped past some sections on my playthrough, but either way, really cool game mechanics!
@stuartc Glad to hear it man! If you need a playtester, feel free to hit me up
I really loved the look of this game, was really nicely done!
Loved the mood! Would like to see some smoother scene-transitions that doesn't interrupt the music when you die. Nice work!
@generalsturgeon thanks for the feedback, I tried to find the sweet spot between the music fading out and the creating noises fading in but didn't quite have time to perfect it!
Cool graphics. Good music. Very atmospheric in both visual style and audio. Interesting gameplay mechanics, having to juggle the lamp to move around creates some nice tension. Sometimes it was a bit hard to see where there are screen transitions.
Very well done! The game is extremely atmospheric, which I really loved. The one thing that bothered me to no end is that the music abruptly stopped whenever you died. If the music just continued playing I think this game would have a perfect mysterieous, calm yet eery atmosphere. The mechanics also played really well into this theme, because you never really know where you can jump unless you throw your light. Throwing your light feels scary, because you cannot see anything at all without it. Very interesting and very well executed!
Besides the music stopping, another point of feedback was that I sometimes did not know where I should go next. The exit of a level was difficult to see for me, especially in one level where you had to jump off screen. Maybe it would have been cool if there was a bit of light trickling from the exit? Another thing is that at first it was not very clear what buttons I should use. I tried pressing all the buttons on the keyboard, and for a second I though the game was bugged and I could not jump. Then I tried the mouse and everything made sense.
Anyway, thanks a lot for this! Playing this was a pleasant surpirse, even if it was a bit short.
Edit: I just read in an earlier comment that you are making another version. If you finish it let me know! I would love to play it ^_^
@Wuppos thanks for the feedback  the music wasn't meant to cut so abruptly but as with most things I ran out of time... I had a 10 mixer setup with lots of effect to set the atmosphere but that didn't quite pan out  controls-wise, I did make some graphics for the main menu but I agree that this wasn't obvious enough and would've liked some mini tutorial graphics within the first level as well. Same with the level design, I didn't want to light up the exit as I felt that took away from the total darkness but I do have some ideas to remedy this.
Thanks a lot for playing and giving feedback
So I died a lot, it would have been nice to know how I died in each instance. In case, throwing the light around was a really cool mechanic.
Nice mechanics! The idea of not being able to jump while holding the lamp is awesome! And the music adds a lot to the whole mix! I would keep the music playing when you rather than restarting it whenever you die, at least in my case it was a lot!
Very nice combination of gameplay mechanics (having to move the lamp around to light the darkness, and not being able to jump while holding the lamp).
The music was very fitting and set the mood, adding to the spooky feel of being lost and alone in the dark, and not knowing what to expect.
Considering how sudden the deaths can be, it could be nice to restart a little quicker after dying.
Nice entry, well done!
