A fun little game with a good core gameplay loop. With more polish this would be something really good. My only possible change would be to sync the enemy movement and actions, with your gun firing. Which will add a bit more rhythm to the gameplay. Also, my best score was a whole 340.

what a wonderful game! I love the mix of self-shot with base defense and a bit of plants vs. zombies. The graphics and effects are amazing, and the music. Great entry.

Cool concept! The gameplay is unique and the leaderboard is a nice feature; although, unfortunately I think it caused my game to freeze a couple times. The tutorial was really helpful. I ran into a bug occasionally where the bullets would just pass through the enemies but it didn't detract from the game. Overall the game felt like a well rounded experience, nice work!

The art style, soundtrack and gameplay all complement each other to create a very compelling experience. At first, the game seemed a bit flat, considering the player's supposedly only decision is to move around the field. However, once I discovered what each enemy type and power-up did, things got a lot more interesting. I stopped seeing the player's healthbar as a failure meter and more as a resource, or a tool. Exploding enemies right before they get to the last tile became a viable option, especially with plentiful shield and health drops.

Overall, I really enjoyed this game. It's a solid entry with no apparent flaws and a very strong design.

@matt-fabius thanks! Valuable feedback! I'm glad you liked the game. The leaderboard only updates when the scorescreen is opened, and is async, so i doubt thats causing freezes. Did you play in browser? Sometimes godot games run poorly on some browsers. I believe the bug that caused the bullets to pass through is also related to the framerate. The bullets should be slow enough to avoid tunneling, but a freeze or fps drop could cause it.

Brilliant game! I loved the mix between turn-based and real time, it was fun considering when to move and which rows to move to, since there was enough time to think but not too much to feel slow. The powerups were awesome as well, they added so much variety to gameplay - I'm not sure if the shield was supposed to be used offensively, but it was definitely fun to do so! The enemies worked well as well, and I particularly liked the one that could destroy other enemies around it, I loved seeing it do that every time. The artwork was also brilliant, I loved the enemies' consistent colour scheme and general mechanic look, and the lighting on those bullets was a nice touch too. I also thought the sound was great, with all the explosions and that fast-paced music, it was very satisfying. Overall a really fun game that kept me playing for 19 waves and 2070 score - wonder how long I'll stay on the leaderboard? Well done for this game!

The game is just great. The gameplay is fun and the graphics are very nice! Not a great variety of rvags, but still generates tactics. It would be better if bonuses worked longer

Yup. This is it. This is my personal favorite game of LD49. I'm a bit biased in my love for Battle Network, but every bit of this game oozes style and flair.

Awesome work on this. The mechanics in play are tight and the gameplay as a whole is damn fun. Having to strategise on the fly due to the various enemy types and due to their positions makes things damn tense and exciting. And of course the use of powerups and needing to move towards them as well. Everything from a mechanics perspective is cool from the shooting to using those powerups in different ways.

My only complaint though is that the movement speed seems a little too slow for the type of pace that the game wants to set for itself. Other than that though, cool and fun arcade game. My highest so far is roughly 600 and I'll definitely try for more

Wow, obviously there are some rough edges like movement feels a bit unresponsive. But as a whole this is so cool, variety of enemies, nice turn based combat and what feels like deep gameplay with meaningful choices. Good job!

@professir Thanks! Thats was the idea when we designed it, we wanted a Megaman Battle Network with Plants vs Zombies feeling. The overwhelming feeleing when a lot of zombies approach your house is great! We tried to replicate that feeling.

Nice game! I got 550! I found it kind of annoying that you could get in situations where it (at least seemed) impossible to beat everything. It just felt like the randomness kinda got you sometimes. All of the enemy types felt nice though! Overall well done!

@nardandas hi! thanks for playing! I'm sorry you found that annoying, but i dont think you should have encountered that problem so soon. If you pick the powerups strategically, and stock life and use it to defend the base, you can easily pass that score. But even though, as we want this to be a game of "last all you can", in a given time the game must become impossible. If not, the game could be endless and we don't want that for a jam game.

Some hints:

1- When picking a shield, use it to kill enemies by walking into them.

2- Dont pick any powerups right away, wait until many enemies are there. Specially the double shoot, is very useful against tanks, and it worth nothing for common enemies.

3- Stock life. Life can be used as a weapon as enemies explode when you touch them. That way you can "trade" base life with your own life.

4- Double shoot, if you move in the right moment, can be used to kill two enemies in adjacent rows.

5- Power Up synergy is the key. Is better to wait until many powerups are in the level before picking them.

Simple but original concept.

I did not want to look at the tutorial at first, and did not realize you could look back whith the "space" key. It may be a good idea to tell this action in your game description.

I like the fact that robots destroy bonuses when they walk on it, it adds some strategy, with choices like : "I should keep this bonus on the ground for later, but I take the risk to have it eaten by a robot".

IMO, the hero is a little too slow to move from one tile to another, and the bonus lasts a little too short. It generates a little frustration because a big part of the bonus advantages are lost, as you fire in the void while moving in front of your next target.

Really great graphisms and music. The best I have seen for this Ludum Dare, so far.

But the duration of the buffs, we tried longer and the game become too easy, and as a result, too long. We wanted each try to last arround 10mins. We should try to better balance the movment and the duration, perhaps fixing the movement is enough. Im glad you like it! thanks!

Wow, super polished! Looks and sounds great and is fun to play too. New stuff cropping up every time I thought it was getting a bit too easy, or too hard, with the powerups and increasing number of enemies. Only wish I could hold a key down to move around instead of pressing it multiple times. Really well done!

i think this game is excellent! reminds me of crypt of the necrodancer. i love the blend of rhythm game, tactics, and combat.

i made it to round 6. those walkers that explode everything around them are so tanky!

one feedback is it felt a bit confusing when everyone is two grid tiles tall, i felt like i should be able to shoot the enemies feet. maybe making them 1.5 tiles tall or so would help the visuals line up with the grid better.

Very cool game! Graphics are pretty good, and I especially liked the enemy variety and their design. Music and audio design is also quite good. But I think with this setup we are a bit too much at the mercy of the RNG to get us good items and get us on the proper timing, no?

By the way, the game crashed WebGL a couple of times for me (Firefox), which is odd, but ti hasn't happened with any other game.

@lucasvb hi! thanks for playing! Im glad you liked art and music. About the setup, as far as we tested you can get really far by just improving your skills. Timing on items is not much impact if you don't pick right away, the idea is to leave them on the level waiting for other items that have synergy and pick them altogether. Or for example, if you have a double shoot item in the level, wait to pick it whene there is a tank. Also, when you have low enemy count, you may want to wait until it advances a bit to kill it, so pickups are dropped in a safer place. This are strategies that can make you reach better socres in the game, regardless of luck or randomness. After some point, the game must become unbeatable, so there is where luck starts to play a more important role. We didnt want this to be an endless game.

About webgl crashing, thanks for telling us, im not being able to reproduce any crash, but we will see if we can get other people to crash it.

Awesome game! Enjoyed playing it quite a lot! The grid based movement with attack timing slightly reminds me of Crypt of the Necrodancer which is a big plus to me. Cool graphics accompanied with nice music and gameplay :)
