It's confusing, some instructions would be great. Also, transitions are really slow. The art is nice!
hmm i'm not sure what to put in the instructions.
Music is pretty cool, but I echo the comments above (no idea what I'm doing - it seems to work though - up until the third level!)
instructions added based on playtester feedback!
Thanks for making a rhythm game ! I got to the 4th enemy but I took dynamite each time haha :bomb:
there is a way to beat the 4th enemy without damage, though the solution is a bit unintuitive.. so i've added a hint in the instructions
Well I'll be honest on my feedback, I got completely lost so I quit :/ I expected a rythm game to have cool music, and then you press some keys at the same times of the snares, kicks, hats, etc, but here the background music is only made of drums so it's really really hard to get the rythm right. I'm not the best at music, but I honestly found it too hard, and when I got the first level right, I did not know how I did and I immediatly died on the second.
Also, had it has been said, I just didn't know what was happening, I was just pressing Z, not understanding why there was hourglasses, a circle, etc. Might require some more explanations and balance in my opinion, and it could be a funny game!
I came here because you posted to the IRC channel, but then vanished before anyone responded to you  So... yes, I agree with you, the interface and design language are pretty clear. However, that doesn't mean @saering is necessarily wrong. This game is extremely unforgiving and it's not always clear what you're supposed to be doing or how you're doing. I would describe the experience like this: it's like you're suddenly in an advanced level of a game where you really wish you'd have gone through the tutorial levels first. For example, it's not clear to me - even after going through several attempts - whether I was actually making decisions about the state of the game board, I was too busy trying to hit Z on the beat.
I do think this game does have a lot of potential, the problem is just that it has no (perceived) difficulty curve
ohh okay, thanks for your feedback. keep it coming and i can make a post-jam deluxe build to address these issues
First off, thanks for proving once and for all the lag on my bluetooth headphones lol. Had to break out my DAC for that ππ ππΎππΆπ ππΆππππΈπ
This one's been on my backlog for a while now, glad I finally got to it. Loooooove rhythm games, and I think the battle mechanic here is pretty cool. I can agree it's kind of confusing at first especially since there's no in-game tutorial, but once I got it it was pretty fun! I made it all the way to the red mage (5th level)--nothing actually spawned in that level for me so I don't know if it was a bug, or if I got to the end.
Other minor feedback includes
- Love the monster designs, they are very cute and it's the Clefairy-ish monster that got me to click on this game in the first place - Pretty happy with the jungle beat, goes well with the battle. Did you compose it? - Maybe it's just my setup but I got some crackles every once and a while in the soundtrack - One thing I'd *really* love is if the music were continuous between rounds. It definitely threw off my internal rhythm to hear it suddenly start up again.
Overall as a person who loves rhythm games, this is a pretty cool showing, great work!
Edit: Got to the red mage again and this time was able to get stuff by happening by hitting it off beat? Kind of an interesting mechanic, I like how you managed to have different boss mechanics in a rhythm game. Very shortly died to unicorn though lol.
> Kind of an interesting mechanic, I like how you managed to have different boss mechanics in a rhythm game.
thank you, i feel like that's where i really succeeded.
Got to the green slime thing before losing life, mostly due to misses while trying to juggle all the different obstacles in my brain.
Would love more feedback on the timing window, as right now there is no way of telling whether you were actually early vs late. I also found the delay effect on the drum loop pretty distracting. I had no trouble finding the beat but would not be surprised if others did!
I liked the different mechanics, but would have enjoyed it a lot more if I didn't have to restart the entire game from the beginning every time! Would love to just have a level select, if only for the purposes of jam rating.
Keep at it, you've got an interesting idea for sure!
This was a pretty cool game! I was thinking that perhaps there could've been multiple songs, slightly slower ones first so it's a bit easier to get used to it.
